Visited here on my family's trip to New York last fall. Great animals and scenery, but definitely plan to bring your own food/drinks since the zoo has amusement park-style pricing for these items.

There is so much walking involved. The kids are tired after four or five scenes, which will take approximately 2 hours. Nevertheless the experience is about worth it.
For the people that are saying don't go, they are wrong. I remember my 9th time going to the bronx zoo. I didn't see much in the northeast quadrant but I saw a lot in the other quadrants. The animals are grandiloquent, the rides are awesome, and the food is very, very good! You would have the best time ever, like I did. I can't wait to go there next time!
Totally awesome and big zoo of all NY! Best is Reptile House and Congo Habitat! Really love those exotic animals that are so important to protect them. I really recommend this zoo from NY!
I notice a lot of the negative reviews are from people who attempted to go on Wednesdays when there is free admission. Well, I have never gone on a Wednesdays, so I have no idea how bad it is. I have however gone during the week, and it was amazing. Seriously, go on a random weekday when no one is there, it is so amazing.
First of all, the place is huge. I mean there is SO much to see. The last time we went we were there from 10:30 - 5 and we only got through maybe 75% of the zoo. It is so beautiful to just wander around and spend time in. It is very easy to forget you are still in one of the largest cities in the world.
Things in the actual park are expensive, so that is an issue if you are trying to be frugal. My wife and son did the camel ride and it was $14 for about two minutes of riding.
There is the "4D" movie about birds based on Rio. It was WAY too intense for my three year old, I would skip it. It dealt with poaching and stuff, kind of scary.
Supposedly one of the best times to go is in the winter right after it snows. Apparently the animals love to play in the snow, so hopefully one day I will get to try that.
I don't remember the place having so many attractions that cost extra money to get into when I was a kid... If you have a big group with you, you might wind up spending an extra 50 bucks to see some monkeys or walk on some special trail together.
Very dirty and expensive. There is a river with a lake that is filled with garbage. You have to pay for parking but parking is not available oh, you will be asked to park on grass which you may or may not be able to get out of when you ready to leave. Lions a huge for every exhibit, staff is discourteous I'm disconnected what makes it worse that they are clueless about where they working and what are they doing.
i think it's the best zoo in the city if not top 5 in the country. watching the new tv show on animal planet i have a new found respect for the people that work there and all the things that go on behind the scenes that we dont get to see on a normal visit.
Very very great experiences in this zoo!!! A lot of shades and very comfortable paths to walk on. Very friendly staff and knowledgeable keepers. Feeding shows were very fun to watch. They have stuffed animals of those rare species in the zoo. Very good souvenirs. The zoo is really doing a lot of work to try to preserve those endangered animals. Part of the admission fees go to those researches and preservation work. We all had great time there though there were so many things to see in one day that we missed Dinosaur Safari and Asia Monorail.... You can buy tickets online and get 20% off discount with the code they give you online.
Love the zoo! Always a good time. Friendly, clean, & well maintained. Our kids love spending warm days here exploring. Excited for the dinosaur safari!
Exceeded my expectations, especially the wonderful bird exhibits. I visited on a free Wednesday on a cold winter day, but there were plenty of world-class exhibits to see in contrast to the nearby New York Botanical Garden where virtually no exhibits were accessible on their free Wednesday. My favorite exhibit was the grizzlies who were quite happy with the cold weather. The penguin exhibit was phenomenal as were all the multitud of bird exhibits. The San Diego Zoo is better in the Winter because all the facilities are operational, whereas the Bronx Zoo tends to shut down many attractions. I wanted to try the zip line but ut was shut down as were many other services and attractions. That said, it is still worthwhile visiting in the winter.
The Bronx Zoo is very much worth the trip for any animal lover. It is the biggest zoo in the NYC system and you can easily spend from opening to closing seeing the huge diversity of animals. I suggest buying the total experience ticket so you can get into all the exhibits and a bit of patience when dealing with school groups. Pro tip: If you go on a slightly rainy alot less people come but the zoo is still open and a vast majority of exhibits are still open.
I love going to the Bronx zoo with my son. The experience their is amazing. To learn about the animals and how they do things in their wild life makes you wonder.
The Zoo is comprised of so many beautiful animals. The place is really good option to visit with family.I went here with my family and the children in our family were very happy with this place. They enjoyed themselves and got to learn so much. The kids were so happy that they keep on asking about our next visit. This is a wonderful place.
If you want the most out of the zoo, you must pay the full price in order to go in all the exhibits. Most of the animals are inside the exhibits which aren't included in the free ticket Wednesday pass. The gorilla exhibit is the best!
Groupon offers a much cheaper price. But it wasn't working so we had to pay $80. I was really excited to see the camels and ride them. Sadly, the camels were not available. Hubby and I are from Florida , it wasn't that hot to us but everyone else including the animals were HOT. Half of the animals had to be removed and the rest just had their lazy day and slept under the shade. One section of the zoo was closed.
You can bring outside food and drinks... (outside the zoo there's a family selling water for $1...inside $3.99 no refill ) inside food $11.99 double cheeseburger or 5 pieces of chicken tenders *roll eyes*
Other than that , it was a great experience and would love to go back.
I ve purchased a membership for the zoo for about 3 years in a row and it s become a must have for the family. The memberships are great because we can pop in for an hour or so at a time and really focus on one or two exhibits. The Bronx zoo has become a family favorite now!
Nice place, very busy and expensive. Not disability friendly, not a lot of spots for disabled and even if you tell them they put you in a far area from where you want to start.
I like the fact that on wednesdays is suggested admissions which makes it affordable for people that can't afford it such as my wife's family that comes from Peru.
As far as zoo's go this one has about everything you could hope for. The tiger and gorilla exhibit are really something and there are lots of food and beverage options, you can even get beer which is great. The only downside is that this zoo is very big and VERY spread out, so if you want to see everything it means a lot of walking which can be very hard for kids under 10.
Bronx zoo rain or shine is always great, but today with hardly anyone there due to rain was an awedome experience with our youngest daughter's 2 kids! It was eerie no one around camel and monorail rides area as those attractions were closed. Dinosaur safari was good.
Went on a Wednesday knowing it had discounts and was super crowded. So many little kids. Regret going on a Wednesday. Would recommend on any other day and when it s raining because u can see the animals up close and the place looks decent.
Staff was friendly. Lots of exhibits and animals to see. I unfortunately went on the same day as their summer camp day, so there were lots of loud (and sometimes rude) children. However for members, the zoo was opened later, so that helped. One thing I was disappointed in was their food menu options. I don't eat meat and there weren't any real entree choices that were meatless. Overall I enjoyed my day with my son and father.
Ahhh, the Bronx Zoo. One of the greatest attractions in NYC. As a girl raised in the Bronx, we took numerous school trips to the Bronx zoo. I was always mezmorized by all the animals and the cool treats. My favorite part was riding the camels and the reptile exhibit.
Now that I've grown up, I appreciate the other parts of the zoo, but prefer to stay off the camels. I like to come here on Wednesdays, because it's free! It's a great place to learn and enjoy a the day!
Had a great time, kind of a bummer that I had to pay extra money just to see some of the cooler exhibitions on top of the already somewhat large entrance fee.
Scammers. You don't have to pay the displayed price (34$ - called total experience), just ask for the regular admission (19$) which is strangely advertised NOWHERE, not even shown on the board or website. Definitely not a right attitude, otherwise 5 stars.
You can still pay for extras as you go at every attractions (5$), depending on your interests:
Gorilla Forest, Asia Monorail, Children Zoo, Jungle Forest, 4D Theater...
The Bronx Zoo is huge! There's too much to see in one day. I recommend that you wear comfortable footwear when you visit because you'll be doing a lot of walking.
Enclosures were natural. Animals all looked very comfortable. Great visit. First time I've been there I've over 60 years. Loved seeing all the old buildings still there.
Some of the exhibits were closed. Needs more organization upon arrival at gate to be more clear about online tickets vs people purchasing tickets on site. Mobile app was much more helpful than paper map. Feel like didn't get to touch all exhibits. Would of appreciated more station spots for water or snacks.
Simply amazing. A great place to go on Wednesday (Free) from May - September. (All attractions are open during that time) Make sure to be there as soon as they open so you can enjoy the whole park!
Great zoo, didn t feel like Nyc. But it seems all the new feelings for caged animals may be defeating from its original intention. They really try to renew the exhibits and kids zoo is a lot of fun. I suggest grab a rain coat and go on a drizzly day, it keeps the crowds down and can be a neat twist on a day at the zoo
The zoo as always is a great experience. It's a little different now due to Covid-19, but I'd definitely continue to visit. It's a big zoo, so children under 2 may have a hard time seeing the entire zoo in one visit.
It is the best in New York. Please go early so that you can take your time and cover the whole zoo. The zoo is huge and be ready to walk or by the trolley ticket.
