Have been here a few times and each and every time, every staff member has made me, my mom, and my girlfriend feel like royalty. Extremely romantic atmosphere, comfortable seating, food is Michelin rated and rightfully so. You never have to ask for water, salt/pepper/sweetener...One of, if not THE most amazing restaurant I've ever been too. The River Cafe is truly magical. It's the type of place that you go to when you really want that something extra special...but the ultimate test...this is the place you go to with the love of your life.
Always a favorite. Amazing location under the Brooklyn Bridge views of Manhattan water taxis and the Brooklyn Pier. 5 Star service level..pre fixe menu never disappoints. Would not recommend for children (dinner) . Dress men jackets... women dressy.
This place definitely has the most beautiful view and atmosphere. Food / service was great. I had chosen this place as a special occasion for me to propose to my girlfriend. Definitely a good choice, but I got to admit it's quite pricey. So prepare yourself
Went to the river cafe for my partners birthday and it was amazing. The location was fantastic with brilliant views of Manhattan as well as being under the Brooklyn bridge. The staff were super attentive and the food was the best I have ever had. Dress code is strict so for men wear smart trousers, shirt, blazer and sensible shoes. It is pricey but for a memorable special experience would defo recommend
Amazing service, excellent drinks, food not that good and yep, really expensive, but the view, is out of this world
Wonderful river and Manhattan views. Great food and service.
Decor starting to appear a bit dated.
Pricing a bit high.
Can't get better anywhere. Service, location and quality of food. In a class of its own. Made our family of four feel special and important. Thanks River Cafe!
An excellent experience all round. Food, drinks, and service. Plus the wonderful views of the Manhattan skyline.
My girlfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day. (Celebrated Saturday instead of Friday, so we received the regular menu and missed all the craziness). Upon arriving at the entrance, there are two double doors, one right after another and a member of the River Cafe is assigned to each door. We did not open any doors anywhere we went.........besides the bathroom doors . We were greeted and the doors opened for us. We were met with a lady who asked for our reservations. With the confirmation, again, two members of the River Cafe opened the doors for us to let us onto the Cafe which actually seemeds to sit on the water. Our table was not yet ready and we were told we could wait at the bar and it should only take a few minutes. While at the bar, we realized the bartenders are a class act. I initially wasn't going to order a drink but thought, with this view, hospitality, and charisma, I'll get a Mojito. The Mojito took a couple mintues to make, which at first I didn't quite comprehend until I observed the care that went into making my drink. Not bad I thought, this was far and away a better service than most Manahattan bars and I might actually feel ok paying $20 for one drink. I had a taste and just wow. Best Mojito I've ever had. Literally benchmark perfect. Our table was ready as the drink came out and the staff carried my drink to my table so I wouldn't be burden by carrying the drink.....a new type of service I'm not accustom to. We were seated next to each other, another first for us. There was this....lamp with the cord that came in between us. If I could give a 4.9 rating I would because that did detract from the experience. I suggest a battery powered lamp? I understand the classic touch of elegance but we had to shimmy away and push the table out of the way to get in and out. Minor inconvenience really. We ordered from the prixe fix menu and just had waters with our meal. We recieved bread from the server who let us pick which bread we wanted. The bread was quite good. As a small appetizer, there was a........and forgive me here as I can never catch the full description........a fish rissoto, wrapped, with caviar on top, cucumbers, and a sweet sauce. Very good. Really only 1 or 2 bites but the flavors are impactful. I ordered the Smoked Salmon appetizer which was stuffed with potatoes. A cold dish, great presentation, although I don't think the cold salmon and potatoes worked quite as well as I hoped. Still very good but my girlfriend's appetizer was top notch. She order the Gnudi and Trufflez and it was stunning. The flavor of truffle was good and the ravioli was shockingly soft. The cheese was a kick of flavor. Amazing. As an entree, I chose the lobster. Lobster was perfect, the chips and lobster circles were covered in pineapple sauce. Really, really good. Flavors worked very well. My girlfriend got Niman Ranch Strip Steak with masked potatoes in the bone marrow. Steak was cooked well. Very good option with potatoes in the bone marrow being the clear winner of the plate. For dessert, I got their iconic chocolate Brooklyn Bridge. Really cool and the coconut sorbet with powder was the most amazing dessert I might have had to date. Very good. My girlfriend's option was quite good as well, she ordered the Semifreddo. We then had four little treats which were a great way to end the mela. Service and food was top notch. Worth the Michelin star? Yes, definitely. If you come in for a meal, I recommend selecting the ravioli appetizer, steak for meat lover and lobster for seafood, and the bridge for dessert.
The River Cafe is always a must stop for me when I come to NYC to visit family. It has never disappointed me. Today was exceptional. Staff was attentive and the food was superb. I had Wagyu Pastrami with sunny side up eggs. The eggs were perfect and the pastrami was flavorful and tender. My wife had the smoked salmon and said it was so tender it almost melted on her tongue. We cannot say enough good things.
Enjoyed every second I spent there, Food is the people are incredible loved it.
I came here close to Valentine's day with my girlfriend. I had to make a reservation 2 months in advance because the place gets booked up as we approach February. Driving into the place you feel like you are leaving the busy streets of Brooklyn and going into a forest. The service is superb from the moment that you walk into the place. The food is excellent and the portions are what you would expect from a restaurant like this. Definitely a go-to place for special occasions.
Amazing!!! The place it self is located in a very nice location . The view in some of the tables is beautiful. The food IS INCOMPARABLE OMG, is so delicious. Yes the portions are very small, but we all know the small the place the better taste it is . Good services and nice and classy restaurant.
The food was excellent and the view can't be surpassed
My girlfriend and I were visiting our friends near by and before we head home, we were wanting to stop by and get a couple drinks at the bar. The valet let us in despite the dress code policy which we weren t aware of because of which we were denied entry by the sommelier at the front desk. I understand the dress code rules but what was disappointing was that I was even denied to use the restroom before we stepped out into the frigid weather. It s a shame that this kind of behavior is supported and goes by without a check since the manager could care less by not showing up even when requested for. No restroom policies were or moral code at this restaurant!
The best restaurant I've been to anywhere in the world. The location and view are incredible. The flowers throughout the restaurant are amazing. The service is absolutely superb from when you walk in until when you walk out. The food is unbelievable and the wine list is impressive, and includes some budget friendly options. This is an expensive restaurant but I do not regret a single penny I have spent here. It is absolutely worth it!
We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary for the lunch menu. The decors is beautiful. The service was great and food was simply amazing. They have incredible appetizer.
My girlfriend took me here for my birthday. Everything was phenomenal. Really fancy and romantic but also nice with a group of friends.
The River Cafe is beautiful. Staff was on point! Atmosphere to die for. The food was beautifully prepared, fresh and delicious! Treat yourself. Its worth every dollar!$$$$
Day of Marriage Proposal... Christmas
Location: Under the Brooklyn Bridge about a 5min walk from Jane's Carousel (great romantic pre or post date spot). Cab ride was riddled with traffic jams the whole way but I left far in advance. This restaurant sits directly on the East River with a beautiful view of Manhattan. Once you arrive you pass through a gate and garden that makes you feel that you have just left the city and have entered a place of comfort and good vibrations.
The Reservation: I called a month ahead to get in for Christmas day. I was vigilant in calling exactly one month ahead on the time that the restaurant opened. I had to sign a restaurant contract and put a card on file. I requested a window seat as I did some research and let them know I would be engaged at the point of our arrival. It was a prix fixe menu at $165 a person excluding drinks/gratuity and tax. Completely worth it.
Menu: I know foody, but can't say I am one. I am a dilettante at this point in my life, but I do have a deep appreciation for culinary talent and artistic application. This was the best meal, hands down, I have ever had. I began with caviar, then the scallops and cauliflower, for the main course I opted for the lamb medium-rare and for dessert there was a plate of each to select from. Words can't appropriately do justice for how perfectly prepared my meal was as well as parallel in appeasement.
The experience: You have to check anything outside of your suit jacket. At this time I had some relatively expensive jewelry in my jacket and it created an odd start as I had to stall time and get all valuables out without my fiance's knowledge. The coat checker was understanding and I got the necklace out of my jacket. After sitting down at a window seat with my beautiful life love I had no choice but to offer her the necklace. This began a beautiful conversation about our love and future together. All with the skyline of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty afar to keep us company. The meal was well paced and was about 2 hours from seating to leaving.
Conclusion: I would never have chosen another place for Christmas dinner after having a meal like that. Completely perfect and beautiful. I would gladly rate it 6 stars.
Fantastic restaurant. It has the best views of Manhattan. We went at lunch time. The place was very busy but the service was prompt and the staff were lovely. Beautiful food. Every mouth was a delight. The pianist played all afternoon. Absolute must visit when in New York but you need to book way in advance.
Had 2 course brunch. Good food with amazing view. Courteous staff.
I went for my hubby s bday! He loved it. I also told them in advance that it is a surprise and if they can blow a candle for him. They very pleasantly served really delicious dessert with a candle and wishings. It was a very sweet gesture.
Overall, it is a great place for special events. It is a bit pricey but worth a try!
We went to celebrate our anniversary, and everything was very beautiful and delicious, we enjoyed our dinner and they made sure it was very special. It is a place to go on a special day it is a bit expensive but it was worth it! Customer service GREAT.
Very Romantic & Stunning view!
We discovered this place years back, when John & Yoko frequented this restaurant. We recently returned for our anniversary- and while it is expensive- it is everything I remember- the excellent service, the dining experience is above par with other NYC spots. The view speaks for itself and our dinner and wine exceeded our expectations. Complimentary dessert was chocolate shape of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Reservations & jackets for men required. Arrive early to enjoy it all and take photos. Big time favorite of mine- holds great memories.
Over rated place. Okay food, crammed up chairs and tables, average service. Highly overpriced.
Being French, I was expecting more from Michelin rating. The price is definitely Michelin but not the food. You pay for the view which is unforgettable so being priceless, right ! The food is good but not exceptional for the price. Sides are even low in quality and tasting (over cooked gratin). They want to get sophisticated with mandatory suit jacket (they can loan you) but they miss the most important....the way you serve dishes...you serve on the side of the guests NOT holding across the table bending over another guest. It s rude and unsophisticated. You get that in a sport bar! Also, dishes are not when served. Conclusion: go for the view and having an expensive dinner but don t expect the food quality for the $$$$$ in your plate.
Wonderful location, very good service, high price, sufficient food quality
Premium food, service and price. Choice of prix fixe or tasting menu. Views across the east river, live piano, boat interior a great memory. Food is incredible!
Amazing attention and location!!!! Reservations are suggested. Formal attire.
And money of course...
This is a fancy place, but a really good one.
The greetings, the attention, the politeness, everything on point.
Yes is pricey but like I said, the view, the service and the food were amazing!!
A place you definitely want to go and enjoy with your friends or family.
Live piano concert, beautiful decorations, clean bathrooms, nothing to complain.
Believe me when I say, IT'S WORTHY!
And yes, the flowers are real.
Great views of the water and bridge. Classic dinning. I ordered the duck and was very pleased with the whole experience.
The food was very good, but the service horrible. We repeatedly asked for a table by the window, the staff insisted that the available table was already committed to someone else - it turned out it was someone who came after us. When we said we could wait longer to get the table that was important to us, he said we could move half way through, but despite of 3 tables becoming available, and ine staying empty for the entire meal time, he did not bother to move us. I guess you need to bribe him to have him heat what you say. It was our anniversary and we booked well in advance, so I am really disappointed about the way we have been treated. On top of that they added 18% tip to the bill without even asking us which after the way we were treated is just a robbery. Very unhappy with this experience.
Beautiful view and location.
when booking the reservation, I was placed on a wait list and the dress code was emphasized. I was later called and advised there was an opening.
When I arrived, valet ran out to advise I couldn t park there assuming I wasn t a customer. What a way to set the tone for the experience.
When walking in, there were two gentlemen in construction attire sitting in the booths. What happen to the dress code?! There was also 7 tables available. Was the wait list a gimmick?!
The mushroom Wellington was over cooked and too dry. The mashed potatoes didn t have any flavor.
Overall, mediocre experience and probably my first and last visit.
I love this place! This restaurant is such an amazing experience! The food is unbelievably delicious, even if you are vegetarian, which was such a pleasant surprise. Definitely a place for special occasions because it is formal and pricey but definitely worth going to at least once in your life!
Cant sing the praises loud enough for this icon on the river. Especially nice was the maitre d' Josh Brown, who gave us a window seat for my birthday. Food and service were old school attentive.
Such a beautiful restaurant with outstanding service. The food is incredible but the service is top notch. A little pricey though but it makes u feel like you ve traveled somewhere else and came back
One of the best stakes that i have tried in a long time. My friends showed me this restaurant and now it is one of my favorite places. The view from there is amazing. All of the food is really good and the customer service is great. The price is a bit high but still is worth it.
Best NY striploin I've ever had. Service was top notch, and the views are stunning.
To explain the Title I have to say that our reservation was at 20:30 and due to a transportation problem we were arriving late. We called the Restaurant and they told us that they could hold the table for 15 minutes. We were 45 minutes delayed...when we arrived, really disappointed they received us with a smile and they told us not to be worried, they still had our table, just a few minutes waiting...when after no more than 10 minutes waiting they gave us our table the Maitre whispered us bad things happened always for a good reason while he was sitting us on a window table with an incredible view to Manhattan. Amazing service, incredible food and really and incredible atmosphere...thank you very much to everyone related with our romantic dinner last Saturday. Employees like those make the difference. Congratulations.
Thank you for an incredible night on my wife and I's ruby wedding.visiting our son and daughter in law from the UK. staff brilliant, food brilliant.10 out of 10 xx
Good, staff and atmosphere is everything you'd expect. Great views of Manhattan, amazing food and friendly staff.
Cool place, that can get very crowded sometime. But it is still worth a visit. Relaxed. nice people, and very nice vibe. Love it when it is not too full. Always like their customer service.
Food was phenomenal. Caviar was exceptional and very generous portions for all three courses. The only disappointment was a presumptuous (and hefty!) tip automatically added to our final cheque. I understand how the tipping system works but I found this a massive turn off to end our night.
Lives up to it's remarkable 40-year reputation. Go for the view, return for the meal. Wine selection is outstanding.
stunning view looking out Manhattan, very romantic to watch the sun set while having dinner. Great food, great service. Will come back
Amazing Experience!
Live Piano Music , excellent service , they were super nice and help us trough the menu to decide what to choose .The food was more than delicious !! wow and the view was the cherry on top . Perfect place to have a special night
It's a great place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary! The 3 course meal is unique and delicious
This place was perfect. The staff was professional, attentive, soft spoken, informative, and used gender-neutral pronouns for me (I'm Trans). This was an incredible experience and we plan to make it an annual trip.
Exceptional service. Gorgeous mountains of fresh cut flowers. They were accommodating when we were tardy for our breakfast reservation due to a sprained ankle. Food and ambiance were well worth it for their weekday breakfast offering.
Fabulous meal that wasn t overly long or stuffy. The food was top notch and rather creative and while pricey, you do get what you pay for. Awesome for a special occasion, I highly recommend taking the ferry here to really complete the NYC experience.
Brunch Review- Prix Fixe two course (more like three course) brunch at River Cafe. Very delicious and portion for the App and Main are generous.
Note: they do call to confirm, so even if you confirm on open table still have to have the voice call.
Outstanding cuisine and nice atmosphere. We were there for a brunch, and enjoyed every moment. Nice set of the cocktails, wide selection of the vine.
5 stars great location, amazing food and excellent service a must visit place
Great service, great view, great atmosphere. Just showed up without reservation so I stayed at the bar. Unfortunately they do not allow you to order food at the bar, so only got to order a glass of wine. Which was great. They gave a small snack at the bar of candied almonds & some cracker thins. Good stuff. Really enjoyed walking around the garden area outside of the restaurant, as well as soaking in the beautiful city views from across the river!!!
I Love this place wonderful place and amazing food and the service is great.
Service was great. Everybody was very attentive. And really loved and apriciate my wife birthday petit fours tray. Amazing. Thanks you a lot.
Food is amazing, service is fantastic, great atmosphere and beautiful water front view!!!!
Amazing place, great food, wonderful service and a fantastic view of the Brooklyn Bridge and lower Manhattan.
I had so much hope for this institution...
The food was average to bad. Service was ok but not super friendly. I guess this is what an American audience thought a fancy restaurant would look like 40 years so.
There are so many cheaper restaurants in the city that are way better.
Very very disappointed :-(
The River Cafe is a must for a family outing or a romantic night out. The views are breathtaking get reservations & seating facing the Manhattan waterfront & skyline; to the East will provide views of the Brooklyn Bridge. The food is great along with an unmatched ambiance, service, and unmatched views. This place is in the top ten of places to go in Brooklyn, NYC. Upper class dining on steroids!
We had a great easter brunch at the venue - enjoyed the view at the window table - also the service was friendly and guest oriented!
Over rated place. Okay food, crammed up chairs and tables, average service. Highly overpriced.
The food is good.
The service is good, as long as you're willing to wait a while for deserts or the check.
But after 4 years of going there, dozens of time, we still never got a table next to the window. Always in the back.
The River Cafe serves the best Christmas dinner anyone in our family has had, and we have been to some top drawer Christmas dinners at other NYC establishments.
The team and service really stands out; the staff is uniquely accommodating, caring, polite, and also helpful with recommendations.
The food is INCREDIBLE. Every single different appetizer and main was judged by our party to be world class and everyone thought they had out ordered everyone else.
We will desperately try to have every Christmas dinner here going forward, but goodness knows it will be tough. I suppose we will have to settle for more routine visits.
the service is second to none, beautiful location - go on a sunny day or in the evening for the best experience, breakfast was pricey but worth if for the staff and venue
We had a gift card for this restaurant and booked a table via a third party seating app, which didn't mention anything about the dress code. Turns out our smart casual attire on the day we showed up wasn't good enough to get us in. The receptionists didn't turn us away, but offered a selection of coats to complete our attire. We walked inside and were instantly treated like pariah by the head wait staff. When we asked to be moved to a table by the window, he smugly refused, because it's only for 'appropriately dressed' guests. That really ruined it for us. We were so looking forward to a dinner with a view.
The rest of the wait staff were pleasant and attentive, and the food was delicious, though not exceptional. We ended our meal with a surprise treat they gave us in celebration of our anniversary. After the hefty value in our gift card was applied to the bill, we still had to pay almost $300.
Pretty sure we won't be back. We're not the dress-to-the-nines type, and in fact shun the pretentiousness of it all. I understand that they can set and enforce all the rules they want and appreciate the gesture of the receptionists to make us look 'presentable'. But if you're a restaurant that calls yourself a 'cafe' and is housed in an average-looking boat without any historic or cultural significance, that specific rule really sounds ridiculous.
Absolutely lovely! Who know this hidden treasure was right here in Brooklyn! When we turned into the driveway I felt like my husband had swept me into a fairytale! Service is phenomenal! I will certainly surprise him and anniversary lunch here in the future. I couldn't have been more pleased.
I had dinner and brunch at this restaurant, dinners goes for about $150 something per person and brunch $67 per person without drinks. This restaurant is by the water I highly suggest to ask for a table by the window where you can see the city. The food is without doubt high quality and the service is excellent, they do get out of their way to make their customers happy. They have a parking lot and a beautiful park outside the restaurant.
Came to learn about this place from a show I was watching on Netflix. Took my wife here for our Anniversary. Food was excellent. Service was very, very good. The scenary was excellent. Will come back again.
thanks for amazing staff, food drinks and over all everything was Top Quality I saved this to my MUST GO places
About a week ago I hosted my father's 100th birthday party at the River Cafe. It was a glorious day in this beautiful venue. But the best part was the staff who work there. From the event planner who made the planning process easy and flawless to the Maitre D' and the servers, everyone was just lovely. Polite and friendly. (Not stone faced and serious, as you see at some fancy restaurants.) They seemed to actually enjoy working dad's party. The River Cafe also provided a list of vendors. The AV person was great and the florist was exceptional. And both worked within our budget. It goes without saying that the food was exceptional. Something delicious for everyone including the vegetarians. And everyday another friend or relative texts or emails me to say what a wonderful event it was and how great the River Cafe was. Mom turns 100 in 4 years! Fingers crossed we'll be back!
Excellent hospitality, great food and amazing views. A classic NYC experience. Could be 5 starts if it were slightly better priced, our bill was 800 dollars for 4 people.
I've attended several events here. The staff and location are prime but everything else is average. Food and drinks this expensive you would expect it to be exceptional.
Excellent hospitality, great food and amazing views. A classic NYC experience. Could be 5 starts if it were slightly better priced, our bill was 800 dollars for 4 people.
Don't come here if you want to enjoy your food! My friends and I went to celebrate her birthday on a Tuesday night. The Garden, the view and the water there is breathtaking. The service is kinda weird they're nice but the waiters are on top of you, the water boy is very attentive. If you like bland and tasteless food this is the restaurant for you. Their menu doesn't have much of a variety and you're practically wasting your money. Take pictures there and go across the street to shakeshack to eat.
The most beautiful restaurant in Brooklyn.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary with a culinary breakfast at this breath taking restaurant and it was exceptional. The waterside view of the Hudson is mesmerizing during the morning hours-- I can only imagine the night experience of the Manhattan skyline. When you walk into the restaurant you're greeted with the scent of fresh flowers, a soothing waterfall and vibrant plants. The host was incredibly kind. The food presentation and quality was superb. The service was top rate. Please understand the quality of food, service and ambiance all come at a high price range but all worth it for that special, enhancing experience.
We went for dinner and although we had a tight seat and didn't get the window seats, the view of what we had was still lovely - seeing the city in twilight then the skyline glimmer with the lights.
Food was amazing too. I had the oysters and shellfish starter. Loved it! Would order the same thing again. Had fish for main which was nice, but I saw the next table get a meat dish which looked better. Dessert I had a pistachio one which was heavenly. Would have that one again. We also ordered the Brooklyn bridge chocolate desert which was cool - great if you are visiting new york as it looked like a pretty (and tasty) souvenir on a plate!
Outside of the restaurant is this beautiful little garden area where you can view the Manhattan skyline. Here at night with the fairy lights on make the whole setting very romantic too.
Very expensive like to the point of insanely expensive, however, the food is delicious and the staff are incredibly attentive. No rush to get you out, fantastic views!
Surprise proposal captured by Renee K Productions photography!
The service was spot on and the food was good.
The views are absolutely stunning. This restaurant is perfect for celebrating birthdays or anniversaries.
This spot knows how to satisfy their clients. Always with a very nice approach. The food is affordably priced, constantly flavorful and clean.
Very 1st experience of dining at a michelin star resteaurant...service,food,location,attention to detail all impecable well done..
Everything about our experience at this restaurant was excellent. The staff were extremely kind and helpful, the view was brilliant, and the food was great. After finding a minor imperfection in one of our second course meal dishes, the staff apologized and brought everyone at our table an additional course. We all enjoyed our time here and hope to return when we are back in New York!
I previously dined here roughly two months ago, but forgot to leave a review.
Gorgeous setting, amazing food, and extremely attentive service. A beautiful location for celebrating!
I had a fantastic experience here! First of all, the ambiance is incredible. When we first got the the dining room, there was a wait to be seated, so we decided to go to the outdoor space they had on the water. We took pictures there with Manhattan in the background, which I would certainly recommend doing. Eventually, we were seated and brought a complimentary appetizer to hold us over until our first course arrived. I ended up having the buffalo ravioli as my first course, and it turned out great! The mushrooms that were paired with the ravioli were really good as well. For my main course, I had the steak. Lucky for me, the steak was 12 oz. which is huge, and it was also cooked perfectly and tasted great. I would definitely recommend the steak to anyone who plans on coming here. For my dessert I had the chocolate cake, and my friend had the guava goat cheese cheesecake. As much as I loved the cake, and the Brooklyn Bridge that came with it, I think I favored the guava cheesecake. Overall, the service was pretty good, too. If you do end up going, I d recommend taking pictures in the garden out front, as well as on their dock; they won t let you down! As a side note, I must mention that they do have a jacket requirement for the gentlemen in the dining room. If you forget to bring one, I believe they will loan you one for the night though.
Cannot say enough about the food, atmosphere or service. All just impeccable! Pricy but worth it if you are celebrating a special occasion.
