This was a killer lil weekend & I'd reccomend this relaxed lil getaway to anyone in need!
A good place to swim, snorkel, and scuba diving. There are also my classes to earn merit badges at. Camp sites are OK. Food there is Awesome.
Too many yellow jackets, but otherwise, quite nice!
I am a seventh grade sra student who went to this island for 5 days this is the place where i stayed Michael Musia
First of all, any visit to Catalina Island is an adventure. Camp Cherry Valley is a great Boy Scout camp, well run but not without a few flaws. The aquatics program is superb. But the camp staff training in shooting sports and other traditional areas like Nature and Pioneering could use work. Also the SCUBA program really needs a recharge. (Honestly - you're at Catalina Island - known worldwide for kelp diving - and you offer only beach dives? Hello - get a dive boat contractor for advanced diving!)
But don't get me wrong. We had a great time and will return. I just think this gem needs a bit more polishing.
Great Boy Scout camp that I went to with my son for cub Scouts. The staff here is exceptionally helpful and cheerful. The energy they give off even affected my "cool" 9 year old.
The food here is hearty and flavorful and quite filling. Definitely one of the best "camp foods" that I've had.
Activities are varied and help a budding Scout on his way to self discovery and service.
An incredible place with even more incredible people in it
Beautiful snorkeling, breathtaking valley, love this place
This place puts magic back into childhood. The young campers that go here for their science exploration trips are allowed a program of snorkeling, conservation, and kayaking. The camp staff are all young at heart and firmly believe that only by experiencing nature in its pristine state will youth understand the importance of nature preserves and protecting wildlife and fauna.
The school children that attend are entralled by camping out in tents and talking nature walks that expose them to panoramic vistas that reach back to mainland California on a clear day.
For those educators and schools looking to give their students a firsthand experience that is genuine and doesn't patronize students, this is definitely the program to consider.
Great staff. Lot of things to do. Snorkeling and kayak are a favorite.
Scout Camp, run by the Greater Los Angeles Area Council. Provides a Summer program for Boy Scouts and a Cub Resident Camp for Cub Scouts. Great experience for first time campers.
Went with the scouts about 15 years ago and I still remember it. One of the best experiences of my life.
Didn't actually go to the camp but Catalina is a gorgeous!
If you ever get the chance to attend Camp Cherry Valley bsa camp GO!!! it will be the best experience of your life! Staff is awesome, safe and trustworthy and you'll learn and have a blast. Just make sure to check with their itinerary and see everything's what you want as its mostly nature and ocean activities if thats what your into. Your on an island so your going to do island stuff
I like this place because there are so many fun things to do
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Beautiful weather, many things to do on the water.
It was an amazing time I can tell that the staff really wanted to be there and we were treating amazingly you showers and bathrooms were clean all the time everything was very organized and I felt like we were always being kept track of and being kept safe it was an amazing catch good for anyone.
Camped there often as Boy Scout.
Became a Counselor later as an Eagle Scout. And boated there as a Sea Scout. A Higblight of my Youth.
I like this camp a lot. There are activities every night for scouts. Not only that troop needs to plan every night for next morning inspection. Lot of good couselor. They make scout work hard for Eagle merit badge. However they dont offer lot of merit badges as other camps. I like food there and lot of walking.
This time of year the island is a brilliant green. Wild flowers are beginning to bloom. There is water in the salina and the frogs are singing! The people snorkeling yesterday tell me not only did the see several lobster but even a puffer fish was spotted! I never get tired of the rustic beauty and the feeling of being so close to nature when I am at Cherry Valley.
I went as you very young Scott back in 1972 it's an experience I will never forget swimming in cherry cove the stories told at night and canoeing from cherry cove out past the big the big rocks where I was able to see my first shark in the wild at night the sky was filled with stars and you could see the lights of San Pedro in the distance
Been here a week and I couldn't be happier, nature at it's best! The weather is amazing, the facilities are not new but it they comfortable and cozy. Love this place!!!
Great scout and youth camp on Catalina Island. One of only 2 on the Island. Fun ocean based activities.
Amazing Camping area... and with everything close by, what is not to like. Could use more SHADE areas...
Great Boy Scout camp. Beautiful area. Friendly and helpful staff.
Great Boy Scout summer camp. I've been twice now and loved it every time!
Came here all the time as a scout. Only one minor incident in the camp shower. Otherwise great camp
On July 27 2014 to August 2 2014 I went to camp cherry valley. It was really fun and there are lots to do. At 2:30 you leave long beach on the boat. You get there at about 4:30. After that you hike in to camp. At CCV there is something called starboard and port watch. Star board does most things first. The first thing you do there for starboard is eat dinner. After is port. After dinner you need to go to the chapel for the staff to make a speech. At 8 pm you have the closing flag ceremony.
The next morning at 7:00 for starboard you have breakfast and port has inspection. At 7:40 they swap. At 8:45 you have the opening flag ceremony then starboard has swim check. Then port has swim check. At 12:20 starboard has lunch. At 1:00 port has lunch. One hour later you have your first merit badge class then second merit badge class then your third. At 5:15 starboard has dinner. 5:55 port has dinner. After dinner you have team building games. 8:00 is the closing flag ceremony then you have a camp fire.
On Tuesday you have breakfast and the flag ceremony as usual. 9:25 am to 11:25 am are your merit badge class. Then you have lunch as usual. From 2-5 pm you can do any activity you want. Then you have dinner. After dinner you have your night time activity. Thursday and Friday are the same.
On Wednesday you go hiking to eBay, shark habor or silver peak. You have lunch on the trail. The rest of the day is mostly the same as the other days.
At 8:00 on Thursday u will have somthing called honer trail.
On Saturday (the last day) you will have an inspection as normal. At 8:30 am you will have a closing flag ceremony. After that you will hike to two harbors then get on the boat and go home.
Great place for the boy scouts my grandson and I loved the staff and all the things that we were able to do
I work there and we work really hard to make the experience something the kids will remember and the programs have a staff that is just awesome! Whether it's Scouting or CEMI, it's a great and safe place for the kids to come and learn something about life, the ocean, and even themselves! :)
Beautiful camp. Rich in history and amazing staff. I highly reccomend.
Was an amazing time. The staff really care about the scouts and it shows. Would give this 10 stars if I could.
Wonderful camp, highly recommended! Would rate six stars if possible. :-)
My experience of Camp Cherry Valley comes from probably 30 years ago. My grandfather was a campmaster and did most of the cooking when we went to CCV during the time I was in Cub Scouts. I have lots of fond memories of this place as a boy. I remember getting anxious when gramma told me we were heading over to Catalina for the weekend! We've taken both the fast boat and the slow boat over from the mainland. If you're old enough to remember those, and came to CCV, maybe we know each other!
