There are hipper restaurants, more creative restaurants, and fancier restaurants in New Orleans, but I don't believe there is a better restaurant in New Orleans. The service is impeccable, the menu is classic but always moving forward, and the space is lovely. I've come to Commander's dozens of times and I hope to come back many dozens more.

My husband took me here for our 20 year anniversary and it was everything and more that i hoped it would be. We go to New Orleans every year and this was my first time eating here. The staff was absolutely amazing! My husband mentioned he loved their coffee and the waiter came back with a bag of it and gave it to us for an anniversary gift! What service

My wife and I decided to go here to celebrate our 5y anniversary... it was well worth it. The service was great and we were treated like royalty. The drinks were great and the food was really delicious. It is a pricey place, but you already know that before you go in so you can't complain about it. Very pleased overall and we recommend it to anyone who wants to have a special dinner.

Wait staff Service was terrible. We had been looking forward to this restaurant since we started planning our trip to New Orleans. There was no "Welcome to Commanders Palace...have you been here before?" No summary of soup de jour, or gumbo de jour. We chose the 3 course dinner- paired with the recommended wine, but the Captain and Waitress had very harsh attitudes when I said I wanted to see what I was eating to pair my wine with my food. You shouldn't be serving at a place with $40 entrees if you aren't willing to go above and beyond for your customers. It was quite disappointing.

The entree menu was very limited. Service was good, soup and dessert were very good. But the entrees were disappointing. Quail was mostly stuffing, fish choices limited and over seasoned. Upstairs was very noisy. And very pricey as expected.

We had an excellent time, with prompt service and delicious food. However when I went to the restroom I overheard a few waiters speaking poorly about a table that apparently only came for desert.

Good food. Excellent service. Busy - busy ambiance. Dress code "upscale business," most folks abiding. Pacing is for a two-hour dinner: plenty of time for conversation between courses. The noise level never interfered with two-pronged communication, though sometimes others at our table would have to lean in to hear. Their custom is to decorate a celebration table with a trio of 1-foot balloons on rods, preventing incessant movement.

Food: filet mignon butterflied served on a bed of mashed potatoes was done as requested ; salad was "fluffy," lettuce and other veggies were prepared so that you could pick up a forkful half-inch high and you'd have no trouble getting it to your mouth; shrimp and tasso appetizer with a pepper glaze-sauce was a nice surprise-delight; bread pudding was served looking like a giant cupcake, but very light in the mouth with a white well-balanced whiskey sauce. (My partner wished her serving of pate was a bit bigger, as she finished it too quickly.)

Our table was in the room at the bottom of the stairs, so the traffic for the second floor tables - arriving and departing guests and much of their food added to the server traffic to four tables surrounding ours. But we stayed for the whole meal without complaining. Suggestions: 1) make a reservation; 2) when reserving, ask for a table on the first floor, away from the aisle to the stairs; prepare to enjoy some good cooking.

Love the $.25 martinis during weekday lunches! Weekends feature jazz brunch, with a live jazz trio/quartet serenading guests as they dine. Menu staples include turtle soup with a drizzle of sherry, lacquered duck, and bread pudding. Great classic New Orleans atmosphere, semi-casual dress code, and an amazing treetop view of the cemetery. Expensive, but worth it for a special occasion - don't forget to make a reservation!

Disappointing experience. Steak was way over seasoned, 2 orders were wrong on entree, 1 on dessert. Tried to charge for 3 desserts that were included in entree pricing according to menu. Waiter had to be flagged down for drink refills. After 3 different corrections to our check, the waiter asked if I had it together yet. Actually they overcharged $12 before corrections. Won't return.

I went here with my wife and our good friends tonight and had a great time. Of course this is a high end establishment so be prepared to spend a couple hundred bucks if you plan on imbibing on alcohol, appetizers, and desserts.

To start of we had the escargot, salad, and turtle soup. For our entrees , my wife ate the scallops with grits. I devoured the duck with sweet potatoes. We also had a side for the table of goat cheese grits.

The food was outstanding and the service equaled the cuisine. I don't eat out like this very often. This was a special occasion around the holidays with friends. I'd definitely come back in the future.

Rude, rigid, unbending. I'm sure it's probably good food, but the maitre'd was less than helpful and more like an automaton who slavishly follows the rules of "corporate". He sort of reminded me of the small person in the "Carnivale" on HBO. His recurring line in that show was "Management says . . . "

A really nice place for a top notch dining experience. The menu is excellent and the service is also. Reminds me a lot of the Washington Inn in Cape May. The old Lafayette cemetery across the street is a great place to idle away some time before your reservation. I doubt this great place will disappoint.

One stop I knew I had to make on my most recent vacation, made reservations for lunch time and 25 cent martinis. We were seated upstairs in the garden room and it was gorgeous. Highly recommend planning this stop if you're traveling to New Orleans.

A friend that was in town the same time I was spending a few weeks in NOLA insisted that we try this restaurant. I'm glad we did, it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. We did the chiefs meals with the wine pairing and it was absolutely amazing. There were several presentations and each built on the other. They weren't large portions but in all it was very satisfying, definitely did not leave hungry. The service is impeccable and you can actually carry on a conversation, that was a welcome treat since most places anymore are blasting the music. If you haven't tried it, you should.

Its where all the rich people go to get fat. Fried. My wife is a strict vegetarian. And let me tell you, the salad was a miSTEAK. Cross contamination. Geez. I left the restaurant feeling fat and sad

We have loved dining at Commander's Palace since the late 1980's, and I particularly like their signature dessert, Bananas Foster.

However, the last time we ate there the Bananas Foster was served to me with brown (rotten) bananas. I sent it back twice, and then complained to the head of the floor. I was told that at that time of the year, they had trouble keeping fresh bananas. I told her that in such case, they shouldn't serve bad Bananas Foster made with rotten bananas, instead of what transpired.

We'll try it again next trip, but I may ask first about the bananas before I sit down. Many other great places in New Orleans that care about the quality of the food they serve.

One of the most amazing restaurants I've been to in a long time. Going for lunch is definitely your best option for price. You get the same quality of food but a much cheaper price. They have $0.25 martinis at lunch time. They are absolutely delicious as is the food and the bread pudding souffle at the end. I had turtle soup, and some sort of Pork Dish as my main. The atmosphere is beautiful and I would definitely look forward to visiting again next time I'm in New Orleans.

Loved this restaurant. Beautiful view (try to sit in the garden room). Wonderful service and delicious food. From the salad to the shrimp and grits to the blueberry shortcake. Every bite was delicious!!!

We had another opportunity to visit this restaurant. This time for dinner. While the service was still top notch I was a little less impressed this time. We had an 8:30 dinner reservation for the garden room. When we arrived they said the wait for that room would be at least a half hour or more. We were disappointed not to get to sit in that room. While I know there are no guarantees I made the reservation at least a month in advance so hoped the room choice would be honored.

The food and the table were very nice. Our waitress was adorable. We had a great time. We were the last two in the restaurant, we were finishing our glass of wine after desert and all the servers were cleaning the dining room and the tables acting like okay guys you gotta go ... I thought that was a shame and not really nice coming from a high end restaurant...

Wow, this place is not just a restaurant, it is an experience. Great food, great service, and awesome atmosphere. Top 10 restaurants I have ever been to. I recommend anybody that can afford it to go there.

Some truly excellent food. I don't think any plate that hit our table was anything short of very good, and many were great. The staff were courteous and attentive. The only downside (which you probably won't experience) is that our table was right next to the staging area for the upper dining room, so we had a steady stream of wait staff and regular chair bumps over the evening. Nothing awful, but at this caliber and price point of restaurant not something I would have expected.

May have been one of the worst high end restaurants I have ever been to. Front staff was extremely rude and jokingly accused someone in the party of being a thief for looking at some stuff they had on display. Steak was cooked extremely poorly and tasted horrible, bread pudding was disgusting, latte came out cold. Skip this place and literally go anywhere else in the entire city and you will have better food for a fraction of the cost.

Amazing restaurant. I've been 3 times and it is a requirement when I visit New Orleans. I've brought groups of 8 and 10 and the service and food is always impeccable. The $.25 martinis are also a nice perk.

Historic building and famous restaurant! Food was tasty, and the cocktails were fun. Highly recommend the soup 1-1-1 trip (turtle, gumbo, de jour). Don't forget to save room for dessert!

In my opinion this is the resturant that all others in n o should look to match. Everything was wonderful from the moment we entered the door. I dropped a fork and I swear, our waiter had me another before it hit the floor. We went there our last night in N O and it was the perfect ending.

Yes. Just Yes. This is the place where Emeril Lagasse, Paul Prudhomme, Jamie Shannon among many started their careers. A mainstay in New Orleans since 1893. Brunch here, especially during Mardi Gras is a bucket-list item. Make reservations at least 3 months ahead!

Beautiful location in the heart of the Garden District. Upscale kind of restaurant with lovely staff. It can be a bit pricey but it's worth it. Nice food, especially the souffle. Word of warning: dress up to go here, no flip flops or shorts. This is not a casual place

I've always had dinner previously but this was the first lunch and it did not disappoint. The staff is spectacular as always. Lunch menu was spectacular and the quail was a highlight.

If you're ready to go fancy, this place is really top drawer. I did not enjoy the famous bread pudding dessert, but everything else was so full of flavor. They really did seafood right.

There may be no better restaurant in terms of food, service, environment, and overall experience. The layers of history combined with the genuine New Orleans culture on display make for a dining experience that goes well beyond the food, which is by itself excellent anyway. We went to a recent jazz brunch and were quite simply thrilled. The music, the "second line" , the balloons, and the animation of the wait staff really did make the whole experience feel celebratory in a way I've never seen executed elsewhere. The bread pudding souffle and turtle soup are a must, but beyond that I'm certain you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Dress up, and order a cocktail. You won't be sorry.

Sublime- wonderful food, wonderful people. Ella Brennan is an inspiration and the legacy she has created is a gift to the world. I recommend watching the Netflix documentary Commanding The Table before you visit, it just helps you appreciate the experience that much more <3

This is a famous restaurant that deserves its reputation. It's modern, Creole based cooking is a delight. We had a salad of satsumas, dried fruit, pecans, and greens, with a delicate vinagrette, and pork belly glazed with a smoky sauce and couscous. My entree was duck breast with dirty farro, a delicious combo. Dessert was a bread pudding souffle, light and soft but tasting just like bread pudding. Service was excellent and the restaurant decor charming. You should go!
