Loved it! We're visiting Atlanta for a conference/vacation. I said that if there was only one thing I could do while I was in Atlanta, it would be to visit this place. I love Jim Henson and I actually thought this was a "Jim Henson" museum. It was much more and I learned so much about puppetry and we even attended a play. I highly recomlend this place to anyone visiting ATL.

I absolutely loved it here. I took my class on a field trip. We made puppets and saw the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer puppet show. It was a little long for my students with sensory issues but it was a really nice show overall. I look forward to going back and participating in some of the other activities they have to offer as well.
12.50 for a walkthrough of 3 rooms of puppets. Some very interesting things to see. The Jim Henson part was the highlight, but I would have liked to see more. Many favorites were left out and although the building is big the whole thing can be seen in 20 min or so.
We drive down from Charlotte just to visit! The Jim Henson exhibit is wonderful, and the Sesame Street set is always fun to play on. My son enjoys seeing Big Bird and I always enjoy taking a trip down memory lane looking at the Fraggles and Labyrinth displays.
I wasn't sure what to expect at this place, but it was definitely worth visiting. About half of the exhibits are puppets from history, the rest is a special Jim Henson exhibit with many of the original Muppets from TV and movies. They have activities planned constantly that would be worth checking out if you live in Atlanta.
Amazing gem of a museum. Both the wings were so fun to stroll through and learn from. I'm almost 40 and felt like such a kid! The Jim Henson section was so beautifully put together, thoughtful, informative and endearing. I never in my life thought I'd get to stand next to a Skesi or Augrah or Miss Piggy or countless other fantastic pieces. I can't wait to go back next year and see what's new. Oh, and the staff was lovely! Everyone we spoke with were kind and helpful and you could really tell they loved what they did there. The Center for Puppetry Arts is truly a rare gem.
The staff is wonderful and welcoming. The Labyrinth exhibit was exciting and full of nostalgia. The Jim Henson exhibit tugged at my heart strings for sure.
Enjoy one of the unique museums in the world devoted to puppets. The exhibits display puppets from all around the world. There are also special events...and exhibits. The museum is relatively small but worth visiting. I felt like in a time machine.
The new museum is fabulous! Bravo to the Center for the new Jim Henson wing! Big bird, Grover (my personal fave,) figures from the Dark Crystal, and Corpse Bride, and more, make this museum a must see for all "nerds" like me. Maps needs to do a new drive by. This picture does not do it justice.
Cool and unique little museum. Not too expensive, but probably wouldn't go more than once per year. The displays are full of information and the Jim Henson m/puppets are the best. Don't expect to spend more than about an hour here though unless you plan on seeing a puppet show.
Here is the main reason I took one star off. This museum [was] part of a program that gives free admission to Active Duty service members between Memorial Day and Labor Day. For some unknown reason the museum has backed out of the program and hasn't informed anyone. I'm not a douche canoe who's gonna raise a fuss in the museum, and honestly $12,50 for a ticket isn't going to break the bank for me and my two kids, but still kinda messed up that they changed their participation in the program without telling anyone.
That being said, still go! It's worth the visit. I didn't take any pictures that you can't find anywhere else in Google Reviews, I'm just posting these for the points
Fun place to take kids under 8 years old. The shoes are full of energy and thoughtful. Making puppets are a fun activity to do with younger kids. Kids over 10 may think a lot of it is cheesy, but under its a great place to go.
My daughter and I love the puppets. So it was hands down no question to become a member. We went today 7/20/2016 to see Sleeping Beauty. It was awesome, as my daughter would say. We usually get there early to get great seats but we just did get there 10 before curtains opened today. But I did take a star away today because I didn't not appreciate spending my hard earn money to be treated a certain way. Because I'm a young looking woman of color, that I can't afford or wouldn't be interested in becoming a member because of the color of my skin. I was stopped just before member seating and asked where did i want to sit after that point. I was puzzled. Thinking to myself I bring my baby girl every other week and paid good money for the perks, so why would I want to seat in back? The usher saw the look on my face and became puzzled as well and stated to me, well that's the best he could do. WTH! I became more confused. Then he glaced down at my tickets.... oh wow okay you are a member, you can sit in the member section. He said. Are you kidding how dare you. I'm a hard working, young looking (because of good genes, no alcohol or drugs ) single mother, but I am off age. I work hard to be able provide my children with the greater things in life that they appreciate and love.
When you are in Atlanta you must take the time to go here. If you re Gen X, every Henson muppet you e wanted to see in person is here! They have a killer Dark Crystal and Labyrinth show going on. This show will blow your mind and bring a tear to your eye!
Very very easy to get there on marta. Only a 10 minute walk from arts center train station. The people there were very very nice. Very helpful and polite. The puppet show was awesome my 5 year old daughter loved it. Afterwards she got to make her own puppet which was really cool and was included in our ticket price. They have a museum which is very scary and not for kids at all. My daughter almost cried, that and the fact that they don't have a place that sells food inside is the reason it didn't get all the stars. Also the restrooms were very clean and kid friendly
I loved visiting the Center for Puppetry Arts! I visited with a group of 5 friends, all in our late 20s. We visited during the Labrenth exibit. It was so so good! Learned a lot, had a lot of fun! Planning on bringing my parents next time they are in Atlanta. Bring your camera!
This museum was absolutely fantastic. We went during the week when it was somewhat empty and just fell in love with it. If you love Jim Henson and puppets, go! Our 2 year daughter loves it as well.
Wonderful!! Saw a show, toured the exhibits and played around in the gift shop. Dark Crystal exhibit that was touring was great. I make a point to go every year when I m in town.
Great set designs! Wonderful performances! Seeing the show, and then getting behind the scenes look into how the show comes to life is especially great for kids and adults alike.
We came here for the Jim Henson Collection and it was amazing! They have a broad variety of Henson's creations from just about every era of his career. When you see a puppet like Rowlf or Big Bird that you grew up loving, the emotions come rushing back. Needless to say, this was our favorite part of the museum. Other section included puppetry from around the world and a gallery for rotating special exhibits. Even as someone who has only a passing interest in puppetry, these exhibits had plenty to offer.
Obviously, some of the exhibits were down due to covid but the whole Jim Henson area was amazing for the history alone and the skill/time these people put into their craft. Wasn't as huge a fan of the global area but still an interesting spot to see the difference between global puppetry spots. Dark Crystal area was probably my highlight as I really enjoy that universe.
What an amazing museum! We went to a performance of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer and it was like the original tv version came to life. I like how the puppeteers showed and explained each puppet after the show. The Jim Henson and Dark Crystal exhibits were my childhood come to life and it's incredible moving to see your favorite characters up close.
I first attended the center as a child and have been going back ever since. For parents grandparents uncles aunts moms and dads this place is a gold mine. A fabulous educational opportunity for children that is entertaining as well with an amazing museum for anyone who likes the Muppets, and let's be serious who doesn't like the Muppets.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art asks for a suggested donation of 25.00 per adult to visit. The High Museum of Art is 19.50. The Atlanta History Center plus 3 other properties is 21.50. The prices for children are all less.
The Center for Puppetry Arts is 25.00 regardless of age. This means that a family of 4 will have to pay 100.00 for an hour long puppet show--and let's face it, it's only for the kids anyway. This seems ridiculous, especially since it receives millions in donations and funding each year, some of it from the government.
Don't get me wrong, it is a great and worthy project, but if it becomes financially burdensome for families to attend then how good is it? Not to mention they spend 750,000 a year for administrative expenses at a place that uses volunteers for many of the services. If you can't run a puppet show and a four room museum of donated items for 4 million a year, then maybe there is a problem.
Update: The price has raised to 29.00. I guess they weren't quite cutting it at 25.00.
A trip down memory lane. Great exhibits. Maybe not so great for young kids. To fully enjoy it, you need to take your time and read the info on the displays.
