For food and service this place gets 6 stars. My husband and I both ordered the tasting menu and every course was better than the last. The service was excellent and attentive, at the same time putting us at ease. We're from the NYC area and regularly dine at top restaurants and we were impressed by Commander's Palace.

Why the 4 stars? Despite my husband wearing a jacket and bow tie and me in a designer cocktail dress, we were sat in an odd upstairs room at the top of the stairs and the entrance to the bathrooms. On top of that, it also had an open service station that meant all the food came through here and the wait staff stood there joking and yelling about who needed help. In addition, the gentleman at the table next to us had jeans and a short sleeve shirt on. Why have a dress code if you're not going to enforce it? Lastly, when I went to the restroom, there was no toilet paper in the stall, nothing to dry my hands on after washing, and badly in need of a clean up.

3 hours of wonderful indulgence. They served 800 people for Sunday brunch when we were there and it everything was spot on. I ve worked fine dining and they have it down. Super friendly and welcoming staff, great cocktails, an 80 page wine list (give or take ;), the food was excellent and the desserts were beyond! Also had a jazz trio play our requested song (What a Wonderful World, a family fave). Definitely a special occasion place for us. Worth the trip on the trolly. We re not local but we ll have to make it a priority when we come back. Note: Make a reservation!!!

Went here on a Monday with a group of about 10 (most of us black). Instead of telling us there was a dress code, they told us they had a couple of big parties coming.

Another member of our group (a white man) goes and asks them separately for a table. They tell him there's a dress code.

Service is over the top. Best gumbo I've ever had. I ordered a veal dish that seemed to have no veal, or so little I couldn't tell it was there. Breading pudding souffle was mostly air.

Expensive, but amazing for the price. A dinner prefix three course was about 40 when I went, and it was AMAZING! Service is good, and the soups are the best. Turtle soup is what they claim they are famous for, but I liked their other soup and gumbo better

Exquisite food and impeccable service make for an extraordinary dining experience. Just make sure to get reservations about two months out if a premium dining time is sought on the weekend.

This place had been recommended to me by a fellow chef & friend. My partner and I made a reservation but nearly cancelled because we were worried we would stick-out after reading the dress code/expectations. Our house had recently burned down and we were short on nice clothes; just visiting NoLa to decompress. To our relief, we were well-received at this upscale establishment in spite of our modest attire. We were treated courteously and didn't feel judged by our attentive waitstaff after being seated. (However, it was not lost on me that we were seated in the "back room", among others of similar dress and away from fancier patrons on the courtyard). My takeaway was that the Palace's philosophy wasn't so much rooted in pretense as it was old-fashioned Southern hospitality.

This restaurant is an accessible venue for anyone looking for the "experience" of fine dining. Food was excellent and portions were generous for most courses. They split a salad without our requesting at no cost. There was good bread available for the table--not that we needed it! Service was over the top and dinner came at a leisurely pace (relax and enjoy it!). We didn't get alcohol but ate generously and left with a bill of $110.

My only suggestion would be that someone escorts guests back through the kitchen (you have to traverse it to enter and exit). My girlfriend got flustered and almost used the wrong door and received a curt reprimand from a hostess.

The most incredible dining experience of my life! Greeted by the wait staff, walked thru the kitchen, sat at a table with a gorgeous view, and waited on like royalty! As if that weren't enough, the food was out of this world. We opted for the 3 course dinner which included soup/salad, main dish & dessert. Each course was over the top wonderful. We celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary and I couldn't have chosen a more special dinner! Worth every penny. (and I'm a cheapskate :))

Commander's Palace is the New Orleans staple for celebratory occasions and tourist visits. The service and serving sizes (yes, even for the tasting menu) hands down exceeded expectations. Unfortunately, as much as I kept hoping that the issues I encountered with the meals would improve with the next item, it did not. Mostly overcooked, dry, cold, or overly rich items. I can't say I will be writing home about the meal here, definitely underwhelming on the palate.

Would recommend doing the a la carte menu albeit the tasting menu (though mediocre) provides decent value.

We have eaten here regularly over the course of our lives with family and friends. It is a little bit of a tradition. We enjoy the atmosphere and the live music at brunch. The food has been quite consistent in superb quality over the years. It changes little but that is one of the things I love the most about my experiences here. We have done the chef's table several times. The wine selection is great. The martinis are perfect. We have sat outdoors and indoors, both are beautiful views. We also enjoy going for a little walk in the neighborhood after dessert and coffee.

Wow... Part of a larger group so we had a static menu that was fantastic... The steak, especially, was cooked to perfection... The service was friendly, knowledgeable and extremely attentive!

Delicious food and fine dining. Impeccable service. My husband and I did the tasting menu and they were very accommodating with his shellfish allergy. Have gone multiple times and have flown to come here. Especially if you are a visiting from a high cost of living area: fine dining at a great price.

Came here with my sister and a big group of friends for 25-cent martinis and fancy lunch during Jazz Fest. WOW! There is a reason everyone raves about Commander's Palace, it is Southern hospitality at its finest, and very deserving of all of the James Beard awards!

OMG! The staff was AMAZING from our greeting at the door to the waiters to the food! This place is very nice a little high end but it was definitely worth it. I would say if you visit the area you HAVE to try this place. Make reservations early

decor not bad. wife's soupx 3 good. my foie 3 ways ok. bread/butter amazing. our pecan crusted drum awesome! bread pudding souffles good. waitress impatient, but service of each course beautifully choreographed. for each course waiters team up and serve each person together w females slightly ahead. dining room manager came and spoke to us by name to see if everything was going well, later gave us a tour.. little touches go a long way with us.

Wow!!! We enjoyed an amazing 4 course meal and were blown away.
We started off with two different types of shrimp for appetizers and they both were phenomenal. We were all trying to stop ourselves from licking our fingers!
The chef brought out complimentary meat balls after that and 9/10 of our guests said it was the best they ever had (not quite sure what was wrong with the last guest we had...)
When the steaks came out, the plates were HOT! Do NOT touch them because they come STRAIGHT out of the kitchen.
Our amazing and loud table stopped talking for 20 minutes straight while we enjoyed our steaks!!! This time, 10/10 said it was the best steak we ever had! My gosh!
We finished by ordering one of EVERY dessert and sharing them all. The one with an Oreo/chocolate crust was my personal favorite, but there literally wasn t a bad one!
We left thrilled, full and content. So much so, none of us were interested in going out after and were content with the experience we just had.
It. Was. Perfect.

Incredibly inferior gumbo it was not tasty and had absolutely not one piece of seafood in it it was sent back and a tiny bowl with some overdone fish came back to me with the statement that the chef is sorry that there was not enough Seafood in the gumbo.

The seafood risotto had a nice flavor but was not extraordinary and a few of the shrimp were raw and under done which was disgusting there are a hundred better places to eat in New Orleans... go there instead..

Noise level in the Garden Room was way too loud just from normal conversation! Would be nice if they found a way to muffle it.

A little over-hyped. Beautiful interior, insanely attentive wait-staff, but for the prices I expected to be wowed by the food and it was ok. Gumbo didn't have much substance, turtle soup tasted sour, shrimp curry had ZERO curry flavor and like 5 pieces of shrimp. Quail was good. We both did a 3-course meal which includes soup, entree, and dessert. Waiter suggested a dessert that wasn't on the menu, bananas fosters, but should have mentioned that it was a $20 upcharge. It was a fun thing to watch him make and was delicious, definitely worth the upcharge - that just should have been communicated.
For $134 for dinner for 2, plus tip, I would have expected much better food and to be impressed by more than just the ambience and dessert.

A NOLA classic!!! Amazing staff, cuisine, and atmosphere. My wife and I took our family for a Christmas celebration and was filled with a lifetime of memories. Turtle soup is not to be missed. Make sure you walk through the kitchen on the way out.

We had a fabulous dinner on Sunday 9/20/2020. We were taken on time for our 8:00pm
reservation and they adhered to the new reopening protocols. The servers were very friendly, fun and cordial. We did not feel rushed at all. Customer service was exceptional, thank you to the security guard outside who filled us in on the surrounding history of the area and walked us to our car. So glad they are back up and running. Can t wait to come back!!!

My wife's fish was amazing. I had the short rib and it was awful. Rubbery texture and tasted terrible. Service was excellent. Our guests had the filet and said it was incredible. Great atmosphere just don't order the short rib.

I couldn't wait to dine at this historic , landmark restaurant, established in the late 1880's. When I walked in I was welcomed by the entire wait staff, then escorted to my table. The wait staff is impeccably efficient, friendly and very customer-service oriented. I even received a welcoming visit from the on-duty manager. Everything I ordered (and didn't order for that matter) was delicious! I was offered fresh, straight from the oven, toasted bread with fresh crushed garlic, parmesan cheese and herbs. I was then served a sampling of the chef's special of oxtail stew with accompaniments of marinated veggies. I couldn't make up my mind with the soup selection since they had many to choose from. The restaurant solved my dilemma by offering Soup 9-1-1: a demi cup serving of their 3 most popular soups: their famous turtle soup (yes real alligator-snapping turtle and of course it tastes like chicken!), Louisiana gumbo and their soup de jour, a tomato-based soup with chipolte pepper. My entree selection was the fresh, blackened Gulf of Mexico pompano filet served over gnocchi and fresh steamed summer vegetables that included tear-drop heirloom roasted tomatoes, corn, soy beans and shaved radishes with a light cream sauce.

Yum

Hands down one of my best dining experiences ever. I have always heard about this place, but I have never been here, until now.

We went for a Sunday brunch. The atmosphere was ideal. The servers were amazing. I love going somewhere the service is high touch and not overbearing. If you glass ran low, they always offered to refresh/replace it.

The food is quite good. All food at the table is served at once, so it is akin to any white glove service that you have had at other places.

I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

40 years and a day ago we held our wedding rehearsal dinner there and returned for our 40th anniversary. The food was excellent and the service sublime. We definitely won t wait another 40 years.

Incredible dining experience. The service and personal attention paid to each and every guest is astounding (probably a reason there are so many awards on the wall). The drink menu was fantastic, the food was unbelievable (I know everyone says it, but try the bread pudding), and the atmosphere was comfortable and extravagant at the same time. For all this, you'd think you'd pay $100/person, but most of the meals were very reasonable within the mid-upper 30's for entrees. Will definitely be coming back soon.

The Jazz Brunch is a phenomenal experience and a must-do if you are visiting New Orleans. They take song requests and truly seem to enjoy what they're doing. The drink options and food are also wonderful.

We went for the weekend jazz brunch. Service: top-notch, VERY courteous and polite, southern charm with fine dining polish. Food: can be traditional (and definitely has its place in such a stalwart food destination), but that can also be its downfall. The turtle soup I got as an appetizer, for instance, was tart and thick, not at all what I d expected. My wife s salad sounded interesting (included cantaloupe and duck prosciutto), but ended up being boring and lacked flavor. My wife s entree (Cochon De Lait Eggs Benedict) however had great flavor and the biscuits were to die for, but they used 3 times more pork than necessary we re talking probably 8-10 ounces of pulled pork here and it dominated the dish. My entree (Pecan Crusted Gulf fish) was well made, full of good flavor, but didn t have any kind of modern flair or interesting twist to it again, not necessarily a bad thing, just don t come looking for that. Overall, our experience was a good one and the jazz trio they had was very talented, but I think if I m going to drop that kind of coin on a brunch, I d want it to be the best brunch ever I d ever had and it fell short of that a ways. Anyway, my two cents, your mileage may vary.

An overall incredible time, this is the perfect place. Valet takes your car and you are escorted to one of many beautiful rooms. We enjoyed brunch, a three course delight filled with tasty ingredients and filling portions. A group of waiters caters your every need, never out a drink, always hot bread. A worthy price for one of the best dining experiences you'll ever have.

This is the ONLY restaurant I have ever been to where they replaced my wife's white napkin with a black one to match her dress. That is just an example of what the service is like. And the food and drink is nothing to scoff at either. Make sure to get a sazerac if you are the drinking type!

A must-go spot in New Orleans. It's a landmark and has every bit of Southern Charm. The cheery, bright and colorful atmosphere, bubbly staff and unapologetically Southern menu all lend themselves to a delightful experience.
I came here for brunch and took in this wonderful meal slowly unfolded. The turtle soup and gumbo were both robust, flavorful and perfectly portioned.
The crawfish omelette was yummy and innovative. The drinks were solid but not the most outstanding. Honestly, just make sure to order a souffle and take in all the atmosphere... the live big band jazz and the amazing. people. watching!
