First off, all museums should have free general entry like this place! I have been here many times over the years. I loved it when I was younger and still love it now as an adult. It's so much fun and has several awesome exhibits, attractions, and is extremely interactive. They also always have wonderful rotating special exhibits, such as Egyptian mummies, Science of a dog, Lego Creations, just to new a few recent ones. They have a large, permanent space exhibit which is so fun to kids and has many vr simulation machines and they also have the Endeavour space shuttle. My husband loves riding the highwire bike on a three story high cable line for $3, just as much as the kids enjoy it. There are also four different food places downstairs which is very convenient.

They have up the exhibits here in the ecosystems area, and it's free. Even though they now charge $3 per person for the Space Shuttle Endeavour exhibit, it's the best bargain in terms of museums. Of course you have to pay for the IMAX films but people love it anyway. They also have a great gift shop!

Free!

The California Science Museum in Los Angeles, near the USC Campus is an excellent museum to visit. Has a small Food Court, near the Rose Gardens. And the Space Shuttle located in it. The Apollo 18 Space Capsule. A California coast Aquatic underwater sea life, off our coast. It's an excellent place to take children, and broaden their little minds. It's Wheelchair friendly, for I am a 62yr old paraplegic, and had no problems, by myself. Access drove me there from Glendale, and drove me back. A $2.75 fare each way. Tickets for the museum are under $10 before 1:00pm, and free afterwards. It's a place that I highly recommend attending!

Entry is a donation, and absolutely worth the trip. Favourite was the aquarium, so breathtaking. It was really interesting to see a staff member scuba dive during an excursion of kids, and communicate and answer their questions while within the aquarium, and you'd see them through the glass. The overall Center is a bit old, that's true, but for a donation entry it's very worth the money. Great place to go on a budget. The USS Endeavour was awe-inspiring and very insightful.

The IMAX Egypt is nothing short of spectacular! Best IMAX I have ever seen.
The exhibit is well curated and beautiful.
Perfect way to get kids, teens and adults excited about history and art. Run to see it!

A very good museum! We went to see the King Tut exhibit. It is beautifully presented. Part 1 is on the 3rd floor and Part 2 is on the 1st floor. Get the audio tour. The signs that explain the various artifacts are well explained, however, you will learn more about certain items via the audio tour. Not every piece has an audio tour connection, but the important ones do!

Go see the IMAX Egypt movie while there. Stunning photography and a true history lesson of Egypt told in a very engaging way.

Another well done exhibit by the California Science Center.

The entrance fee is incredible and the exhibition is substantial. Although there are old facilities, I think that there are many spots where you can experience and learn science in various forms, and adults and children can enjoy it. ^ ^
* Some experiences and special exhibitions are charged.

The parking lot can be stopped free on the street (usc direction) if it is far away.

We visited especially to see the space shuttle endeavor. It was amazing to see in person. Good exhibit on the shuttle program. We arrived late in the day and were not able to do much, but the rest of the facility looked great.

Fun museum. At the time we saw the traveling King Tut show which was awesome. The space shuttle endeavor is there full time and costs extra but very cool and worth it. I'd also recommend the Imax movie.
The food court is reasonable and a lot of variety.
It was a bit chilly inside so if you get cold easily I'd wear layers.
Fun day trip!

Wonderful place! Go early to see any paid exhibit because you can get mobbed by children lol! Very well designed place with food available although there are plenty of places to eat a nice picnic lunch!

If you haven't seen a space ship up close, go and see one here. The California Science Center is both home to NASA's youngest and most advanced space shuttle, Endeavour, and great low-budget way to keep kids entertained for a day, and maybe help them learn something too.

The Endeavor exhibit lets you get right up close to the orbiter, and even lets you touch the tires of a ship that flew to space. They also have many other space capsules from the Apollo, Gemini and Mercury eras. On other levels you'll find all manner of exhibits, from California wildlife (including some real animals on exhibit) to earth sciences, as well as a rotation of other high-end exhibits (check the website for more info)

There is also an IMax screen that has been recently upgraded to the latest technology.

The Endeavor exhibit costs $2 per person (tickets must be bought in advance) and the rest of the museum is free (though a small donation will help them keep it that way)

I have been going here for almost 60 years. Starting as the Museum of science and industry and then massively expanding to what is there now. Entrance is free. Two floors of exhibits where usually 80% are working, which is good for a science museum. Go through the space exploration area, then reef exhibits. Lots of physics and mechanical displays. Human body area, auto safety, etc. Food is available down stairs and the gift shop is impressive. Do not forget the IMAX if you need a movie, that is not free.

Cool place lots of exhibits, free to enter except the special exhibits about $10 and the endeavour space shuttle exhibit which only costs 3 dollars. Really amazing and mind blowing experience for a free to enter museum

Just went to their special King Tut exhibition and also saw the Endeavor exhibit. Words are hard to find to describe the fantastic King Tut exhibit. It was breathtaking. Well worth the trip from Phoenix. The Endeavor exhibit was interesting and enjoyable and well done. This was my first time visiting the museum and I was impressed with everything I saw. There were plenty of staff in all areas and they were friendly and helpful. The food court was another plus.

One of the best space exhibits i have been to. Featuring the endeavor space shuttle. Registration is 3 dollars, and general admission is free. There are also a lot of other samples from the space race history and nice experiments for kids. I recommend bringing at least two hours.

Great

My favorite past time by far is visiting museums, so when I heard about Cal Academy's 21+ event on Thursday evenings, I knew I had to go. The tricky part was finding/making the time, and after a year of excuses, I attended the feline night a few weeks back.

Very cool place! Decent size. Can spend a few hours inside. All different science exhibits from Physics, history, biology, to Marine life. Free for the main museum. But a few extra dollars for the space shuttle and IMAX theater, which were really cool and worth it! I recommend the space over the King Tut movie.

The Pulse Body Works was mind blowing. The Space Shuttle exhibit was awesome!
We bought a vegan quinoa and edamame salad with a bag of kale chips. And veggies with hummus dip at the little self serve food store. Surprisingly delicious!
