There were good and bad things about my experience...
There were good and bad things about my experience here. The rooms are nice and spacious, most with porches to the outside which was amazing. Some of the staff is amazing, some not so much. Here is why I have to give CMC Pineville 2 stars:
It took 1.5 hours to be checked into my room for delivery. True, I was a first time mom, but the fact is it took too long, and I was unable to get the epidural I requested upon arriving to the hospital. Our daughter was sunny-side up, and delivery was very painful. Though they did not get me my room in-time, they were great during delivery. The nurse the second night, however, was terrible. Constantly interrupted our sleep because she didn't know how to use the equipment. We also didn't see the lactation nurse regularly. Again there, some were great (Lean), others didn't provide much help or accurate info (personal breast pumps are just fine thank you, 10 months PP and it's still working great).
The thing that makes me the most upset was what happened the second night in the hospital (with the bad nurse). Our daughter was having an issue with high bilirubin levels, so it was important for her to eat. We were trying breastfeeding, for over an hour at a time, but she was still hungry. Finally at around 3am, we were all exhausted. We called the nurse and ask that our daughter be taken to the nursery, and given some formula. Well, they wouldn't give her any! They just said, "we don't recommend formula if you're trying to breastfeed.". They took her for 45 minutes, and brought her back screaming, because of course she was still hungry. And of course, this didn't help her bili levels either. They eventually gave us formula a few hours later, but only with a syringe to eat from, saying only to give her a tiny amount.
When our pediatrician got there, she was pissed.
Apparently it's hospital policy to wait for the approval of the pediatrician to give formula? There was also a questionarre that asked "has your baby had anything but breastmilk at the hospital?" I honestly think they discouraged us from feeding her so their breastfeeding numbers could look good. My daughter wound up needing to stay an extra day to lay under the bili bed. I don't know if it could have been avoided had they honored our request the first time, but possibly.
Will I ever deliver there again? Probably, just because it's so close to our house, and again, the rooms are nice. I just know I need to be more demanding next time.
