Ups and downs on The Hub

Ups and downs on The Hub

I just have to admit that I was both looking forward and excited about what awaited me when I walked in the doors of The Hub.
The hotel that used to be there, Royal Christiania, was my favorite hotel for about 20 years and I probably had quite high expectations.
What you notice right away is the atmosphere.
I'm pretty conservative by myself and do not like too much bling bling, but here I think they have hit very well. It was not too much of anything at the same time as I saw the spectacular in a part of the design and installation.
The atmosphere was consistent. It sat in me throughout my stay and one simply enjoys this hotel.
However, there are some but up this too.

There are still obviously some hickups left (for those of us who followed the opening on Dplay, we know that there were various run-in problems)
I had chosen to spend NOK 500 extra to upgrade to a Deluxe room. I also chose to prepay this in Choice's app to save time at check-in.

As I said before, I felt the good feeling already when I entered the main entrance. However, there were some smokers who plagued the area but that is a problem all hotels have.
The Hub was pretty full that day, so instead of waiting for a receptionist to become available, I chose the option of registering cards myself in a self-help box. However, this did not work as the system had not detected my room upgrade. (It ended up that they reserved the amount twice. So then I do not understand the point of paying in advance via the app or on the internet. You do not save time anyway)
Fortunately, I did not have to wait long to get help. Very pleasant receptionist who was brilliant and came with all the information I needed.
In addition to being helpful, I felt that she enjoyed working here herself. It helps a lot in the atmosphere there too!
Fantastic system with the new lifts that choose which lift to use. I reckon that this is environmentally good and energy-saving over time. Good choice!

The room I was given was very nice. Nice fashionable colors. And once again - Great atmosphere.
The only problem was that it was so terribly cold. I tried to turn up and ended up at 30 degrees, but nothing happened.
It was also another big minus. The only chair in the room was a relatively uncomfortable office chair.
In a deluxe room for which you have paid extra, you should be able to expect that it is either a sofa or an armchair.
On the other hand, the bed was absolutely fantastic. Duvet and pillow that made you not want to get up.
Had it been two degrees warmer, sleep would have been ultimate.

In the morning I came to a wonderful breakfast area that invited to socialization and well-being.
Mostly the same food as at Royal Christiania but presented far nicer.

Beautiful structure, completely renovated, in the center and well served by public transport. Impeccable cleanliness, tasteful furnishings and standard breakfast.
It is a pity that we have chosen it also for the swimming pool and the Turkish bath - which were indicated in the announcement - and which were not available because they were in maintenance. And no discount or refund has been offered.
And unfortunately after the first night the staff did not redo the room. We left at 10am and returned at 6pm. We were forced to make the bed ourselves and ask for clean towels at the reception.

Nice to look at, far from nice to stay at.

Nice to look at, far from nice to stay at.

Cold rooms with temperature adjustment that does not work. Uncomfortably hot in the bathroom, also not possible to adjust. Shower works optimally.

Hotel staff who insist on checking the minibar several times throughout the afternoon. Towels are removed after use, but not always refilled.

Then there was the most important thing about hotels: Breakfast!
OK coffee.
Fried eggs at the opening of breakfast were ice cold, as they had recently been retrieved from the fridge the day before. Milk and juice kept room temperature. Baked goods frozen in the middle. Small selection of toppings.

Great place in every way and really enjoy coming here!! Been regularly traveling to Oslo and have tried plenty of hotels in Central Oslo with several chains. This hotell really hits the mark in terms of quality, service, comfort and more. Staff are attentive / solution driven and make you very well appreciated. Hotel offers a pool and gym in the basement as well, the gym is not the biggest but gets the job done while the pool might be somewhat dated but is a great feature compared to others in the area (it's clean and nice but since the hotel is ultra modern and renovated, this one was left as is). Live here one week per month and really like coming here every time.

Large beautiful rooms, got a choice between rooms with a view (more noise) or quiet rooms without a special view. Breakfast was of a very high standard and service was impeccable. The location could not have been better with everything within walking distance. Highly recommended.

Great hotel. Nice people at check-in. Very early breakfast, so we ate it out on the town. Clean rooms, lovely beds. They do not have parking, but can be found under the hotel at a very high daily rate.

Nice hotel near the station, central next to the Opera House. Lobby decor of dubious taste. Technological elevators but then to the floors you get lost in an endless series of convoluted corridors. And in the rooms is there a need for a gigantic TV screen and equally gigantic cushions at the expense of space for supports? Beautiful bathroom, finally with a support shelf. My room was noisy due to the constant passage of trams

Very nice hotel in central Oslo. Short road to shopping, nightlife, public transport etc. The staff is very nice and helpful. The rooms are nice and clean. The shower / bathroom has products from Rituals. Very good breakfast with good selection of food.

Stayed one night. Good nice place, internet was good. The hotel was under renovation which made for breakfast but the staff were very nice and fixed a breakfast bag which was quite ok. Hard to put more than 3 stars due to the renovation

Stayed here the week after they opened and nothing was finished. I am sure it will be a nice hotel once everything is in place, which I was told would be end of June. As of now I would book somewhere else or at least be aware that the hotel is half finished. Also stay away from the rooms on the 3. floor unless you want to stay next to the conference rooms and facilities. The breakfast buffet was quite disappointing for a hotel of this sort; no banana pancakes, no fresh orange juice, no omelettes etc. and don't get me started on the dryness of the bread selection.

Wow. One of the better hotels I have stayed in. For a richer person perhaps this i standard. For me this was really nice. Newly renovated. Nice design. Large hotel with many rooms. Rooms are nice, could have been cleaned a bit better. Behind an arm chair it was very dusty. The restaurants are modern and good. The breakfast is huge with lots and lots of options. But eat early before all the other guests arrive because it the it all becomes a bit messy.

The carpet is dirty with lots stains, tiny room space, even the wardrobe is tiny that could only fit one jacket. But the bed is the most comfortable one I had. The shower room design is silly, the only place you can hang your towel is straightly facing the shower head, you will definitely wet it. The AC unit is weird too, it doesn t have a switch so it is alway on. It doesn t have a panel to control the extract temperature and wind level, so it always blow strong wind over the bed. I guess I should pay more for a better room.

Much unfinished feels 3 months after the opera mtp room and work in times. 6 lifts, but you can be sure that your lift will come through all floors both up and down. A lot of technical problems. The fire alarm goes off relatively often on nights and evenings. The only thing that today saves the hotel from the rapids is the breakfast, with fresh pancakes and all kinds of topping you can imagine. TL; DR: If you don't want to worry about having to evacuate the hotel relatively often from the 13th floor, wait a few months for the hotel to actually finish.

Lovely hotel but oh my, the rooms looked small. Can't stand two in the bathroom and can't go to bed on either side Oh no .. But fantastic food there and drinks. Slightly sluggish with serving, but probably due to it being busy.
Nice to clean

We stayed here whilst attending the Inferno fest. It's a refurbished hotel, and service is polite and attentive. We stayed in a larger room, which is a worthwhile upgrade as some rooms are on the small side.
The breakfast buffet is one of the best I've seen with plenty of choices, and lots of seating available.
During our stay, room maids ignored any cards on your door, which was annoying and also the power was switched off to the lights and sockets in your room when you opened the room door. It then switched on again when you returned.
With so many devices nowadays that need charging, why not switch off the lighting circuit only?
Overall, the best place to stay centrally and close to all transport hubs.

Very disappointing stay. The rooms are very warm, and the air condition do absolutely nothing. You'll never hear or feel any air stream, and room is forever warm. You can open a window, but it doesn't help at all even though it's much much colder outside. Also be prepared to open the window to the noisiest part of Oslo, all night long.

The mattress is ok, but the sheets and linen are horrible - feels like the cheapest possible hotel quality. It's not ment for anything else than saving the hotel money.

If you arrive after 09 in the morning on a Friday, there is absolutely no way to get any clothes cleaned until Monday. Lucky you if you arrived here after a longer travel like I did. I was instead directed to a cleaner in a mall across the street that was open, also in Saturdays. They would be able to help me... Yeah they were open. They could return the clothes in 4-5 days... This was normal shirts and tees, nothing fancy.

You are lucky if you find any meat at all on any menus. Room service offer only a single option of $25 sandwich with a single small strip of ham on it. The other few choices are fish or vegan. Yeah, even the burger.

There is absolute nothing here that could raise this hotel above 3 stars, and it's certainly not worth the price. It is new and good looking room interior, and looks clean although again bedding is very dusty. Bathroom certainly was clean and with a very nice shower. That doesn't help when you have poor service, poor air quality, poor linen and noisy rooms though.
