Great time for young and old. Admission is a $5 donation but definitely worth it for the education. Make sure you stay for the petting pool. Where you can see and touch sea creatures. This is a basic aquarium no flashy video or shows but very genuine.

I love this place. The aquarium is bigger than I thought it would be. This place operates on donations. Suggested for adults entrance is only $5. Make sure to donate a little more. Help the research and upkeep of this gem by the ocean.

This makes for a great field trip for kids, family, and friends. Unfortunately your own pets are not allowed so they have to stay either in the car or at home. I would encourage everyone to visit this aquarium based off of the indigenous animals and wildlife that inhabits it surroundings. It's a great overall experience. Plenty of parking it's easy to find and see from the street. There's not a lot of money that needs to go in to this trip.

Really fun place to go and learn about our sea life, fun and interactive place for children, you do have to pay for parking, but its close to the street so if you dont mind walking a bit you can save some money. Got to touch a starfish as well as got to see some jelley fishes. The only bad thing about this place is that is quite small but on the upside entrance is FREE, and is really close to the beach.

As far as an aquarium goes, the cabrillo is a great place especially for my son as i like to take him and its great that its free as i can go there when i am on walks and its the best thing if youre looking to take a stroll or if you want to just look at the fish and other sea critters they have. The gift shop they have is great as the snacks are fairly priced so getting one after you tour the place is a great way to finish it off. The staff is great and the little things they have to teach you about the animals and their habitats are great and i would definitely go here again as i already have

An absolutely great aquarium to visit. There is a tide pool touching show a few times a day. The active research done by the aquarium's biologists are presented openly.

I completely recommend!!

I love this place! A little free gem at a beach forgotten by most. Start your day by checking the tide charts and go at low tide. The staff can tell you how to walk to the tide pools along the cliffs. Enjoy nature naturally (wear appropriate shoes) and then go inside and learn about what you saw.
Cabrillo has a live education/teaching lab now too and we had the opportunity to interact with very sharp high schoolers tending to their experiments.
If you can, check out a Grunion Run. Great late night fun watching fish spawn in the sand.

There is also a live tide pool touch tank that opens on a schedule so either plan ahead or be flexible.
Bring a picnic to enjoy at the beach and make a day of learning and wonder.
Great staff who are almost all volunteer!

My wife and I took our three month old son last weekend. We didn't expect much from our son since he is so young, but we did see interest in our sons eyes. His favorite exhibit was the ceiling lights:) the staff was amazing as well. I'm glad I have the chance to pass on the experience of the academy of science to my son and more generations to come.

We didn't get to go to the aquarium, but the beach directly in front of it (bay side) was closed due to bacteria in the water. The beach on the non Bay side was good though, and we saw a dolphin pod. Not a sea shell collecting beach, though.

This is a cool little spot for what it is: a FREE aquarium (donation strongly suggested). If you are expecting the Aquarium of the Pacific, turn around and head to Long Beach. Give a donation. This place stays open on donations and the goodwill of volunteers. Cool exhibits and touch tanks make this a worthwhile destination if you find yourself in San Pedro. The whole aquarium + gift shop takes 2 hrs or less. Enjoy!
