Surprisingly very quiet place for Sunday lunch. My roast sirloin of beef was overcooked and the quality of beef was not up to the standard for the price although the portion was reasonable. Fantastic Yorkshire pudding though. Minute pudding followed, certainly not the "Something to die for" as far as home cooked goes.

Visited this hotel hoping to have a lovely afternoon tea with my sister she is allergic to cheese and I am vegetarian on arrival we we're shown to our table next to another occupied table so my sister requested another table in the corner so as we could have a conversation which could not be overheard which was done within a minute as we were seated we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee and orders taken when the beverages we're brought to us we were asked if we were ready for our "afternoon tea" as we were still chatting declined it for another 10 mins. We then advised the waitress whose name I didn't catch that we was now ready she gave us a three tier cake stand with 2 egg mayo finger sandwiches and 1 ham finger sandwich for the person with cheese allergy and 2 cheese and pickle finger sandwiches and 1 egg mayo finger sandwich for the vegetarian 2 warm scones and a plate of stale choc bites plain profiteroles and lemon cake bites along with 4 slices of Victoria sponge that was quite soggy on the bottom dirty cutlery and frankly no service when required.
This is the worse afternoon tea I have ever had and believe me I have had a few I personally would not recommend this place for afternoon tea to ANYBODY what a disappointment !!!!!

We had a Christmas meal. As a vegan, I found the selection was quite basic. All of the courses were quite odd tasting, and I am guessing with someone who isn't vegan making the menu. For instance, the chocolate "cake" should have been served with a sweeter sorbet to counteract the bitterness of the dark chocolate. Orange sorbet did not compliment it all. The starter of foccacia with olive oil was horribly dry, and the oils incredibly bitter and flavourless. There was no alternative to the non-vegan mince pies during coffee after the meal, and so I had to recommend maybe cutting up some fruit, to which I received a few slices of apple and two segments of orange..

I went here for a wedding after party and found it to be a visually great place. Staff came across very friendly and polite. I only stopped for around two hours but it is definitely worth going to again.

We stayed overnight following our sons wedding. This is a fantastic venue for a wedding but is definitely starting to look tired and frankly dirty in places and the disable access bedroom in the main building that we stayed in, is one of those places.
At first glance the bedroom with wetroom seemed fine. It was only when we started using the room you notice the problems. The bedroom carpet was frankly filthy and we made certain we didn't put bare feet on it. I lifted the net curtain at the window and found dust, dead flies and moths. The main building is extremely old and the internal window ledges of bedroom and wetroom are the original stone, unfortunately there are paint splashes all over them because no one thought of protecting them during decoration.
The house phone was in the bathroom! The bathroom had a permanently pulled down blind, as it's an original window . It's permanently down as the cord is lying on the stone sill ! There is a raised toilet but only a drop down support rail on the left side and not one for the right ! Poor thinking. The shower area has a moveable shower chair but the shower is overhead, so if you need help showering, your carer will have to get wet with you. Again poor thinking. There was rough, poorly finished grouting along the tiles by the bathroom window. Every time I needed to use the sink in the bathroom I needed to get some help, as the push lever style tap was so stiff I could not move it. The shower curtain had a broken hook/loop and 2 metal rings were on the bathroom floor. My husband picked them up and hooked the curtain as best he could.
The bed deserves a paragraph to itself! The mattress was abysmal. Any slight movement caused it to squeak, creak and ping. It was so uncomfortable and noisy that sleep was impossible. At 2am my husband suggested we got in our car, drive home and return for breakfast. I talked him out of doing so but I had little to no sleep all night but finished one book and read 15 chapters of a new book. The mattress apart from being noisy and uncomfortable, provided no support at all. Awful.
Breakfast was frankly a farce with slow service. We asked 5 times for gluten free bread for myself. On the 5th occasion the reply was "oh I'll go and see again then", it was obviously just too much trouble. When the bread eventually arrived, the 2 small slices had been defrosted in a microwave making the top slice dry on uppercase and the bottom slice dry on underside. Then my gluten free cooked breakfast arrived, with 2 burnt slices of toast but untoasted on other side! The poached egg did a good impression of a squash ball and wasn't eaten. I can honestly say the only good part of breakfast was the single flat mushroom.
There are shingle paths around the building which wheelchairs, manual and electric do not react well to, so despite having my electric chair with me , it had to stay in the car.
I feel we should have made management aware at the time of all the problems but it was our sons wedding and we didn't want to spoil their day.

Been to two weddings here and both were great. Such a lovely building and grounds that make you feel your somewhere else, not so close to Birmingham city centre. Staff have always been friendly with plenty of people on hand to assist with queries. They do afternoon tea and dining I believe. I have never stopped overnight but have seen a room that was recently refurbished. Modern bathroom but kept the bedroom classic.

We stayed here for one night recently in the State Room - an absolutely wonderful room and wish we could have stayed longer. The staff were great, breakfast excellent but the only reason for the 4 stars was the evening menu. Very good but could do with more dynamics to it. But the rooms prices are amazing to say you are not staying in a bland box. Would highly recommend.

I booked 2 rooms at 10:15pm at night directly with the hotel - due to a sudden change in circumstance (breakdown) I need to cancel the rooms 15 minutes later. The receptionist had gone off duty but the night manager said it would be no problem and it would be sorted in the morning.

I asked if he would refund the cost of the breakfast that was also included in the price - again he refused...

If they are so desperate for money maybe they should improve the hotel so more people would like to stay in it?

Booked a surprise birthday party for Sunday lunch in these wonderful surroundings and the food and service was exceptional. I was a little apprehensive as none of our guests had eaten here before but any reservations I had were unfounded as everything was exceptional. I took a cake, balloons and decorations in the day before and they decorated the table for my guests including the cake. My thanks to Sophie and all the staff for making the lunch a memorable one and for going over and above my expectations on the day. If you haven t already visited this venue I strongly recommend it.

This is a very pretty hotel and conveniently located, the staff were very friendly. This would have scored 4 stars but the " superior double" room we had was more like Harry potter's cupboard

Beautiful building, the original oak panelled dining room with the grand fireplace is gorgeous.
Nice spaces, well thought out.
I stayed in an economy room rather than he big old rooms in the main house with the big fireplaces, but for what I paid, really nice, no complaints at all.
Food good, though not amazing. Not too expensive.

Very nice hotel. Food is basic but very well prepared. Nothing fancy. Tasted good. Great breakfast and the rooms are a good size and very clean. Good value for money. I would stay here again.

The excellent staff put on a fabulous buffet for my mum's Life Celebration following her funeral. Nothing was too much trouble and the room was beautiful. Many thanks to all concerned. Mel Starkey and family.
