Had the all you can eat crabs. Good taste at the start but the place was cold enough to chill them down way to fast. Found the taste was good till i got one that smelled off. All in all thought the quality didn't match the price.

I recently took my mother here for her birthday. When we arrived there was a host desk that had a sign that said a hostess will seat you. We waited over five minutes without being greeted. I then went to the bar to inquire about getting a table. A server then let us know she would be with us soon. A minute or so later, that same server took us to a table. We were then left alone for over 5 minutes again. We left.

The place was chaotic and dirty. The brown paper they put on each table was hanging into the trash can (pic attached to review).

My family has been coming to Captain John's for years and for the last several times coming there to dine the experience just keeps getting worse and worse! We were there last night and sadly it will be our last time! They use to have all you can eat Snow crab legs but they took that off the menu a long time ago. The service there is really bad and getting worse. When we sat down there was food all over our seats and old shrimp on the food under the table. Looking around at the other tables, they were just as filthy. We sat there for a long time before we were asked what we wanted to drink, then we had to ask our waiter for silverware long after the food came to the table. They were out of Snow crab legs and large crabs. We ordered a mix of medium & small crabs. The crabs that were served we're so small that there was no way they were legal! Not only were they tiny but they were old and reheated. They smelled bad and the crab meat was mushy! This place has gone down hill and if they don't change soon i don't think they will stay in business for much longer! After many years of coming there, we will never go back again!

Staff always kind.

Little pricey for legs though.

Going to see the place you already knew it was gonna be fun. Yet, i walked in a busy Father's day... I enjoyed the food even though it was jammed packed and also we ordered a buffet. So far so good and the folks who work there although busy were so kind and understanding. I would suggest it to anyone going to dunkirk. Its an pure experience trying out seafood, the old fashioned way. From the maryland crab chowder to the clam and potato chowder... Even to the catfish, flounder and the rockfish... And the crab... Pure deliciousness. Please check them out while you can.

Had lunch with my husband. Food was good, waitress was terrible with service. Took her 10 mins to get our drink orders, then another 15 to bring them. She took our lunch order and it took a decent 35 mins for us to get the food which was covered in tin foil to keep warm. She messed up our drink order and while the other waitresses were around being attentive, she was NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. Especially when we wanted a refill. She check on us maybe once while we are. Had it not been for my good conscience I would have walked out without paying because we waited a good 25 mins after we were finished for the check. Not to mention it was slower than molasses in wintertime in the restaurant so I do not understand why she was not paying attention. We loved the food but the service sucked. Had the service been good I would give 4 stars but the service alone was so terrible that I am apprehensive about even driving the 35 mins to come back

Coming from MD I decided to meet friends halfway from VA. The plan was to meet friends and eat blue crabs and that we did. It was sit anywhere we wanted when I first arrived at approx 4pm in the afternoon but soon after customers started pouring in which was a good sign for me.
I really have no complaints cos all I did was eat a dozen crabs, have a few beers and catch up with friends. Scott our waiter constantly made sure we had everything we needed, beer was cold and the crabs were great and not over cooked to mush or empty shells. Bathrooms were clean and restaurant had good air conditioning for a hot day.

We were told this was a great place to stop for some great Maryland crab. It's also in a small community reminiscent of an old fishing port. Sadly, it was mediocre fried seafood. Nothing really stood out other than the crab cakes.

I love going to places where you feel comfortable, no rush, just eat and enjoy the water view and food. Quality seafood, friendly staff. If you live in Charles County, VanGO will take you. Large groups and celebrations are welcomed.

One of the best spots in S. MARYLAND for crabs and other seafood. Decently priced food, diverse, comfortable dining environment with a beautiful view of the marina - sunsets are awesome there!

We have been buying (large) crabs from this place for take-out since April of this year (2016), and have never been disappointed until today. We typically pay over a $100 for each purchase, and always thought the 50 mile drive was well worth it. Today, as usual, we asked for large crabs. They said they have some. We get them home, and WHAT DO WE SEE? All small crabs!!!!! OMG, we thought! I called back to speak to the cashier who sold them to me, and was told that she wasn't available. Spoke to "Paula," instead, who flat out denied that I was sold small crabs, and insisted that I was sold large. When I told her that I have purchased crabs many times from Capt. John's, and could easily tell the difference and that it was not typical of this store to sell us small crabs, in place of large. This was truly an unexpected disappointment. When I asked for the owner/manager, Paula became noticeably agitated & extremely condescending & rude before saying "Sir, if you don't like the crabs here, then don't come back here anymore!" Paula's demeanor was disgusting. So, thanks to her, we will NEVER visit this store again, and are anxious to share this experience with all of my lodge brothers, friends, family, including every local crab lover we know to stay far away from this crab house, as possible.

Been here twice. First time was fine, middle of the week. Waitress was good. Food was ok. Second time was a horrible experience. We got seated, 15-20 min later, still no service. So we asked the hostess who assured us she will have someone come at least take our drink orders. 10 min later, we walked out. Maybe it was because it was a Saturday evening? Still, not sure I will come back.

Paid $80 for jumbo drove 76 miles out of state to get them and they were nearly empty of meat and maybe some large ones.not jumbo. Sorely disappointed

This is a really good seafood restaurant. The chef is a master fryer, and the seafood is fresh and tasty. I had an oyster po'boy (without the bread), and a basket of french fries; my husband had a fried flounder sandwich on a roll, not on bread. He was happy with the freshness of both the roll and the fish.

I would give it five stars, but the windows overlooking the water we're a bit grubby. Nonetheless, it is one place I would bring a friend who is in a wheelchair. Overall good food, terrific staff, and handicap accessible.

Very good. Lots of food for the price. Crab dip was good although you dont get much (the flavor makes up for that). I got unlimited shrimp with unlimited sides and salad bar which was soooooo much food. The salad bar was full. I didnt have to ask for anything. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. Very good visit.

Very disappointed in our meals today. We ordered the premium crab cakes and we got our order in a timely manner, the waitress was great, no problems so far. Then we took the first bite of crab cake and there was a definite 'fishy' taste. Called the
Waitress over and she said other customers had also complained about the fishy tasting crab cakes. She explained that the crabs came from another supplier and they wouldn't be using this new supplier anymore. My problem was that they already knew about the bad
tasting crab cakes and all they could do was send our waitress back with a somewhat sorry. I would expect
something at least the manager to come over, take off the cost of the crabs, or give a coupon for another time when the
crabs were good tasting. Not sure I could return even if I had a coupon. So disappointed!

I don t post reviews often. Only when I feel it s absolutely deserved. Today Captain John s Crab House in Cobb Island was a huge disappointment. My husband and I showed up at 2pm to celebrate a family member s birthday. A total of 25 people were in the party. The manager, Carol, was notified a week in advance. Once we were seated, our drink orders weren t served for at least a half hour. The first order of food (aside from 4 people getting soup) was not brought to our table until 3:50pm. Nearly 2 hours after being seated! To make it even worse, not everyone received their food until nearly 4:15. One person s order was never entered into the ordering system and by the time the server realized the mistake she said they were all out of that particular entree. It s one thing to forget an order, sure, no one is perfect. But to wait for the amount of time we did for food while everyone around us were getting their orders on time is absolutely uncalled for. The server was inattentive and overwhelmed. Carol s only response to our disappointment in our visit today was that she was short staffed. No compensation on any checks. No apologies. Nothing. Poor management does not help build a business, it drives people away. One thing you can count on is that all 25 people in our party will never recommend Captain John s to anyone.
