I m not an employee or acquaintance of an employee for Chula Vista Resort. I open with that because I know that many (including me) wonder if 5 star reviews that go against otherwise lower ratings are just the company s attempt to pad the ratings.
That isn t the case at all. In late January, my wife and I were looking for a Dells Resort to surprise our two boys (9 and 13) with. Just one night stay.
But all of the other resorts were double the price of what Chula Vista offered. We saw some recent bad reviews and were worried that the Resort had gone downhill since our last positive visit a few years prior.
We booked a Saturday overnight in the South Tower (Villa rooms don t have access to underground/indoor tunnel access to the indoor waterpark, and we wanted to stay out of the snow and cold.
Despite bad reviews eclipsing good reviews, we booked it. And I m here to tell you that our stay was amazing.
Yes, there was a long line at registration, but it went fast. And to be honest, ALL Dells resorts have this issue. We ve been to them all. You just have to be patient and positive. When you get to the front, kill the Resort rep with kindness and a smile.
The line went quick and despite being nearly 3 hours early, she allowed us to check in (because the room was available). This was an awesome surprise. It may not happen all of the time, but we didn t even have to ask. (again, kill them with kindness and a smile).
I then whispered, Can we get a noon checkout instead of 10am? Because no one had the room after us, they allowed that, which was really nice.
The room was outstanding. I suggest booking through the customer service number to speak to a rep because the woman who helped us on the phone was so friendly. She got us a top floor room overlooking the river. It was clean and big. And even had a DVD player (most hotels don t allow that anymore).
The park was outstanding. A little smaller than Kalahari or Wilderness, sure, but has everything you need. And when the outside park is open, it s even better (based on previous summer stay).
The slides are great and the best thing is, since the Resort is further away from main strip (7 minutes), the lines are SO much shorter (and faster). We never had to wait more than a couple minutes for any slide, beside the coaster slide, which was maybe 5 minutes IF there any wait at all.
The lazy/adventure river is the best in the Dells in my opinion. Only park where kids don t NEED tubes (never understood why they need them). So it s more fun to explore.
The slides are all great. A couple fast ones for adventurous people, and three moderate ones for those who like a good slide but don t like big fast drops (me).
The one minus in my opinion is that there is only one hot tub in the whole indoor park. And since too many parents don t abide by the age limit (no kids under 6 and 6-12 must have adult there), it gets packed during peak park times. They could use one more (they have one outside I believe).
We did have an issue with a loud group of neighbors. But that s hardly the fault of the Resort. I recommend that the Resort consider a noise policy and back it up with security and I recommend that guests just be vigilant if it s THAT bad. You re going to deal with noise in any hotel. But this case was severe where these guests had NO regard and kept their doors open, going back and forth between rooms like a party at very late hours with horrible language. We called the front desk, but fell asleep before any further action was taken. Not the resort s fault beyond needing a noise policy that is overly communicated to guests and stringently enforced.
The breakfast buffet is outstanding. A 90 foot buffet. Have them work it into your cost.
The arcade was fun.
Overall, it was a five star stay when it comes to the resort itself. We had a blast. And for HALF the price of the other resorts.
Highly recommend it as a better and cheaper option especially.
