the driver was on time, called me a few minutes in advance to inform me he was arriving, and the car was very clean. there was a separation between the passenger and the driver who was wearing a face mask.
A friend recommended this company to me because last time I took a taxi from Newark Airport to Brooklyn I was ripped off and charged twice as much as it was supposed to be. I'm so glad that I used Carmel this time, because it was easy to make a reservation, the fare was reasonable and it was easy to spot the car with a big sign that had my name on it. Carmel's driver was on time for my 5:45am trip to the airport. I was a few minutes late. ;-) He was courteous and helpful. I had a small piece of luggage for my one day trip out of town, and he loaded it into the trunk, graciously. The car was a newer model and was very comfortable. Years ago, I thought their cars were a little dilapidated, but they have improved tremendously. This is my personal review and I approve this message. This service is reliable, professional, and a pretty decent deal. Full disclaimer: I'm getting a credit for writing this review-but I would likely write it anyway and I'll definitely use this service again. I used it from LGA to Brooklyn. There were very few cabs at LGA when we arrived, but Carmel Car service was already there when we go to the parking lot. No waiting! Driver was courteous--no road rage. I love that I can book it ahead of time on my phone and prepay. No hassle, no surprise.

MUCH more refined, and no additional haggling for tips/tolls at the end - it's all included in the app and you just walk away (like Uber/Lyft). Definitely getting much better. Driver was right on time and right in front of my building. He greeted me with a friendly smile and got out to help me as soon as we made eye contact. He was professional and courteous and asked if I had a preferred route. All in all it was another great experience with Carmel!
Update 8/2/2019. I have been using Carmel for more than 30 years and their service is consistent and dependable. I would highly recommend Carmel. You can set up cars in advance and the driver always arrives promptly, it's like a private chauffeur. Worst service ever! I reserved a car for a flight getting in after midnight. Followed the directions...called I picked up my bags, described what I was wearing...stood outside in the cold and was told that the driver would be there in 5-7 minutes. He never showed up!! I got a text at about 15 minutes saying that the driver was a few minutes away. Ten minutes later - give them a call and they day he is still 10 minutes away! And they had the nerve to charge my card after I cancelled. Called an Uber who was there in 4 minutes. In this day and age with Uber, Lyft, Juno and Via...I hope misleading people @100 am puts them out of business!

I had two great trips with Carmel on my recent visit to New York. The drivers were courteous, prompt and the rides were smooth and quick. I will definitely use them again. Carmel has given me a $10 credit for my next ride for this review, but this is my own review. Highly recommend!
First off I legally have to tell you that I will receive $10 off my next booking with Carmel. Now that is said I was going to give them a great review any way. I used them to go back and forth from the Bronx to the cruise port (Cape Liberty) in Bayonne. Uber, Lyft and other private car services wanted $200-300 for 5 people and 5 pcs of luggage. Carmel sent a beautiful Suburban for $108! The pickup was right on time in the Bronx and when we landed we were early so I called Carmel and they sent the driver early. I wish I knew about them earlier, I would have used them on other trips.
I landed at JFK airport and I had my luggage. I called Carmel and a professional dispatcher answered immediately and told me my pickup driver would be there in less than 5 minutes and would have a sign in his window with my name. I saw the driver right away and he helped me with my bags and when placing them in the trunk he was very careful with my camera equipment. There was plexiglass between the front and back seats and he wore a mask the entire trip to Manhattan. The car had a very clean smell and was newly sanitized which made me feel comfortable in this Covid environment. The driver was professional and courteous and a safe driver who took his work seriously. It was a relaxing trip because of this and I appreciate Carmel's good work on hiring someone who cared about safety.

Not bad, could be better. The Carmel app needs improvement, it showed my driver was in the airport driving around looking for me when he wasn't even near the terminal. There was also a billing issue where I was almost charged twice for the trip. But I would use this service again, it is more reasonably priced than ride-share apps. I don't expect the usability of Uber/Lyft or even consistency in quality of car or driver...but Carmel is often a cheaper option (particularly at peak times).

The driver was nice but a danger on the road, kept looking at his phone which was right in the line of sight on top of his windshield, and another phone in the middle of the windshield. He constantly drove in the left lane while people were passing us and kept veering off the road not paying attention. Not a great experience and constantly on edge while sitting in the backseat. I guess it s a crapshoot on the driver you get, but this guy clearly had no fluidity or smoothness to his driving And I was not comfortable at all
This is my fourth time using this car company and the second time I was NOT picked up in the car I reserved in advance and paid in full for. Drivers are very polite and courteous but again this is the second time I was picked up in a car when I requested and paid for a luxury SUV. I'm currently stuffed in the back seat with my two grown teenagers while my husband is seated in the front with one of our luggage on his lap leaving enough room for the driver to see the side view passenger mirror. I wouldn't recommend this company to others.

I've been using Carmel for years as a way to get me to the airport, especially at off times when cabs are less available and Ubers/lyfts are not around. There's never surge pricing, you can schedule a time online and include tip, tolls, etc. They are always on time if not a little early, very clean car, professional drivers.
During COVID-19 I have also used them to schedule trips to visit my parents on Long Island. Perfect service.

We used Carmel twice in a week on a recent trip to NYC. One ride was excellent, the other was lacking. The pickup from the airport was in a stretch limo (a surprise for our daughter's first trip to NYC). Freddie was great, the car was great, everything was amazing. On the day we flew out, we booked a "deluxe town car" which ended up being a Toyota Camry... For 3 bags and 3 people. The big suitcases BARELY fit in the trunk, and the smaller rolling bag had to go in the front seat. This apparently is illegal, so we were charged an extra $10 for having to use the front seat for luggage... by no fault of our own. We told Carmel how many bags we had, and how many people, and they booked us with a vehicle that was insufficiently sized for our needs at the price quoted. Not cool. We might use Carmel again in the future, but this certainly wasn't a great experience.

Great experience on a busy Memorial Day Friday afternoon from LGA to Times Square. Carmel was already waiting on us and we were 30 minutes earlier than our reservation. Will definitely book them again.

I was stressed because the Newark shuttle service that I use is not running due to the pandemic so I went to Google to search for alternatives and this was the best priced even after toll & tip it was STILL less expensive than other services. I was offered 10$ credit for this review but I'm under quarantine & won't be traveling by plane for a while after all the turbulence on my flight.
I recommend this car service a thousand percent.
The driver was very polite took the fastest route and waited for me while I fumbled for my keys outside of my apartment building at midnight. He arrived within 5 minutes of when he should have and I would certainly use Carmel. Apparently I also need to indicate that they reward people with $10 toward my next ride when I rate them.

My Carmel car broke down with a flat tyre on the highway from Newark airport. Spent close to 1 hour on the road calling Carmel for a replacement car which never arrived. Should at the minimum get a fare refund.

I went from Manhattan to central New Jersey last week with Idris who was on time, had a very clean vehicle, wore a mask, was a good driver and pleasant to talk to. The Carmel phone rep answered promptly and was helpful. They have a good automated system keeping you informed.
First off, I was concerned with the negative reviews, but I decided to try them anyway. I gave the 4 stars because the driver was early and he helped with the bags. He was not rude but, he was also not polite. I understand you're at work, however a smile or "good morning" never hurt anyone. Overall, I would use them again.

Carmel is very good! Their prices are reasonable and the drivers I have gotten are very polite and courteous. They call me upon arrival and take suggestions with no hesitation. Driver tried to steal money and lied to say we owed more. Customer service admitted he demanded more than he should have but has been nothing but rude. If customer service could handle fixing their mistakes I won t feel so uncomfortable. Don t get in the car with Fei.
