Great views, sitting on the hill with a perfect view. Great spot to just sit
Great views, sitting on the hill with a perfect view. Great spot to just sit
My fiance and I went here for a date night. The view is unbeatable (every table outside has water views) and the food was great. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating. Overall this place is great, romantic place to bring a date or family.
We were here for a dinner party. Great location with beautiful views overlooking the ocean, with excellent service to match. The food is incredible. I personally had the tenderloin, which was very tender and flavorful, just melts in your mouth. The scallops for the appetizers were also very delicious. Overall a great experience.
I called this hotel to book a trip for the weekend with my family. The woman on the phone went through all the rates with me and we decided on a beach house room! She said her computer froze and that she d have to call me back but the reservation went through. When I called back the rates had changed to more than double! I asked to speak with a supervisor who couldn t care less what I was quoted and offered me basically 10% off the nightly rate which was still more than double the original quote. The property looks amazing and beautiful and I would have loved to see it but their staff is unprofessional, inconsiderate and not the most intelligent. Very disappointed.
Over the top staff, location and rooms. Couldn't have been better!
Stayed for one night in Beach Cottage #25 and had dinner in the restaurant in the actual inn. My wife and I both agreed it was one of the best experiences we ever had. We arrived just before "high tea" was being served. Never attended one before and we were very impressed. The setting was wonderful along with the wide variety of teas and delightful snacks. That evening we had one of the best dining experiences ever. From beginning to end everything was fabulous. The food was perfect and supported by outstanding service. It was a beautiful spring evening and the water view from the dining room was beautiful and peaceful. The beach cottage right on the beach was magical. The decor perfect coastal casual. The next morning included a very hearty and delicious breakfast in the dining room. A great escape.
Excellent Dinner! Superb Sunset! Not inexpensive, but worth every penny. The Lobster dish was amazing...everything we had was excellent as well as the cocktails.
Amazing food, stunning view, and creative cocktails.
Had drinks, took photos, staff was very considerate and helpful
The manager at the hostess stand was rude and dismissive. I will not be coming back again.
Beautiful area, great staff, and even better food! Along with valet parking and being in the heart of Newport this was a great location to eat and enjoy the day at!
Best part is the location. The staff is dressed in immaculate grab which I liked. It's crowded so if you come for lunch expect a 30 minute wait to get a terrace table. We sat at the open terrace bar to eat and that was pretty nice. The drinks were strong so that was a good point. My surf and turf burger was a B- as it arrived warm, not hot. While you're there make sure you drive the 10 mile drive as they call it. I've been in Newport 4 times and there are always new things to see.
Very much a special occasion restaurant. Amazing food and impeccable service.
This is a wonderful treat if you get the opportunity. The rooms were luxuriously cozy and comfortable. The service was quiet and extremely professional while remaining friendly. Dinner was outstanding and the atmosphere is unparalleled. Add this to your list of Newport must see and do.
Beautiful views, mediocre food, great staff and far too busy on summer weekends.
This situation needs to be handled in a more customer-friendly way.
Very nice hotel, excellent restaurant. Everyone here was genuinely friendly and made my wife and I feel welcome. Would give more stars if I could.
I would do way more than 5 stars if I could. Came here for a wedding and wished we could move in. Flawless service, rooms, food, drinks, atmosphere. Loud shout-out to Iulia, front desk guest service clerk, she made our stay here memorable. We will come again
Came for a graduation celebration, stunning views in the patio and great time overall
Beautiful view, delicious food, and quality service from the minute we rolled up. Will definitely be back!
The views are incredible!!!! The service and food were great!!!!
I expected greatness and I got elitism. It was recommended for lunch. I arrived early. Rather than welcoming, I found the hostess trite and standoffish. Shocked. She recommended a coffee shop in town instead. Stunned. The GPS couldn't find this address and kept rerouting. Location location, location. Was told you could enjoy drinks overseeing sailboats but couldn't verify that. All in all I'd not return. Requested information on weddings but was given just a card. Stunned. Lacking customer service. Lot was empty when I arrived.
Really great view. Really bad food. Our oysters look like they had been regurgitated by a sea bass and my medium rare burger was brown low quality meat. Consider coming for a beer.
Just went to for a drive to take a look and it has a beautiful view and location!
Beautiful location, amazing rooms, impeccable service, delicious food! Make sure to arrive for tea time if you are staying over and to leave plenty of time for breakfast!
Castle on the Hill is the best place for people who love beautiful views of mountains and bodies of water! We did not stay at the inn, as this is mainly about the restaurant itself. But by the looks of the rooms and cottages, brings me a feeling of cozy ness and family. We ordered oysters and lobster! There are limited options, running from lobster to mussels. A seafood fiesta. Great for family and friends. You should go one day. The only iffy part is that there is a bit of slow service, but in the meantime you can enjoy the views of Newport! Either way, I recommend this place!
I went for a tour of the place as a possible venue for my wedding. It is a beautiful place and everyone is helpful and informative!
Castle Hill in is one of the most magical places to stay in RI. The rooms are immaculate, beautiful, and relaxing. Breakfast is always a special treat, and Dinner extraordinary. The views will transport you to a place of peace and tranquility. This property is for any type of getaway. From the moment you arrive the staff goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and special!!!
Great ambience, great service, great company, great view!
Attended a beautiful wedding here. Truly wonderful food and service.
Very nice have a beer on their lawn watching sailboats float by
Incredible. I could end the review there.
We stayed in a beach cottage for three days and enjoyed breakfast, afternoon tea, several dinners and the spa here. Nothing was disappointing. The cottages are wonderfully appointed, immaculate, and set right on the beach and away from the main house. It was a great way to get some quiet time without the crowds that congregated on the lawn when the weather was nice.
The food was excellent all around. Tea is served with a nice selection of nibbles, dinners at The Lawn and the mansion bar were very nice. The highlight, of course, was the formal dining room. Pretty standard prix fixe menu style ranging from 3 to 6 courses and priced accordingly. The wine pairings are a must and were really the stars of the show (well, second to the bluefin toro crudo).
All the staff were attentive and helpful. We were able to get a wonderful recommendation for a sailing charter from the front desk, which we never would have found otherwise.
Literally, my only complaint is the shower rings make a horrendous metal-on-metal screeching sound when you open and close the curtain.
A word of warning though: it is a cut above. This was a surprisingly high end New England style experience which was even a bit out of our comfort zone. Just be prepared to have your face on at breakfast (for the ladies) and a collared shirt for the formal dining (gentleman).
Oh, one more lovely note: the beach-combing on the far end of the beach (past the cottages where it gets rocky) is spectacular.
Great atmosphere, amazing food, amazing service. Have been there 5 times and have never been disappointed! Overall amazing experience!
A wonderful place, bungalow rooms on the beachfront with exquisite service. Extensive green areas Classic decoration and very well preserved. Views of the bay, the port and the open sea.
Castle Hill Inn is a must have every summer. Love the outside dining with the gorgeous panoramic views of Newport harbor.
Beautiful grounds to stroll along the harbor.
I hope they fixed the gas leak in the wedding pavilion!
Not sure about food yet. But the place is unbelievable.
I attended a wedding, the service and ceremony we're great and the view was stunning. The food was average at best though.
Beautiful location (away from downtown). Service was top-notch. Room was great.
Excellent menu, food quality, service, value, and ambience at restaurant week lunch.
Castle Hill is a secret treasure in Newport. The grounds are beautiful and offer an incredible view of the bay.
Great view. Wonderful food and service. Staff is great. Love going there.
Went to watch the sunset and have some drinks at the bar. Great location but can be cold in the evening. Blankets were provided so we're very helpful. We arrived after the chair service was closed so ordered at the bar. Overall, it was a great experience.
Beautiful grounds. Great staff. Fantastic atmosphere
Great service and made sure everything was perfect for our wedding!
The lawn is perfect for watching the scenery and having a cocktail. I recommend this place to see Newport's view.
Absolutely amazing atmosphere. The adirondack chairs on the lawn facing the ocean to view the sail boats in time for the boat show. Just perfect!
Always love coming back, amazing food & beautiful views!
Elegance along one of the most scenic vistas in Newport RI. I enjoyed the pineapple coconut dessert while enjoying the sea breeze outside. The valet was quick and efficient. Professional and polite staff.
I have been to Castle Hill Inn 5 times over the past 3 years. I have always found it exquisite and looked forward to each visit. This time my visit was not up to par. First and foremost, the woman that manages the front desk at the hotel is always pleasant and knowledgeable. She has always been kind. The individuals that bring breakfast and clean the rooms were also very kind and capable. The three stars falls on the restaurant and the dining experience. Our entrees took well over an hour to arrive ( and that is with only 3 other patrons in the dining area). I ordered my steak medium well, and made sure that it was medium well and it was served rare. On the second day (three other people in the restaurant) our entrees took over an hour, and we were charged for an entree - we ordered the vegetarian entree and we were charged for one that was $17 more expensive. I tried to engage in conversation in the wait staff, but they were in too much of a hurry to speak to me - they were polite, but would never engage in conversation. I left feeling uncomfortable and saddened by an elitist pretentiousness that need not exist. All in all, for three people, first night, 2 risotto meals with vegetable and dessert, and 1 steak with a bowl of soup and ice-cream - 3 drinks cost $360.00 not including tip. The next night, two trout dinners, mushrooms that were so hard they were inedible, two soups, and one risotto, 2 drinks $350
Lastly, there was an individual that came to clean our doormat to our front door that kept looking in our window. My fiance said "there's a man that keeps looking in our window," and sure enough, this guy kept looking in our window. He was not the usual cleaning woman, he was not the turn down service, he was a Castle Hill employee, however I found it very odd that he kept craning his neck and staring in our window.
This was indeed an unusual experience this visit, and sadly my daughter and fiancee have decided that the price does not equal the expectations. Sadly, I feel like we have had our last experience with Castle Hill.
A great inn filled with spectacular service. Very friendly people and great food.
Place to check out. Little busy but has that seaside charm when you sit outside on the lawn or deck. Great views of passing ships and Newport.
historical , high end , beautiful . truly worth every second .
Incredible sights and an amazing place to stay at or just to visit for drinks. Really really wonderful.
Beautiful views. We did not stay, because there was a 45 minute wait. Had a beverage and enjoyed the view
very nice location to look over onto the water, nice area
Amazing, as always. One of the best places in the world.
Had brunch here when we visited. Can't think of having brunch anywhere else. If you're able to get a table outside to also enjoy their beautiful lawn and the water, it's a divine experience!
The food was disappointing ordered a poached lobster and it came out cold. We waited about an hour before we got our food too overall I do not recommend this restraunt.
The view was fantastic. Food and drinks were delicious and hard to step away from, and the atmosphere was classy, in a relaxed manner. We attended a wedding here, and the transition to from outdoor ceremony and cocktails to indoor food was very well-executed.
The service was nice and the food was amazing. The food was pricey, but that is what you should expect before even considering this place. Their cocktails we're great and the Bramble Smash was delicious. The fried calamari was fantastic. The view is nice but it gets very crowded and chairs are hard to grab. Make sure that if you don't want to do valet parking you.park on the grass about halfway up the hill.
Beach cottages are the best spots on property, the Inn is super classy and the lighthouse and lawn have awesome views especially around sunset time 5 star all around and be sure to steal the robe (kidding) they are gnarly !!!
Went to a wedding, it was ridiculously nice and the food was stupid-good.
The view is gorgeous! Be prepared with sunscreen and a hat because sitting in the gazebo is limited. The food is quite good using local ingredients. Loved the oysters and the unique take on tuna poke (appetizer, with watermelon instead of tomato). Lobster roll was solid with healthy amount of lobster.
We have been going here since 2005 for both overnight getaways and dining. Gorgeous views of the more rustic part of the bay. Food is some of the best you will find in Rhode Island. Service is 5 star, while still being warm and friendly. Castle Hill will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Superior food and accommodations. Even just to have a drink on the bluff overlooking Newport is spectacular. I ve stayed in the hotel, had dinner, weddings. Everything was spectacular. Wonderful staff, fabulous views.
Visited it as we saw it sailing in the harbor. Great view, plenty of parking, beautiful building.
We went for restaurant week. Each course contained a bouquet of flavors and was delicious.
Wonderful time at the dining room. Food and service was impeccable.
