History
The history of Buffalo Trace dates back to 1773 when a man named Hancock Lee built a small distillery on the banks of the Kentucky River. In 1812, another man named Harrison Blanton purchased this land and started producing whiskey under his own name. Over time, several other families took ownership of this land and continued to produce whiskey until it was finally purchased by Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr., who renamed it O.F.C (Old Fire Copper) Distillery.
In 1886, O.F.C was sold to George T. Stagg who renamed it as George T Stagg Distillery and expanded its production capacity significantly by adding new warehouses for aging barrels.
In 1992 Sazerac Company acquired George T Stagg distilleries which included Old Charter brand as well as Blanton’s Single Barrel brand which became part of their portfolio.
