This is a really beautiful hotel, inside and out. We went in for a quick drink and reprieve, and it just feels amazing inside there. They were prepping the foundation for the gingerbread house so I'll definitely be back for that. The waiter and waitresses are all amazing. Haven't stayed in a room yet here but I'm sure they will be just lovely.

Opulent, ornate, classic, definitely. Practical? Compared to modern hotels, no. If you like the old style, marble look & a back in time feel when life was simpler as some people say, then this is for you. If you want modern 5*, then probably not. The exotic Caribbean bar with a lake & live music is somewhat out of place. Location on Nob Hill is spot on, & it s easy to get an Uber if you want to avoid the hills. Or walk if you want to see more of SF. Staff efficient & polite but never felt a 5* service. As the HVAC is probably very difficult to upgrade, the fan in the bathroom was loud & permanently on. Walls in bedroom quite thin, we could here everything the American bloke in the next room was saying at 1am. It wasn t that interesting. When I return to SF, I ll try somewhere else.

This hotel is stunning. I've only been in the lobby area and to some of the meeting / event rooms. They are flawless and breathtaking. If you're in the area, drop by for a quick peek. If you like grand rooms with a historical feel you will not be disappointed.

Awesome, historic looking and feeling location. The staff was helpful and really made us feel like we were at an upscale location. The Tonga room was so cool, just wish it was a little less crowded.

Wonderful brunch! Beautiful setting, no wait, and food was super tasty. The man at the omlette station customized my waffle too. The crab omelette was stuffed & the coffee was perfection. Kudos to the great staff.

I visited the Fairmont to have drinks at the Tonga Room. The bar is a fully decked out tiki space with thatched huts, periodic rain from the ceiling into the pool, and live music. The drinks were great and the atmosphere is spot on- delightfully tacky as tiki bars ought to be.

Great classic San Francisco hotel at the top of Mason Street in Nob Hill. On a recent 3-day trip, we found Uber a convenient way to get around when pressed for time. But nothing beats taking an iconic cable car ride while in San Francisco. My room on the 6th floor was very comfortable and had a nice City view. Although I generally prefer a higher floor, I was able to get a great sunrise photo from my room. Be sure to get up early at least one morning to catch the sunrise.

We were offered a free upgrade to make up for an earlier matter. When we wanted to use it, they said it's subject to availability. So we tried to check with them couple hours before checkin time & before paying the non-refundable charge online...they told us they could only tell us if there is availability once we book & at the time of checkin. They were not even willing to bother & find out how many rooms were available for upgrade, so we'd at least know our chances for upgrade in the next 2hrs!
The problem was the people on the phone were so unwilling to help us in the minimum way possible, and the alternative without upgrade at Fairmont are tiny Queen rooms that haven't been renovated for last 50 years almost

Great location and beautiful building. Rooms may have been updated or the tower us just newer than the main building. Rooms are a good size too. If walking, just know it is on top of a steep hill.

We are in a second floor inward facing room. The "view" is terrible but the room itself is very nice. The walls are paper thin so we can hear everything in the hallway and what the neighbors are saying. Earplugs would be appreciated.

The reason for visiting the Fairmont in San Francisco was the Christmas decorations. The hotel lobby was full of people enjoying the sounds and sights put on display at this establishment. It was a warm atmosphere with children and adults enjoying the most wonderful time of the year.

Absolutely wonderful hotel. I checked in flawlessly, my room was ready at 10am. The Reception staff are top notch! I wanted to check out on the same day, but a guy on the front desk was extremely wonderful. He wanted to know if l was unhappy with my room. I am local and only wanted to stay there for the day. He upgraded me to a better room on the tower. Glad I chose the Fairmont!

It's a nice hotel. Located on a very high hill. It's not far from a lot of tourist places and going to those places it's easy (because it's downhill) returning is a challenge for the less fit (like me).

They have a lot of places for special events, catering and facilities are great. Hotel restaurant is really nice and they have great food.

At the very bottom they have a really nice restaurant with a boat where musicians play while you enjoy dinner.

Great place !!!

We had family brunch. We called days in advance and were told they weren't taking reservations, but we're welcome to walk in the day of, so we did. When we arrived (from the East Bay), we were told the kitchen was booked and was only seating hotel guests. The host was very understanding and incredible helpful, and thankfully she took pity on us and sat us at a table so we could eat. We ordered a variety of menu items, mostly successfully. The burger was great, as was the French onion soup. Don't skip the popovers... Yum. The tuna tartar was inedible - it was drenched in balsamic and the taro chips we're burnt. But the cocktails we're fantastic. Obviously, the SF Fairmont is a holiday staple. Maybe stick to brunch outside of the holidays unless you're a hotel guest.

This is a favorite stay of my family when visiting SF. The room is impeccably decorated, service is as advertised, warm welcoming and accomodating. My son is enthralled with the atmosphere of the lobby and lobby dinning area especially when the crowds die down in the evenings. I just love the smiles the Fairmont and staff puts on thier face. See you on our next visit.

I didn't stay at this historic hotel overnight but I was here all day for a conference. I was able to see almost every room in the hotel, besides each individual hotel room. I LOVE the outdoor garden they have here with a local beehive! Also, if you're lucky enough to be able to get special access from someone in security to get up to the top levels, the views are unbelievable. The bridge looks like it's within arm's reach. What a beautiful hotel

The building itself is very beautiful. Great for weddings. Especially during Christmas, children and families can go and enjoy a free visit the annual Gingerbread house and then take pictures of the gogeous Christmas Tree.

Very moderate for a five star hotel. The building is beautiful (although it does have American dimensions), the staff are friendly, but that's it. A bed that is too short, a shower that barely fits you under, hardly any water pressure, etc. Enjoyment is not an option. Also the location, on top of the hill seen from the center, is not really favorable. Once but never again, San Francisco has much better to offer.
