Cathedral of St John the Baptist in historic downtown Savannah, was first dedicated in 1876, rebuilt after fire in 1898, and renovated multiple times, last 1998-2000.
It is very beautiful from outside and inside, with stained glass windows, and wall paintings and statues. The Altar is also very beautiful and tasty decorated.
It is open to all. Tourists can visit for free. $3 is suggested but not required. Do not miss it if in Savannah.

This is the most beautiful church I have ever visited. The detail is more amazing than any picture could show. You have to visit here when you go to Savannah. I couldn t help but praise the Lord as I walked in and thank Him for allowing me to see and step foot in this beautiful church.

Breathtaking cathedral, worth parking a few blocks away and walking to attend mass. The Baptismal fountain when you enter is stunning. We were blessed to visit around Christmas and the church was beautifully decorated. Be sure to visit the cemetary a few blocks away, there are some beautiful figures and a memorial to the unborn.

There is something about a great ancient structure that transcends history, that transcends religion. This cathedral is among the oldest buildings in the already ancient city that is Savannah, and regardless of your personal religious or spiritual affiliation it is abundantly clear that the beauty of this building is something that not only can but should be appreciated by as many people as possible. Admittance to the interior of the church is technically free, although donations are encouraged. I would encourage anyone with the opportunity to bear witness to the pure beauty and magnificence of this centuries-old building, regardless of whether or not you share the specific religion or even regardless of whether or not you have the ability and desire to donate the recommended amounts. In short, this is one of the most magical buildings in one of the most magical places in the country.

What a majestic sight to behold. We came around the corner, after walking a few blocks from River Street, and did not expect to be as wowed as we were. Even my two little girls were in awe of the church. Unfortunately, there was a service going on, so we didn't get to go inside. Maybe next time.

An imposing edifice of concrete and stone, the wonders of this sacred place of time-honored worship are many. Paramount among them are a series of exquisitely made stain-glass windows and a series of paintings around the top of the inside of the church that are both aesthetically pleasing and divinely inspiring. A must-see for all the above reasons and more!
