My husband and I purchased a condo in Middleton in 2018. Our unit is one of 3 attached dwellings that just touched the edge of the flood zone in the Pheasant Branch Conservancy. As we have a small mortgage, the bank required that we purchase a flood insurance policy. It was a hefty premium.
The only way we could eliminate the flood policy was to show FEMA (the federal flood people) that our house was elevated high enough to be outside of flood risk. It was our good fortune to discover Burse Surveying and Engineering. Michelle Burse knew exactly what was required to satisfy the mounds of FEMA paperwork. Her associates needed to return to our property twice as the Elevation Certificate had to include the 2 adjoining condos in our building structure. There were signatures needed from officials in the City of Middleton too. Michele knew just how to cut through all this paperwork like a hot knife through butter.
In fact, one of the City of Middleton officials complimented our paperwork, saying it was the most complete form she'd ever signed on behalf of the City for this type of assignment.
We were thrilled by the results (quick approval from FEMA because of the thoroughness of the application) and we feel the fee was very reasonable. No more flood insurance for us, thanks to the excellent work of Burse Surveying and Engineering's preparation of this Elevation Certificate. As I'm also a real estate broker, I'll be sharing Burse's contact information with my associates and clients.

Burse actually did not do the survey on our home. We had it done by another company no longer in business and lost our copy of the survey. Burse was the only company that offered to send us a copy of the survey already done and they didn't charge us a penny! I got the email with the copy within 5 minutes. It's rare to find this kind of service, especially when we were actually not customers. They could have told me where to get it myself. But they went the extra mile for us, getting us out of a real pickle.
