The best meat butchers around (always happy to cut the way I want it) combined with great meat prices make this my go-to place for the grill and the freezer.

Express checkout cashier was too busy talking to customer to realize i had 14 items (1 below the limit) and told me i needed to go to regular check out. I did'nt know they had Karens employed there. 2:30 pm 10 Dec. 2020

They have a huge selection of international foods and their prices are pretty much the cheapest in town.

Although not the fanciest or the most beautiful grocery store in town, it is the best when it comes to the things that count. Great selection, excellent prices and nice people.
(Although I agree that there have been a couple times when employees have been a bit grumpy.) Anyway, each time I have been here, it has been a very positive experience.
I highly recommend this place.

Have bought a few bags of tortilla chips on different occasions and they were stale each time. Meat that I purchased was green they were pork chops

Checkers is my favorite grocery store in Lawrence KS. Excellent value, high quality fruit and veg. A very good meat selection. No fancy nonsense, you bag your own groceries, but that's what I prefer.

Checkers has cheap meat, but a lot of the time I buy it I feel like it probably should have been sold at least several days before. You can see holes in roast, etc from where they inject blood into the meat to keep it from looking so dark. The store is not usually very clean, but prices are good on food items.

Friendly and great neighborhood grocery store and excellent local growers presence! Highly recommend that you go shopping there!

Best place to get chicken gizzards reminds me of my youth

It seems since sprouts opened produce prices doubled. As always you have to go to 4 different stores just to get a deal on everything you need. Still like checkers though

Checkers is by far our best grocery store in Lawrence! Awesome produce that is locally grown! The meat department is stellar too!

The best stuff is cheaper at Checkers, and man is food cheap here. Produce is generally good, and they carry most major brands as well as the generic Best Choice kind (in my experience, it's just as good for a fraction of the price). You bag your own groceries, which might turn some folks off but that's another way they are able to keep prices low. The butcher offers almost every part of the animal for sale, and there are local meats as well. They offer a fantastic selection of Mexican and Asian groceries too.

I really like Checkers because of the variety and digital coupons. All the savings on gas is pretty great. The meat department is pretty solid and I can get things like ground bison. The employees are usually really nice and helpful. Who doesn't love Jan or Sara??

Hands down the best grocery store in Lawrence if your looking for value and quality. Very good meat selection and very good produce. They don't carry as many specialty items and they don't have a salad bar. Still a very good store.

They usually carry what I need and the staff are friendly. They're open 24/7!

I do most of my shopping here. The store is nice and they have great deals. If you are a college student on a budget, this is the store for you.

Checkers is the best grocery store I've ever been to. The produce is always fresh and they have a wide variety of ethnic products.

I go here almost weekly for my groceries. I love the prices...they have competitive prices on many items, but I especially love their selection of fresh hot peppers and Asian and Hispanic vegetables. It can be difficult to find these at your conventional grocery store.

The only downside to shopping here is the size of the store. The fluidity of maneuvering around the store can be difficult as you have to enter in one direction only and there really aren't any shortcuts to making it back over to the produce section if you realize you forgot something there once you make it to the grocery aisles or the freezer section. But besides this teeny downside, Checkers is a great place to buy produce and groceries. Oh, and the workers are pretty friendly too!
