Two days after India became a Sovereign Democratic...

Two days after India became a Sovereign Democratic Republic, the Supreme Court came into being. The inauguration took place in the Chamber of Princes in the Parliament building which also housed India's Parliament, consisting of the Council of States and the House of the People. It was here, in this Chamber of Princes, that the Federal Court of India had sat for 12 years between 1937 and 1950. This was to be the home of the Supreme Court for years that were to follow until the Supreme Court acquired its own present premises.

The inaugural proceedings were simple but impressive. They began at 9.45 a.m. when the Judges of the Federal Court - Chief Justice Harilal J.Kania and Justices Saiyid Fazl Ali, M. Patanjali Sastri, Mehr Chand Mahajan, Bijan Kumar Mukherjea and S.R.Das - took their seats. In attendance were the Chief Justices of the High Courts of Allahabad, Bombay, Madras, Orissa, Assam, Nagpur, Punjab, Saurashtra, Patiala and the East Punjab States Union, Mysore, Hyderabad, Madhya Bharat and Travancore-Cochin. Along with the Attorney General for India, M.C. Setalvad were present the Advocate Generals of Bombay, Madras, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, East Punjab, Orissa, Mysore, Hyderabad and Madhya Bharat. Present too, were Prime Minister, other Ministers, Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives of foreign States, a large number of Senior and other Advocates of the Court and other distinguished visitors.

Taking care to ensure that the Rules of the Supreme Court were published and the names of all the Advocates and agents of the Federal Court were brought on the rolls of the Supreme Court, the inaugural proceedings were over and put under part of the record of the Supreme Court.

After its inauguration on January 28, 1950, the Supreme Court commenced its sittings in a part of the Parliament House. The Court moved into the present building in 1958. The building is shaped to project the image of scales of justice. The Central Wing of the building is the Centre Beam of the Scales. In 1979, two New Wings - the East Wing and the West Wing - were added to the complex. In all there are 15 Court Rooms in the various wings of the building. The Chief Justice's Court is the largest of the Courts located in the Centre of the Central Wing.

The original Constitution of 1950 envisaged a Supreme Court with a Chief Justice and 7 puisne Judges - leaving it to Parliament to increase this number. In the early years, all the Judges of the Supreme Court sat together to hear the cases presented before them. As the work of the Court increased and arrears of cases began to cumulate, Parliament increased the number of Judges from 8 in 1950 to 11 in 1956, 14 in 1960, 18 in 1978 and 26 in 1986. As the number of the Judges has increased, they sit in smaller Benches of two and three - coming together in larger Benches of 5 and more only when required to do so or to settle a difference of opinion or controversy.

The Supreme Court of India comprises the Chief Justice and 30 other Judges appointed by the President of India. Supreme Court Judges retire upon attaining the age of 65 years. In order to be appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court, a person must be a citizen of India and must have been, for atleast five years, a Judge of a High Court or of two or more such Courts in succession, or an Advocate of a High Court or of two or more such Courts in succession for at least 10 years or he must be, in the opinion of the President, a distinguished jurist. Provisions exist for the appointment of a Judge of a High Court as an Ad-hoc Judge of the Supreme Court and for retired Judges of the Supreme Court or High Courts to sit and act as Judges of that Court.

The proceedings of the Supreme Court are conducted in English only. Supreme Court Rules, 1966 are framed under Article 145 of the Constitution to regulate the practice and procedure of the Supreme Court.

An authority whom the people look to after God. The judgments pronounced herefrom become a binding law.
These days people ask us why the Supreme Court have begun experimenting over the public patience, which literally shake string of public minds. Even though, some judgments heal a big section of society & other wound without their fault sometimes. People now have more fear of judgments rather than of law.
There should be CCTV cameras inside Courtrooms so that lawyers s accountability could be increased towards their clients?

To layoff is to temporarily or permanently terminate or get rid of the staff / employee. This is usually done by a company / firm on account of a business slowdown as a result of which there is insufficient work to be allotted to an employee who is registered with the establishment and who has not yet been retrenched.

It is Suspension or termination of employment (with or without notice) by an employer or management. A company layoff involves the cessation of employee benefits such as salary or wages. The laid-off employees are paid laid-off compensation. All of the laid-off employees should be taken back in their usual posts, as soon as the layoff lifted out. It may be due to, one of the given reasons:

Shortage of raw materialsEconomic recessionBreakdown of machineryAccumulation of stocksDefinition of Retrenchment

Retrenchment is to reduce the amount of corporate expenses. When a company/firm implements retrenchment, it cuts off or minimises all the unnecessary expenditures, usually by cutting back on the diversity of products or services it offers and often reducing the size of its company by closing down some of its offices that don t necessarily mean a reduction in a company s workforce.

It simply means termination of employee s services, because of replacement of the worker by machines or closure of the unit due to the lack of product s demand, produced by the unit. In retrenchment

sir

sir
as i feel that supereme court is very expensive for litigents and the case are not on fast hearing basis. My experience in my case no 5904 -5905 in Up state vs laxmi chand & co civil appeal court some time not hear the land lord voice and favours up state govt . while since last 45 years no single paisa of rent is increased by up govt moreover house tax has increased several times and the campus repair is also costing several times. It is not covered under rent control act. its rent from very first day is Rs.3190/- . The state govt has admitted the fact the premises is not covered under rent control act. Hence My self has loose faith over the judiciaries in India, where delay in justice is denial of justice is applicable.

Supreme Court of India

Supreme Court of India
India's Supreme Court i.e. Supreme Court is the top court of the country. This is the constitutional body set by the fifth part of the Constitution of India of the Constitution. It was established on January 26, 1950.

As stated by the Indian Constitution, the work of the Supreme Court is to act as a protector of the Constitution, it is the highest court for the court and appeal set up by the authority of the federal government.

Article 124 and 147 of the Indian Constitution describe the legal rights and constitution of the Supreme Court of India. In case of legal relief, the Supreme Court of India is the highest court and the final choice for appeal, which hears the appeal against the decisions of the High Court of the States and Union Territories.

Although the Supreme Court of India resolves the written appeal of serious human rights violation cases or a case that needs quick disposal. The Supreme Court of India held its inaugural session on January 28, 1950. Since then, the top court has given 24,000 verdicts.

In India's top court, there are 30 judges named by the Chief Justice of India and the President, yet the President nominates the judges only on the advice of the apex court. This appointment is usually done on the basis of seniority and not because of political tilt. The retirement age of a Supreme Court judge is 65 years.

Supre court's judgement in the CBSE examination pa...

Supre court's judgement in the CBSE examination paper leak case was not at all fair. Why no re-exam for 10th when the paper was leaked a week before the exam. It was said that the paper was only leaked in delhi and haryana and hence the re-exam need not be conducted since it was not leaked to other parts of India. Does Mr Swarup not know about whatsapp? And in a week, the paper can even reach Antarctica, what about India? It should be same for 12 th economics examination. This is unfair for them. Their future depends on the boards. A re-exam means that they will have to study for their re-exam as well as the their entrances. SC's ruling is not at all justified. Justice SA bobde should have given a thought to the student's future. #Justice not served right
