Famous hotel, all very respectable ... rooms are spacious. Our room was on a high floor overlooking Alcatraz. The views are awesome. From such hotels you get a lot of pleasure. All at the highest level!...

Top notch grand old hotel. Lovely guest rooms, beautiful common areas, accommodating staff. Suggest to book the rooms with the city view. The hotel is atop Nob Hill so there are some great views

Besides being an SF institution, its actually a pretty nice hotel too. It hasn't been needlessly modernized in decor and retains its original charm. The service is top notch and I would recommend upgrading. to a high floor. The Top of the Mark is the top floor bar and is worth visiting.

I went to the Tonga Room. The drinks were great, the food was all right, and the service was passable. Watch out for the "Cover Charge", though. No one in my party was told there was going to be a $15/head charge for being in the room while the band was playing, and when our bill came out it was $120 more than we expected. The management eventually did refund this after we negotiated with them to remove the charge, but honestly, $15/person for the privilege of listening to a band playing cover songs is egregious.

Used to very beautiful hotels around the world (Shanghai, Athens, Marrakech, Dubai, Porto, ...), this hotel does not at all live up to a 4 star rating:
- more than half of the staff do not think of greeting you as you pass,
- Upon check-in, the receptionist was just friendly and courteous. But quite able to sell you additional services ...
- No proposal for a city map, advice, ...
- It is impossible to have a coffee served in the magnificent lobby without looking for it and carrying it yourself! You are invited to consume it in the restaurant room where the sound of the piano is much too loud (for my taste)
- The room is very beautiful, but this is also the detail that counts in a hotel of this size (painting the door hinges ...)

Too bad for a place steeped in history, splendid in its decoration, ideally located ... But at this price, we expect more than a room ...

Such an iconic venue for a wedding. I was lucky to be in my friend's wedding party with the reception held in the crown room. I must say it's a great feeling looking down on the hustle and bustle of San Francisco from such a great vantage point. The hotel is very well maintained with friendly and attentive staff.

Property was very high end but it didn't outweigh the terrible service. Arrived an my room still had birthday balloons tied to the bed and wasn't clean. We requested a new room and ended up with a smaller room with broken phone (repair guy came later in the afternoon and did help fix it). Overheard someone else in the lobby with a similar situation. Tonga lounge was rented out so we couldn't go all weekend... decided to go to the intersect lounge publicized on the website but our key wouldn't work, after having one front desk employee recommended to make us new keys, still didn't work, 2nd front desk employee told us its only for chartered events and wasn't open. Internet and gym costs money unless you jump through a bunch of hoops to join the president club, triple check they attach the new account to the room because they still tried to charge me extra for internet (which is wayyyy slow). gym employee didn't mention that prez club members get in for free and still asked for $15... overall, I think I get more included with a room at a motel 6... For a $500 room, I expected to at least have the basics

The room had everything I could ever need or want as a guest. The room was sooo clean and beautiful. The room looked like something out of a movie and we didn't even have the biggest and the best there! The room came with both wired and wireless internet, big tv, mini fridge, snacks, closet, etc. The only thing I would say to improve, is to not make it sooo expensive for the littlest things, such as parking, internet access, etc. Overall, one of the best hotels I have ever been to.

I went here to visit the world famous Tonga room, but it was closed. Who would have figured a bar would be closed at 2pm, what kind of Animals are running the place?! I then had to settle for using the world famous Tonga bathroom instead. It was awesome because it was clean.

Nice hotel. Unfortunately there was a fire alarm when we were there last year at about midnight. I think someone had too many in the Tonga lounge and pulled the alarm.... Apart from that it was a pleasant stay.
