Amazing steak, lobster, salad, mashed potatoes in a beautiful, classy, contemporary setting!
Enjoyed the food with the exception of NO AJUS FOR PRIME RIB!
The tables were not adequate for a party of 4.
Need to supply Local Breweries Beer.
This place is better than I expected. The atmosphere is amazing. Tip: this is one place you will want to sit inside. The food is out of this world and the service is even better. If you are a whiskey drinker get the Little Italy, you will go home very happy.
Dude what can I say besides OMG every dish was so good!
We were very excited to try this place, sadly all the hype is for nothing. It all starts and ends at the decor, which is very nice. Food is below par, nothing to brag about. Service is good considering you are paying above and beyond for very stansard food. Bathrooms are hazardous, very slippery. You are on your own if you fall and get HURT. My sister fell in their unsafe slippery bathroom, we told them straightaway, guess what, not even an apology, my sister suffered 2 broken ribs, not even a phone call from their manager who promised that someone will be in touch. Very disrespectful and inconsiderate.
Most overrated Steak in history!
The service is great, as is the upstairs open air dining. The appatisers, salads and side dishes were also excellent, but as this is a Steak House that advertizes their aged steaks, my wife and I, along with both tables next to us, were extremely disappointed.
The Aged Rib Eye ($69) was excessively fatty, and dispite a nice heavy duty knife to cut the chewy fatty steak with, it was still a workout to cut the steak into edible pieces.
The Aged Steak is hopefully a passing fad, as it's the most over rated thing to hit San Diego since Leaf Ryan!!!
Came here for the first time tonight. The ambiance and decor had a very luxurious 1920s Gatsby vibe. Perfect setting for romantic date night or to celebrate with a small, intimate group of friends.
Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed with the super slow, lackluster service and quality of steak at Born and Raised.
Our reservation was at 6:15pm. We arrived 5 mins early and were seated quickly. We ordered a couple cocktails and our server, Robert, brought us our drinks prior to ordering dinner. We asked him for his recommendations and decide to order the dry aged meatballs, beets, Japanese wagyu, bone-in ribeye and dirty hash browns as a side.
15 mins later, our starters come out. The dry-aged meatball was sinfully delicious and a hit. The beets were good but I probably wouldn't order them again. After the starters were cleared, we were excited for out main course. I saw a few other couples being seated around us. We chatted, waited and saw that the people being seated after us got their starters and some got their steak before us. I was starting to get a little impatient.
We eagerly waited OVER AN HOUR (after we finished our starters) for the wagyu, ribeye and dirty hash-browns to arrive. The wagyu was $21/oz and it was melt in your mouth amazing. The ribeye was topped with some white, creamy topping which confused me. The server said it was prepared "Oscar-style" meaning topped with a creamy crab side which is how he liked his steak. I was annoyed because even though we asked him for his recommendations earlier, we didn't order it Oscar style and he never confirmed with us if we wanted it served that way. I was pretty shocked he would do that because I know quite a few people with shellfish allergies. Unfortunately, I didn't like it Oscar-style and it ruined the taste of the steak for me. Should have sent it back when I first saw it like that but I didn't want to be a jerk and felt like maybe it was a miscommunication when I asked Robert for his recommendation. What was even more disappointing was that the steak had no bone but instead had big chunks of fat, literally inches of pure fat all over. I'm a huge fan of ribeye and usually love the rich, fatty cut but this was not marbled fat. It was nothing like the juicy marbled wagyu we had earlier. Over 40% of the steak was inedible due to the blocks of pure fat.
We brought it to our server's attention and he took it back to the kitchen. He said they ended up tossing it and instead of remedying the situation, he took $15 off the bill. This was a $88 steak, normally $67 for the dry-aged bone-in but the server made it "Oscar style" without our permission and up-charged us. Our steak also didn't have a bone and the server said that was because they removed the bone when they pre-cut our steaks. What?! That's never happened before at any other steakhouses. And from the photos I see on yelp, that's not how a bone-in is served.
I wonder if we got the wrong steak and instead of our server admitting to a mistake, just played dumb and went along with it.
By this point, people who sat after us were leaving before us. We waiting another 30-40 mins for our dessert to come out and by the time we left the restaurant, it was 9:20pm. This dinner took over 3 hours.
I was very excited to try this place out and had high hopes. I even told my boyfriend when looking at the menu that I wanted to come back to try the duck dinner for 2 or beef Wellington next time. The ultra slow service and poor customer service killed the whole experience for me. I'm giving Born and Raised 2 stars for the beautiful interior and that's it. I know this is an upscale restaurant but the high price didn't match the quality of food we received along with the service we expected.
I'm hoping if management cares about the reputation of BAR, they will read this and take action to make sure this doesn't keep happening because it could potentially cause them to lose a lot of repeat business.
The perfect destination for a celebratory dinner! Table-side food service is phenomenal, all the wait staff is very professionally trained and the atmosphere is a perfect mix of classic steak house with a modern twist.
This place is wonderful! The food, service and ambiance is 5 star!
Great service, amazing food and beautiful ambiance!
I was extremely disappointed with this restaurant. It was so noisy that I could hear the music and patrons outside of the restaurant before I even entered. I had a difficult time hearing my husband and the server. The staff is ill trained and does not know what goes into the dishes they serve. I asked for oil and vinegar for my salad and they brought me the regular dressing on the side. It took a while to get my dressing plus the original salad was incorrect. When my entre did arrive the meat was lukewarm and my lobster was cold. I asked for drawn butter and was served whipped instead and told that they did not have drawn butter. That whipped butter was all they had. Then the staff brought me drawn butter and told me he thought I said brown butter . I doubt that he even knows what brown butter is. Usually we have a drink or two and coffee after dinner. The atmosphere was so unpleasant that we left to get coffee somewhere else. This dinner was part of my birthday celebration and it was anything but. If you are looking for a trendy restaurant that s lacking in service and food preparation but has ear splitting modern music this is the place for you. If you want an adult atmosphere with refineded service and esquisite food go to Morton s instead.
Had a great experience. Great location restaurant was designed beautifully. Wonderful customer service would highly recommend.
I was born and raised to understand what is quality and what is not. Don't rely on flash. The appetizers I had were lackluster. Great flash, beautiful place. Impeccably dressed people. I just felt the appetizers I spent a ton of money on at the bar we're not worth it.
Classy and top notch. The top level area is super cool. Well recommended for a business diner.
good place to relax and unwind. similar to a cafe in las vegas i liked.
Amazing decor. Fantastic drinks. Great staff and bartenders. Great service all around. Good appetizers.
Fit out and restaurant at large is amazing.. .food is average, bland and uninteresting, oh and expensive. Service is ok...Go in with average expectations and youll have a great night....
Happy hour on the roof terrace: amazing, good deals, nice view. Will be back.
Great option for happy hour in downtown. We had just oysters and a spritz in the terrace. Amazing design by Basile Studio and really good crew
Excellent service and food. On the high end side but worth the money if you can afford it. We reserved online last minute for an early dinner.
We just left this restaurant for my husbands birthday. Our dinner took 3hrs and 45 min!! We waited over an hour for our steaks, and people who were seated after us left before our main course was served. The food was uninspired and uninteresting, with no dish standing out as even good. The Cesar salad was table-side but bland and unimpressive. Overall a very expensive and LONG meal with sub-par food. Save your money and go to Ruth Chris!!
Beautiful sunset in Little Italy, at Born and Raised.
The new take on a classic steakhouse is a breath of fresh air. The tableside items are delicious. The steak was one of the best I have had in a while.
Omg there is not 6 stars? Ok well 5 it is. 1 of the best steaks I ever had. In fact I ate a dry aged bone in ribeye the a NY steak both amazing. Fantastic service! Great views out side on the rooftop with cozy booths and heaters for chilly nights. Cant wait to go back.
Steak Diane prepared tableside!
Yum!
The food was awesome. The service was a 10. The manager made us feel welcomed.
Exceptional food from beginning to end. Roberto was an amazing and super attentive server .
Highly recommend going there.
We only came to the bar, and the outdoors rooftop bar was not disappointing. Bartenders were friendly, quick and excellent. Drinks are pricey but delicious and worth it. Would recommend as the bar area upstairs is simply spectacular.
The steak was pretty good, but it wasn't amazing. When you are paying $65 -$130 for steak, it should be amazing. The service was incredible. Our server team was fantastic. Really, truly they made the night. Don't order the ice cream, although it is fun to watch them make it tableside, it's not good. The cheesecake and carrot cake were the best desserts. As far as sides go, the Mac and Cheese was probably the most flavorful thing we had. It was delicious. The potatoes were really good too.
Every piece of food is artfully made to perfection, pricey but worth every penny in my opinion. Drag good friends and/or family and you are bound to have a good time
So glad I opted to eat here! There are so many choices in Little Italy, San Diego. This one is less "Italian," in menu offerings, but definitely one-of-a-kind. I went with the following recommendations from the waiter, and they didn't disappoint: corn chowder, snails and toast, and whipped potatoes. They have many "tableside," options as well - everything from martinis and manhattans - to steak tartare and omelettes made on a cart by your table. Definitely check out their rooftop bar! One of the most beautifully designed and decorated restaurants I've seen in awhile.
Excellent meal. Service was outstanding. My steak took quite a while- busy night. They are doing a TON of things RIGHT here. One pretty big flaw is the restroom location. Restrooms are upstairs, very cool, but very small and inadequate for the level of service and sheer amount of people in this place. If you're sitting downstairs in the main restaurant, it is an issue. BUT, this place is top notch...
On the pricier side, but well worth it. You'll be treated like the king or queen you are. Bone in NY was delicious and more than enough for even the hungriest. The meatball appetizer was delish as well!
Tasteful decor, charming bartenders and delicious cocktails. The cheesecake is decadent. Classy all around. Good for any occasion.
Wow!
What more to say......absolutely FANTASTIC!
Holy balls, this place is great. It's an upscale steak house where the wait staff is extremely well educated on the menu, they don't rush to clear plates, everyone is friendly and the food is amazing. To top it off, and maybe most importantly for me, there's nothing stuffy about it all, they take the food and experience super seriously but aren't at all pretentious about it. Save your pennies and go here.
Probably one of the most beautiful and architectural prettiest restaurants on San Diego. It s a combination of class wit a little humor. The downstairs restaurant and bar make you feel like an socialite in the 1920 s. The upstairs eating area and bar have amazing San Diego views. The male servers, bartenders ect wear tuxedo on the top then shorts and converse on the bottom. The bathrooms have funny sayings on the gold glittery toilet seats that you can easily miss. I have had better steaks elsewhere If I m being honest. Their table side steak tartare though is some of the best I ve had. Service is on point!!!!! I definitely say go, drink eat and enjoy yourself.
what an awesome place! I ve been to a fair amount steak houses and this one truly stands out. The decor is amazing. The food and service were top notch.
Exquisite food and great service
Rib eye and filet done perfectly.
The venue is modern/sleek but service is terrible, from bartender to manager it was a terrible experience. We were in town for conference, group of 15 and just got back service.
My new goal in life is to have a golden bathroom like this one with a toilet that says sit on my face. Attempted to have dessert at the bar, but was denied. However, the woman at the table next to use who devoured a slice of cheesecake the size of her head looked highly satisfied.
Fantastic restaurant and bar. Lots of energy in this place, loudest I've ever experienced. Steaks and drinks of all types are great
Went there with my girlfriend on a whim. We were under dressed and just ordered beers, but we were treated very well and it felt special. I will come back. The wait staff was top notch and they kept checking in on us even after we paid. Not many of these places left.
I was invited to eat steak on my Birthday at Born & Raised, and it was the best experience from A-Z! Premium everything, if you like perfection in details don't hesitate to pick Born & Raised. We got water refils before even turning our heads, Crystal clear ice cubes in our cocktail drinks, the Steak... The picture sais it all, just as requested. Our waiter was amazing, Thank you! Cheers
It was like being in s movie. Food and service were phenomenal. Well worth the price.
Very savory. The staff was very friendly and attentive. It has a cool feel to it.
The best!!!! The appetizers are to die for. The wagyu was out of this world. Drinks are so well crafted. Service is five stars. Ambiance is on point. I recommend eating upstairs if possible . We have been about four times. All wonderful experiences. We have it down to a science we think. Order a few amazing appetizers (don t sleep on the uni spaghetti appetizer, the most al dente amazingness eber) , then have the wagyu, and finally finish with their espresso chocolate pudding dessert (that s not the exact name but you get the gist )
It lived up to the hype. All of my friends said this was a can't miss dinner spot in San Diego.
The table-side Caesar was great.
Ribeye, too big to finish.
Mac and cheese - hell yes.
Wife loves her halibut and gnocchi.
Service was six-star!
Love this place. I am coming back for date night. Love the rooftop bar area.
This is the NEW HOT spot in "Little Italy", San Diego. It took us a month on the waiting list to get in. I provided photos of our experience, upstairs view and ambience. Plan on dropping $150/person is correct we were a little less.
I hear they put 6.5 million into every nuance.
The menu is one of my pictures. They prepare tableside to all orders in the circle section of the menu. .
We all at various steaks. 2 ribeyes, 1 filet, and a Tournedous Rossini ( with fois gras & shaved truffles) that was mine! Yummy! In addition to that we had Appetizers, shrimp Louis salad, steak tartar, and Crab claws. And this wonderful Puffy bread like a Yorkshire pudding.
They know how to make an awesome drink. The bar staff is very talented with tricks!
Brian was our professional waiter. He did a fine job for a party of six.
This is an upscale place we all voted a 9 out of 10. We all dressed up, and the staff wore tuxedos.
Plan on 2-3 hours of spoiling. Great views upstairs! Airplanes to the right, Christmas lights downtown to the left. Valet parking is offered too. Enjoy your night out!

Absolutely amazing place! Table side made fresh cesar salad and Wellington...beef Wellington... absolutely melts in your mouth! Bartenders amazing and make some delicious cocktails! Reservations highly recommended. The olace has been packed 15 min afyer opening!
Only had drinks here and they have a wide selection of cocktails and we'll drinks. This is not a place to get craft beer. Service was good the rooftop bar is very nice and great spot to hangout.
Wonderful staff and a great sommelier helped me. The sampler platter is the way to go to try wagyu steak at a reasonable price. Atmosphere is gorgeous.
The potato side was worth every penny. Just look at the gorgeous steaks, and the beautiful ambience in my photos! Perfect for a fancy date or special occasion. The staff are wonderful. I will return again!
An experience that shouldn't be missed. Sample the Japanese and American Wagyu beef side by side, order a carefully crafted tableside cocktail, and enjoy the photos of iconic rappers hanging around the building.
Such a romantic place. Service was great, good delicious, reservation process a breeze. The hunny and I had filet mignon and lobster - cooked perfectly. Had tableside ice cream - wonderful presentation. A very memorable place and evening for sure!
This place has the most unique feel to it. The woodwork inside, the decorating and even the way the employees dress. All around great place. Great environment with a classy feel and the people that come to this place have an uppity character as well.
This place is the BOMB!!! ,OUTSTANDING the food was on point, service for a king, decor inviting, warm, soothing, upstairs is a whole different animal, I will be back again again again
This place is all about the tomahawk...and it's amazing!
Love this place. highly recomended..steak n cheese cake, cant go wrong. Food on point, drinks delicious.ill b back.........
A unique experience with San Diego's best steaks and ambiance to offer.
Its placed in a very relaxing setting pricey though
Great for drinks on the roof top but did not have a chance to try the food yet, next time for sure.
I just had drink there.I wanted to see 7 million dollars interior. just wow.
So good. Burgundy escargot and bone marrow was delicious, as was the dry aged ribeye
Pretty restaurant, great out door view. Food was good. Wasnt crazy about there mac n cheese and I love mac n cheese but overall good food and service.
Best steak house I've been to. The servers really know the menu and can give you an honest opinion. This place is a must if you want to say "wow".
3 star because my friend ordered a rye whiskey and he was given a bourbon, when he called that out ...they said sorry we are out the of rye.. that is really not something I appreciate. Be honest in the first place, please dont try and sell something else assuming people cant figure out. Otherwise some really good steaks, did the 18 oz steak med rare and it was so freaking good!! :)
Born and raised was an experience, the food and location were amazing and the drinks were good. The one negative thing I have to say and this might have been because of the the decent size group was that it took entirely way to long to get our dishes and food. I was at the restaurant at 5:45 on a Wednesday and it took about four hours to get all dishes and the check. overall due to the higher prices I will most likely not come back unless for a cocktail or special event. Still I give them five stars because it was an experience.
AHHHH-MAZING!!! Went for my birthday. We've been to our share of steak houses, but daaayyumm!!! This one is the cream of the crop! Fantastic! Had the bread app, filet, whipped potatoes, gnocchi, and cheesecake. Everything, just wow! And I'm a nurse, so had to go with "The corpse reviver" cocktail. Trying to think of an occasion to go back already!
Takes you back in time to the 1930's with the decor. Great food and atmosphere. A little on the pricy side but worth it for good occasions
nice place , nice drinks comfortable bar, we just went for cocktails and they were excellent
Wonderful food, service, & vibes! We sat at the bar & our server was awesome. He had personality & knowledge (GREAT combo) which I appreciate coming from the service industry myself. I highly recommend valeting your car because the parking is rough, even on a Monday- which says a lot about how yummy the food is. Will definitely be back for the crab legs with their INSANELY good hollandaise.
Really knowledgeable staff and great service. The restaurant itself is beautiful and unique. However, the food is just so so. Lobster was over cooked. Flavor profiles are basically nonexistent. Mashed potatoes were runny. Not impressed. We have had much better food for a 1/3 of the price.
The place was fun and in a great location if you want to have a fun night on the town. It was a date night for me and wifey, we sat upstairs, but the tables were too close for me. For what they claim to be, their food was just ok. I'll say this if this is your first ever fine dining/high end steak place you'll love it. I feel bad for not loving it, everything was good. However, I've been to much better steak houses. Sides were just okay. Their cocktails were good, but it's alcohol, hard to mess that up. Service was great, the sneakers are a fun touch. I felt we never had to look for a server. However it is a restaurant and the food has to be fire. I'd go again with fiends for the cocktails and atmosphere, but not the food.
This place is expensive for the value. Small portions, food taste is on par with other nearby restaurants, ambience is typical hipster restaurant (exposed piping, rusted metal etc.) Happy hour is half off, makes the place more attractive.
