My first ymca. I love the people. I definitely love tge water aerobics good work out.
Love it at the Y, I've been a member for well over a year and will continue to be.
Used to be decent. I absolutely hate this place nowadays. You get shafted unless you opt to pay for a trainer or sign up for classes.
Best place to workout! Lots of classes and variety of equipment to choose from. They also offer summer camps for little ones!
This place is huge upgrade from the Williams family Y I was a member of last year. They have a indoor pool, hot tub and sauna where as the Williams does not. It does cost a little more though.
Good atmosphere with a lot of exercise gear. Worth joining up....
Nice facility with childcare so my husband and I can work out. Friendly staff and good variety of exercise classes available.
I have been using Brooks Y swimming pool for almost 10 years in the winter months. I use it for water aerobics (not a class) 3-4 times per week. When I first started attending, the pool area was quiet (no music piped in) and it was relaxing physically and mentally. After a couple years, they started piping what they call "music" into the pool area. When I inquired about it, they stated that it was to "help the life guards keep awake"! If a life guard can't stay awake for 20 minutes before they change stations, they shouldn't be life guarding.
I have about 50% hearing loss in both ears, so when I say the music is too loud, take my word for it - it is loud. Last winter I began wearing two sets of gun range level ear plugs - one pair in the ears and the other as ear phones. Most days the bass was still booming. On days when it is really blasting, I will ask them to turn it down. Sometimes they do, but usually not or not enough to make a difference. October is here and soon I will have to move inside with my water workout. I simply dread the time when I have to go back to the Y, but they are the closest public place with an indoor pool. If I can get there right after they have finished the aerobics class around 11:30 a.m., the music is not so loud; however, depending on which life guards are on duty, it is soon jacked up again.
Swimmers probably don't hear the music because their head is usually in or under water; however, for those who do water aerobics, they usually don't have their head under water and the music is too loud, distracting and usually only what the millennial life guards want to listen to. You might ask me why I don't go into the warmer, smaller therapy pool. One, it's too warm and two, I use the lanes for part of my workout. Not looking forward to another 6 months inside at Brooks Y pool. What a nice surprise it would be to have someone in management actually read this and do something about the loud music. Don't get me wrong - it's not that I don't like music. I was a music major and music teacher years ago. I just have difficulty with loud.
It's a friendly inviting professional Family Place! It offers variety cleanliness and class.
I came to ask for the membership application (financial aid ) for those with low income The lady at the front desk was so rude when i asked her couple of questions she was looking somewhere else and acting like she was busy, I guess she fakes her kindness, and only being nice for those people that pull up in Mercedes.
Last week my husband (who is a ymca member at another location) went with me to a physical therapy appointment thinking that he could work out while I had my therapy but was told that he was not allowed. Period. End of conversation. (Why not offer a guest pass for the day and say If you would like to join us in the future you can add this location for an additional $6 a month. ) Instead, he sat at a table waiting for me to complete my pt appointment. At one point he needed to use the toilet but was told that he couldn t because it was for ymca members only, even after he explained he was a ymca member at another location. We both felt VERY unwelcome. Surely there could have been another way to handle the situation!
I freaking love this gym I've never felt this way about any gym in life it motivates me to go work out because they have so many options of things to do, basketball, hot and cold pool, sauna, hot tub, and classes. There's no excuse here really
Hot tub and towel service make this the best YMCA around.
I feel comfortable and confident here! Workers and nice and definitely a non judgemental place.
I would highly recommend Brooks YMCA. Their facility is amazing and very clean and they always have a great selection of classes. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Great facility that has all of the weights and machines I like to use. The staff is friendly and professional.
I come here for physical therapy. Great, well equipped facility, excellent therapists, and very nice staff.
The staff is basic and not too friendly. The pool is filled with old band aids and it closes early. The life guards at the pool are loud and rude. The staff members are constantly playing with each other and acting unprofessional making the customers feel alienated. I have seen recently that there are some new employees which seemed to be a bit more professional. The pool should be cleaned daily considering the high volume of people coming in and out. I ended up getting a wart on my foot from that disease ridden pool. Never going again.
My father goes for a Parkinson's exercise group. It has been fabulous for him. Thank You!
It is always. Too cold need sweater.1Went for yoga class also play Boccia ball there. Subway is good.
Great looking YMCA thanks for opening your doors to allow volunteers to shower during hurricane relief
This place is great..The facility is nice & they also had a nice daycare for my daughter.
The staff and facilities here are great, they have it all. There are also vendors selling products and produce near the entrance so picking up some things after a Saturday morning workout and grabbing a Subway sandwich on the way out can be nice. They also host the occasional community event here for children.
Beautiful facility! I almost felt at home in locker room.
My Spouse and I are very pleased with our experience of the programs we've experienced to date. The Facility is truly well designed to accommodate the membership's respective program needs. The Staff are very responsive to the Y's Membership and their needs.
This is not the good old fashoned YMCA we grew up with. $ is paramount. The General Manager is a bully and disrespectful. If you are a business, do not donate to First Coast YMCA. There are better charities to spend your valuable dollars. This is a profit business hiding under non-profit tag.
Creme Dela creme of YMCAs all of the equipment first rate lockers come equipped with locks towels are fluffy
Paid $50 per month just for playing indoor basketball. However, the basketball court is always occupied by other events.
What a GREAT facility!! I've never been to a YMCA that has such a personable staff and super clean restrooms/showers and gym. I never have to wait to check it, ever! The parking is plentiful and there is even a small restaurant inside the front door. I recommend this Y highly. You won't be disappointed.
I love this place !! A Good Family Place to go and work out.
I have been a member of Brooks on three different occasions since it opened, and wasn't affiliated with the YMCA. I am glad to see that YMCA has continued to keep the facility clean and continues offering even more of a variety of the group classes. The second time I joined it was a YMCA and the staff wasn't friendly and welcoming. I joined about a week ago and I was made welcome by Traci Selley. Not only was she kind and knowledgeable but she also made an appointment for me that day to have an introductory session with a trainer.
Kudos to Traci Stelley and the YMCA for hiring wonderful individuals such as Traci!
I love this place! The facility is well kept with a large variety of machines and the staff is very friendly.
Lots of equipment, typically empty during business hours. Not a lot of meatheads.
service is excellent. they've started to clean the pools and sauna lot more which is nice.
never have to weight to use equipment. they have a ton of classes to choose from and stay open to 10pm
Brooks YMCA is hands down the best! It is truly a no judgement zone and they want the best for you. It's always clean and the staff will go out to their way to help you.
Love it! The kidzone is the best place for kids in town! I would have joined just for this!
We went to the Sports Rehad Center because my son pulled a hamstring at practice and the therapist happens to be a part of this facility so he met us there for a consult. The smell of Subway makes you exercise more so you can possibly have a sub afterwards. I didn't go further than that but the rehab center therapist gives you great info on your injury and the best advice.
They have a very nice basketball court. But the time is very limited for actual playing the basketball. Always reserved for something else. Can they separate the court and let us playing the basketball? I understand it is a nonprofit organization. But the price is keep going up.
Great facilities and looks more like a private gym than a YMCA. But it can be very busy at certain times
This place is all about money. I join a month ago. My rate was $73 dollars a month.i got a call yesterday to say since i dont have a employee ID it will go up to $98 dollars. I said hell no. Base on my income and my childcare i need in order to work out will cost me $98 dollars a month. Im a single mother who is the soul provider for my son. I will not take food from my son mouth to continue going there. Its hard enough with one income already. Daycare is only for 2 hours, some of the daycare staff don't care to do activities with the kids, they never have towel upstair and the equipments upstair are always dirty. What the hell im i paying $73 dollars for and now they increasing it to $98. One thing i will admit the front desk staff are nice. Im very disappointed at how money hungry YMCA is.
It's pretty busy here, but everyone is nice and helpful. I like the wide variety of exercise classes they have. It's pricier than other gyms, but I feel it's well worth it.
Clean. Friendly, knowledgeable people. Yoga classes are excellent. Love working with the weights and on the machines. Can't wait to go back tomorrow!
Went for a tour, place is beautiful. Not crowded, has everything you can think of plus a great view. Much better, more spacious , and more classes than a regular gym
This is a 2 story premier gym with all the amenities. The group workout classes have the best instructors that teach the Les Mills exercise programs. There is an indoor pool and basketball court and it also has day care available. If you want to get in shape and feel comfortable doing it this is the place to go.
Did not have a welcoming experience. My crew and I were just trying to play some half court pick up basketball when we were told by other patrons there, NOT employees, that we have to run Full Court because that's how they "run" it there and it's been that way for years. So we were basically kicked off the court even though it said on the schedule that it was open court and anyone could play. We went to management but management didn't do anything. They seemed to be incompetent and had no authority over the situation. So beware folk, if you wanted to join this Y with the hopes of playing a simple game of basketball, note that it will not happen. They seem to have a cult like, unwelcoming feel in the gym that management or anyone allegedly in power has control over. Can't speak on the rest of the Y but the Gym area is trash and I nor the rest of the 7 people in my crew will not be joining because of it. We shall not be spending our hard earned money where we do not feel welcomed or important as newcomers.
Nice Y, little small on the weight floor. They could really use some more equipment. Daycare backs up about 9am. Then they bring the wait list out. So get there early.
Traveled to Jacksonville for a week on business, hotel was close to this location. I am a member in Tampa, staff was friendly and facility was nice, adequate selection of equipment, although a bit crowded during peak times after normal working hours.
Its a good spot to get all your excerise needs I went on a one day waiver for basketball.
Social and they know my face! I excercise a lot more with their help and guidance!
Excellent facilities, well-maintained, with friendly and helpful staff.
Great rehab pool and another big pool for laps. They have a sauna, showers, jacuzzi, and a decent gym. They have good ambience in the gym too.
The Brooks Family YMCA is always very dirty. From the equipment to the locker rooms, I unfortunately find it the most unkempt wellness facility I've been a member of. It doesn't seem like there is nearly enough staff members keeping the place clean and in order. The "cleaning" crew appears to be a family working out of an unmarked mini-van parked that parks in front of the building. A cleaner environment and better equipment could make this a 5 star location.
Great, courteous and competent staff! Plenty of equipment and lots of exercise classes to choose from.
All of the activities and the inside is wonderful to see
I came here as a visitor of a friend, it seems like a really good gym, the staff are really friendly when I accidentally locked my stuff in my locker. I had a really nice time in the sauna that was basically nobody there because it was late at night
Worst customer service ever.
First, they change business hours without notifying gym members; the past two times I've been they've been closed when they advertise open. Apparently you're supposed to check their website and read the tiny text at the top? Ever heard of a mass text or email, the way any modern business would handle unexpected closure?
Second, they mens sauna has a 50/50 chance of being on and even when it is on its maximum temperature is 130 F. I as well as many other members have mentioned the issues with the sauna and been told many times that they would be fixed yet it still is a problem.
The staff and management seem to be really comfortable doing the bare minimum and are happy to ride out the clock just to get their paycheck.
Best work out places in town. Very friendly staff members, a nice clean modern like style touch to the surrounding areas, great sport programs, exercising classes, and plenty of machines too workout with 2 stories of them. This is one of the greatest workout places I would return every time.
Love the Y.. From yoga to body flow to workout machines, they have it all. Great place for soul, body and mind.
Lots of group exercise classes and if the Jaguars win on any Sunday, come in and join on Monday and they will waive the $60 initiation fee. The negative is that all of the rooms do not have wipes to wipe down equipment and mats after use. Always get a towel if you lay on the mats!
Great facilities, clean and new
Varied class schedule
The place is awesome but the staff jasmine and chad ridiculously disrespectiful with no understand for kids and parents culture. This is suppose to be a family thing when people dont have a problem these to make problems for no reason. I order food for my kids the order came the lady jasmine told them they had nobody by the name. Lying. My kid has been there all day I dropped him off there. All she had to do is call him over the intercom if i wasnt a working parent and paying ymca so he could have something to do. I could have cook food and took him to a park. People make problems for other people when its not necessary. Then I call to vent to a manager. Jasmine asks if it could be anyone. I said as long as it someone who can help me she puts someone on the phone just as worst as her. Mr. Chad was very rude no understand and for the well being of my child or regards for a working parent. That is. Place for entertainment for kids not a jail house.
Then jasmine tells the delivery lady that we no better then to send food there to the front desk. There is nothing in there policy that states any this foolishness thats you people that dont like they jobs should not be hired they should stay home. Best of luck if u have a issue with Jasmine and chad.
Very clean and accommodating. Staff is nice but you can tell they are faking it.
Very professional and knowledgeable about their practice.
I just love Brooks Family Y. The Yoga Classes, and, playing Boccia, are great! I've learned to relax more. I so enjoy meeting and, being around so many friendly people.
The staff is very friendly and helpful! There are so many classes and activities, for kids and adults. All the equipment is new, and there's a Subway and Brooks Rehab Center. And two indoor pools!
I miss going because of surgery. Can't wait to get back.
