I think those who hate the school have to experience the absolute worst to begin to comprehend what a gem CCNY is to the CUNY system. I came from THE WORST CUNY imaginable: every last building was dirty, dingy, dark, and the only well lit room that was used for gathering was in actuality a hallway. No sense of community, and while student organizations and other clubs tried to make the best out of it, the environment always made it an extremely damp reminder that life would really get no worse than college. I couldn't stand studying there and would walk to the East River promenade instead, no matter how cold it was. (Did I give it away?)
Imagine my surprise seeing a CUNY with lawns, campus housing, AND AN ACTUAL QUAD! Just sit outside the administration building in the spring and you would realize that you can't even remember the hustle and bustle of NYC around it. The people are so diverse and kind, lively, creative, and all usually look like they are genuinely happy to be there; so much so that you can pick out who does not want to be there. So many places to grab a coffee and just study or chat; so many clubs, groups, and majors that you can't EVER say that there is no where to fit in or that you don't know anybody.
And the professors! People will always be people, so I know that you will always find a handful of grumpies (i.e: administration reps) , but that's life. Most of my professors would meet during office hours, grab coffee once in a while, stay in constant contact... WAYYYY more than I can say to 99% of the professors at my old CUNY who went ghost until the next class. And who knew that security didn't have to act like detectives and look like trolls??
All in all, wherever people are, you will have conflict. That's the facts of life. But to find the majority who don't act like that being in one place? GEM AMONG CUNYS
