The rates at this hotel were quite reasonable compared to others in downtown SF. The staff was very personable, and they even offered a free glass of wine on check-in!

It must be mentioned that it is in a rather funky part of town that can be a bit scary at night, but it's only a block from the main drag, so it's not too bad (aside from the man screaming for an hour outside).

Also there's a weird window in the bathroom that just opens to... the wall, and pipes, and you can hear guests in rooms above and below you in the bathroom. Weird and unpleasant.

Aside from all that, just fine and dandy! If you're not too picky and want a reasonable place to sleep close to a conference or downtown or whatever, I'd recommend it.

Good, nice hotel. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and accommodating. Coffee and tea are available throughout the day.
The location is very central, but unfortunately it is not the best area. There are a lot of homeless people around the hotel and it is very noisy. The whole night you hear sirens and it is consistently honking what the stuff holds. Since there is no air conditioning, you are unfortunately forced to leave the window a little open, otherwise it is quickly quite hot and stuffy in the room.

Good place we booked it in hotels tonight. Very sketchy side street. WiFi broken the two nights we stayed. Little voucher for a few bucks off drinks at the bar. Underwhelming breakfast, but they have one. Amazing Dijon mustard seed with some apps.

Summary: great but not amazing! Good value!

Hotel itself is small but very good. Rooms are of good size and are having basic amenities like TV, safe, iron and ironing board. Air conditioning is not available rather a table fan is there which was not sufficient in the days when i stayed there. Bath room is of sufficient size and clean with basic toiletries available.
Rooms are serviced daily. Front desk is very co operative and helpful. Complementary water tea and coffee is available on front desk 24 hrs.
The only problem is the neighbourhood which is having so many homeless people around. They are most of the time harmless but very odd to observe. Their fighting with eachother sometime causes disturbance during sleep.
Other than homeless people the location is appropriate due to availability of public transport and a variety of halal dining just at minutes walk.
Brakfast is not complementary and just ok for price that is 12 dollars per head.

Art Deco, old Hollywood themed boutique hotel with rough edges in a run down neighborhood. The rooms are serviceable, but the carpets and linens are long overdue for replacement. Make plans for breakfast, as the hotel provides only a bottle of water, an apple and a bizarre packaged pastry for breakfast. The good: try the nearby Indian and Thai restaurants. Enjoy a glass of wine at check-in.

When I stayed at this hotel it was being remodeled, so the place was bad. I didn't like the room, actually I hate it. the breakfast is very simple, it shouldn't be called breakfast it looks like more a bag of snacks that someone give to your children to take to school and the area where this place is located is terrible, there are a lots homeless.

The advantage is that it is very accessible because it is in downtown. You can find restaurants and shopping places within 15 to 20 minutes on foot. The only advantage is this one. There is no air-conditioning system in the rooms and there is no refrigerator. It is only that it is clean. Whether the replacement period of towels is long, or whether towel washing is a strong detergent, it is very stiff. There are quite a lot of homeless people in the area, so I locked the front door around 10pm. The reason is that the homeless people seem to be able to enter inside, and when the door opens, I saw a homeless person who is going to go inside. It is not safe to go out at night and is absolutely deprecated. Because of the reason for being located on the side of the road, the sound of a car cleaning the roadside at night, the sound of siren, etc., sounds very loud at dawn. I think it is better not to open the window inside the room or to expect the view. Employees are friendly.

Terrible experiences.... a lot of homeless and criminal people in front of the door... old and very dirty hotel ... (for example: the rest of eatings of previous guest under our bed or a lot of hairs in the bathroom) very loud... employee friendly but not really professionell..
Parking cost 45 doller + tax (1 night)... (public parking is cheaper and safer).... Would recommend to nobody.. we check out three days earlier, as we planed..

The hotel has a great staff. The beds are extremely comfortable. The site mentioned popcorn and movies nightly of which they stopped doing a couple years ago. There is free coffee and tea in the morning and complimentary bottles of water. The only downside is it's at the beginning of the Tenderloin section of San Francisco. This is community of homeless people with various afflictions. I wouldn't dare walk alone in the location.

Overall my stay was pretty great! I went in a little skeptical but for the price during Dreamforce the hotel was nice. Not in the best part of town but that can t be helped (I m also from downtown Atlanta so nothing unusual for me). The two things that could be improved were A. The room doors were super thin and I could hear every single thing in the hallway and B the windows were thin so you could hear outside noise. However for the price the upgrades and renovations to the room were very nice and I can tell they are definitely working to improve.

I was in this hotel last week. Nice and very clean hotel. Rooms not very large but neat, clean and with various accessories. Friendly staff. Bar in the lobby. American breakfast. Free bottled water (given the high water costs it was a welcome gift). Very close to Union Square and the terminus of the cable car. In the adjacent street many homeless people, but this is a widespread problem throughout the city (including the municipality area).

Overall we were satisfied. We got a room with two double beds, the room was small and felt too packed also a bit old. Also the windows are single layer and we could hear the noise from the street. No free breakfast or any food, but they offer us some water. There is a bar for drinks and also has food I believe inside the hotel.

On the positive side, it's near the financial district and a short walk to the downtown, China town etc.

The room was clean and the staff is friendly. You can also leave your bags with them, explore the city and pick them up a few hours later.

Really great bar! But the room was very basic. I fit in a full size bed and the bed they had in my room had my feet hanging down I'm 6 feet I may be tall but I'm not a giant. The elevator main level button did not work so we had take the stairs. It seemed like the room hasn't really been updated since the 1980's. The bar and lobby are very nice, but outside looked like skid row and no one seemed to be doing anything about it.

If it were possible to do so I would rate this lower. I posted pics as this is place is ridiculously OVERPRICED, UNDERSTAFFED, TERRIBLE BEDS, allegedly having been remodeled .When we walked into the room, two sets of earplugs were on the night stand. I have my own due to the concert however they were useless. I wore my triple flanged extra small not the disposable ones given by the hotel. The noise level was off the chart on Eddy/Mason we were in a 2nd flr room as the other pics of the old single ones window we were not able to sleep due to people petting etc, street sweeping machines (woke me and I lit thought a tank was coming) I m a 20 yr retired veteran and have slept in many cities. San Francisco, this area sucks. We were booked for two nights- nope. Outta the Bijou, no thanks. The night staff was too busy, the computer screens with my personal information were left open while I was waiting to have my room key recoded as it did not work. When I asked the rep to help she seemed it was me unable to work the card. Two mattresses on top of one another for sleeping, no boxed frame, At every move the entire thing moved. I can go on and on, just want it out there. The building is old, 1910, upgrades were cheap, overall they charged us over 200.00 for the damn night and it wasn t worth a penny.

Hotel with an unbeatable location in the heart of San Francisco, 50 m from Market street, 5 min from the beginning of Cable car, another 5 min from the city hall of San Francisco. Also to say that in the center of San Francisco something that hit us a lot is the number of homeless people in all corners of the center, despite being less than 5 minutes from the town hall and in a fairly noble area of the city in In front of a Hilton hotel we found homeless people sleeping in all corners of the city. With regard to the hotel connections, they are perfect both to go to the Chinatown (walking or cable car), to the pier area or to the golden gate are perfect with buses from market street with a frequency of 10-15 min for any destination.

Horrible customer service. Management is awful.

I called to speak to manager Blanca and I can t get them to even answer the phone unless I call from a different area code phone number. They re literally avoiding calls from my area code. I m honestly mind blown that this hotel would go to this extent to avoid doing the right thing. The owner only write replies to make it look like he s going to do something. A joke!

Received a parking ticket in front of the hotel in the mail with the time stamped an hour after I checked in. The manager said she would look at it and now the hotel won t answer my phone calls. Now I have a $130 dollar ticket in addition to the $45 dollar a night valet parking fee and $25 a day urban fee. I would except this service from a best western, but being located in the Tenderloin I should have known better from the start, STAY AWAY!

Dangerous neighborhood not suited for family s or romantic stays.

Although only a stones throw away from the popular Union Square, the hotel is situated on a road that is FULL of homeless drug users that gives you a real feeling that it s an unsafe area.

The hotel is currently updating the rooms, if you can insist on one of these or you will be in for an absolutely shite room.

The only thing that s good about this hotel is the friendly and attentive staff.

Breakfast is a joke

This was a lovely boutique hotel with very friendly staff. I was a little worried having read reviews saying that the area was very sketchy. Yes, there are homeless people nearby, but what major city doesn't have any homeless people? We took the time to get a know a couple of the homeless in the area and they were wonderful people. Don't go lookong for trouble and you won't find any. There are plenty of great places to eat nearby. Rooms are small but that's San Francisco for you! Would stay here again.

Don't stay here...

After providing Bijou with more information than my mortgage underwriter required, the manager, Bianca, went on to tell me, "I don't care what you think about our customer service. I'm the manager and I make the rules." When I tried to respond, I was interrupted with, "I'm ending this call."

I couldn't believe it...if my customer service team ever talked to a customer that way I would be mortified.

They made me email them a picture of the front and back of my ID and the front and back of my credit card. After the manager's little episode, I'm starting to worry about the security of my identity.

While in line, there were 2 separate groups of people asking to cancel their reservation for various reasons.

Rooms too small for families. Wifi cut out so often that it could be considered nonexistent (I used mobile data, which actually worked). "Resort fee" of $25/night supposedly was for cable and free wifi, but cable had limited channels available. Bathroom was too small, and there was no AC in room. They did provide a fan, but that didn't work well enough to get the room cool. It might have been an OK stay if it was only my wife and I, but with our kids, it was almost unbearable. Also, window had no way to prevent it from opening all the way, so we had to worry about our kid leaning out.

I liked the hotel but the area is really rough. I know this isn't the hotel's fault necassarly, but a deep systemic issue with San Francisco's homelessness and mass inequality. Nevertheless, it does impact your stay in San Francisco. As a new tourist to a city I use to live in, I'd love to see all the hotel's downtown start pushing San Francisco's politicians to address the issues affecting the area because this isn't just an issue outside of Bijou, but one that stretches across all of San Francisco's burrows. I hope Bijou is doing all it can to petition for a cleaner, safer, healthier San Francisco.

Hotel is okay. It's clean and recently renovated. The staff is kind and helpful and valet parking is offered. Location is the only issue. Although close to Union square it is also in the tenderloin area which is haunted by homeless people urinating everywhere, walking around under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Not super safe nor appealing area.

No AC, but otherwise a nice place. Excellent staff. Rooms are named after famous San Fran movies, with nuggets of knowledge posted on the walls in the room. I'm bummed they didn't put me in the Vertigo room, seeing as I share a name with the lead actor, but it was a good reason to watch The Presidio.

As a woman traveling alone (and I regularly visit SF for business) i felt unsafe and uncomfortable walking past people using drugs on the street in the neighborhood- even in the day. The rooms felt outdated- no air conditioning or fan and it was stuffy and hot. All I could hear was people shouting and loud music blasting from outside. Paint was peeling off the door. I didnt end up staying and immediately booked another hotel for similar price 3 blocks away.

I have stayed at hotel bijou multiple times over the years. I do have to say the team working there is top notch. Says a lot for a company when they can keep people. Must be a good place to work. Also for breastfeeding Mom's I highly recommend this for you. They went above and beyond working with me to freeze my milk while I was away from baby for 4 days. It's great even in a big city to know there a great people to give you the hometown feel. Keep up the good work and love the addition of the restaurant.

The bed was comfortable and they had cable with a decent amount of channels. For being in Sanfransisco I thought it was a nice place to stay for the price. We also got complementary wine! There is no air conditioning but the lady at the front desk advised us to open our windows and when we did that it was perfect. We brought ear plugs and I advise you to do the same as the city can be loud and the historical buildings have thinner walls. The one thing that needs to be addressed is that there was some mold in the shower. I didn't notice it until my husband pointed it out to me (he is very detail oriented). The restaurant was AMAZING! The food was so good. It is expensive and it is smaller portions but I would say well worth the price. The staff at the restaurant were also incredibly friendly.

Loved the hotel. Friendly staff who are always willing to assist without hesitation.

There is problem with the heating boilers on the 6th floor. I had to be moved because the system heat was not working but the problem persisted in the next room. Eventually, I went downstairs to get one of their portable heaters.

Their $12 breakfast need more options.

FYI there is an additional $25 a day resort fee that took me by surprise.

Despite these issues, I will definitely go back because of the staff.

I give it a 4 star for one reason, and that is because I hit my head like 50 times on the "lamps" that are mounted like 18 inches above the bed, those could be moved up and I definitely let them know that.

Besides that, the place was great, very courteous staff, clean and nice sized rooms, I didn't get s fridge but I didn't need it. LCD TV. Clean and cute bathrooms. And best of all. Pet friendly!

Hotel has a cool vibe. Was expecting the room to look like the pictures online but it s just your standard yellow hotel room. Check in took 30 minutes because of slow computers. Wifi was down when we arrived and was still down over 24 hours later. When we complained they told us to go to the restaurant in the lobby where they have wifi. But it would be nice to have wifi in our room, we paid for that. They didn t offer any other compensation. Staff were nice but all new and it seemed like they didn t really know what they were doing. Area was a little sketchy.
