The food and service was exemplary! The wine list is extensive. It's also a visual feast for the eyes. Opulent and exquisite are words that immediately come to mind. Lead Sommelier, Rafael Peterson, is both personable and well-educated. His More

Interesting place. Great atmosphere. Beautiful building Delicious salad - be sure to order rare if you want ant to see pink in your meat. I ordered dessert and coffee. The dessert came in 5 minutes- the coffee 10 minutes later after the dessert. I was ready to leave by the time my coffee came. No one was paying attention People were literally waving to get the bar tenders attention.

Food was amazing, but their tabled are godawful. The base of the support column is a giant cone that's nearly the size of the table top, which makes it so that there is nowhere to put your inside foot if you're sitting on one of the booth ends. It's the next morning and I'm still sore from hurt by my knees on the underside of the table and twisting my leg to fit into my seat. Amazing food, terrible ergonomics.

This review would be 5 stars, however every time we go to B&R and order burgers (they re truly the best in San Diego, and also happen to be the least expensive meal on the menu) the servers have major attitudes. This has happened 3 times - we have also gone several other times and ordered the more expensive dishes, and the servers treat us completely differently. The last time we went, we had friends with us and 2 of us ordered burgers... the server claimed they were completely out and then when we noticed other tables getting them, the server said they might have one left and was extremely short with us. B&R has so much going for it - just treat your customers well regardless of the meals they choose to order, and don t try to up sell.

Nice looking place with an extensive drink list. Typical crowded and loud downtown bar however, so the 3 stars is purely to reflect my dislike for loud packed places, but welcome to california.

These type of restaurants are very hard to review. Atmosphere and service (I sat at bar and Travis was great) are worthy of 5 stars and it's the reason I gave it 4 stars total. If you generally dine at chains or 3 star caliber restos you will give this a 5. If you generally eat at 5 star places the food here is a 3. Uni appetizer was smothered in a chili sauce that made all other flavors imperceptible. Same goes for hashbrowns with creme fraiche. If you love creme fraiche you will think this is amazing but if you actually want to taste the hashbrowns you will be disappointed. Filet was cooked perfectly and was a quality piece of beef.

Beautiful Place; Delicious Food ... This "steak house" is not just for steak lovers. The food menu is varied, as is the wine and cocktail list. Don't see your favorite cocktails? The tuxedo-clad bartender will make it for you. Despite the upscale look of the restaurant, and the tuxedo-wearing staff, the place is not at all stuffy. Go there for fun and good food, and don't forget to go to the rooftop bar/lounge for a cocktail and great views

Amazing meal and atmosphere. Their steaks are cooked to perfection, the staff is so kind and helpful, and the decor is so lavish and beautiful. If you take in all the details you can see how the place added up to 6 million dollars; but totally worth it. Best prime rib in San Diego.

Experienced Born and Raised for the first time last night. It was my wife s birthday and I really wanted to take her some place special. The experience blew us both away. Aurora was our first point of contact and she was not only professional and kind, but went way above and beyond to make our night incredible.

We had at least seven different staff members stop by to wish my wife a happy birthday in addition to a birthday card that they wrote for her. It felt like the ritz Carlton of dining.

The food was out of this world too. Steak tartare, escargot, dry aged ribeye, and cocktails were hitting all the tastebuds.

Thanks again for such a great night and a special thanks to Aurora for taking care of us.

Born and Raised rooftop bar is where it's at! Great ambiance and fancy drinks. Most of the tables are reserved, so if you're planning on staying there for a while, even just for drinks, definitely get a reservation. Overall, centrally located and definitely a must-see when in San Diego!

Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful architecture and design. They have many items that are made table side- from drinks to salads to steak to Ice cream. We had the tableside caesar and it was soo good. Hot mint towels were brought to wash off our hands after shrimp cocktail. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned and each of the sides absolutely wonderful. The Mac& cheese was the best I ve ever had. Great place for a special night out.

Definitely an experience for my 30th birthday. Amazing service. We had our main server, someone who set the table, someone who made our salad, someone who brought around the dessert cart, another person to make table side ice cream. It was an incredible group effort. The drink choices were a little too fancy for me, but the food was great. I wanted the prime rib, but they were all out. I guess I have to make another visit!

This is the place to see in San Diego. The food, the drink, the design; it is spot on. You re missing out if you skip this place. Gabriel was our server and his attitude set the tone for the night. You re lucky if he is your server. Do what you can to find a spot in this place

My husband called to book my 50th birthday party here. I've eaten here before and love the restaurant. We were having 18 people in our party and this was the only place I wanted to go. When my husband called, they gave him the run around for several days because of the "size of our group". When he finally got an answer back, he was told they don't serve parties bigger than 10 people. When he asked for two tables of 10, he was told "it didn't work that way". When he explained this was a special occasion and my birthday request, they were unfazed & uncaring. When he asked if he could somehow book the outside dining area for an early dinner for just a few hours, the price to do that was $30,000. Thanks for ruining my special day. Will never come back and make sure everyone knows how you really treat your customers.

Absolutely amazing food. Everything is extremely fresh. In fact, some things are mixed at your table right in front of you.
It is a more formal type of environment. Dress is business casual. Prices are on the higher side - but well worth it.
Love the upstairs bar area, also - very impressive.
Probably will eat there again, next time we're in town.

We were looking for a good place to eat dinner on our last night in town and this was it. I had one of the steaks which was excellent and my wife had another dish that she couldn't stop talking about. The cocktails mixed tableside were a lot of fun and the overall experience was memorable.

Very beautiful restaurant great appetizers and happy hour in the late afternoon. The price is really reasonable. You do need reservation for dinner. Enjoy the moment and the experience.

A place to see and be seen on a Friday night. Ideally located in the eminently walkable streets of little Italy. Trappings of black and gold with flashy mirrors and formally dressed restraunt staff give an air of 1920s glitz and glam. Expertly made cocktails go right along with the classy aesthetic and the open air second story with excellent views of the San Diego skyline sets the tone for anyone thinking about a night on the town.

A gorgeous Steakhouse that makes you travel back a century. It is not just delectable food, it is an unforgettable gastronomic experience. I tried 4 different appetizers; the shrimp cocktail, crudo, dry aged meatball and the steak tartare which is on the tableside service menu. The tableside service is entertaining, I would order the steak tartare as an appetizer, the Steak Diane as an entree and ice cream for dessert. The rooftop has great ambiance & wonderful view of Downtown SD. The service was just as fantastic as the food; it is pricey but totally worth it.

This was a highly touted place in San Diego. Our party couldn't figure out why except that it's the hot new expensive place to go. Food was just okay, nothing any great steakhouse doesn't do. The atmosphere is unique. The big spoiler of the evening was the ear-splittingly loud rap music. And I mean LOUD. It seemed out of place. None of our party could talk to one another. We're not old and we like loud music & rap...just not in this venue.

I usually never leave reviews for anything but I wanted to share how wonderful of an experience I had at this restaurant. From drinks, appetizers, dinner, and desserts, this place did not disappoint in the least. I will be coming here again.

I gave 4 stars because the place is way too crowded. They should expand or limit the amount of people they allow in the bar. The drinks are tasty. As someone who enjoys a few cocktails I know that not all drinks can be tasty so I was very impressed.

We went there just for cocktails. The cocktails were priced at about $20 per and they were awful. The vibe was very glam and glitzy but it looked like part of the uniform included shorts for the bartenders in basically a tux.

We ended up in Little Italy for happy hour on Valentine s Day with no Dinner reservation. We walked by and asked if they could fit us in. Kindness goes a long way, they got us a beautiful rooftop table with furry chairs and a heater to keep us warm. Just being there was so romantic The food and service was superb. Both our dinners were amazing. We had a filet and a Wagu beef with veggies, a lovely bottle of red wine and shared a slice of their 7 layer carrot cake. It was a perfect evening. Highly recommend this place for a special evening.

This place could be the best steak house in San Diego right now. Located right in the heart of Little Italy, it offers a great mix between a terrific room and ambiance along with really well-prepared food. When first walking in, it almost seems an over-the-top Golden aged ocean liner. It's almost too cheesy, but if you just take it all in and embrace it you understand the vibe they are trying to create.

I typically head to the left and straight up the stairs because they feature an unbelievably cool open air bar area that is the perfect place to get a cocktail before sitting down to eat. Speaking of the upstairs... it's actually the best place in my opinion to enjoy your meal as it offers again great ambiance and style along with an that San Diego view to go with it. It's not cheap that use really high-end ingredients and all it's a steakhouse they feature a bunch of great veggie side dishes and sensitive San Diego a tons of seafood options on the menu also. If you're looking for a really well done steak house in the middle of downtown San Diego this is where the locals go.

Making a reservation via phone is a challenge/almost impossible. I found the best way to contact them is through Yelp. I was able to schedule a birthday celebration of 9 people on the beautiful rooftop. The interior is beautiful, they did not go cheap on the decor. Their alcohol inventory is impressive with a huge range from Japanese whiskeys, wines, to Irish scotch.

Now onto the most important topic: Food and Drinks. Overall the food was a hit or complete miss. However, all the drinks are great and well crafted. Which I am not surprised, being the sister restaurant/bar of Craft & Commerce and Polite Provisions (I believe).

Aged Ribeye - Staff highly recommended this cut to be cooked medium rare. Our table ordered 3 of these: one was over salted, one being over cooked to medium and overall dry, and last one was perfect. So there was no consistency.
Dry Aged Bone-in Ribeye - Amazing and worth the price. Perfectly seasoned as well, additional sauces were not needed.
American Wagyu - Solid
Filet - Over Salted
Charcoal Roasted Chicken - Tender chicken, no complaints.
Uni Spaghetti - Great
Mary's Snails - Bone marrow and snails with caramelized onion. Loved it except the toast that accompanied it. Over buttered thus over powering the bone marrow/snails. Deliciously over buttered...
King Oyster Mushrooms - Complete fail on all 3 orders in our group. Extremely sour, almost inedible.
Butter Poached Lobster - Good
Crispy Smashed Potatoes & Oven Stuffed Potato - Neither were impressive.
Mac & Cheese - Was lacking something.
Bread & Butter - Delicious
Carrot Cake - Amazing and highly recommend. Very soft and not overly sweet.
Cheesecake - Was alright

Whiskey Smash - My personal favorite for a sweet but not overly sweet bourbon cocktail.
Old Fashioned - Done pretty tell
Table Side Martini - Made how you like it, no complaints.

TLDR: Great bar, mediocre steakhouse. I will only come here for the well crafted cocktails, carrot cake and decor. Would not spend that amount of money for average steaks and sides.

This restaurant is decorated art nouveau and curiously you feel in a luxurious place somewhat retro. The waiters wear tuxedo with sneakers. The cuts of meat can be accompanied by Oscars or with lobster type sea and land. Great wine list and drinks served very well. Desserts come to your table in a cart. The
Atmosphere is very nice.

Beautiful restaurant!

Beautiful restaurant!
My meatball appetizer was just too salty. Not great. The bartenders upstairs were lacking in friendly service. That s never a good thing when you are paying top dollar for a cocktail.

Simply Put: I had the best steak in my life to date here at Born and Raised. I've been here four times so far, and haven't been disappointed yet. The filet has been perfectly cooked medium rare and seasoned so very perfectly. As far as starters, the bread, the corn bisque and escargot on bone marrow have all been fantastic. I've tried the mac and cheese as a side, however I haven't tried any others. Cocktails are very good as well and there's an excellent wine list and a good selection of beers on draft.

It can look a bit over the top when you're walking down India Street. Don't let that stop you from checking it out, even if you are in rather casual clothing! The upstairs is the place to be with the bar (and a selection of tables) that open up to Little Italy. Do note that they don't serve food upstairs on the weekend at the bar.

A great vantage on San Diego, excellent service, tableside everything, extensive wine list with very affordable options. Good value for fine dining all around. Steak tartare was awesome (though I prefer the crunchier toast to the brioche). The bone marrow and escargot were also scrumptious.

Took my son and his fiancee out to dinner for his birthday. Really nice design and a great view from the rooftop. Dinner was good, the steaks were cooked perfectly. My girlfriend had the halibut and loved it. The hamburger was very tasty. I ordered ice tea, the waiter said they were out and he would have to brew hot tea and put it over ice. Not a problem except every glass tasted different. Had to ask for coffee refills. A couple nice touches, or course the birthday dessert and the manager came over and wished my son happy birthday and gave him a hand signed birthday note. Nice touch! Overall a great evening.
