The hotel is amazing, I wish I could find out the radio station in the lobby. They literally play the best music.
The hotel is amazing, I wish I could find out the radio station in the lobby. They literally play the best music.
I stayed at the hotel in May 2014. By error or fraud, someone charged a meal from the Lounge to my room. Checking out, I went to the front desk and thought I had sorted it out, having had the charge taken off my bill. A month later, the same charge appears again on my credit card. I called Park Plaza this morning, explaining that, back in May, I had it taken off my bill and no, my roommate had NOT charged a meal to our room (as the clerk implied).
Looking up the ticket today, the front desk person asked if my roommate was James McSomething!!!! Really! ...not even the correct gender of my room mate. The hotel said they would start the process of refunding my credit card. Not trusting the hotel, I also notified the credit card people that if the charge was not removed, I would be disputing it.
Lesson learned: if they have a room number, Plaza will run with it; they do not investigate it well. Also be vigilant about watching credit and bank charges.
Very nice structure located between the Back Bay and the Downtown Crossing and adjacent a beautiful green area. Double entry on two different roads. Within walking distance of major city attractions. Beautiful lobby area. Greater brightness would not hurt. The rooms are spacious and welcoming. Very courteous and attentive staff. Possibility of payment with cards. Possibility to deposit baggage. Recommended
Gorgeous ball room, outstanding service, would have any event here truly world class.
good location, nice building, gym is great. everything is really nice. good comfortable bed.
Saw Shakespeare in the park. Fairly clean, beautiful river, well trimmed hedges.
I was at a professional event. We used grand ballroom A and B. The rooms were stunning! Staff was friendly and the food was delicious.
My first room was a 'standard' room, and I could touch both sides without stretching. Pay the extra for a 'deluxe' room, it's worth it to be able to stand without hitting something
Beautiful boutique style hotel with charm and history. From the uniformed bell hops and subdued interior lighting, to the lobby fireplace, swanky but classy decor, along with light jazz playing overhead, you feel as if you're stepping back in time to old Boston.
- The rooms (we stayed in the Executive Suite - Double Queen Bed with a fireplace) are very clean, comfortable and the attention to detail is apparent. Bathrooms have locally manufactured toiletry brands (shampoo etc.), and if you have a fireplace in your room, they will come light it at a moment's notice (non-smoke logs, NO smell) which gives the room a cozy/romantic vibe, especially in the colder Boston months.
- Great amenities for a boutique hotel (fitness center, ATM, souvenirs for purchase, strong and secure Wifi connection). Two delicious hotel restaurants (City Table and Solas) along with a separate jazz lounge style hotel bar (City Bar- highly recommend) are located in the lobby area.
-The staff are young, friendly, and very accommodating to top it off.
Overall, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Boston. Be it a romantic weekend, or a family vacation, will not disappoint.
Rooms are nice but small and the decorum and hotel is CLASSY
I had a company seminar schedule for 3 days, but the room and the bathroom were so cramped, old and old that I was disappointed. Even more surprising is the fact that these room conditions have recently been renovated. I was given a room on the 5th floor, but when I opened the window blinds, the opposite room seemed too embarrassing to me, and on the bottom there was a building air conditioner outdoor unit so I always put the blind down when I was in the room. I heard that May is the season for graduating from many universities in Boston, and I have heard that the rooms are poor for the price of the hotel. I would rather use a business hotel in the downtown area.
My hotel tonight app have me this reservation, I had to wait while the reservation came to the system. The very nice front desk agent is a good guy. He claimed he gave me an.upgrade, but I didn't see one when I entered the room. Room was good. House keeping entered my room without knocking
I try to stay here every time I travel to Boston for work. They are in a great location, their staff is friendly, and everything is always clean.
Great location near Boston Commons, and a short walk to Quincy Market. The room we had (2 queen beds) was a little tight, but we managed with 4 people. The gym looked fully featured, but unfortunately they were unable to open it because of some problem with the locks. A good place, and I would stay again.
Security detained me unlawfully and accused me of setting off a fire alarm without anything but circumstantial evidence.
We were given a room that had people already in it, then the room they put us in after had a shower that was broken.
Stayed on the 15th floor. Hotel was clean, modern, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Very convenient location, multiple restaurants in walking distance. Bed was a bit stiff for my liking and the room had an odor.
Amazing lobby, great service, friendly staff, centralized location
Fabulous, clean, and close to everything. Definitely pricey, but it's very true that you get what you pay for. Staff is extremely friendly and has been amazing with everything we've needed, from parking to directions to concierge to cleaning to just being so sweet and friendly, especially with our little girl. The hotel is less than a block from the Arlington t stop, so you've got easy access to pretty much any part of the city. The storage is a little lacking in the room and the bathroom is a little small, but most of that comes from trying to keep a clean look while keeping the original lines of the old hotel, which I can appreciate and thus forgive. Blackout curtains and a Keurig with coffee and tea were the things we loved the most about the room, I think! Very impressed, I would certainly stay here again.
This hotel was recently renovated. Although it was renovated to keep up with other trendy hotels in the area, it was done so cheaply. The fixtures in the bathroom were crooked or sagging. One of the handles on the night stand wad broken. The desk reminded me of grade school. There was also no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Overall this was a decently quiet hotel, but you could hear anyone walking or talking in the hallway. Not a bad stay but not an excellent one either.
When I booked the room supposed to be Deluxe but the room was so normal nothing deluxe in it, not super clean but ok, the room view wasn t good at all nothing in room to welcome the guests ( chocolate, candy or soda or anything)
The menu not good at all and Expensive and they charge for tv and internet service
Clean room. Very spacious. Lobby was amazing with upscale bar inside.
bathroom was extremely small but the room is nice and clean and it was centrally located to everything you could possibly want to do in Boston
I went here for a conference. The place is conveniently located. The staff were kind and friendly in offering directions and there's a bar downstairs if you want to chill or let loose.
Good large hotel that is centrality located. Clean rooms that are spacious.
Recent renovation went a long way. Very close to transit and attractions!
I booked a queen size bed because it was the most reasonable price. When I arrived, they upgraded it to a king size as a gratuity. Great service and great location.
Great place to stay and the breakfast is awesome there.
Definitely disappointing. The hotel itself was okay, the room was the issue. Our room did not have any soap, shampoo, conditioner, tissues, or facecloths. The shower was dirty so we wouldn't have showered anyways . Luckily I had shampoo in my travel bag so we could wash our hands at least. The pillows were very uncomfortable and the sheets/pillow covers were like sandpaper. We also had issues with our key not working, which was annoying but fine. I definitely will not be staying here again.
Good place to stay while exploring Boston. Clean rooms with decent views. Very large and elegant.
Signage was unclear for our event location from the first floor, but found the event upstairs. Otherwise the ballroom was very nice, and the staff were accommodating.
Very clean hotel with extremely friendly staff. My only problem is with how thin the walls are. Very noisy at times.
Nice historical hotel, parking across street is $40 for 24 hours
Great place, lively area of city. Very clean and modern. Chromecast in every room. Major plus.. there has been a Ferrari, a McLaren and a nice Porsche parked out front.
I booked this hotel with the hotel on a discount hook . I was very disappointed to find that they tack on a facilities fee unbenounced. When one books into a hotel one expects facilities; a bed, room, hot and cold water, internet, so what in the hell is a facilities fee? And why do they surprise you with it? Come on! Get confident in your ability to provide hospitality to people and make an honest charge.
For me a perfect hotel, friendly personal and top waiter by the bar. Delicious food and blue moon at the restaurant. The hotel has a great lokation to visit all important sites in town. I'll visit it again..
Overpriced for an ageing hotel room. Plus they made me pay a $20/night "facility fee" for access to internet and the gym, neither of which I used during my stay. Not a particularly special hotel and not a fan of hidden mandatory fees
Edit: Thank you for your response. Unfortunately I did not have the chance to see this additional fee when making the reservation because I did not make the reservation. It was made for me as I was visiting a client, so I had no idea I would have to pay an additional $40 facility fee. If you have additional fees required for room rental I suggest you add them to the room price up front instead of making the guest pay them on their card left for incidentals. Seems like a sneaky way of incorporating "required" hidden fees instead of adding them to the overall room price.
Small room, small bathroom. But excellent location for downtown Boston. You can go any where in 20minutes.
I travel to Boston at least 2x per month for work, and this is always my go-to hotel (despite status and rewards at larger chains).
The building and facility itself is beautiful, and the rooms are always extremely clean. Furthermore, every single employee from from desk to valet is polite, efficient, and do their jobs well. I had a MINOR incident the last time
I was there - easily fixed - and not only did they fix the issue, but two days later emailed me offering me a complementary night. I didn t ask for compensation, but certainly it was a welcome surprise.
Other added bonuses: the gym is exceptional, the bar is above average for a hotel. And the price is a great value. Location is also fantastic - walk to park, close to back bay... lots of places to eat and drink!
Write in the centre of Boston, beautiful ambience. Amazing staff. Excellent service. Lovely restaurant. Totally recommend this to everyone
This is one of the most premium options in the city, and a quick walk around the prestigious lobby shows. The main issue is the staff - any semblance of class and luxury is quickly shattered by how appallingly rude, disinterested and flawed the staff seems to be.
I attended a huge convention here (we raised over 25 thousand for a charity in just a weekend) and the absolute consensus was that the hotel staff were the weakest link.
While the convention staff clearly went above and beyond, you could tell the hotel staff was neither briefed at all by upper management or had zero interest in providing their guests a good experience.
I've been to biker bars that felt less threatening and felt more comfortable being the only person on the wrong side of political discussions with my husband's family that felt more welcoming than the staff at the Park Plaza.
For one thing, the rooms are "okay". Some of the towels and beddings were a bit shredded, worn, stained - certainly a match to the staff's demeanor towards the guests.
For another thing, a LOT of the convention attendees were hit with unexplainable extra fees and price increases that were never agreed upon/informed on. Someone was charged 1000 dollars over their original bill - and these are not room service charges or damage fees, these are just.. mistakes? Happening en masse, like I've never experienced before...
Another thing - they never bothered to separate the convention block from usual guests, which meant half the convention was being hit by noise complaints/eviction threats for doing nothing but chatting at a reasonable volume in their rooms past 10 pm. I don't blame the guests wanting some sleep, or the people paying premium to spend time having fun with their friends - I blame the most "prestigious" hotel in Boston for not knowing any better than any flea infested Motel 6 would.
There's the odd complaint about hotel security getting physical with people for no reason, but I always take that with a grain of salt.
All in all, between being extorted, threatened, judged by every single staffed pair of eyes - as much as I loved the convention - this hotel alone is a reason to avoid it.
Somebody once said something about class - how it's not gold and riches, it's not rituals or pomp - class is making the people around you feel comfortable. You, mister Park Plaza, have no class.
PS.: The cleaning ladies are nothing short of amazing - they're the most gregarious, genuinely polite and kind people on staff. Whatever disservice the front desk, security and staff in general has done for this hotel, they have balanced out.
I'd suggest the general manager swap the staff - have the cleaning ladies taking all manner of guest interaction positions, or maybe have them coach the rest of the staff on how to treat guests - they know that better than you do, mister general manager.
Very well located, but with VERY small rooms, of which you can not open the suitcase without jumping on the bed. Scarce breakfast Normal service and CPR.
Expensive for the mediocre quality, strange setup with paying for breakfast. Saw a reel of their "renovation" in their lobby, from a beautiful old classic building to their tacky present layout. Looks like a pair of nikes now. Was shouted at by a guy that helped us with the bags, because we couldn't tip. We were leaving, so had no cash left. Anyway, I'd choose an Airbnb over this any time.
All sparkling places of passage, then you find yourself very small rooms, without wardrobe, bathroom with the bottom internal door missing x humidity ...
Nice place. Staff always greet you with a smile. Cool location close to restaurants and fun things to do. Lobby decor is fancy. The rooms are a decent size (Closets are small though and there's no microwave).
Two stars ... because we got a late check-out and a discounted room because the people next door we're screaming at each other 2am-730 NO SLEEP!....rooms are NOT equipped for a woman or anyone that has to do makeup or hair..no counter or makeup mirror bathrooms are VERY small as some of the rooms are, a small shelf over the sink and toilet that slants so make sure toilet seat is closed or your tooth brush or something will fall in..very pricey! Why cause it's Boston!?..better off staying outside the city taking an Uber or the T in town
This is not luxury unless you pay way extra $$$$$$$ for it
While the room was clean and included basic amenities, the original price I paid for my stay turned out to have surprise costs not included in the original booking fee. For one, my booking claimed that the hotel had parking included, which upon arrival, I came to find out was a parking garage (not associated with the hotel) nearby that I d have to pay $40 to use for the night. In the morning I was unsure if my stay included breakfast, so I used the hotel phone in order to get an answer from the front desk. I asked if there was continental breakfast provided, and the gentleman confirmed there was a buffet style breakfast downstairs. The food was satisfactory at best and there was syrup in nice personal bottles but no pancakes (odd) but beggars can t be choosers I suppose. All in all, it was a bit tasteless but I was willing to accept it for what it was, until my significant other and I got slapped with a $55 check at the end. (For that price we could ve gone and gotten an extravagant breakfast elsewhere). My stay was fine otherwise, but I wish the hotel staff itself was more honest about their pricing and practices.
Small rooms. The bathroom was super small, without any plug and with a ridiculous shower. When showering you have to be very careful not to fill the entire floor with water.
The bed on the other hand was very comfortable and comfortable
Good ubication.
Spent St Patrick's weekend here, the price was very good and the hotel is well situated, we parked the car at the Boston Commons, which is quite cheap versus the other parkings around the hotel. The room was clean, the service great, the complimentary wifi was very appreciated, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because of the price of breakfast at the hotel, at 26$+service / person for the buffet, that's a high price for eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. I did appreciate the fact there was real mapple sirup and quality food, but still, one can just walk out and will find a "Au bon pain" around the corner.
Small rooms, but good bed and shower. Beautiful lobby / bar
Nice but charge $20/night facilities fee that's not mentioned during booking
Older but affordable with good vacation to accommodate wedding next door.
Hotel appearance did not disappoint, exterior very grand; interior classy, crisp & clean. Check-in staff were knowledgeable about trips & tourist hot spots to visit, they were also quick to serve, reducing any queues promptly & efficiently. Room was smaller than expected but (most importantly) was very clean with extremely comfortable beds + a great view! Food was expensive but the bar atmosphere was a unique opportunity to experience Boston banter at its finest! One issue with premium wi-fi charge (standard wi-fi free
with password) although hotel staff could not have been more helpful + waived the charge. Also given free water for 1 of our trips (small touch but appreciated!) Porter/concierge staff equally friendly, chatty & helpful.
While the price isn't too bad, the amenities are few.
Neither one of the bathrooms in the two rooms used by myself and my friends were ventilated. The thermostat did not seem to do anything at all. Perhaps it was simply hung on the wall, wired to nothing? The room I stayed in got pretty hot, and our only recourse was opening the window, exposing us to the noise of the Boston streets while we tried to sleep.
Despite hanging the 'do not disturb' sign on our doorknob, hotel staff clearly entered and tidied up. We were concerned that some of our electronics would be taken, but fortunately nothing was missing.
There are no water fountains to be found on any floor, including the lobby. The so-called 'complimentary breakfast" appeared to actually cost money.
I found it VERY surprising that you had to ask for WiFi access from the front desk (which I think required money as well). It's 2014, coffee shops offer it for free, why shouldn't the hotel?
On the positive side, the concierge desk was staffed with some very helpful people. When I was particularly parched one morning and still didn't want to pay for a bottle of water in the lobby, I asked the attending concierge to point me to a water fountain (knowing there was none). He offered to get me a glass of water from a source used by staff. So that was nice. On our last day in Boston, the two or three concierges handled our large number of bags efficiently.
The location of the hotel is excellent for getting to various restaurants, business and events downtown.
I saw nothing about a pool or spa.
Previous reviews have mentioned fire alarm and bug (NOT bed bug) problems, but we did not encounter any of those issues.
I would not recommend this hotel for groups (5+), business, or stays lasting longer than a day or two. They may cost more, but look for other hotels near this one for a possibly more pleasant stay.
I was there for Arisia so I don't have anything to say about the service at the hotel, but it's a lovely venue
Expensive, small room, no where to park, not worth it
I stayed here in February. Upon entering the hotel it appeared very nice and the check in staff was friendly. You are forced to let their staff help you with your luggage in order to use a cart which I didn't enjoy but whatever. Went to the bar to get breakfast and they did my order wrong 3 times in a row and when my drink was empty was never asked if I would like another. Had to flag down the gentleman to get the check so I could just leave. Security during my stay was rude, abusive and highly disrespectful. I was standing with friends while in a costume with limited visibility. And was shoved aside by their security staff without even being asked to move. Overheard them calling us nasty names and broke up a "Room party" of me and 2 others playing a board game. We felt lazy one night and even thought their overpriced menu was ridiculous we got pizza anyways. Food was no better than gas station pizza.. actually I enjoyed the 7-11 pizza more. we had about half the food left over when the next morning despite a do not disturb sign on the door the maid came into our room with us not there and took it away as trash. When I checked out I made all these complaints to the staff. She said she would let her manager know and I would receive an email about compensation. almost a month goes by. I got my credit card statement with no changes and no email. I call to ask about this and they have no record of me ever filing a complaint. I re explain this all to them and he tells me they refuse to refund me any money. To sum it up, Staff stole, Security was rude and abusive, Food is unsatisfying and overpirced. I would not suggest this hotel to anyone. If they want to change my mind. Try compensating for the wrongs you have done. Until then my review stays the same. -Unsatisfied customer
Great location and top notch staff. They really go that extra bit to make every guest happy with their stay. The rooms are a bit small but have been updated.
Excellent location we are in the center ... You can reach any destination in a short time ... The clean, quiet and comfortable rooms .. The bathroom very small perhaps too much .... A spectacular hall ... Excellent idea of free bottles of water available at the reception ... the rooms are equipped with a coffee maker.
Nice , booked a deluxe double room, but quite disappointed with guest services. Had to put up with a rude employee called Kshipra at the front desk who practically barked at me for asking her for a complimentary water bottle.
Great accommodations and super amazing location We loved our stay in Boston
The lobby looks very nice and the drinks taste good, but the employees are not usually very helpful, and it can be difficult to get service for drinks. Let's not forget about the bunch of little MICE running around the floor.
Large hotel but the room and bathroom was small and somewhat dated.
