We had heard about Cafe Maxx for a long time but had never mustered up the courage to go. We are certainly very glad that we finally made it over.
It doesn t have tremendous curb appeal, but once you re in, you re hooked. Nice ambiance, good service and the food is the closer. We had the sweet onion crusted snapper and the 3 peppercorn crusted filet mignon as main dishes. Both were spectacular.
The beef tenderloin tartare was a strong appetizer. The yellowfin tuna and salmon sashimi was good, but would probably opt for something else next time.
But those main dishes. Still salivating over those even though I m very full!

Everything we had was delicious! The atmosphere is relaxing and staff accommodating. We had a brussel sprouts appetizer that was FANTASTIC! I loved the sweet chile sauce. We also had a sushi pizza as an appetizer. I don't typically care for sushi, but it was really tasty. For the main course, my cousin had ravioli and I had the scallops. She loved the ravioli and says she gets it every single time she dines there. The scallops and risotto was absolutely delicious! I will definitely be returning here again soon!
Experience makes the masters. Unique flavor rich takes on land and sea protein. Texture combinations are perfect. I had the best Risotto ever not one but 2 desserts. Will be back to enjoy the steak my partner barely allowed me to taste.
In the areas of the Atlantic coast of south Florida, it is difficult to find really good restaurants that are locally owned and put the care and love into their food. My partner and I live and work in Ft. Lauderdale, and we had heard excellent things about Cafe Maxx. I was excited to eat there and had much anticipation, but I never had a chance to eat the food. They open at 5:30, and we had a 5:30 reservation and were the first seated. Others came after us, received their bread baskets and water, started sipping wine and eating appetizers. We got our bread basket, and then nothing else. I had the bottle of wine picked out and our salads and entrees were ready to be ordered, but no one waited on us. I am a very patient person, but at 5:55, we started to feel ignored... The one rule of a hospitality industry is to be hospitable, and they were not. As we were leaving, the proprietor that was present asked what it took to make it right, but he needs to understand that nothing could. I was disappointed and hurt already, so we will never patronize Cafe Maxx again. We were not tourists, so it was an opportunity lost for our continued patronage. I don't know if it is because we are a gay couple, and I really hope it wasn't, but we have been to other places on the coastal roads and have always been waited on. I hope this is a learning experience for the restaurant owners, and I wish them the best. I was really hoping for a good meal.
PS. The restaurant cancelled our Open Table reservation after we left so we couldn't leave a review on that site, but an email has been sent to them as well.
Then we had to order desert since everything had been so tasty and we got the apple tart and AMAZING! Honestly the food at this restaurant has been the best I have ever had it it on my top list of great restaurants. The only downside were the cocktails, these cocktails are straight up liquor
THIS PLACE IS TOPS. GREAT FOR CELEBRATIONS, AS WELL AS CASUAL DINING. I HAVE BEEN GOING THERE FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS AND ALWAYS HAD A DELICIOUS MEAL ALONG WITH GREAT SERVICE!
The service was good but nothing spectacular. We asked for bread that we didnt receive until almost the end of the meal . The bread was brought to the table by another server/runner who tossed it on the table without saying anything. The food also was unremarkable. As a table, we ordered the Mediterranean salad, Grouper, scrimp linguine, and Steak with chimichurri. The only thing worth mentioning is the wine, which was lovely, and the salad. We deferred dessert until we transitioned to our next destination for a nightcap. I would not return or recommend.
Thankful for Cafe Maxx since 1984! Impeccable service & innovative cuisine. All our favorites enjoyed...tuna sashimi pizza, duck smoked ravioli, butternut squash soup, three peppercorn filet, macadamia snapper, Parmesan pork chop, chicken orecchiette pasta. Thank you Chef Oliver & Darrel for another memorable holiday evening
Great filets, we definitely left satisfied. They say it's 8oz but it sure felt like a 12oz!! Service was prompt from Carla, they sat us immediately when we walked in..
Upscale place and out of the ordinary menu. Food is usually really, really good. In quality, preparation and presentation. But the Halibut dish I had was a little too much. Over-exotic. Drenched in a sugary sweet coating. Also kind of dry.
These guys have been a Broward county staple for years. Chef Oliver and Darryl have been owners and operators since day one and their commitment and loyalty to us locals shows in every dish! Staff is just the best. Ron the bartender gives the best wine recommendations and there are tasting events regularly that are such a great value. Keep up the great work guys.
Happy to say Cafe Maxx is in my top 5 favorite restaurants in Broward!!
Went here for Valentine's Day and the food was amazing! Honestly I did not know what to expect because it seemed very small. But 5 stars all the way. Super delicious!!!!
This was the worst restaurant experience I ever had. My husband and family party of six made New Year Eve reservations and when we arrived no one else was in the restaurant, the awful person at the front seated us next to the counter in front of the food. We ask for another table and he said NO. So we left. Literally, whomever he is....owner, employee with no personality....just awful. I would never recommend this restaurant and we eat out allot.
I brought my girlfriend her when she came in town. She liked it. We came for bunch and it was really good. Before that, I've never been here but I think I'll keep coming back because I enjoyed the food. Wonder what they have for dinner.
This little place is a gem. Fantastic menu that is always changing. Creativity in cooking, excellent service, and good atmosphere. Nice place to bring a date.
Came here for my bday. Excellent staff, ambiance and food. Dont have to write much, it s just that simple. Oh yes and you can customize your meal. Got bacon it my Alfredo.
This is by far my favorite restaurant! Every experience I have had here was exceptional! They are always amazing with my dietary needs. I go there for the molten chocolate cake and a glass of wine alone. The service is always amazing. If your looking for a 5 star meal look no further than cafe maxx.
Amazing, beautiful, delicious food. The service was perfect. This is a must is you are in Pompano beach Florida. I would give it 10 stars if I could. Really, this is one restaurant you should not miss.
What an amazing restaurant! This is one of those amazing menu's where you can't decide upon what to order because EVERYTHING looks good. Furthermore, the bar is out of this world in terms of high-end liquors. Bourbon/whiskey fans will be pleasantly surprised.
Amazing restaurants. My husband and I went for brunch and we were delighted. I was able to find vegan options and everything was absolutely delicious. Totally worth it.
Nothing special on the outside , , inside normal decor for user medium class establishment , , , food is well prepared, presented ,portions a little bigger than normal,,,,selection has some unique plates...prices in the upper range of 5 Star Restraunts....no Valet, but parking in front and behind.
Well....incredible food. Beautiful presentation of every plate. Our waitress was the most cheerful lady and she took care of everything....every glass....every plate. Must be a great place to work, everyone at Maxx has a lot of pride and passion. Thank-You.
Blackbird Wine Dinner was amazing!! Each course was perfectly paired and the seating in the wine room was perfect. Met new friends and the conversation was great. Can t wait to go back
Funny. There are places nearby on the water...but this place...with no water view is better. So would rather go here with no view than the other placed with gorgeous water views. Yes it's that good. Fresh seafood to the max. Wonderful staff. Hey, to compete with the places on the water and survive this long they have to be good....and they are.
I'm a CIA graduate. Best restaurant I have found in Fort Lauderdale by far. The food is consistent and seasoned appropriately. I live in Boston but make it point to dine there atleast once a year when I visit my parents. Keep up the amazing work.
Nice restaurant excellent food. Applied for a job working in the back office, completed an interview but I was overqualified for the position and no one asked why I wanted to work there Disappointed that they didn't follow up.
Arrived at Maxx s with a friend to a cozy atmosphere with fresh white table clothes. From the moment we arrived on he service was spot on. We both had Stone Crab with a wonderful mustard sauce. Excellent. The wine list had good with a good selection of Italian Reds which made me happy. They have been in business for 36 years and I can see why. This was my first time and I will definitely go back and recommend this restaurant to my friends .
First time dining at Cafe Maxx and it was an absolute delight. From the apps to the entree to the desert. Everything was prepared perfectly. I did not get a chance to enjoy the vast wine selection but the staff is very knowledgable and can pair the perfect wine with your meal. Price is what you would expect for fine dining and worth every penny. Actually very affordable for the quality of meal and service you will receive. Menu changes day to day and the chef is second to none. Definitely a spot to come to. Opens at 5pm and be sure to call ahead for reserved seating as this place is known to serve parties of 30+.
Thanksgiving Dinner! All covid protocols in place inside & outside. Thankful for Cafe Maxx since 1984! Impeccable service & innovative cuisine. All our favorites enjoyed...tuna sashimi pizza, duck smoked ravioli, butternut squash soup, three peppercorn filet, macadamia snapper, Parmesan pork chop, chicken orecchiette pasta. Not Happy With The Service My Order Was Messed Up. Incorrect Had To Ask Three Times For Three Items I Didn't Get. All Young People Serving. Would Not Go Again. SORRY.
Living nearby, we are familiar with this gem of a restaurant in Pompano, and have frequented it in the past.
So much so that, this is where my wife and I came right after we were married on the beach near here several years ago.
We arrived 10 min early for our 7:30 reservation, and we're immediately seated. Then it took our server almost 15 minutes before he showed up at out table. He then brought us water took our drink order, and it was almost another 20 min before our drinks arrived.
My wife ordered the short ribs, which were AMAZING !!!.... I ordered the Pheasant which was under cooked.
Ate here with wife and another couple. We decided to share all our food. There was not one thing that I did not like. My faves we're the duck ravioli and sushemi plate. I cannot wait to eat here again.

Wonderful, romantic restaurant with a quaint feel. This is a place where care of ingredients and preparation are obvious once the food arrives. Contemporary menu with a French, American twist. Fresh seafood and chops make this place a hit for anyone. Great for date night.
Quality on a par with Capitol Grill in a smaller cozier setting but just as elegant. Seafood and meats proudly displayed in a refrigerated glass case. A little pricey but well worth it.
