I love this school, they are friendly and they treat vets very well.
The Essex campus is a complete and total joke. If you have a question or need help you get shuffled around to every office on campus only to be told they can't help you. The academic advising secretaries are rude and condescending, but that's all of the office workers.
Anyone can be a teacher here if they have a masters, so be careful for that.
I wouldn't recommend the Essex campus to anyone who is taking their education seriously.
I have had problems with ccbc in the past but there always seems to be someone at Catonsville to talk to about it , that being said not every time something is done about the issue but they will at least try to help in someway. The teachers More
Once you get into a class things are fine... usually. However, this "college" has the worst website architecture I've ever encountered. If you find what you are looking for, it's luck pure and simple. If you call for assistance from course managers, etc., it's a crap shoot.
Seriously, if you can get what you need elsewhere, check there first.
Everything about this school screams OLD. It is 2015 right??? This school only accepts MAILED in request for transcripts! Good Lord! They need to step up into the age of technology and at least accept them via fax...and stop charging for them as well! AACC transcripts are FREE, unofficial and official!
It seems this school has far outgrown its capacity and customer service has left the campus. At the registrar's, staff gets tired and rude during at peak times, and wait on the phone can be well over 45min. I called and was on the phone for over 30min and when someone picked up, I got "disconnected", which was absolutely intentional, because it happened to me 3X in one day. I visit offices and can't even find anyone to ask a question. Email is the only way you might get someone to respond and even then don't count on it! Shame.
At CCBC the staff is very nice and knowledgeable!! I would recommend them to anyone!
Education is decent as well as the professors I've had, but the staff is very ill mannered and miserable. It was rare that I called the campus and didn't receive an attitude.
Not being a student I cannot rate the quality of education there. My purpose was to visit the library. It was spacious and well laid out with many open spaces. It had plenty of areas for both individual and group study. There was lots of parking out front as well. I have been to many college libraries in my time and this was one of the better ones.
The whole CCBC system is a total racket. Waste of your time. May as well go to one of those for profit institutes, at least you know ahead of time they are going to try to screw every dollar out of you.
Save your money and take your course at literally any other place.
I really enjoyed attending this location temporarily for a semester. It is a beautiful campus that has a lot to offer, but this college. Needs to update. Meeting with financial advisors is impersonal and your personal business is exposed. As I helped a friend and classmate sort things out it was very disappointing to not be able to talk personally and have everyone know your business.
Beautiful college...safe environment.friendly staff
I went through a rough patch of depression and long story short, had motivation issues, failed classes and was suspended. Completely understandable, of course. However, after my suspension I returned and tried taking online classes, and the sites for them are absolute messes.
There are like 5 different ways to see your assignments and only two of them show actual assignments, sometimes there are things you can't see without going through some really weird steps, I've been using computers since I was in diapers and couldn't begin to navigate the mess that was Blackboard. It was so bad, I lost two weeks of work because I COULD NOT FIND THE ACTUAL ASSIGNMENTS SECTION and had to withdraw. I managed to pass the other class just barely with an 80, passing grade.
I only took two classes, since I wanted to take it slow and wanted to make sure I didn't fail. Yet, despite the fact that I passed, they put me on suspension for a SECOND TIME.
If you're worried you'll have motivation troubles or if you struggle academically, don't bother coming. They only care about keeping the averages up.
The teachers are aggressive and they don't help you find a job after you graduate so
Horrible!!!! I am done with this school!!!! They enrolled me into a a few classes that I never took, my GPA dropped because I never went (because why would I take the class I didn't sign up for). I am currently looking to do a fresh start at another community college if possible. CCBC cares more about making money than giving people a good education. I have a group of friends that go here, every time we turn around we all have a problem with CCBC.
Had left Anne Arundel Community college to attend here and apply to the nursing program. This school, buildings, and the overall population of people were GREAT. Took Moral Phylosphy (Honor's Ethics) with Dr. Bill Rice, who was FANTASTIC! EXCELLENT class, great teaching style. Most schools tend to lean left, however here it feels extremely neutral. However, Professor Shawn Sager's, my speech professor was the opposite of Dr. Rice. The day she noticed I wore a TeamTrump shirt, her whole attitude changed. She did not make reasonable accomodations for me,even though I went to disability services. She asked me for proof my grandmother was dying, YES..she actually asked for a doctor or nurse to write an explanation of what was wrong with her, how long she has been in the hospital and contact information for the. Very inappropriate and a HIPPA violation. She had numerous complaints and taught the class as if we were children and had no idea what an outline is, and always told us what to do our speech on, which was usually about some foundation. Besides her, loved this school. Highly recommend and really enjoyed it.
They are doing a good job of keeping things safe during Covid-19
The Catonsville Campus is opening in a healthy manner. You will be tested before getting out of your car or entering a building.
Extremely unprofessional and disorganized school. This semester CCBC screwed over hundreds of students from being eligible for scholarships due to registering everyone late. When students attempted to resolve the issue, staff began blaming the problem on each other rather than resolving the issue. I know many students who may not be able to continue in their program due to loss of scholarships they would've otherwise been eligible for. CCBC needs to get it together. We, as students, are constantly given strict deadlines, and if we are late - we fail... The staff is constantly late and disorganized in completing necessary tasks and the students are the ones who suffer for it every single time.
"Study, study and study again."
- Recommendation from V.I.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would - most folks at this school are racist pay attention to the bad reviews I did not and had to find out on my own - this place is money hungry - do not care about your education only money - staff are unorganized- the people in office are very judgmental - and sit behind the desk looking at instagram all day very sad I transferred immediately I suggest you do the same as well
Great learning environment, professors are very supportive
Nice campus
Activities all year for all ages
Don't stop learning
Nice school as far as them building some new buildings but they need more parking and most of their teachers don't care and do what they want. I had a teacher that canceled class all the time. There is always some type of crime happening.
Practicing great social distancing. Very welcoming and professional greeting upon entering from security personnel.
Ms. Sagers, my MATH 082 teacher, Mrs. Kline, Mrs. Glassman, Mr. Rice, and Ms. Shea for online were the only teachers who cares about their students' success and don't stay off topic. It was hard getting information I needed from one staff member without going back-and-forth to the same people. I met some nice colleagues who are older than me and didn't flake on me, like my peers did. Some staff members in this college were nice and had great customer service. Others didn't, especially this new short girl, who always have her hair in different hairstyles, every Friday, since March 1st, 2019 as a cashier. I thought she was pretty, but then she gave me the impression that she was mean and careless. Jenna, from financial aid, doesn't really complete her job & I had to repeat a process again bc of her. The other financial aid members were nice. The women at the Bursar's Office don't seem like they loved their jobs. The black women who works at the library are rude, biased and mean. I overheard them mocking me while I was printing something out with a quarter one of them gave when I specifically asked for a dime, since the printers don't give change back. They also had an attitude problem. Other library workers were nice. My peers would stare at me enjoying eating lunch alone and compliment my outfit while walking pass me and I was minding my business, or I was a reminder for themselves that they quote out loud for me to hear (e.g. I wore a jacket, a woman said she forgot to wore her jacket that day). So, this school gets 2-stars, instead of 1.
I like the diversity here. I have only taken continuing education classes here so far and enjoyed it as well as my teacher besides my male old voice teacher who tried to kiss me. Other than that i tried not basing every thing on him and went back for childcare and had a great teacher. So now im going this fall for my associates in music and then transfer to umbc and so far some of the staff on Catonsville campus are rude and/or racist but i plan to ignore that because as African American student this is one of the only diverse community colleges in Baltimore thats in my area. I look forward to my future not the school.
classes I give a five star teachers could use some work but when it comes to tuition requirements it sucks. I wasn't learning nothing in one class so I decided to drop the class because I didn't want to fail at the end of the semester. that resulted me in losing my financial and owing 2k dollars to the school
Awful experience, called to ask about information, the lady who answered the phone was extremely impatient and rude.
Some teachers and staff are really good and professional, but some just do not know what they are doing on their work place. Especially administration... Do not understand differences between status in US and type of visa which allows to study. Do not know clear answers on simple questions such as documents for in-county tuitions. They prefer simply send you an extra bill. I wish the staff will trained better.
Great facility but really bad parking. Professors are hit or miss, but odds are you'll get either a really amazing professor or the worst you've ever had.
Overpriced transcripts. Rude staff snatched transcript form out of my hand. I will not be returning here for any reason.
The financial aid department at Essex community college is awful. Jamia is especially rude. There is no offer of counseling. She only refers you to the website for infirmation. In order to speak with someone they will only call you with 24 to 48 hours if the post it makes it to a supervisor. No face to face counseling offere. Baltimore city community college spent time to go over financial aid options and provided. I would suggest going there if you need federal funding for college.
The staff and students has been nothing but awesome.
The people at CCBC are very helpful want it comes to looking for right building are anything else. CCBC is the best place to go to school.
If I could rate this school a 0 I would! The financial aid office is so UNORGANIZED and UNPROFESSIONAL. Definitely would not recommend anyone going to this school. They just want their money, they do not care for your needs.
I would've given this review a 4 or a 5 star rating, but the president of the school has since terminated the school's counseling program; abandoning all of the students who don't have the financial resources to seek help because of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts. What's worse, is that the president tried to do it as quietly as possible with the intention of preventing anyone from interfering with the decision. In short, this school does not care about the well being of its students or its faculty.
i can find everything i need at my fingertips on campus.
This college is very diverse. Met a lot of people of all backgrounds. Not saying this school is awesome and the best. However, I'm not saying it is awful. It's a comforting college to attend when you are fresh out of high school and confuse as to what path is worth taking. I came from a community college in Arnold, MD called AACC. I had the worst experience there and dropped out for a year. I came to CCBC as a last option. They have parties for the students. Games, clubs, food, trips and so much more. I had my run in with horrible students, teachers, and trip leaders. Nevertheless, this isn't a college to criticize or avoid. You will fit in or feel mellow enough to do your time and transfer later on. One lesson I have learned in my few years of attending is to take nothing personal, don't sweat the small stuff like teachers being too demanding, and never give up even when the road (grade) seems to be going downhill. I literally thought I would flunk out of college because I wasn't committed to the work. Here I am 3 years later (I didn't go to school in the summer and winter like rich kids do) with a 3.0 GPA and acceptance into Towson University, Frostburg University, Chadron State College, and Coppin State University. Those are the sole universities I applied to but thanks to CCBC and hard work, I have those options and am eternally grateful.
Great school - full of opportunities, including a business club and beautiful campus. Visit now!
Was just there for a seminar with the WMDA and the Seminar was great and the facility was awesome..
Now I don t typically take the time to complain about waiting but the new staff they have at this location are terrible. I came in a bit early for my exam which I do every semester. I know the staff likes to take a tremendous amount of time seating you so I come in with a significant time to spare. Usually with afternoon exams there s a line waiting to sign in. Surprisingly enough it isn t busy today. I walk in and advise the lady working the desk that my exam isn t until 11 but I m here early. She explains to me that she cannot seat me till 11. I ve been coming here for years and I ve never had an issue with testing seating. This exam will probably take me at most 5-10 mins since I m overly prepared. The kicker is there is NO ONE sitting in the inside waiting room, there is NO ONE outside the waiting room, and in fact about 5 students have left while I ve been waiting to be seated. I plan to make a formal complaint with the pictures of taking of literally no one being here while I patiently wait to take a 10 minute exam. The previous proctors had no trouble seating early students and were extremely personable and accommodating. You can just tell the new staff clearly dislike their position here. I m watching people come and go and she still hasn t made the effort to even check in with me. If you guys have the ability to go to the Owings Mills testing center is highly recommend going there. The staff in Owings Mills is quick, efficient and friendly.
If you are taking your education seriously or are interested in an online program, AVOID this school. Their online program needs some major work, it constantly glitches and it is not a requirement for the teachers to know how to use the program correctly. For some, 1) Uploaded random assignments that were due in a few hours without prior warning, which is extremely inappropriate for an online program. This leaves every student who was working unable to complete the assignment and fail. 2) Did not respond to my questions and concerns for an extended amount of time, sometimes weeks. 3) Did not take responsibility for their mistakes which forced their students to fail when they did not deserve to.
Secondly, the standards for its faculty are very poor too. Twice now, I scheduled a mid-term or a final, and the staff actually scheduled me for AFTER HOURS. So when I arrived, twice, the schools location was closed. This caused me to fail my tests temporarily, take off work another day, and waste my time having to explain and prove that I was scheduled for CLOSED hours, which wasn't easy.
The only reason there is 1 star is due to the staff at the Hunt Valley Extension Center. They were always efficient, professional and really nice.
totally racist jews come in to work and sexually assault all of the smelly black people and communists
OK This is college is alright I guess. There are nice environments
I'm so DONE with this college. So many of their faculty & administration are EXTREMELY RACIST! Also, some of the fellow students have SEVERE attitude problems.
Sent a complaint email to the director of disability support services and I ended up getting berated. I wasn't even disrespectful towards him, I just wanted to address their lack of tutoring services.
Also, as a student with a math learning disability, I faced discrimination. Heard one of the professors constantly rambling off about how American students are behind.
As we are from the UK, my wife and I had never visited the college prior to our son starting at the college, so we couldn't be entirely sure about it.
However, from day one he spoke very highly of the staff and when we did get to visit recently, we saw first hand what good genuine people they all are. In particular Mindy, coach Mike, Megan , coach Christian and his CAD teacher, -Adam held in high esteem.
We are extremely grateful for the time and attention bestowed upon him.
A good college with some very good people!
Not the best community college Maryland has to offer. Very diverse campus, but a lot of the students seemed to be to themselves and not very friendly. The parking sucks. Also, went on a volunteer trip to the Convention Center in the city a couple of years ago and I was one of the few students left behind that had to figure out how to get home. Luckily I took the CCBC Essex bus to their campus and took the shuttle bus back to the Catonsville campus (that should have been a red flag right there). Nobody seemed to care that students somehow got left because the bus left early and nobody did a proper head count. The academic advisers aren't very helpful. When I go to financial aid or registration with what I believe to be simple questions, I usually have to wait for an answer or find some sort of supervisor to clarify things because I get multiple answers to one question or nobody seems to know the answer. I recently graduated this past December 2017 but it took so long for them to put grades in, I had to wait until early January before I could get my final transcripts sent off despite my grades being put in by my professors 12/15/17. As a result, I have to sit this spring semester out because the classes I need to take at the school I wanted to transfer to are filled and wait-listed, which puts a damper on my education. Also, I have yet to receive my associates degree in the mail (today is 1/15/18). I called twice to try to figure out why I haven't received my degree yet. Each time I called, I was asked "Are you sure you graduated"? VERY frustrating experience but I'm glad I stuck it out to graduate.
*EDIT* Just found out that my academic adviser really didn't know what she was doing. I was told that my courses, including the math course most importantly, would transfer to my next college. That was not the case at all!
The Staff at CCBC are wonderful, very friendly, supportive and always kind. Thank you for all of your assistance!
Ccbc is a great place. Many buildings need updates but the staff cares and if students would follow up on bad professors they can be replaced.
