Awful.. upon arrival the bathroom was disgusting after telling management they said it wasn't that bad.. both toilets full I guess thats ok.. for 400 per night I should not have to squat over full toilets..

Top notch staff, top notch accommodations. Great location gives you the ability to walk almost anywhere. The staff really is one of the best group of friendly, attentive people you'll ever want to meet. We stay here every time we're in Charleston.
Lovely hotel in the heart of downtown, convenient to all great food, shopping and parks. Rooftop terrace with pool that has a retractable roof! And reason we chose it - it's pet friendly, and really is - our lab has been made very welcome by all staff.
This is an excellent hotel. Beautiful inside and out. Standard rooms are spacious with high ceilings, regal appointments, and a pleasing color scheme. Plenty of power outlets scattered around the room. The universal lighting controls were a nice touch that added noticeable convenience. Good-sized pool and fitness center. Pool deck can be a hybrid indoor/outdoor area in the warmer months, and completely indoor in the cooler months. The location is unmatched. The City Market is on one side across the street, and the other side backs up to King Street. A multitude of great restaurants are close-by (Hyman s and Jestine s Kitchen, to name a few). It s just a 10-minute walk to the water. Hotel employees were all kind and courteous. There was some construction going on outside the hotel, closing some entrances periodically, but I understand these things are necessary and was not too inconvenienced by any of it.
If you choose to self-park, beware. The garage is owned and operated by a separate company and is open to the public. Interactions with employees and experiences with self-parking were inconsistent, unpleasant, and confusing. It was a shame that something as trivial as parking went on to taint an overall very positive stay. I expected more from a luxury hotel that prides itself on excellent service.
I found the hotel to be just like the pictures. The staff from Concierge, Registration, Housekeeping, Event, and Hospitality were all very welcoming. The atmosphere of the property is Southern Professional, and set a perfect scene on how the Charleston Aristocrats lived in the past. With modern amenities and relaxing rooms, the Belmond Charleston Place is a must-stay experience...well worth the cost.
This is a beautiful hotel in the middle of downtown Charleston. Hotel staff is doing an amazing job of being friendly while still taking covid protocols seriously (taking temperatures as guests arrive at the hotel). Everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful.
Beautiful hotel! We went at Christmas time. The lobby was decorated with trees, pointsettias, and a train set. It was fairly busy with people on the weekend coming in to take pictures there.
Hotel is very nice. Whole first floor was essentially a luxuary mall with plenty of high in stores. 3 nice restaurants/bars. Thoroughbred was were we had drinks and the Chantilly was a fav for my wife.
I did not stay at the hotel, but can speak to its beauty and hospitality for professional events. All the amenities are available, with several conference rooms of different sizes and many restaurants in the immediate area. I'd love to stay overnight on my next visit to the city.
For such a beautiful place I was really disappointed by the beds. Everything else was top notch though. Excellent location, wonderful atmosphere, I'm definitely in love.
We visited here on our honeymoon in a king balcony room and enjoyed our stay. The service is good, the room service is prompt, everything is very clean, and there is a very elegant atmosphere. The food is fantastic, we ordered quite a bit of room service and did not have anything we didn't like. The staff was friendly but didn't handle mistakes well, very disappointing especially since the mistake involved throwing away the wine bottle from our wedding night that we set aside to keep. But great experience in general.
What A Lovely Hotel great getaway for my husband and myself he enjoyed the pool and we had lovely time the staff is very friendly and accommodations beautiful
Beautiful hotel with historical charm. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Right in the heart of the downtown area makes the location amazing. Definitely will return.
Having only spent one night here, my experience isn't extensive, but generally positive: Our family loved the adjoining rooms which were luxuriously decorated without being stuffy. The bell staff was fast, and super nice. The gym is nice and bright. The area is great, and the actual site of the hotel is gracious with a courtyard entryway hidden from the urban setting which feels special.
But, the surrounding restaraunts were certainly more charming in appearance than The hotel's. The atmosphere feels a little like a LasVegas hotel once inside, meaning not necessarily as cozy as I anticipated. Feels a bit like you're in a mall since the shops are so connected, which I think I didn't actually like. I might give it another chance, perhaps without the children. All of our interactions with the staff made it pleasant and worth trying again.
Room ac sounded like a very loud disel truck running in the room. We had a very uncomfortable night sleeping. We are going to find a more comfortable motel in the morning. Except for this, the motel and staff were great.
European style with southern charm is how I would describe the Belmond Charleston Place. It was a wonderful experience for my wife and me.
I was attending a conference hosted by the hotel and my wife went along. The rooms are beautiful and nicely appointed. We had a small balcony that reminded us of a hotel in Paris. The room was beautiful with cool, calming colors of white, gray, and blue.
There were robes and slippers and a turn down every evening that included bottled water and information about the next day. If you put your shoes outside your door at night they would give you a complimentary shoe shine and return them by the morning.
Every staff member spoke and smiled. They were helpful and seemed to genuinely enjoy their work. They made us feel very comfortable.
It is located in the historic district of Charleston. You are a block from The Market and there are many restaurants and shops near by. We walked late at night a couple of times to get coffee and gelato. We felt very safe every time we did.
I will stay here again. This really is a great place to immerse yourself in Charleston life.
Wife and I stayed for two nights. Every staff member was friendly and professional. Our room was spacious and very well appointed. The facility was beautifully decorated, the location and amenities were our main reason for choosing the hotel. Close proximity to the Market, walking distance to Liberty port and the surrounding shops. Would definitely stay again and look forward to visiting Charleston again!
UPDATE: 12/2019 My mom, my poodle and I visited again. OMG, an even better experience than before. This is our number one favorite hotel. I truly can't say enough about it. I want to live there. Ha!!! Thank you for making our experience so special every time!!!

1/2019: My mom and I are leaving this hotel today. We've been here 4 nights. We stayed in the only corner suite with hardwood floors (suite 4D). I can't say enough about how amazing our experience here has been. I've traveled around the world, and I've stayed in a lot of 5 star hotels. Up until this trip to the Belmond, my favorite hotel was The Savoy in London. I'm sorry Savoy, the Belmond just grabbed the blue ribbon in my mind. Thank you to Nick (our daily room service server). Thank you to the gracious staff at the front desk (you were so nice to Peppermint Patty - my poodle). Thank you to the Spa staff (the Peach Tea signature candle you suggested smells divine). Thank you to housekeeping for honoring our request for privacy. Thank you to Bloom (the florist) for creating such a beautiful bouquet for our room. Thank you to EVERYONE at the Belmond. Your attention to detail and kindness will never ever ever be forgotten!!! :) xo
I'm giving the Belmond 5 stars because it genuinely deserves it. However, Tony who arranges taxis needs to be removed from the staff before the hotel loses its accreditation. Tony vehemently encouraged my husband and I to cancel our Halls reservation to go to T-Bonz, on top of seeming like he was over served or medicated. I was unsure if this was his standard demeanor or normal posture. He needs to be addressed as he cannot be the first encounter for Belmond. I have traveled to multiple Belmond properties and was slightly detached because of him.
My wife and I stayed here one night for a short getaway and we were very disappointed. The rooms were very nice but we had issues with the AC in our room and the shower did not work very well due to a leak in the shower head. We got to the room and it was at the standard 74 degrees. We like it cooler as we sleep so we set it to 68 as we left for dinner and drinks. When we got back 3 hours later it had only gone down to 73. We then set it to 60 to see if that would change anything. The room did not reach 70 degrees until the next morning around 8am. It was one of the worst sleeps we've had in any hotel. We let the front desk know about the issues and they didn't seem to care. Their response was "That's terrible. Thanks for letting us know" with no apology as they proceeded to take care of the people behind us. We had high expectations of this hotel and the staff and we were severely let down.
Upon entering, you will realize this place is beautiful. Every move feels elegant and graceful under the breathtaking two and a half ton chandelier. That being said, it didn't wow me otherwise. The amenities weren't anything to write home about, though they were nice to have. The onsite shops and restaurants brought a new flare of grandness to the hotel, but were overpriced and didn't make the visit any more special. The staff was helpful and made our stay easier. Overall, it was a good hotel, but I didn't feel that it went the extra mile.
I really wish i could give this place 5. I would, if it was based off looks. Its definitely beautiful, and has a lot of varied places to eat and drink. Location is also amazing. We were in the junior suite, which was also extremely nice. But that's where it stops. Here are the problems:
- self park is the biggest scam going. The staff are repugnant (i'm guessing because theyre fed up), and they constantly overcharge. The last day we were leaving, i got told that because i was a hotel guest i had to pay $1 more, despite not needing in and out priviledges. I got quite annoyed and mentioned that it was unfair as if i hadnt said i was at the hotel, i wouldnt have got discriminatory pricing for absolutely the same service. The lady was rude, gave me the extra dollar back, then continued to bad mouth me loudly to herself. This is in the hotel, have some manners. None of them ever smiled or said hello. It always felt like we were an inconvenience. - housekeeping is hit and miss. They all have varying standards and once they threw out stuff i hadnt left anywhere near the trash. A complimentary cake they gave us was left uncollected, despite me leaving a note, for 4 days. - breakfast is very expensive, and they also get your order wrong. - the concierge we talked to had no idea about getting foreign exchange in charleston, and didnt move a finger to try and find out for us. - on check out, no one asked how our stay was. We were in the junior suite and had made it clear it was to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. We had stayed there 6 days, so not a small bill.
If this hotel was 3*, i'd give it a 4. Sadly it charges a lot of money for very flakey and inconsistent service.
Belmond is an extremely warm and inviting place. The food is excellent and the staff is extremely friendly. I definitely enjoy going as often as I can.
We appeal to your management with a complaint against the manager Irina that she uses her working position to the detriment of employees, especially from Russia. Very rude attitude, mockery at her bad mood over workers. It does not allow anyone to work normally, many women from this department cried because of her. Please treat with understanding! We wish your hotel prosperity!
Staying at this hotel was one of the best things I have ever done. I stayed here with my wife for our anniversary, and it was the best decision we could have made. The hotel itself was beautiful, and being in a short walking distance to many shops and restaurants adds to its beauty and makes it so much more relaxing. The staff was friendly and helpful. I definitely highly recommend this for any vacation or even business travel.
My wife and I celebrated our 45 wedding anniversary . From the hospitality and friendship we received from the events manager and staff we feel the Belmond Charlestown Place must know long and lasting love as we. Thank you and our love to all xxx
Belmond Charleston Place is a gorgeous and elegant hotel at the heart of downtown Charleston. If you want to experience true southern (sophisticated) hospitality; Belmond Charleston Place is the hotel to be.
Came to stay at Belmond Charleston Place for a work conference and really appreciated our time here. I ve stayed at MANY hotels for work and Belmond Charleston Place is one of the top hotels I ve stayed at; it made the work conference even more enjoyable.
Special thanks to Julia at the front desk for getting my husband and me a king bed (instead of two double beds) our stay. She was friendly, professional and helpful!
A couple recommendations that can make the stay even more outstanding: - the beds. For such a luxury hotel, surprisingly the bed is not exactly the most comfortable. It was hard with no cushion...probably ideal for people that love hard beds but not for people who like medium or soft mattresses. It s not the type of bed that you jump onto cause it s not fluffy at all. - the pillows. Pillows are kind of wimpy. Very airy with not a lot of support. Maybe they had a pillow menu that I wasn t aware of... - calls. All the Staff at the hotel are nice and professional but for some reason the people that handled the calls before our stay (we called the hotel before our stay to double check a couple things) were not exactly the best at hospitality. They sounded short, cold and not exactly aware of what s going on at the hotel. Thankfully the actual hotel Staff were not that way but it did initiate a questionable first impression.
Anyways, regardless, all in all, Belmond Charleston Place is a wonderful place to stay! A must visit that worth the visit!
They were the sweetest to us! Upgraded us to the club house in the top floors for our honeymoon and we had free food and alcohol for the while trip. Such a treat. The staff was very kind and helpful. We'll be going back!
