Sick and tired of this handicap behavior ! Went here to get a prescription that increases breast milk since my daughter has been in the NICU for 87 days , she can't eat like a regular baby would .. They are refusing to help me since I'm not 6 weeks postpardom ? Absolutely disgusting . I can't believe they refuse pateints in my situation was told "go to the walk in clinic " like I'm from Prince George i got airvacced here , i don't have a vehicle or any resources :( they where about to let me see a doctor until a nurse came up and told them not too after ID been waiting 15 minutes and gave the chick my care card i am horrified with there behavior and the fact they REFUSE to let me see a doctor

Would not recommend for COVID-19 testing.

They make you wait on hold for hours before giving out a Lab Visit Number that you require to access your test results. I have still not received mine since getting tested yesterday. As I write this, approaching 1 hour of listening to hold music.

I'm going into my 4th month of pregnancy and I am completely blown away by the doctors here. They are very supportive, professional, & sympathetic. I have had some complications along the way but I have been taken care of very well here. For any women who need to go here for anything pregnancy related i would come here. These doctors will make you feel safe and cared for. They have done more than enough. Thank you very much <3

Poor information they released me after asking a lot of times not knowing what's going on the right info my iv wasn't taking out til last minute sheesh

Nurses are amazing and some doctors better than others, but I went though 3 shift changes and sometimes never saw a doctor as they were so busy. Too many extensions of stay after stay. I felt they just wanted to pass you onto the next shift with no end. Great doctor care and detail, each different.

My wife is 12 weeks pregnant and has been heavily bleeding for last 4 weeks. We have been to ER at Loins gate hospital numerous times but doctors couldn't find the cause of bleeding. Contacted women's hospital to find if we can come and see the doctors there. The response I got was "we don't see patients without referral" I am law abiding tax payer and for last 15 years have been donating money to children hospital hoping they would provide care for ppl in need but I was a fool. Wasted my hard earned money to hear sorry we can't help. These ppl in health care are in for money, no sympathy for ppl going through hard times. Good bye children hospital... you lost a donor and will blog about service I got to make sure you loose more funding by showing the public what kind of services you offer. Above all when I asked for the agents name, she refused to give her name out. Very poor service.

Nothing but good experiences. Parking can be tough though.

Just had a disheartening experience at the Sadie Diamond Breast Health Imaging Centre at BC Women s Hospital, due to a technician who was rude and unprofessional. I have undergone diagnostics before in a different location and have prior history of cysts in my breasts I wanted to check if further action would be needed on a cyst I had recently found. The referral was sent to the Centre by my doctor.
The technician was already abrupt to begin with but this turned into her asking prodding questions in a berating tone about why my doctor had sent the referral, belittling the reason why I went to get a mammogram in the first place (I was considered young for one).
The technician could be having a bad day, but I should hope that she/they take more care in their communication with patients/patrons. This is an integral part of their jobs as healthcare professionals. Not asking to be coddled, but a little respect would be nice.
Regardless of the outcome of the tests, no one should be made to feel ashamed about seeking professional medical help for a concern they might sincerely be anxious and worried about (and have history of!). Way to make this an awful experience for a woman who's just trying to ensure her body is in order.

I went into this hospital at 10cm dilated and ready to push. I was wheeled into the first open area past the waiting room with about 8 people in it watching me (it wasn't a private room even though they had them there). They proceeded to give me pain medication I didn't want and had been holding off of for the entire labor. They gave me an epidural which I also didn't want while I was clearly in active labour. I was forced to lay flat on my back after spending almost the entire labour upright and the doctor told me I had two pushes to get my baby out or he would give me a cesarean. Pushing out a baby in two pushes is probably the most unnatural thing a woman can do and leads to consequences in the future but his threat made me determined and it turns out it is possible.
The epidural they gave me that I never wanted while I was in active labour ended up puncturing the area protecting the spinal column and led to a spinal headache. A spinal headache is basically when the fluid surrounding your brain starts leaking down your spinal column every time you stand up because the epidural needle punctured the area surrounding the spine. It is excruciatingly painful. I had to spend the first 4-6 weeks postpartum flat on my back in a dark room. I could barely care for my older daughter or keep an eye on her as I was in so much pain.I could stand for about a minute at a time before I'd have to lay flay on my back again.
I feel like so many medical issues that arose after going into this hospital could have been avoided if they just let me push (preferably not while laying flay on my back), caught the baby and handed him to me.

Tha staff are really friendly and helpful. If pragnant women has MSP insurance it is the right place for her otherwise the prices are really high. For example just showing up in emergency room for a simple pain will cost at least C$800. However the services are seamless.

Incredibly caring people work here. Lots of comfy seats for waiting partners.

Ultrasound dept 2 stars...Very disappointed with the service I received in the ultrasound centre yesterday. There was a resident doctor who covered me in gel... far too much gel it was ridiculous. And then the ultrasound was rushed at the end because they were running out of time, and because of this they kind of threw a towel at me and said they're done clean up. And then they left. No photos were given, and when we left the room we saw them sitting in a room on lunch. If you can help it, don't book an appointment between 11.15 and 12. Because they will just walk out and leave you. No communication during the scan... I had to keep asking questions and they kept shutting me down.

Diabetes centre 5 stars... wonderful people. Very patient explaining everything to me. And super understanding of my fear of needles. Really lovely and experienced people... Although they only seem to be open Tues and Wed mornings to 2pm. Especially grateful for the help of Rena, Kecia, Maureen and Dr Thompson.

Parking is expensive... but convenient as you can use a debit and credit card to pay.

I'm what first world country with a 'world renowned' hospital that gets hundreds millions in donations would a child have to wait 6 hours at night to get checked up? We arrived with our three month old premature child at ER at 11 pm and had to wait until 5 a.m. for a doctor to see her for 5 minutes. The nurses were so rude and condescending they made an already anxious me eveno mupset and did nothing to help except blame me for things that even the doctor said we're totally fine to do.

I feel like my child got worse having to wait in a cold and uncomfortable room than if she was at home.

Horrible just horrible.

Had my first born delivered here. Top notch facility but what really gets this place 5 stars are the staff.. every single nurse and dr we met was amazing.

I've visited many hospitals and I'd have to say this is by far the best hospital. Reason being is that the staffs are amazing. The staff at the women's health centre and CARE program make you feel super welcome and make you feel very cared for. The environment makes you feel very comfortable and safe. Thank you for your great service!!

Excellent hospital. Staff are experienced, caring and care. Couldn't ask for a better hospital for our baby. What a world of difference to RCCH where the doctor/s didn't even bother turning up for the baby.

My wife and I just had a baby at woman's and had a really bad experience. Our Labour was great but the after care was like being in prison.

Parking. We arrived late at night and didn't see the signs about parking, nor was our focus really on parking but more on getting in the hospital to have a baby. We parked, paid for 24hrs parking and thought we where fine. After playing for an additional day at the meter without returning to the car on the 3rd day I finally get the ability to go out to the car with our bright start parking pass only to find 2 tickets on my car. Turns out I parked in a employee stall (1st ticket) and also a 4 hour limit stall (2nd ticket. The parking meters excepted my payments and gave no indication of restricted parking for the stall I entered, nor did the register nurse, bright start staff or other nursing staff ask or mention the restricted parking near the labour and delivery entrance.

The other issue was the temperature of the room after our baby was born. 3 days we roasted at 28 Celsius, begging for someone to turn down the heat. We weren't allowed to keep our door open cause of the baby cry's and it wasn't until I informed the staff we where leaving despite out medical issues that they finally got someone from maintained down to fix the problem. It was like we had no rights to be comfortable.

Instead of having the feeling of I can't believe they are letting us leave with the baby, we could only cry on the car ride home for getting free from the hellish heat and uncomfortable hospital stay.

Their knowledge and skill level are poor. Doctors can not solve complicated problems and one of the nurses does not even know how to use needle properly. Unfortunately our health care system is a failure. Waste of taxpayers money. Hope for a change.

My wife and I recently had our first child here. All of the doctors and nurses were very professional, caring, helpful and kind. Especially nurse Emma, Yen, Money and Mary. These nurses went above and beyond their job parameters to make sure we were okay. Special shout out to Emma who stuck around with us to make sure we were okay and take photos even though it was way past her shift!

Everyone who worked here were really passionate in what they do and my wife and I are very grateful to have delivered our first baby here. It gave me real piece of mind knowing that my wife and baby were in very good hands.

The physiotherapist Marcella Paoletti at BC Women s Hospital offers fantastic service. She respond in a super efficient manner. She is skilled in her work and She is very friendly. I highly highly highly recommend her.

My experience here has been nothing but great. The nurses and doctors were very friendly and understanding of my situation. They made me feel welcomed and calm at all time. The counselor that helped me at first kept in touch with me and would email/call me to make sure I was doing well. It was very thoughtful of her and I felt like I had someone I could talk to anytime.

We had our first baby 6 weeks ago. You made the experience memorable. Thank you for the wonderful care and support for all the days we were there. You are the best hospital one could ever wish for. Looking forward to having our next birth (s) there:)

I would recommend this hospital for everyone!

I see complaints from locals about wait times and whatever the common hospital rants are. My wife had pregnancy complications and we were flown in. The staff were great! Very helpful and as a visitor they helped find a place to stay transportation and all of that. When health conditions from around the province are being flown in and you have to wait 6 hrs for emergency for a smaller issue. Remember we have been to our local hospitals already and because of severity not choice have been put into health central. Thankyou to BC Women's Hospital

Delivery staff and all nurses in the old side of hospital were a 5 + just excellent and beyond any words how committed and caring from UCC, really good top notch doctors. Appreciate that service manager came and asked for my experience of 5 day stay. The room not fancy but nurses were great!
However, my full term baby was at NICU for one month for traumatic birth NICU nurses were hit and miss with quality of services (Somehow senior nurses were great the rest ok to outright immature and terrible ) After first week, my experience was HORRENDOUS. Communication poor at NICU and you felt dumped off a cliff to be a parent with no communication and support after they do all testing etc and you have a baby that doesn t feed! The care team of doctors/nurses change everyday to no benefit to your baby; they did medical procedures without informing you like attempt to put an IV in my baby left temple while we not there and many things very traumatic. I was most shocked that there was no care plan or one communicated written. Although there was a care plan on the white board not once did anyone use it in my month there or explain roles and responsibilities. Very obvious that there is very little accountability for what they do there. No option for meaningful feedback but a superficial board in the back where you can write two sentences. Lack of consistent messaging especially young nurses, a different one each day, not always available and just took marching orders to NG tube feed baby through the nose where baby forced feed changing amounts everyday; I didn t agree with always increasing amount baby puked ALL of feed quite regularly; this was always downplayed as spit up When you are not there nurses plunge baby full of milk via NG because it was always easier to feed baby and took less effort. Pressure to do intrusive measure like G tube, to go home, or you won t be priority to get surgery if discharged. Cleaning / stock people coming in and watching you try to nurse. I was a strong advocate that g tube surgery was not needed and within two weeks at home my baby fed on his own fine and healthy and gained healthy weight. I am glad I didn t take their recommendation to put a g tube

I found it interesting that discharge literature from dietician advertised Nestle formula. All the beeping noise environment was terrible for a full term baby development no toys or development items. I always felt I had to be a strong advocate and trusted my gut and talk to head nurse if issue arise. You need to ask for doctor to speak to you or they don t really bother and move on with their rounds. We made effort to make sure our presence and voice heard every Monday; Be prepare that after two minutes of speaking to you I have to chart is nurses common language

Before pregnancy went to reproductive mental health to get information and within one hour of being interviewed by an intern ONCE with Dr Kennedy was given an anti psychotic prescription for daily use with no formal mental health history whatsoever just work stress and pregnancy. I was made to feel like a criminal somehow when I said no. Psychiatrist are very quick to drug people and are big pharma subsidized pill pushers and it is a downward spiral from there. 6 month after birth doing great and glad I just didn t blindly do whatever these health professionals think is best for you. My baby would of had a permanent scar for a g tube; I would of been addicted to their medication which would of poisoned my infant via breast milk. Medication is the cheapest and easiest solution rather than offer counselling and meaningful service. I felt the system was designed to make you feel inadequate and that you needed to agree to drugs to get services. Just a flawed approach altogether from the very start. This put me off from getting services from a system I mistrusted especially going there voluntarily and was being proactive; but felt I was treated with no dignity and talked down to. They did not offer anything unique that I could not get from community healthcare.

Our delivery here was really abnormal. The staff responded flawlessly. Aftercare here has been fantastic as well. The staff has been very thorough and involved in our health.

Parking is brutal though, it has probably the smallest parking spaces in Vancouver.

I was in for a day surgery today and was impressed by the care given! All the nurses were exceptional and made me feel very comfortable. Thank you!

Good learning hospital looks great and clean huge place but empty why not help everyone.

I don't have words to describe the unbelievable!!
How come a hospital for pregnant women does not have an ultra-sound in the emergency?? What I know there is a bunch with professionals who knows how to use it at NCU as a friend of mine had her premature baby there.

Here is what happened with me, unfortunately.

On Sunday Aug 13 around 6 pm I went to BC Women Labour and Delivery complaining about cramps and bleeding (I WAS 10 weeks pregnant).
I was assessed by an UBC student, who was very kind. They did my blood test and a kind of scan (THEY DON'T HAVE ULTRA-SOUND ON WEEKENDS) which wasn't able to see if my baby was alive or not.

They referred me to the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic and I was told they would call me the next day and if I don't receive the call by noon, they asked me to call.

I asked the senior resident if I should go to St Paul's hospital and she said no, as the next day I would do the ultra-sound. But if the cramps or the bleeding increased, I should come back.

This WAS my first pregnancy and of course at 10:00 am on Monday - Aug 14 I called the clinic and I was told by a rude person that I have to wait for the call in the afternoon.... I patiently waited until 2:00 pm and then I called the clinic back. A very nice person answered the phone and told me that all nurses was clinicing and they are the only ones who book appointment and that I could leave a voice message, so they should called me back soon. I left a voice message as per instructions.

Later that afternnon (around 5:00 pm) the cramps and bleeding got worse and I went back to the hospital. I checked-in myself and after 30 min I asked if I would be able an ultra-sound... and guess what??? THEY DON'T DO ULTRA-SOUND AT NIGHT!!!! That was more than enough for me and I left the hospital and head to St Paul's hospital.

I got at St Paul's at 6:00 pm and they promptly assessed me and they were also not able to confirm if my babe was alive or not with their tests, so they referred me to a ultra-sound on next day Tuesday- Aug 15 and I was told I would receive a call from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. Guess what happened?? I got a call at 8:30 am and at 10:00 am I was at the St. Paul's ultra-sound department. Unfortunately, I found out that my babe wasn't alive any more and at 6:00 pm I had a D&C procedure and went home last night.

THE UNBELIEVABLE PART??? I DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL FROM EARLY PREGNANCY ASSESSMENT CLINIC UNTIL NOW THAT I AM WRITING THIS EMAIL!!!

BC staff couldn't have done anything for my babe and he/she stopped to grow at 8 weeks, just after I did my 1st ultra-sound but I sill don't believe that a hospital that suppose to look after pregnant women does not care as it should or do not provide the right information of what the parents should do.

As I said in the first line of my email, I know how GOOD BC Women was for my friend who spent months there trying to hold her pregnancy and her baby was born with 6 months instead 9 months and she is beautiful and healthy.... so my expectation was that high and not even a small effort was done by the staff.

I hope this never happens with another mother who look for assistance at BC Women hospital, as it is a national reference and please figure out what is happening in your our clinic, because they are not doing their job at all!!!

My daughter was born in this hospital this year and the service was exceptional. I didn't know what to expect with having my first baby. The nurses were all so warm and friendly. My room was large and had a tub and large bench type area for dad to lay down. They had heated towels and blankets they use during delivery. They give you a new small pack of newborn diapers and dry cloths. The mesh underwear they give you are the most comfortable thing you will ever wear and if you ask for more they give it to you. The food was awesome from the cafeteria. You can order a meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with lots of variety. I highly recommend the chicken wrap and burger if you want something filling after delivery. I hope if I have another baby to be delivering here again!

HORRIBLE! From 7:30 am till 2 pm I was in this hospital with pain and nobody came or checked on me .NO ONE gave me any painkiller.I was asking for epidural but there was no body no dr or nurse, till I was in labor.
I had a very bad experience for my first child! For the 3 days my husband slept on cold floor ,there was nothing there.I am not recommend this hospital to any body .If you give the birth a baby alone and in a forest at least you know nobody wont`t help you . I still see all these scary scenes in my nightmare! I should go to the psychologist if I wanna to have another baby!

Quite helpful, informative staff who have great attitudes with a diverse culture with non judgement. Very thankful to have resources like this in B.C

Great doctors and nursing staff. My wife came here for her first delivery and had a C-Section. Dining staff are incredibly stupid and unprofessional.... I ordered lunch for my wife with a side of Spaghetti and they never asked me if she wanted marinara sauce. I ve never ever seen dry spaghetti noodles served anywhere in the world before but it happened here and when I called to politely request that we get some marinara sauce the dining room employee rudely answered with, Actually.... We do not make SECOND trips for that kind of thing. When I asked isn t that kind of normal for those two to go together? She responded, No.... Actually it s not.... Very unprofessional, I guess I ll be getting the rest of her food from this point forward.

My partner had a heart problem, I called to their heart department and it went straight to voicemail, so I left them with my contact info as requested. After a few days of no reply, I decided to send an email to BC's Women asking if they could let the heart department know my situation, but they said that the ONLY way to contact them is thru the phone. So I called them one more time, and again it went straight to the voicemail, and I again left my contact info. Now, its been almost 2 weeks and still no call back! Her health could have gotten a lot worse in those 2 weeks! Really disappointed!

Bad experience for the after labor, just like stay in the hell, nurse are. good. and. helpful, but doctor's are just not that efficient. They just let you wait and wait and wait, and recommend stay one more night one after another. Don't think will ever come back again any time in the future! Hate this hospital so much!

Specialists here are seriously helping a good friend of mine after years of medical neglect at the family doctor level of care...

My wife had 3 beautiful and healthy babies here and our experience was absolutely wonderful and perfect. Especially considering babies 2 and 3 were twins! (Thank you, Dr. Blumenthal). Thumbs up!

Very helpful nonjudgemental medical team,I cant assume for all units or wards here but my experience so far has been challenging and emotional and the staff in the firsquare unit have gone and above to better help understand my struggles and help me learn how to retrain my brain. Old rooms tho, really needs an update in post partum wards.

The hospital has wide area. The parking area is very wide and good. The payment for parking is expensive a little bit, in downtown and this kind of area it is expected. After parking your vehicle you have to go inside and pay if you pass the first automatic door at the main entrance of the hospital. For inside service you have to follow the sign that located the location of services your need. The staffs are very good. I impressed about the friendly staff with helpful service. Thank you!

I had an appointment at the EPA Clinic and the staff couldn't have been better. They were super supportive and answered questions I didn't know I had. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and secure. I felt completely at ease and left feeling super positive about the next steps. I can't recommend them enough.

My wife was in BC Womens hospital and the nurses are amazing there and some of the Drs as well ! Only reason I gave it only 4 stars was some , but not all of the Drs we had were very impersonal and treated us like another number . We also had a Dr that was very unprofessional when it came to gossiping loudly and bad mouthing at the nurses station about the GP we have as a family Dr back in northern BC . The nurses are amazing though can't say enough good things about how they cared for my wife .

Re: Emergency Department: If u ACTUALLY have an emergency, u get attended to in a very timely manner. An emergency is what the Emergency Department is for. Non-emergencies is what late-hours clinics in the community are for.

Having Children s Hospital be a part of the same complex as Women s is GREAT for high-risk natal deliveries. For example, my niece had to be taken out of her mom via caesarean section, and she took her first breath too early, inhaling some amniotic fluid. With the two hospitals being physically connected, my niece was whisked into Children s Hospital s Neonatal ICU very quickly, and treated very quickly. While she recovered in the NICU, her mom recovered in a room at Women s; with the two hospitals being connected, her mom could visit very frequently :-)

I myself have received and continue to receive excellent care, at one of Women s specialized clinics/centres.

Some staff are very nice and gentle, like An-Julie, Leslie. But procedures got my wife suffer from pain a lot more. We are having our first baby delivery here. My wife was waiting for 2 hours, and contraction went to 9cm before she can see a doctor, which was our OB as well. She just came to check my wife and said she s ready to birth the baby then went home. Only one nurse and myself helped my wife to delivery. No doctor was there until my baby head is out, and my wife had to hold the push to wait for a the doctor ! My baby is born with low temperature, the hospital can not even provide a good temperature for baby. Every year there is million of dollars is donated to this hospital, but a small problem can not even be fixed. As a father, I am very frustrated.

Giving BC Women s a 5-star rating for the amazing baby we got there. Couldn t be happier with her. Really an amazing hospital and great healthcare team.

The nurses are amazing and the rest of the staff cares too, but the nurses....!!!

I was disappointed that this hospital does not provide a Birth Certificate or a document showing time and weight of a baby who were born at their facility.

The women at the hospital are very nice, but their phone service needs some serious work. I called yesterday and after being transferred around countless times from the pre-natal screening where I had my tests done to the assessment center, I was told by Nancy that they wouldn't see me since I didn't live in their district (I don't live in Vancouver, but I had my tests done there). It was an extremely urgent matter since I'm almost 17 weeks pregnant and they couldn't care less. I asked if they'd see me in emergency and she said no. I ended up going back to my walk-in clinic in Vancouver (I don't have a family doctor) and they saw me right away. Can you believe that a walk-in medical clinic treated me and helped me better than a specialized hospital??! I will NOT be delivering at this hospital under any circumstances. Stay away!

Labour went really well great nurses delivered but had the worst nurses for everything else. I spent hours trying to get my daughter to sleep and when I finally did a stupid nurse came in and woke her up at 2am. 2AM. My daughter lost it and so did we because we could never get her to sleep..and I had a terrible day and a grumpy daughter the rest of the day. Admittance was horrible as well my girlfriend's contractions were 4 mins apart and the lady next to her was 20 mins apart showing no pain..so,
Like the squids they are, they let the lady with no pain and 20 min apart contractions in first. Funny right? No. They also didn't have a bed available for 5 women going into labour. Don't go to this hospital, I've been to many others and seen much more success and common sense.

The most incredible staff, they made our delivery unforgettably amazing! Thank you to Juliette our mid wife on staff, what an angel she was...

The Doctors and nurses are fantastic, although having four people selling things come by in the morning after having my baby and needing rest was ridiculous. Only after I mentioned it to the nurse by lunch did she offer to put a do not disturb sign up. I would have thought that would have been done automatically.

I haven't been to this hospital for a number of years but had to go here this week.

The gentleman at the information kiosk was very polite and helpful. His directions were clear and concise.

The nurses here really put their patients first which is awesome!

Pregnancy
If you have gestational diabetes, the team here will constantly monitor you and follow up. And you can always reach them during the day.

Labour
The staff here are amazing!
I was induced and in labour for a total of 54 hrs combined. My health and the babies health were constantly being checked by every professional. You have a nurse with you for 24 hrs (until birth) checking baby and your vitals etc. Making you feel safe. All the nurses there during my 28ish hrs delivery were amazing! All of them!

The anesthesiologist team were amazing! I met with two (a British or Australian lady and Sadiq Abdul) Dr. Abdul the anesthesiologist was able to insert my epidural at 9cm dilation with horrible contractions and a spinal fusion at a 30 degree curve, effortlessly. Amazing! He was very skilled!

The senior OB (Dr. Woo) who delivered my baby was extremely experienced and very friendly. Made me feel safe.

The birthing rooms are very big and clean.

Postpartum
We were being seen by pediatricians, OBs, anesthesiologists, nurses, lactation consultants, you name it! To ensure our welbeing was great!

The rooms were very small, but okay for short stays. They will be having renovations to make these rooms bigger. I had a long stay for 4 days/3 nights, in the postpartum room, which made it a little difficult, but the care made up for it.

Dining
It was straightforward for moms in the postpartum rooms. You order what you'd like and add condiments such as ketchup, syrup for your pancakes etc. The instructions are easy to follow. The food was not bad, good enough to feed you and keep you full throughout the day. They say, food delivery is 45 mins, but it is more like 15 mins.

Cafeteria
The dads eat here. A little pricey (just like every other hospital) but the food there was good.

If I have a second child, I will definitely be here again (but with a c-section).
