The restaurant is very nice itself indoor & outdoor. Love the outdoor sitting area but it was wet from the heavy rain the other day so got the reserved table inside. The restaurant also has upstairs sitting. Customer services were upscale & very attentive to customers. They really do take dress code seriously. Short, T-shirt, ripped jean are prohibited here. Be aware before come here. Reservation is MUST as people do take 2 - 3 hours to finish their meals. Waiters & waitresses are very mindful when to bring over your dishes. So don't expect everything will be on the table at the same time. The waiting time between each course probably between 10 - 20 minutes. I ordered the 2 courses lunch special. Deep fried local catfish for $22 with choice of blueberry salad which is better than Commander salad as I noticed it was very simple (romaine lettuce with bacon) from the other table. The second one was pork shoulder tostada for $18 with choice of chicken mushroom soup. I preferred the pork shoulder than catfish in term of flavor. The catfish was very crispy but not too much flavor. Both blueberry salad & the soup were fantastic. The restaurant offers complimentary garlic breads which were bit salty to eat by itself. But the unsalted creamy butter will balance it out. You MUST order $0.25 martini especially you love to drink. Other choices will be $6 glass of wine, $5 margarita, also cocktail but forgot the price. Not sure if these special deal drink will be offered at dinner time. Last but not least will be dessert. I went with Creole bread pudding with whiskey sauce which was bit too sweet for me but will balance out when you eat it with the restaurant dark coffee at the end of your meal which your waiter or waitress will ask you if you want coffee or not. The coffee costs $3. It is not free if people are wondering. Overall great experience if visit New Orleans. I don't see the woww factor for me to come back 2nd time.

One of the best restaurants in New Orleans. The food is amazing the atmosphere is so fancy. Really is a classic and worth every penny. The turtle soup is really one of the most interesting things but is one of the best things on the menu.

This is hands down the best meal experience of my life. They know how to treat people. The food is phenomenal. We had shrimp and tasso for an appetizer. They had a special whiskey soaked salmon that we also ordered. For the main course I had the most tender Angus beef I have ever had. My wife got the shrimp currey. Both were to die for. I highly suggest the Lally parfait for dessert. If you are in New Orleans. Commander's Palace is a MUST.

Delightful. Live 3 piece music going from room to room with new Orleans flavored music. Service was outstanding. We were there for brunch. Even though there are 4 dollar signs associated with this restaurant, the value is high More

Only went to the bar but the experience was terrific! The bar manager was extremely well-informed about his stock and a skillful mixologist. The place is very upscale, so dress appropriately. Strongly recommended!

Outstanding restaurant, although a strange route through the kitchen to get to one of the dining rooms. Food was excellent. The staff was great, all working as a team to make sure each table was taken care of. They were ever present but managed to be unobtrusive.

The food here is world-class. Some of the best I've ever had. My wife and I went here while we were in town for our anniversary. I had heard of this place decades ago and thought I'd treat her to a nice restaurant. And it IS super nice. They recommend that men wear coats, so since I had flown in without a coat, I bought one, but there are plenty of people wearing short sleeve shirts, golf vests, button downs, etc. so that's clearly an image they're trying to maintain but failing. Don't go out of your way to get a coat. The place is absolutely gorgeous, and it's charming to walk through the kitchen to get to your seat. The service is great - sort of. It's supposed to be, and the staff is well-trained, and there will be at least four people who make contact with your table. But in a restaurant so expensive, the servers likely make the better part of six figures, so they're hustling for their tips, and a table of two people who clearly are here only for a special occasion (I told them in the reservation it was my anniversary - a mistake) get neglected for the big tables where the tips will be over $100. I had planned to tip as high as 100% this evening, but I tipped a penny less than 10% just to let my server Randy know that his service sucked. It was showy but ridiculously slow, and he rushed past my table numerous times when it was unnecessary to do so, clearly focused on the table of six next to me. When both of us are sitting with empty plates and empty glasses, waiting on the dessert that we foolishly pre-ordered, hands in laps, and trying to make eye contact with the server, for ten minutes, that's Applebee's level stuff. Also my waiter was poorly groomed, with hair that had clearly skipped a shower and a beard that needed attention. Again, the food was as good as you'll have anywhere (the turtle soup is a must, and the filet was outstanding), but New Orleans is chock-full of great restaurants. I'll definitely be trying some of them on my next visit. Edit: I don't know how to reply to Sam in the comment below, but rather than focusing on a specific event, focus on the general attitude of waitstaff. In the tip economy, it's natural to hustle the big tables, but if you neglect the little tables, that is a nonstarter. The thing is, even at a big table, we can all detect the fake service, the tip-hustling, and it's unappealing. If you approach your job as a server from a place of gratitude for the customers -- people, just like you -- who are financially in a place to eat there, you'll be more inclined to genuinely care about their dining experience. You'll shave and wash your hair. You'll pay attention to their table and their needs. You'll CARE. I was there on Saturday, January 4, I believe.

My wife is a connoisseur of strawberry shortcake and she said this was the best she'd ever had. You know you are at a fine restaurant when they bring you a fresh water glass with your entree.

Wonderful traditional and why have I waited this long to visit Commanders palace. The service is excellent and the .25 martinis are just what the commander ordered. It gets packed for lunch. There s a dress code too. Try all the servers recommendations.

Visited here for the first time this week and all I can say is that this is one of my new favorite spots! The food is wonderful and the drinks are great... The pickles and red onions are made in house and are fresh and light to the taste. The staff and owner are super friendly and I definitely recommend the bread pudding. We will definitely be coming back!

The food was top of the line in preparation, and the Cook's technique shined through.

Not a local, and where I am from you don't get this quality at this price point. I'm used to razzmatazz plating on non plates #wewantplates and other non-food related jiggery-pokery. I'm Glad to have found a place that stays true to the tradition of Escoffier.

I walked in for lunch without reservations as they opened, and was greeted individually by a phalanx of wait staff lining up in the hall. What an entrance.

Overrated! Nothing special about the food here. The signature turtle soup didn't do anything got us. We got the 1-1-1 which was a taste of the three soups they offer and all three tasted the same. The bbq shrimp were okay, the crayfish gnocchi was okay. The best part was the bread pudding dessert. There are some amazing restaurants in New Orleans like GW fins and Resolution. This restaurant is not one of them.

This iconic restaurant is a solid 5 across the board, from the picturesque scenery and outstanding service, to the perfectly prepared meals. Being in the events/hospitality industry myself, I am hard to please to say the least, but Commander's Palace was an experience that I will never forget. I have never had that level of superior service, and will continue to visit whenever I am in New Orleans. Outstanding!

Everyone said this was a must go to place. We did the "Jazz Brunch" but there wasn't any music playing for most of the meal. A few musicians will come around and ask you for money to play at the table. Service was slow and when I received my first drink, it looked like it had spilled and not filled up. I ordered the vegetarian main dish, which was the delicata squash, veggies and cream sauce. When they dropped the dish off, they said the plate was SOOO hot, but my first bite into the meal was COLD. It took a while to get someone's attention to ask if it was supposed to be cold and they took the dish back and must have microwaved it some more because when it came back, it was the same squash and I couldn't even cut into it it was so hard. It was bad. The waiter came back to tell me he "took it off the bill" but upon inspection, they "took off" the dish but added in other charges, so it felt like a cheap way to go about trying to make it right with us. My husband enjoyed his food but nothing about this place was worth it for me.

I was in town for a medical conference. Commander s palace was recommended to me. I went alone to try it out. The restaurant is expensive but you get what you pay for. The service is EXCELLENT. Let me say that again. The service was EXCELLENT. I had 3 waiters and a Maitre D making sure that I was enjoying my meal. The food has ample flavor and it is creole so if you are not accustomed to the flavors come with an open mind and just try something that you can t get at home. I recommend the turtle soup without the extra splash of cherry...unless you know that you like cherry. It was delish. I thought that a lot of thought and planning went into the menu. I am from Connecticut, and used to rate restaurants in New York City. As a restaurant critic , amongst other things, one of the qualilities that we were supposed to judge was cleanliness, if the bathroom of a restaurant is dirty than assume that the kitchen is too. Here there is no guessing. They walk you through the kitchen while leading you to your table. The kitchen is spotless and looks pretty exciting. One is temped to be curious and start peeking into pots. Also,
The wine list is well organized so that you can easily make your own selection if you choose. This is one of the best restaurants that I have been to and it is definitely worth it. I would come back and highly recommend it.

Great experience, okay food.

Great experience, okay food.

Generally, I was underwhelmed by the cuisine, but it was an overall enjoyable fine dining experience. If you want a show, order the bananas foster for dessert! For the drinkers, the cherry bourbon cocktail with the chocolate rim was a treat!

A-MAZ-ING! The giant old plantation style home with it's striped awnings threw me off a second but soon as you walk in, you feel like royalty and like you are transported in time. There is a number of hostess and wait staff lined up to welcome you and escort you to your table. The original architecture of the home is still there. Meaning each room has become separate little dinning areas. The lighting is whimsical and elegant. This is definitely a nicer restaurant and does have a bit of a dress code but who doesn't like to dress up and be treated like royalty. The atmosphere is heavy with romance, probably the reason my fiance proposed here. They have a fantastic wine selection. The food is fresh and has an upscale twist on the creole/cajun influences. My jambalaya stuffed quail was incredible. The staff were excellent. Since it was a special night, after the proposal they brought our complimentary champagne and congratulatory cheesecake. After dinner, they even gave us a guided tour through the kitchen and their exclusive wine cellar and gardens. I smile just thinking of the whole night. :)

Great atmosphere. If you're passing through New Orleans, it's a great visit for the history, tradition, and service. Beautiful setting (live oaks in the restaurant) and jazz music on Sundays. Wait staff was very attentive. Drinks were great. Unfortunately, the food doesn't quite live up to the rest. Dishes were good but not standout. Bread pudding souffle was a disappointment - too eggy and fluffy than normal bread pudding.

Phone call to make the reservation was delightful. Loved the effort to protect you in a pandemic. Temperature check on the way in, too. Got there early and it was great, until some crowds came in by dessert time. We left suddenly when it became too dangerous. My friend had the Gumbo and became ill. The other food was wonderful. Perhaps it is too soon for his kind of operation. Find a place where you can eat outside, instead, for now for safety.

Very fancy place, definitely dress up here even though I saw people in not so fancy clothes. Did feel like some people judged you if you weren't fancy or had a jacket (I was in dress clothes but no jacket) other than that the place is great. Food was amazing for a relatively decent price. Three people ate with multiple appetizers and a bottle of wine and when we got the check we were pleasantly surprised. The blueberry souffle was amazing get that if you go

Probably one of the best brunch in my lifetime. Try to sit outside if you can and take in what is the ultimate New Orleans jazz brunch. Reservations are a must and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

When I was a broke college kid at Tulane I could NEVER afford to eat here, but coming back 10 years later to do my birthday dinner here was a dream come true! Amazing food, top-tier service, all in a historic, one-of-a-kind building and area. I cannot wait to come back again someday!

Absolutely amazing 21st Birthday lunch! Our waitress was so sweet and made sure we were always taken care of. Jon Brown was also very attentive and Kevin made the lunch memorable!! He insisted on taking care of us above and beyond and didn t even want us lifting a finger! We made sure to joke with him the whole time we were there and handed him our empty drinks and used plates since he said we were doing too much ! He was hilarious. We will definitely be coming back on our next trip to New Orleans and hope to have the same staff.

Fare is phenomenal at Commander s Palace. The owner stopped by our table for a quick chat - highly appreciable. The Quail is excellent - rich, slightly sweet, and a great balance of savory with boudin. Waitstaff seem to be operating on an odd cadence - excessive wait between discussing something with the waiter and seeing them again. Our check was brought out before we were ready to leave - if the head waiter was more attentive this wouldn t have happened. Conclusion: Great food, just plan on waiting for it.

Commanders Palace doesn t disappoint. It is somewhat of a tourist must do . The food and service are great -not outstanding, once in a lifetime experience- but great. Are there better places to have dinner? Yes, but for some reason I always return to Commanders Palace when I stay for a week in NOLA. If you only have a few dinners on your schedule there are so many new restaurants, but Commanders Palace should be in your top 10. It s all very good, and worth saying you ve been, so enjoy the cuisine -impeccable- and give the lexicon of wine a spin and then order something reasonable.

Very nice atmosphere but sorry food does not live up to the hype. I had a shrimp over grits that was way too oily. Another ordered the same and really did not enjoy her shrimp nor grits. Others loved the duck entree.
Fourth plate was an encrusted red fish that enjoyed for its newness and novelty, but would not order it again. Service was kind of strange as they we very attentive to distraction. They kept giving wrong drinks in our to the wrong person in our party. They tried to bring other tables drinks, food and deserts. ..Really enjoyed but had major detractors.

Commanders Palace was the best restaurant we visited on our trip & we went quite a few!
They were very facilitating in joining our two reservations into one so our party of 15 could sit together.
Our waiter Troy was exceptional...his customer service was amazing! He also organized for us to do a second line in the restuarant behind the band!
Would def recommend Commanders to anyone who visits!
