Beautiful distillery in Frankfort. Joe in the gift shop went out of his way to provide service & information. Theresa hosted a great tasting. Kids & adults enjoyed tour.
Adults enjoyed tasting ; ) We will be going back for more tours.

Second distillery I had been to...location is lovely and the tour (a little over an hour) was good and free. Bourbon tastings after the tour were also complementary - the bourbon cream is amazing! They had a very nice visitor center/shop and this was a great experience. I can definitely recommend it.

My first visit to this distillery was at 7 o'clock at night for the ghost tour. I was so intrigued by the buildings which I could barely see (because it was dark) that I came back the next day for more. Not for more bourbon.... Turns out I don't even like bourbon.... But this distillery is just so gorgeous! I just love the old buildings and the atmosphere. My second visit I took the trace tour. I'm actually tempted to go back again and leisurely wander the grounds. As another reviewer mentioned, it is incredibly generous of the distillery to offer the tour and tasting for free. I think they even mentioned that they were the only local distillery not to charge a fee. Kudos to them!! All the more reason to support a fantastic company.

This was my first time here and I will be going back. The tours start very quickly and often. I do think they offer more then one tour. Parking was easy. We walked into the gift shop and a tour was starting as we walked in, so we were told just to join them. I won't talk about the tour. You should experience that for your self. Afterwords there is a tasting. When we got done with the tour we went over to the firehouse on the property to eat lunch. The Firehouse also was a good experience. Last, we took a walk around the property and looked at all the historical sites. Like I said I will be back to learn more about the property and hopefully see more of the grounds. A few hours won't cover everything to see.

Just went to Buffalo Trace and they are taking keep us safe , very serious. They understand what it takes to follow the guidelines and even go way beyond. I am in the high vulnerable group and felt extremely safe. Great job

A wonderful experience! Our guide was personable, funny, and read his crowd well. The tour we took was interesting, engaging, and immersive. You could smell the different types of alcohol in the air, and the historical quality of the distillery was abundant.

To make it even better, I was shocked to learn that the tour and tasting is free! They also provide a 20% discount on non-alcoholic merchandise.

Well worth a visit. Free hourly tours with great guides and seriously interesting information about the history of bourbon in Kentucky. Generous tastings after the tour. Large gift shop with wide assortment of products. You need 2 to 3 hours for the tour and visit. Plenty of on site parking. Wear comfortable shoes for walking the grounds.

Great time! Amazing how many people where there just to get the chance to pickup some . Now we have to wait 3 more months before we can visit again! Maybe we will get lucky and score some EHT! I HOPE!

An Amazing Distillery with a long history pre-dating Kentucky and even the United States. Buffalo trace is a living history. A beautiful monument to the art corn mash fermentation, distillation and oak barrel aging. Come see how the Ordovician Karst ground waters of central Kentucky are transformed into some of the most revered and sought after Bourbons of the world.

Very very cool tour and we got the pleasure of being led by Freddie. He is a 3rd generation Buffalo Trace employee, and knew tons about the history and heritage of the brand. We toured the grounds, and watched a video, then had a tasting. They have some good stuff, but we actually liked their regular brand offering as opposed to their "premium". If you go, ask to have a tour with Freddie. It's worth it.

Was able to join a "ghost" tour of the distillery on a Friday evening. The distillery was decorated with Christmas lights and was beautiful. We were lucky to get to see active bottling of Blanton's and partake in the samples. The ghost aspect is a little of a stretch, but adds some flare to the history. I've previously been on a "hard hat" tour and highly recommend it if you have the time!

This was a great way to spend time in Frankfort. The tour was interesting, fun and free. Our Guide, Freddie looked familiar because we saw him on the bourbon documentary Heat. The grounds are beautiful, the history rich and the bourbon top shelf! Thank you Buffalo Trace!

I wanted to get in at least one Distillery tour while in the area, while my wife is a photographer and was interested in taking pictures. The only tour we could make was the ghost tour, but it turned out to be fun and still covered the basics of bourbon while providing an interesting history lesson of the distillery and surrounding area. Fun for the whole family.

I ll start by saying that the distillery is awesome. The tours are great. What is really lacking is the gift shop! I love all of the bourbons produced by Buffalo Trace, but there wasn t one single bottle for sale in the gift shop! It was so disappointing. How can you not have your bourbon on the shelves?!?! Go for the tours, but don t plan on taking home any bourbon.

Our tour guide was amazing! Great story tellers. Unfortunately the sandwich shop was not open during the wintery season, so we ended up going back to town for some food, specifically Bourbon on Main - which their taco salad was like a beef stew which was delicious!

Every 15 min Buffalo Trace offers a free complementary tour and four free drinks to taste + a Bourbon ball.

The drinks included:
1) Their vodka - 10x distilled (wasn't my favorite... Not that I like drinking vodka - I was here for the bourbbb!)
2) Buffalo Trace classic - very delicious and light
3) Eagle Rare - this one was my favorite one
4) Bourbon Cream - I didn't think I was going to like it but it turned out to be amazing

Although I would have preferred tasting more Bourbon - and there is no bar on site, I guess I'll have to book tours 1-2 months ahead of time next time!!

They have plenty more tours where you can access the good stuff. This is definitely a great Distillery worth exploring a couple of times. Book early!!!

Just know that the free tour is limited in what you see. If you re a big fan specifically of Buffalo Trace, make an advance reservation for one of the paid tours. The free tour is good, and includes samples, you just don t get to see the whole production line as you might see at Maker s Mark or Jim Beam. Both those tours are paid and there isn t a free option.
Oh, don t miss out on sampling the Bourbon Cream! Where has this stuff been all my life?!?!

5 star place. Allow me to explain. The only reason I leave a two star review is that I see this place has nearly 1,000 reviews but the owner of this account only replies to negative reviews. I know I know I am not the police monitoring how they run their google my biz page but as someone going through the trouble of leaving a review to help your viewership I would like a thank you or at least half the engagement you give the nay sayers, so would everyone else that take the time out of their day to leave you a positive review.
So let me say the tour was amazing, and I am a huge fan of everything that comes out of this place. Our tour and tasting was FREE! And they allowed us to bring our two year old son (yeah yeah) our tour guide was Freddy apparently this guy grew up on these grounds and his father and grandfather worked here. Freddy was so sold on the culture of working here it brought him to tears, I almost applied for a job here just because of how happy he was with the culture. He was a frat tour guide and even thanked and appreciated and helped out little fussy child because he grew up there!
The only thing that would have made our experience better is if we could have had the opportunity to maybe buy some Blantons or Stagg or anything rare while we there.
I may change my two star review if the owner of this account could start at least saying thank you to some of their customers who leave reviews.
Edit- fine I ll change it to a five star review even though I didn t get a response, just keep making your bourbon. I was really hoping some engagement but I guess not.

Best complementary tour and the guide. Guide is very knowledgeable and informative about the distillery process. Best part of the tour was bottling and tasting. They were very generous in giving us to taste awesome bourbon. I would definitely recommend this place and the tour

Buffalo Trace is an immensely, beautiful, National...

Buffalo Trace is an immensely, beautiful, National Historic Landmark that sits on the banks of the Kentucky River in the rolling foothills of Frankfort, the capital city of Kentucky.

The distillery has a rustic look that brings the sense of being in the pre-Prohibition era. Gorgeous landscaping that is great for backdrop, photo sceneries surround the buildings adding a different charm. Thought-provoking, informative tours are FREE to visitors and last roughly about an hour with samples at the end, and there's something for everyone, even those interested in haunted places. Tours end at the gift shop and there's a wide array of Buffalo Trace merchandise to wear, drink or have as a collector's item.

Hungry? Grab a delicious pulled-pork, brisket or another type of meal inside of the Firehouse Sandwich Shop and wash it down with a Dr. McGillicuddy's root beer. Large portions for a very reasonable price that won't leave your pockets suffering while on vacation.

So, if you're visiting Kentucky and seeking a new place to explore, visit Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort.

What a great time! Took the Trace Tour and wish that I had gone earlier and took advantage of more the free tours that were offered. Loved seeing the history and current production. The tour culminates with a few free samples for those interested and of age.
If you are in the area, this is a must see!

This place was awesome! The whole staff was very knowledgeable & so friendly! There was a free tour, free drink samples & the back story to how it all got started. It was definitely a cool experience! I like how the set up was like their own little town.

Beautiful knowledge if you are a Bourbon Fan. Buffalo Trace is not on the Burbon trail and we found out why. With almost an incredible 400K visitors per year, why would you need to be? Also, BT does not charge for their tours which makes them stand out from the rest. We had great encounters with everyone we met there. We visited 9/21 and 9/22. From Lindsay to Rick to the very helpful Jenny and Janet, our experience was amazing. We will be back in the future. There was plenty of Buffalo Trace on the shelf. unfortunately, the Eagle Rare sold out quickly on Saturday and we only saw Blanton's in the Blanton Factory. We also did the KY river tour with Allison and Nathan, although it is not related to Buffalo trace they do leave out of their gift shop. Highly recommend the locks tour!!

First of all, the place is gorgeous. The tour is free, which is amazing. We had a great tour guide, he had a lot of useful information. I recommend going during the week because bottling is not in operation on the weekend. They gave us a selection of 5 of their offerings to try. I loved the eagle rare and bourbon cream.

Pretty disappointed to visit a bourbon distillery ...

Pretty disappointed to visit a bourbon distillery and not be able buy their (Buffalo Trace) bourbon. The shelves were bare of Buffalo Trace bourbon. The sales staff were quite rude when we asked for assistance. When customer service is your job you shouldn't be rude to the customer. It doesn't matter to me how many days or hours you've had to work, you shouldn't treat customers in that manner. We had some pretty long days traveling to your state and you certainly didn't leave a good impression!

We almost missed going here on our bourbon trail, but glad we didn't. The tours are FREE and include a tasting at the end. We had more detailed tours at Woodford Reserve and Wild Turkey, but you cannot beat free! At the end of the tour you have the choice of 2 of 3 offerings, White Dog (un-aged whiskey), Buffalo Trace, and Eagle Rare. As a bonus, they offered their Bourbon Cream with root beer which is like an adult root beer float, very good! They have the hard to find Blanton's in their gift shop, but still very limited stock.

What I love about Buffalo Trace Distillery is that they have such a wide variety of whiskeys. They often experiment with different mashes and aging to produce unique whiskeys. They are well known for Buffalo Trace, Blanton's Single Barrel, and any of bourbons from the Van Winkle collection. You may have heard of Eagle Rare, Stagg Jr., Sazerac Rye, and E.H. Taylor to name a few also produced by the Buffalo Trace Distillery. I have discovered more and more of their offerings since visiting and have so many questions for the next time we go back!

Definitely add Buffalo Trace to your bourbon trail, because there are not many things in life better than free bourbon!

Fantastic! Never been to a distillery? Start with Buffalo Trace on the Trail and take the normal free tour that leaves every hour, on the hour. The guide will explain the whole process to you, soup to nuts. You ll also get to see the actual hand bottling of Blanton s. Lee was our tour guide...very informative and enthusiastic. A+!

Sampling at the end is a nice touch. The Bourbon Cream is like Bailey s, but 100 times better.

If you are fancying a bottle of E.H. Taylor or Blanton s, get it early! We decided to wait until after the tour, and they were all out of the good stuff.

One of the best distillery tours in Kentucky. We took their regular tour, and the historical architecture tour, which as very interesting. The guides on both tours were excellent. Beautiful grounds and buildings. A must see if you're visiting distilleries.

Great tour at one of the most famous bourbon distillery in the country.
Home of Buffalo Trace, Blanton, Pappy and Weller.
What else I need to say.... The air in the entire Valley will make u want to stay there for ever. Full of caramel and vanilla, OMG. Is Heaven.
Great tour with knowledgeable former employees.
Awesome gift shop where u have a chance to score some hard to find bottles. No limit!

Highly recommended!

Beautiful facility and excellent tours. We did 3 tours - the Barrel Tour, Hard Hat Tour and National Historical Landmark Tour. All were led by enthusiastic and knowledgeable hosts who gave a nice overview of the operations.

What an incredible place! The tour was great, had an amazing tour guide, fun tasting, and all for free! You could really feel (and smell, best smell on Earth!) the history. The gift shop was nice but they were all out if bourbon!

We really enjoyed the history of the distillery and the cultivation and presentation of the history. Jimmy was our tour guide and did a excellent job of sharing his knowledge of the history of the distillery as well as the surrounding area. My only disappointment and it was a big one is that the bourbon they put out in the morning is it!!!
So don't wait until after your tour to buy what you want or you will leave empty hamded as we did.

Swung by on our move across the country and this place was awesome. Tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and explain the process of making bourbon with ease. Tasting was generous and we enjoyed our stop. I just wish they had more bourbon for sale onsite, but obviously the nature of bourbon makes it hard to keep popular batches in stock.

Went on the ghost tour at buffalo trace and it was really cool. A nice edition to the regular bourbon yours. The best part was that it was absolutely free. And they still have you bourbon at the end! The tour guides were delightful
