Buca Di Beppo – San Jose Review

Always love going here. It does/is busy on Friday and Saturday nights.

Good food but our pizza took longer than expected as did the ravioli. We also had to wait almost an hour but it was expecting for a Friday night with no reservations and there were a few graduations celebration going on. Service was ok I don't think they have enough servers working. I'd still go back as the food was still good.

Looooong wait times even on a weekday evening if you don't have reservations. All the dishes are meant for sharing, and they're priced that way as well. Make your own pasta is a pretty good deal, and order takeout if you don't feel like waiting for a table.

Do you like pasta? Can you eat a lot? If you said yes to both those questions, you'll definitely love it here.

Food is alright, exactly what you expect from an Italian American restaurant serving huge portions. I recommend the rigatoni with meat sauce + sausage, and the chicken saltimbocca (tender chicken with lemon butter, caper and artichoke hearts). The large size is definitely enough to share between 4 to 5 people.

This place is not for two people it is not for a date. For three people order double everything.

The restaurant wasn't clean. We had to wait for long time then we found it was not even crowded inside but most of the tables were empty! It seems they were just not in the mood to serve customers! Add to this: Food didn't taste good. We will never go there again.

AVOID for lunch. Waited too long to be seated even though the restaurant was empty. Getting a server took far too long as well. Finally got our drinks. Had to wait again for the waiter to come back to order food. After ordering waited at least 20 minutes, no food. Changed our order to go. Overall spent about 40 minutes there before getting our food. Horrible service!!!

For me and for the money best place to go if you want to have a big party there portions are excellent the food is pretty good I enjoyed it I would I'm going back

Gotta love those family size portions for when you have big parties. At night they usually have a photographer roaming around to take pictures of your party, you get to choose to buy the pictures in b&w or color.

It's great for family eating. This Buca's food and service are consistently good. They have a pretty big selection of food and drinks at a reasonable price. It's kitchen always looks clean as well. Only downside is they prefer to seat groups when most of the people are there....so you might have to wait a bit. The restaurant is large though so if you're in a smaller group you will get seated pretty quickly. Great place for a big birthday group on a budget!

While it has a reputation for FANTASTIC Italian food I was put off by the horrendously pricey menu and horribly bland mediocre food on said menu. For years I have raved about how completely awesome their Fettuccine Alfredo sauce was...now I have to retract my former reviews. So disappointed. My husband's sausage and peppers side dish was something akin to a dish at Denny's! I'm so saddened...we spent $90.00 and will NOT return for a 3rd time. I guess if people pay a "car payment" for a family meal it doesn't have to taste good!!

Delicious food and atmosphere my family and I have been coming here for special occasions for years! Very special place

This is a review just for take out. They did not seem to be very busy, but it took 45 minutes for a pepperoni pizza. My food was not hot and very greasy. I will gives this place another try though in the future, just not take out.

Drinks are super weak, but food is always delicious!

Nice place, food, menu, prices, and barman. BUT, at 645p, when there are more staff in the place than customers, the 3 member reception crew is all about wait, WAIT, while we do the nothing required to prep a bar table for 2 guests. Management: please train staff on customer focus!!

Food was good, but everything needed more sauce. My husband is Italian so we are picky, but the sauce was boring. Service was good. All in all it was a good anniversary dinner!

I have gone twice with my family, and we have loved their spicy chicken rigatoni; the pasta has the right consistency and spice. Additionally, their portions are very generous- we have had leftovers after each meal- and reasonably priced.
Also, the servers have been friendly. Overall, we have had a great experience each time. I look forward to the next visit.

Not a fan of the food. It is a good place to take a large group. No rush, but again the food leaves much to be desired.

Food was good. And I never saw such horrible restrooms poop everywhere. My 3 yr old wanted to use bathroom. After amazing dinner I took her and almost puked what I ate yuck. Never ever will go here after that I can t erase that vision if I need to eat here again.

Low quality chicken, fast food style pizza, poor quality tomatoes in the bruschetta which had fried bread, oily parmigiana.

This place was awesome! We had a party of 20 and they treated us like royalty. Ignore the "1s" on here, the food and service were outstanding.

This used to be our favorite Friday hang out place. Food was great and service was excellent. Now, the standard wait is about 1 hour, and customer service is terrible.
At my last visit I saw two hostess arguing at each other in the lobby and a family left angry and disappointed. Where was the manager??? Front lobby people have an unwelcoming face. If they hate their job, find another job. Last time I will probably come and eat here...sad to see it crumble away!

The wait staff was efficient, friendly, and very helpful. And the food is good (enormous portions).

We have alsways loved bucca di beppo until we ate here, the staff is slow, forgetful and food was no good. The pizza was soggy, they had no dipping sauces and service took forever when the restaurant was empty. Never again!

We went here on Christmas Eve because we were way to late to make a reservation somewhere else... 'ah, so it was second choice you say?' Not necessarily and if it were, it was a great second choice.

The waitress responsible for our table was very friendly and got us what we requested when requested, so that's nice. Since we were a few minutes early we wanted to sit at a different table and they made this possible.

The food was great. We had some stuffed pasta dishes and a chicken dish (can't remember the names). For Christmas Eve it was served at a relatively good pace.

Free bread and refills.

There was a photographer there a.k.a. a way to make some more money of customers. We received a complementary picture. The nicer and bigger prints had to be paid for. We declined and the photographer was gracious about it and didn't push anything.

All and all I'd recommend this place to others.

They changed their pricing structure on the menu to per person costs to cover how super expensive they now are. I was shocked. Way cheaper to go to maggiano's and better. Sorry buca I use to be a fan.

This place was unorganized and just terrible front house staff.
It s thanksgiving and we had a party of seven in which we called ahead to see if they were open and ask what the wait time was. He said that it was reservation only, so we hung up to make sure everyone wanted to go there because previous plans had fallen through. So my husband calls back to make a reservation
The host said they weren t taking any reservations for the holiday so now we have conflicted information but state we are on our way in anyway.
So we load up our very elderly grandparents and two very small children and head out. When we get there they say we needed to have a reservation and that they werent taking walk ins; the host actually denied telling my husband that we needed to walk in and that weren t going to be seated. When I heard him say two different things when we called two separate times. My husbands grandmother who is on an oxygen tank had come out and to be told that we were basically out of luck ruined our entire thanksgiving. This was my sons first thanksgiving and we don t know how many holidays we have left with his grandmother. So we all went our separate ways after this experience had really made the day more difficult than it needed to be.
My husband was polite in explaining what he was told to be told that my husband was bacially lying was unprofessional. Its the worst experience and we will never go to any Bucca di peppo again. Especially this one. Don t go unless want a terrible experience the minute you walk in.

We really enjoy Buca di Beppo in Campbell and have gone there for date nights, birthday and anniversary celebrations, and a wedding rehearsal dinner. It's got a fun vibe with individual dining areas filled with an eclectic, colorful decor of old photos, Italian posters, and more. We've always gotten good service there and tonight were impressed with a young server named Esma who has worked there a couple of years. The food is tasty and filling. It's a popular place, so if you don't like waiting, go at times that are less busy.

This used to be our favorite. We went there recently, the food has lost its flavor, poor service, lack of concern by manager and over priced. $25 for a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs, seriously!! Our bill was $82 for 2 dishes for 2 people.

Nice place with friendly staff. I haven't tried their pasta yet. I had the brussel sprouts with prosciutto and they were ok. The prosciutto pieces were big and didn't really add a lot of flavor as they were served... To me it just felt like there was more salt in the dish. I also tried the chicken parm which was good. I was hoping for a robust sauce and a bit more of cheese to be honest and flavor to the chicken so I wouldn't order it again but I would give their pasta a try.

Overpriced, mediocre food and inattentive service. The Margeherita pizza was fine but I can't say it was worth the $30 price. Same for the giant meatballs. There's nothing wrong with them, but they're very average, as is the pasta and uninspired tomato sauce. Our server repeatedly forgot to bring us basic requests (e.g., crushed red pepper for our pizza) and on multiple occasions we got up from our table and fetched things ourselves.

Today I ordered a large Eggplant Parmigiana and and small mixed salad to go. The bill came to $72. As I was walking to my car I glanced in one of the bags and noticed a large salad with shrimp that was obviously not mine and another large container half filled with 3 small Eggplant. I assumed they made an error and I returned to the restaurant. As I walked in, the staff came up to me with another bag and said there was a mistake with the salad. I asked if they also made a mistake with the Eggplant and given me a small by mistake. The manager took the container back into the kitchen, looked in the bag and said no that s a large . I commented that I would expect the large container to be full for $45 and that I didn t think it would feed 4 people. The manager said 3 pieces will feed 5 people. I left and they never thanked me for returning the obviously more expensive salad or apologized for the error.
I don t know how they can claim that the 3 pieces of Eggplant I received will feed 4-5. It didn t satisfy 4 light eaters. I would expect for the price I paid I wouldn t have to ration it out to make sure everyone gets fed.
Not worth the money.

The food was ok. Almost just like I make at home but mine has more garlic/flavor. Was disappointed with the food. Customer service was just ok, nothing to talk about. They forgot about our last dish so by the time it came to our table we were do full we had to box it up to take home!!bummer right-

Went for birthday celebration. Was wanting the chef table, but ended up getting so much more. Thank you for excellent service Richard, and making the birthday memorable Manager Karl!

Found it to be pretty bland. Boil packaged meal at home instead and sprinkle quality parmesan. Even the olive oil tasted cheap.

Food was forgettable and they must've jacked up the prices... Ended up costing way too much for what we got. Their seafood pasta (pescatore) was good but overall the food just wasnt worth the price. Our waitress/service was good... There are just better italian places for the money.

The bread & main dishes were good salad a little soggy.

STEVEN the bartender serves the tables in the bar area HE IS AWESOME, always polite,prompt,excellent with suggestions and friendly.....The food is fabulous....

This is becoming our go to restaurant for family birthday parties. They serve solid, family-style Italian food. When you order, remember that the portions are bigger than you think.

Their spaghetti sauce is very sour and it tastes like it came from a canned tomato sauce. I had lasagna and it was overcooked, it was hard and cardboard, also with very sour tomato sauce. It tasted like cardboard drenched in vinegar. Want impressed with their lunch menu, don't know if dinner is any better.

Nice decor inside the restaurant with all the posters and memorabilia of Italy and the people. As far as the food that we ordered, they were just average and nothing spectacular to rave about. Our waitress was excellent though.

When we arrived we were told it would be a half hour to 45. I used the restroom and saw several 10+ empty tables. Thats frustrating. Waiting for no reason does not add to the experience. The first dining room was about 80 degrees so we switched to a table near the bar which was cooler. The food was good but I didn't get mine until 20 mins after everyone else. I had just started eating when they dropped off the bill. The food was very good as expected. Without that it would be one star. The service has much to be desired.

Do not eat here if you have plans later. Food is good, but service is unreliable.

Made reservations for 5:15. Showed up at 5:15 to an empty restaurant and was told, "We're getting your table ready"... we weren't seated until 5:38. Because of this, I ran out of time and had to leave after only eating bread.
After reading other reviews and responses, this is a chronic problem here and the staff has been aware for months...

The waiter was nice and helpful, but we were seated so late that it didn't make a difference.

I chose Buca for the venue to throw my Son's incredibly special 18th birthday.
I went banquet style and took a private space for our party. The "lemon" room was small and awkwardly shaped. Don't attempt to seat your family of 27 at a family style table, you will be separated and some guests will get their uncomfortable worn out booths.
The banquet style food was not up to par in any way. Pastas were cold, and lacked flavor. Salads were good. Caprese salad, one table had hair on their plate.
I was overcharged, and have not been contacted back by anyone to resolve this. This is the worst part of my experience, thiefing customers is the worst thing anyone can do, & because of that, I will probably not walk into another Buca di peppo again.
The service before and during the party was really bad. Not to mention the bar service, it took 45 minutes for some wine. That is just not ok.

Do better in 2019.

Typical Buca chain in an outdoor mall venue with tough parking on weekends.

Tried so many Italian places before, was in Italy a few times in my life. Not what was expecting. I liked the interior and the design inside the restaurant. Waiters didn't pay much attention, and didn't bother much. Great place for big parties but nothing special if you want to have proper Italian food.

I tried to call for takeout twice and got put on hold both times for five minutes before I hung up.

Food decent, portions good, excellent for family gathering ( after Covid ). They do take out so do give them some love.

Everything is delicious, I recommend the pasta a little spicy but delicious.

Great Italian Chain Restaurant, with a great menu, good flavorful creations and out of control portions. Love all the pictures and the family atmosphere. Other then the ice cream gallon martini glass, stay away from the desert menue, but you will be to full for desert any way. Enjoy.
