This place has surprisingly good Indian food. The patio is also amazing, but it can get a little smoky from cigs. Hipster bar where you will probably find insustry people in their twenties mixed with 30 somethings reading a book or drawing.

Very disappointed, went with my partner and his co-workers; I went to order him his third drink of the evening and the bartender had the audacity to beg for a tip telling me that it's complimentary that people usually tip at bars and restauraunts. Thanks for the advice but I don't tip people that rudely suggest that I give them a tip, I give one if I feel necessary.

A+ service from a neighborhood bar! I really enjoy the back patio year-round. It's covered and has heat lamps. The patio tables can get a little busy so if you want a spot I recommend arriving early. Staff and service is always impeccable. This place is going to get my business for the foreseeable future!

Stinky health hazard mold grows wildly inside there. Service trips hella hard off on the ID thing right when i walk in the joint #lackingmanners. Also, for a trendy bar, full of hipsters and stinky wet dog smell, you would think they would finally step it up and except cards and not just take cash. #onlycashhipstersandstinkybutt allowed.

Very awesomely divey. Great imperial pint deals, great out-front seating with umbrellas. Even better put back enclosed and heated out-back seating. I hear the curry is great, and sometimes vegan, but don't know myself.

Laid back vibes, board games, a dirt cheap happy hour, solid cocktails, a great back porch, and the spot regularly plays top notch soul tunes on the system. My new favorite bar in Portland.

Great spot to hang with some friends and relax. Chose between sidewalk tables or inside tables. I believe patio in back is very nice but we did not venture there on this trip. The bar is not buillt into a deep dark hole as the name implies, but rather is just a couple steps down from street level.

This is my go to spot in my neighborhood, bar tenders are always nice. Beer is cold. Happy Hour beers are 20 oz. They play great music. Great patio out back and some seating outside in the front as well. No matter how many people are in the pub, never wait long to grab another drink. They have a bunch of board game as well.

STRONG mold smell assaults you the moment you enter. How this place hasn't been shut down by health inspectors is far beyond me. It's literally in a basement and does not have a proper dehumidifier. When we went there was condensation running down the walls and again, serious mold smell. We lasted less than 30 seconds. The stench was too much, not to mention breathing in humid mold air is dangerous for your health. The building probably wouldn't even pass inspection to sell it.

Nice.

One word describes this place: dark.

One word describes this place: dark.

The bar is built into a historic extension of an old vintage Portland home's basement storefront - gives it a strange underground vibe similar to the basement of the Goodfoot (except no ugly carpet).

Other than that, a typical Portland "neu-dive" bar, filled with your typical assortment of younger Portlanders drinking beer. Good fallback spot if Roadside is too full. They also take cards, which is a big deal if you're going to Roadside. I don't recommend the food at all, but had a good assortment of beer and pinball machines - not to mention board games, which can be a lot of fun!

A dimly-lit, cozy atmosphere. Service was decent, drinks were generously poured, the "pints" were huge, and all decently priced. They have a covered, heated patio in back filled with bench seating, which is probably the best part of the bar. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a place with a dive vibe without dive service/clientele.

solid.

The Basement has location going for it. Close to Roadside, and uphill stumbling distance from the Jolly, it is a perfect spot for a true crawl between Belmont and Hawthorne.

The place isn't as divey as it may seem, and sometimes feels more homey than the hipster feel you can sometimes get at Roadside. They also take plastic, which is a huge plus.

Parking is a problem on weekends, but if you ride a bike, this is the area to ride/crawl in, just remember, they'll give a cyclist a DUII.

Basement has a great back patio, good beer selection and is always playing music I like. What more do you need in a bar?! Bartenders are friendly and you can tell they care about their jobs. This is a great place for a regular get together with your friends.

I Like this place. Another friend and I stopped for an after work beer, little tiny place in the middle of a neighborhood. Stepped out the back door and there's a real nice large enclosed patio.

I used to come here with coworkers after a long day at work, and loved it! It's simple, has a nice patio, good selection of beers and cider, and good prices. I only wish I still worked close by, because I miss it!
