River Valley Athletic Club is a disgusting place - do not waste your time or money going there.
The wenches running the place and the crabby and skanks they have at the front counter create such a negative atmosphere we cancelled our membership.
The equipment is old and dangerous, the locker rooms are dirty and smell.
Go to the Y or another place where the equipment is not dangerous to use and the staff actually wants you to be a member.
River Valley Athletic Club IS NOT RECOMMENDED - DO NOT GO THERE!

I (and my family) have been members at River Valley for just about 18 yrs now but I am ready to cut all ties with this gym. The equipment is all about the same as when we joined and today doesn't seemed to be well maintained. Today however was the last straw for me, as I was trying to finish my cool down I was approached by the front desk associate who very rudely told me they were closed and I needed to leave, once I had gathered my things and was heading to my car I noticed right behind me that the front desk lady was also leaving even though there was still staff in the gym. Needless to say I will be cancelling my membership at River Valley and begin the process of opening my own gym, which I will then make it my mission to put them out of business while showing them how a real gym is supposed to operate.

I didn't mind the older equipment; in fact I was quite fond of some of it. But the club's solution to the aging equipment situation in Spring 2017 was to get rid of a lot of it and replace it with EMPTY SPACE. And if you want a lesson in bad customer relations, have yourself a little chat with manager Laura, who told me twice in the course of a five minute conversation that I was free to look elsewhere. Lots of disgruntled customers there.

RVAC is a decent fitness center. Some of the equipment is poorly maintained while other machines are working just fine. They recently added new treadmills, however at least 1, if not 2 are already under repair. There are some front desk receptionists who are friendly and welcoming and others who give the impression they would rather be anywhere but working the front desk. On the plus side, there is free wi-fi, all types of body shapes and sizes workout here. If you're not "Gold Gym's body builder of the month", you won't feel uncomfortable. The entire facility is aging. I think they're doing the best they can with the resources they have to keep up as much as possible with keeping the place presentable. However, it's 2015 and people have multiple options for where they want to spend their money. If I could wave a magic wand, I'd wish for a complete and full remodel of the gym. Complete with state of the art weight machines, all new cardio, a full locker room makeover and a total re-do of the interior. If you've been to a Lifetime Fitness lately there is simply no comparison to RVAC. However, if you understand that what you have going into a membership here is a simply "Okay" facility, you won't be disappointed.

If you don't care AT ALL were you go to work out this place is for you! Don't expect much from the staff if you have any concerns. Bring your own towel for sure, if you are thinking about showering you might want to reconsider... its not really clean it there.

Absolutely love this gym. They are doing a great job during the pandemic with cleanliness and social distancing. I was nervous going back to the gym but it is very clean and spacious. Great staff and everything I m looking for.

The machines are always broken down. The front staff never has a smile on their face. Unfortunately it's the only place in town that has a full service. And I don't think the owner really cares about updating anything.

River valley has everything you need to get a good workout. The facilities feel a little old, but everything is functional. There is a wide variety of machines, free weights, a pool, racquetball courts, basketball/volleyball gym, and group classes included in the membership.

Edit: New ownership has updated old equipment and made a variety of very welcome aesthetic changes in addition to adding capacity for olympic lifting, more squat racks, and benches.

Hmmm, I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews about the front desk staff. I have always been greeted with a smile and a helpful attitude. The machines are a bit worn. The newer ones seem to get the most use and then break down more often. The trainers are great and the classes are very good. I wish more were available in the evenings. If you have a normal working schedule in the cities, you are sort of out of luck with many of the classes.

The club is looking great with new equipment, interior paint/diamond metal around the weight room. Old machines all have new cables with pins attached with equipment. The new TV's in the Cardio is a big plus, also the new stretching area gives you the privacy which is very nice. The members and new upgrades are a big plus, and let us not forget thank the new owners.

Enjoy going to the facility but I do have concerns about the safety of the fitness machines. Many are in poor repair and don't seem to be regularly serviced. Several other individuals I have met at the facility have expressed the same concerns.

They have a great cardio area, and their free weights are pretty good as well. They have a very nice indoor pool, and sauna. However, I have never used their spa. The only things I don't like is their outdoor pool is okay but not great, and they don't have a deadlift station in their weight room.

I go here because my hair stylist is here, Center of Attraction. I've been seeing my same girl for about 30 years. We're 2 years age difference, me being older. She's awesome! I'll follow her anywhere.

I've been working out at River Valley on and off for about 10 years now. It used to be a mom and pop type of gym, but the renevations that they did definitely makes the place feel up with the times. They have dozens of weight lifting machines and free weights to use along with dozens of various cardio equipment. Other bonuses River Valley has is as follows: Saunas in the locker room, and indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a hot tub (indoors), tanning bed, spa area, racket ball court, basket ball court, crossfit area, and a day care to drop your kids off at while you work out. They also have dozens of classes every month from spin class to yoga. This gym has a little something for everyone!

I d like to rate higher, but the noise from the spinning classes overpower the workout area upstairs. Sunday mornings are especially unbearable. The music is way too loud, the instructors yell loudly & the door is often left open. I wear earbuds & can still hear the yelling & music! Other members have mentioned this noise in my presence , also.

I like the new cardio machines & other changes, but this frequent noise is causing me (and others apparently) to cancel membership at this club.

Workout areas/rooms are good for working out. People working there are nice and friendly. However the locker room/shower areas have really gone down hill in cleanliness. Mold in showers, piles of hair left around.... gross! Might not renew my membership if something doesn't change.

I actually work at the facility and I a sure you, all the staff that work here at river valley are the friendliest people you will ever meet and are nothing close to aggressive. I don't know what those other people are thinking when they say the staff is aggressive... but sorry to say your wrong

For the price and space available, it s a good gym if you are not too picky and just need somewhere to work out. Things that are NOT a priority - cleanliness and staff friendliness.

Members also treat this space as a social club and there are a few older men that continue to scream across the weight room and carry on conversations instead of actually working out. Seems like this gym needs a social room.

Will 100% be moving gyms when my membership expires.
