The guide makes the difference with this sort of trip and Jason was world-class, showing genuine concern throughout to make sure our holiday was as interesting and perfect as possible. The accommodation in the rainforest (Sukao rainforest lodge) was outstanding. I wasn't expecting such comfort. We saw orang-utans, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and a rhinoceros hornbill. And we had the privilege of watching a giant turtle lay eggs, but the ride out was treacherous.

We were told the tour was fully booked on Dec, the sales girl rearranged us to another hotel, she said it was slightly different between these two and both hotels belong to same company, it turned out not just slightly difference,4 star VS 1 star, the staff admitted that they were totally two different company. Just felt to be fooled by sales people, Don't expect too much if you take 30 hrs flight from US there like us.
allows tourist to scare endangered wild life by flying drones within a few yards of monkeys high up in the trees. The monkeys were jumping away from a 15 meter high tree top just to escape. The person operating the drone did it again and again, whilst laughing. The staff did nothing. On a different boat nearby I and the whole boat called for him to stop, but him and the staff did not care. Disgraceful.
What a fantastic experience Borneo was. Thank you Oviera for putting together a perfect tailor made trip. Picking us from Sanadakan airport, taking us to Sepilok, the orang-utan rehabilitation center, Sukau resort Kinabatangan River and Danum Valley Rain forest lodge. The tours on the River gave us an abundance of wild life. From the pigmy elephant, orang-utans, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and various types of hornbills. All breath taking. At the Danum Valley we got to see orang-utans close up and enjoyed the tree top canopy walkways. All the tour guilds were amazing and couldn't have been more helpful, especially when we were on the hunt to find the pigmy elephants on the Kinabatangan river. Thank you for all the wonderful memories.
unforgettable experience, Borneo has a piece of my heart and i hope to return again in the future, the whole experience was made by the high standards and professional staff at Borneo Eco Tours, all the way from my first email to leaving on the day, any question was answered and my trip was Taylor made around my tight schedule and i was able to get in everything i wanted. the whole operation ran smooth, i didnt need to think for myself i was catered for the whole way. met some amazing people and the knowledge and passion of the staff towards conservation of the rainforest and its animals is special, i certainly want to do more to help its cause for such a special place in our planet.
We have a 9yr old and 13yr old boy and as a family normally do not book tours when we travel as it tends not to give you an individual or personal experience. Normally we go off road and remote such as New Guinea. We did Book with Borneo Eco Tours as we were limited for time, Mt Kinabalu Climb and Borneo Big Five as they guarantee smaller group bookings which worked out well. Worth paying extra for a small group booking as you see alot more of the wildlife and we were away from the big loud groups . We climbed Mt Kinabalu as a family of 4 with two guides. Particular thanks to Ahani our guide that assisted our 9yr old to the summit. From here we went onto do the Borneo Big 5. Every region in Borneo had completely different animals, landscapes and things to see. Mulu was Very unique and different well worth it. Head Hunters Trail A MUST. Mt Kinabalu a very arduous climb and very big achievement. Borneo Big 5 a great package and a great way to finish off our holiday with amazing animals. Borneo Eco Tours Service- One Child left a Head torch up Mt Kinabalu, Borneo Eco Tours located the torch and had it delivered to our hotel when we got back to Kota. The other child left an Ipod in one of the tour vans, the guide located this and had it transferred over 2 days to meet us at our last location. We Got to Sepilok Orang Utang sanctuary and due to a bear escaping and going for a walk it was closed (seriously). We were devastated. Eco tours organised other activities for us to do. We asked if they could organise for us to go back to the sanctuary if possibly as we did not want to miss it. For a nominal extra fee we skipped a morning river cruise and they organised for us to get picked up in a private van get transported back to Sepilok Sanctuary and then back to resume the rest of our tour. Booking a tour was well worth it and made our trip easy and enjoyable. Very difficult to organise all these activities on your own.
Currently still in Borneo yet felt the need to write a review. We booked 6 months ago for 2 nights at Sukau Rainforest Lodge and 3 nights at Borneo Rainforest Lodge in Danum Valley. I liaised with Jeremy from Borneo Eco Tours throughout the 6 months, altering the itinerary several times and I felt expertly advised at all times. EVERYTHING I requested was done, no issues. All the bookings were as promised, all transfers handled well and the guides and lodge staff were exemplary. If you want to plan the perfect trip to this wonderful place use these guys, ask for Jeremy at BET and request Adsel as a guide in Danum Valley!
Oviera and the team were so helpful after we missed our flight from KK to Sandakar. They fitted us into a tour the next day after we booked new flights. The trip was absolutely worth it, after having some up close and personal experiences with the Orangu Tans at the Sepilok Sanctuary after our guide Jamal held us back after the other tour parties had left. We booked direct from NZ and we will be coming back to join them in their longer jungle trips in the future.
Incredible experience. Can't rate this place enough. The guides are all so knowledgeable! Great food and service, friendliest of staff and the rooms are really nice and clean. Everything about this place is amazing and we didn't want to leave.
We had a fantastic tour to Sandakan. Borneo Eco Tours went out of their way to make sure we had a full day even when we had a late night flight back to KK. Our guide 'To was amazing and all communication and bookings done with Oviera was extremely professional. Would definitely recommend them.
Just returned from a fabulous 3 day trip to Sukau Rainforest Lodge with Borneo Eco Tours, and I was very impressed with all arrangements including an extension trip they organised to Bunga Raya Resort on Gaya Island. Everything went very smoothly, and everyone, including booking staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The lodge accommodation and food was amazing. We saw lots of wildlife, but unfortunately not the elusive pygmy elephants! We really enjoyed the sun bear sanctuary. We also did their newest tour quad biking in Kiulu country side and that was load of fun!. Hope to go back someday and would definitely use Borneo Eco Tours. Well done!
An amazing experience. This trip was high on my bucket list and fulfilled all expectations if not more. The trip was well organised from start to finish. The hotel to be honest needs a little updating, but the positives far outway the only minor negative point. The staff throughout were outstanding and nothing was too much trouble. friendly and helpful, The star of our trip must be Hazwan, our guide. From being picked up at the hotel to being dropped back on the final day, our guide Hazwan was exceptional - spotting wildlife with his incredible eyesight, his personality and sense of humour- a wonderful guide, giving ample time for photos and giving explanations..... his bird calls were excellent I would recommend this trip and company to anyone considering such a trip. Thanks so much to all involved
The company come across as been very organized, unfortunately they dont have any form of automated web booking and you must contact them via email, on our case has taken 2 days to receive the first reply. As we were trying to tailor our particular trip they response were very slow, 1 email reply every 24 hours . As we finally got the final stage of the quote and wanted to pay, we had to wait another day for then receive a reply saying " the tour is not longer available, who first come first serve" been our honeymoon we were extremely disappointed. We quickly contacted another local tour operator which they were super quick ( 2 hours to organize all), but it has also been 600 sterling cheaper for the same tours! If you can browse around.
Had a 3D2N in Sukau Lodge and enjoyed every minute of the stay. Staff and local guides are extremely helpful and informative about the rain forest Eco-system. You should definitely join the evening cruise as the wildlife will be more approachable. Local guides show us wild orang utan, Proboscis, Macaque, lot of different species of birds, namely Horn bills, kingfisher, etc. Accommodation is top class. Would definitely recommend it to friends.
We took a tour this October that included Sepilok ,Sukau forest ( Sukau rainforest lodge ) and Danum valley ( Borneo rainforest lodge ). The accomodation, food , services, cruises and safaries were of a good standard to ensure a happy end of the day journey for the two of us. The guides selected were experienced and had good knowledge of the flora and fauna of the area and excelled in finding the animals especially pygmy elephants. In summary, apart from the Borneo big 5 , we saw and photographed a variety of birds and mammals specific to this beautiful rainforest.
We had a fantastic time with Borneo Eco. The service was impeccable and all of the guides were friendly and knowledgable. Particularly Levi and Younis showed us a great time on the Turtle safari and taking us to local restaurants outside the tour schedule. We even changed the order of all the things we did and it was no problem. Highly recommended!!
Borneo Eco Tours are fantastic. Highly recommended! Our tour consultant Oviera was extremely helpful, offered advice tailored to our needs, and ensured no detail was overlooked. All guides were friendly and knowledgable. More importantly, they are all passionate about sustainable tourism, which is great to see. Special shout out to Eryanto, our guide for 3 days - an absolute champ. Thanks to him, we spotted all the big 5, and had a great time in Borneo.
Borneo Eco Tours organized an unforgettable 8 days trip in Sabah, Borneo. Everything was very well organized! Excellent service from the beginning to the end.
My tour was fantastic! I did an overnight tour into Kinabalu National Park including the Poring Hot Springs. My guide - Sheila - was wonderful. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you Borneo Eco Tours! I will definitely book again.
I cannot describe properly in words how great Adrian's Tour over Sabah was. His information was top notch, carried himself very well and was always in very high and humorous spirits across the duration of the tour. The tour made my first international experience one I will never forget. Thank you so much!
We planned a two day one night tour with Borneo Eco Tours well in advance of our trip to Malaysia. This included the hotel before and after in KK. From pick up to drop off at the airport everything was well organized. The night in the jungle was amazing and in our case the hikes were without rain and mosquitoes. When they write that it strenuous then it is. We all - 44 m, 43f less sportive and 20f pretty sportive - had our challenges with the hike. We did the BB5E LEMAING 2 PAMATANGAN 2D1N so stayed the night at the Pamantangan hut
The boat trips are like a live cinema of Kinabatangan wildlife. In our two-nights stay, we saw pygmy elephants, crocodiles, proboscis monkeys, snakes, plenty of beautiful birds, and one Orang Utan building the nest for the night. Walking in the jungle is an amazing experience but such open view of the animals is impossible - a stay on the river is the perfect complement to a trekking trip in the rainforest.
At the lodge, the atmoshphere is very cozy: the staff is genuinely friendly and kind, the guests are all there for the wildlife, the rooms are comfortable and charming, the food is simple but tasty. The staff heard that it was our honeymoon, so they beautifully decorated the room and prepared a special table on the river for us: TERIMA KASIH! :-)
A wonderful experience far better than I had imagined. The staff, guides,in fact everyone so friendly and helpful. The river trips were great, saw so much wildlife, orang utans, elephants, alligators, birds of all sorts, so many apes. Accommodation was clean and comfortable and the meals varied and very good. Would love to go again.
Thank you Oviena and the team at Borneo Eco Tours for proving my husband and me and our two grandchildren with a wonderful holiday in your country. Our time in Sabah and Sawawak was filled with amazing experiences and your tour guides were excellent. They were very knowledgeable, kind and always on time for tours and transfers. Our grandchildren learned so much. The visits to the orangutan centers were world class and we enjoyed the variety of activities as well as the excellent accommodation. In all, a truly memorable holiday.
My husband and I did the BB10B Sabah Wildlife Safari (8D7N) with Borneo Eco Tours and throughly enjoyed our experience. What really stood out is how seamlessly the entire tour was organised. We were met at every point (airport, lodge, multiple nature parks and wildlife centers) by friendly, warm and knowledgable drivers and guides. And every single one of them was on time, every time.
We managed to tick most of the wildlife we'd hoped to experience off our list, all except the pygmy elephant and rhinoceros hornbill (although we did see many other species of hornbills). A staff member at the lodge did say that the elephants haven't been spotted for the greater part of the year, so it may be more accurate to take this off the list of possible sightings? Having said that, our guides (especially Shah at Sukau Rainforest Lodge) had AMAZING skills and managed to spot so many animals, birds and crocs, which was amazing and so much fun!
It was also very clever of the company to plan our tour with lodges that kept getting better; we were delighted with each improvement and appreciated the increased luxury with each move. :)
2 points for improvement: 1. Our stay at Sepilok Nature Reserve was not great and we didn't enjoy either good service or food. Staff at this lodge were careless and not very service-oriented. We were also served food that was pretty sub-par, including milk that had expired by 3 weeks. It may be time to consider another partner lodge at Sepilok? 2. Food at Borneo Rainforest Lodge was by far the best across the 3 lodges we stayed at. I'm not sure if there's opportunity for Borneo Eco Tours to influence the kitchens at Sukau Rainforest Lodge but an improvement in food there would be fab! While we got decent food, the monotony got very boring after day 2.
All in all, we would gladly travel with Borneo Eco Tours again and highly recommend them!
Amazing experience. The boat safaris and walks were all expertly guided. We did 5 nights in total across 2 lodges and saw loads including 7 separate orangutan sightings. Whilst the trip cost a substantial amount of money I thought it was well worth it for a really unique experience.
I have nothing but praise for Borneo Eco Tours. A group of 4 female friends, in their 60's,we booked the 2 night stay at the Sukau lodge, the Kota Kinabulu city tour, and airport transfers for KK and Sandakan. We were picked up promptly, and our guides, Joy, for the 2 night stay, and Jason, for the city tour, were both professional, knowledgeable and delightful. I would not hesitate to recommend Borneo Eco tours based on our experience.
We had a fabulous trip in Borne. Borneo Eco Tours arranged our trip to climb Mt Kinabalu and our jungle lodge for 3 days. Our guides in Sandakan were great as well as our guide in the jungle and on the mountain. All transport was on time and moved quickly, bags transferred easily and communication was easy. We only wish we could have continued to explore more of Borneo and what Eco Tours had to offer.
We travelled as a family with 2 children. Easy to do so. The organisation with oviera was perfect. The people in the sukau rainforest resort are really friendly and helpful. The guides were all great, with good knowledge of fauna and flora. It was a nice experience, just a few remarks. Borneo eco tours always talks about the importance of ecological thinking but when we were having a really great tour outside, our bus parked on the parking lodge was running because of the air condition for the driver. This is not ecological thinking. And on the different kind of tours in the river they never used the electrical motor, although it was written everywhere, always running with the gasoline motor. And it was written that when you go on a night tour, you get a cd with 214 pictures. When i asked for these after the tour, they just told me that was just a promotion a long time ago....so please update your things.
Great tour so efficient and our tour guide was amazing and very informative. We would definitely use these guys again and wish we were in Borneo for longer and were able to do more tours.
Basically the place was easy to find and the staff especially the HR sister that we meet was very kind and friendly. They did provide the best packages and product.
We just got bumped. We were booking late notice (12 days before tour departure) and had to chase the confirmation. I explained: no problem if you cant take us on a tour, but just let us know so that we can find somewhere else. Staff kept us hanging on. Eventually we got the confirmation! Now, on the day of departure to Malaysia (5 days after booking through the site) we got an email informing us that after double checking we cant go. Do you have different dates? Not even a sorry. I'd explained we had a tight time slot. This could seriously ruin someones holiday, so make sure you follow-up with them and book far in advance.
I booked my tour with borneo eco tours last year. I was worried about booking and paying for everything from the UK but this was totally fine. The admin office were quick to reply to all my emails (Prisca), they helped me plan a 5 day itinerary. We went to sarawak and had the best time. Our tour guide Peter was fantastic! He had so many stories for us, he made the whole experience worthwhile! I didnt want to leave after 5 days. We visited the orangutan sanctuary, the caves, pepper farms, Iban longhouse, Batang Ai and the sarawak culture Village! Thank you guys for making our trip amazing!!!
We travelled across Sabah for two weeks as a family of 5 (children 13,10,7) and had a super time. Danella was very helpful organising it. We did a homestay which was interesting and good fun (although very basic as you expect) and then did the Sakau Rainforest Lodge for a couple of nights, which was excellent. Finally we did Mabul Island and Sipadan for scuba diving, which was also great. Do note though that you don't get a refund if you cancel in the last month....there is a security risk (see Foreign Office website) on East Sabah and this was not made very clear. However, we survived and had a great time.
We are a group of four women from Australia. We stayed at Sandakan and KK, and the day tours were well organised and we saw some good stuff. The hotel at Sandakan was lovely. The KK hotel was ordinary, with terrible food. A highlight was a fantastic day with Britney the guide and Freddy the driver, up to Mt Kinabalu, Poring Hot Springs Canopy walk and the Botanical Gardens. Britney was a very considerate, knowledgable guide, with a great sense of humour. We felt very lucky to get such terrific genuine attention and education from a truly talented young local man. Well done, Borneo Eco Tours!
This experience was one of a lifetime! It was well organised and wasn't rushed. My partner and i were the only people within the group so it is private and our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely recommend.
We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts as the three day experience in the jungle we did was truly magical. Fadhira, the lady with I was in contact with before departing was superb, she made us feel confortable and safe plus she was super fast at replying at every email (there were many, her patience was infinite), not to talk about how amazing and passionate the guides are, you can feel the respect and love for nature in every single word they speak (Fernando is super). I would suggest to do any extra activity is offered as everybody is there to make your experience memorable. The kindness, availability and professionalism of the staff was impressive as well. So thank you thank you thank you for giving us the change to experience nature in all its beauty and greatness whilst being super pampered. We are hoping to see you soon, Gaia and Federico
We have booked day tour to Kinabalu National Park. We had great time. Our guide has been very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend Borneo Eco tour.
We worked with Borneo Eco Tours to design a custom trip that matched the itinerary used by National Geographic. Everything was truly perfect from the planning to the actual trip. All the pick-ups within Borneo were on time and all the excursions were as described. The guides were very knowledgeable and fun to be with. We loved every minute. The best part is that the price for two was $8,800 US less than National Geographic and 11 days longer. We stayed at the same rain forest lodges used by National Geographic. I highly recommend Borneo Eco Tours to anyone.
Borneo eco tours is an amazing company. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They are passionate about animals and conobservation.
I did the 4 day 3 night wild life tour and was pleasantly amazed with what i saw and in information provided. I had Levi as my guide on turtle island who answered all questions and gave me a great understanding of the turtles and a bit if Borneo history.
I was on one of the boats that they had an issue with but due to great professionalism was rectified quickly. I was then lead by Jamanji at the rainforest lodge. Very knowledgeable and personable guy. Once again he was passionate about making sure all aspects of the trip went smoothly and guests saw as much wildlife as possible.
All in all an amazing trip i would recommend to anyone traveling to Borneo. Wonderful place with wonderful people.
