Nice old school feel for a nice price a few blocks from Union Square. Stayed one night and enjoyed the stay. Wi-Fi is OK, room is clean, private bathroom, it has an elevator, and valet parking.

The Gibson restaurant on the main floor is amazing. Innovative cocktails and cuisine with a very modern inviting experience. Room was very comfortable and recently remodeled, top notch. Owner is extremely friendly if you have the pleasure of meeting him.

It is in a sketchy neighborhood and as 2 girls we were kind of worried, but when we reached the hotel the amazing staff made us feel very much at home! The best among San Francois cheap hotels!

The staff went out of their way to be helpful and polite. Good coffee and tea in the lobby. Rooms were snazzy with nice touches. There was a good amount of road noise from the street due to the location and age of the building but they do provide ear plugs!

I booked the hotel because of the price and close proximity to the convention center. Prior to arriving my expectation was hopefully equivalent to motel 6 but ....arriving I realized it was greater than that. Very cute hotel, clean and quant. The service was excellent. I usually stay at Parc 55 but with budget cuts had to try some place new. What a great find I didn't miss the Parc 55 at all! This will become my new "usual".Thanks Bijou for a great stay.

Hotel itself is pretty decent. They do their best to provide a mini-breakfast which includes packaged goods and water. The room itself is a good size for what you get in San Francisco. The only issue with the hotel is the location in the Tenderloin. Makes guests feel unsafe when people are screaming and fighting outside until 4am. But there is peace and quiet between 4am-6am. Hotel staff is friendly and do what they can to accommodate

I would avoid this area completely, the hotel doesnt have double glassed windows so you can hear everything. There are so many homeless and they are so noisy, and it is not safe to go outside at night, the streets are very unsafe and dirty.
For the hotel itself... Our room stank like a dead animal when we first arrived, they were pretty friendly but i would just avoid the area completely

During my very brief visit to The Hotel Bijou, the very first thing I noticed was the construction going on in the middle of the day. While not to much of an inconvenience, the fact that no effort was made to cover cables, tools and other work related items. Did not go unnoticed. In the lobby there was coffee, which I imagine was complimentary. Sadly it was cold. The customer service was very, very, helpful. I have no complaints what-so-ever. As far as that is concerned. The rooms were all bright and sunny and made me feel very comfortable indeed. I guess I'd rate my as stated, "very brief". Stay at the Bijou at a seven.

Came here with a few friends, and it wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either.

They had clean rooms, and free coffee for guests, but other than that, not much. The bathroom was large, but unlike other hotels, the toilet didn't have a door itself so someone could shower while someone had to use the bathroom. The beds were pretty comfy as well, but sheets weren't very soft like most other places.

I understand you're not paying for the best hotel when you're staying here, but it also isn't cheap, so I expected a little more during my stay. Also, it's in a pretty sketchy neighbourhood that has a lot of homeless people right across the street that are sure to wake you up in the morning while they yell at each other.

4 only because the loitering outside the building... Staff and Rooms are excellent! The Staff was very honest. I left a valuable item in the Lobby and the staff returned to me. I am very grateful and happy for that. I would definitely visit Hotel Bijou again.

The room is small and I wish they had a small coffee maker in the room. The bed is average comfort. One Direction leaving the hotel put you into the tenderloin District which is not so nice.

The Bijou is a TOTALLY CUTE boutique hotel with very friendly staff and immaculately clean rooms.

The neighborhood can be a bit loud so book an inside room.

I found the place by accident, was pleasantly surprised, and will definitely stay here again.

Clean and tidy rooms with decent natural light. Friendly staff. But like every other hotel in the city it is extremely expensive and surrounded constantly by homeless people. The wifi here is also extremely weak and constantly logs off. The wifi network is open (browser authentication) meaning you will likely get hacked while on it. The climate control in the room did t work so we had to leave the widow open which meant being kept awake by the homeless fighting in the street.

Nice hotel with clean rooms and decent service. However, the windows are pretty thin and the noise from outside can get pretty loud, disturbing your sleep. They do provide one of those plastic/sponge ear plugs, but it's not enough to block out all the noise.

I stayed here with a friend for a night when we were in SF for a concert and it was a great little spot to stay in. We actually snagged a 24 hour deal on travelocity so we paid under the regular nightly rate for our room, but I checked the actual rates, and they weren't out of line for the area. The room was a decent size; a little bigger than I was expecting, actually. Each room has a different movie theme, too, listed on the door, and a movie poster and some facts about the movie and how it relates to San Francisco. We saw rooms for Star Trek IV, Nine Months and the Rock, as well as various vintage movie posters. They even have a theater room and movie viewings. The staff were all extremely friendly, and even held our bags for us the next morning while we went to get breakfast and walk around a bit before we left (at no charge). One caveat - when we stayed there, they were doing something to the cable, so only one floor had working cable. Didn't bother us since we didn't spend enough time in the room for it to matter, but be forewarned.

They are under renovation. The lobby is a mess. Literally. The section of San Francisco is really bad. Reminds me of Times Square 35-40 years ago before the clean up.

HOWEVER.... THE ROOMS WERE AWESOME. The customer service AMAZING. Renovation sucked. The homeless and those who could not do better in life right now makes this place Unsafe at night.

Renovation is under construction. The first floor lobby and some floors have been completed, but the other floors are outdated.
There are plenty of homeless people around the hotel because it is in the tenderloin area right next to the hotel. The location is close to Union Square but not far to go to dinner

My family of four husband and two child drove to the hotel and right outside the hotel was an arrest of two individuals face down on the pavement, approximately 6 homeless persons, persons hanging outside the hotel looking suspicious and garbage everywhere. It was located in an extremely dangerous neighborhood. We immediately locked our doors and drove away and made reservations at a different hotel in a safe neighborhood. I would discourage anyone that values their safety to not book this hotel. We called the hotel asking for our money back and we were denied. Do not stay at this hotel.

Hotel Bijou was a very nice hotel located downtown San Francisco. Noticed the lobby was very clean when I first walked in, and I was greeted nicely by the receptionist. My room was small but very comfortable, was recently updated and had my own bathroom. There were some renovations during the day but was not a bother, the water was shut off for a few hours one day but not a big deal. I have read other reviews that said the homeless people outside were noisy, I was on the front side of the hotel and I really didn't hear anything. The only noises that I heard started during the early morning hours when the city was coming to life for the day. The only minute problems I had with my room is that there was no mirror above the bathroom sink and the door bolt lock didn't work. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

We stayed in this hotel from 3 to 6 September. My girlfriend and I were given an internal room on the 2nd floor, while my friends a triple room that overlooked Eddy Street also on the 2nd floor. It looked very good in appearance. The only flaw is that the room is very small, so with luggage you can barely get through. For the rest all excellent. The room was quite new, well furnished, spotless and new bathroom.
The room was equipped with a hairdryer, a small walk-in closet with an ironing board, an iron and a television.
Wi-fi not received. As soon as we arrived it also worked in the room, while from the next day it worked only in the hall. We asked several times to fix it, but nothing, they couldn't fix it and therefore we practically never used it.
As for the breakfast, nothing to say. Good. Breakfast is served near the entrance and it is a buffet. There is a register where you enter your name, surname, room number and number of people having breakfast, and you pay when you check out. You can also pay in cash if you ask. The breakfast is typical American, with Bacon, eggs, sandwich sausages, turkey and more. We enjoyed it.
Last note, but the most important is the location of the Hotel. It is in a great location, but the adjacent streets are full of homeless people both day and night and we have seen them come to blows several times during the day (they were visibly drunk). One of them was choking on his own with a belt in his pants, not far from us (luckily he stopped before choking). It is by no means a quiet area. And ambulances and police often pass by at night with the siren on and therefore for those suffering from light sleepers I do not recommend this structure. My girlfriend and I in the innermost room could hear the noises, but they were more subdued than our friends who were outward and told us they couldn't sleep well.
In summary, good hotel, but location and relative homeless people (many) that make you lower the average. Also one less point for the Wi-Fi that didn't work in the room.

Cozy hotel with quaint (but ultimately helpful and friendly) staff that served the purpose. It is around the corner from the Hilton SF Union Square that is quite more expensive even at conference goer discount. It is proximate to a good hole in the wall bar, and a couple blocks away from a 24-hour diner.

The room was relatively cheap but the hotel is located in a homeless neighborhoods. The breakfast consisted of a bag with a fruit, bottled water and a small pastry from costco. The room was adequate but we had no control over the air conditioning which was barely existent.

Good value with a decent location. Front desk is friendly and helpful. Unfortunately As reviews State that the area is highly populated by homeless that make walking outside uncomfortable especially at night. I can only imagine for females or families. If you need a no frills stay and don't mind the area then it's your spot.

Room was clean. Room was little. Easy to hear traffic. I previously read reviews stating that there was a huge homeless problem and they hung around nearby. But it doesn't seem any bigger than any other city that I have visited and they hang around anywhere. Staff were nice and the breakfast bag was simple and perfect my first day of the conference when I was in a hurry. I plan on using the contents of the bag for snacks the rest of the days.

The staff are fairly friendly and the rooms are reasonable. The area is a bit dodgy. My big complaint was that there was no A/C and leaving the window open let in a lot of street noise or you kept it shut and it was very hot.

Had a really positive experience at this place!

Had a really positive experience at this place!
The staff member we had was very kind and helpful at check-in, and the welcome drinks were a nice touch!
Room was clean and a good value for the area. The bed was quite comfortable and we enjoyed the amount of space.
We loved the vintage look and feel of the building, and when an earthquake occurred we thought some stuff would be broken for sure, but everything seemed to hold up just fine.

Some people in the reviews are complaining about the area and homeless people, but as two young people we didn t have any problems, and even (unknowingly) went walking down the bad neighbourhood. Nothing happened and we were fine. You just have to remember you are in downtown San Francisco and have realistic expectations for the area.

All in all, Hotel Bijou made me feel safe and welcome, and we look forward to coming back sometime.

BAIT AND SWITCH. Booked a room with them and called several times in days leading up to arrival to confirm that my room was available and my reservation was in order. Was told by multiple front desk agents that this was the case. When I arrived at 9:30pm at night was told they had overbooked and there were no rooms available. They instead relocated me to a best western. They did NOT refund me or compensate me in any way for this. I was charged FULL PRICE for the Hotel Bijou room but had to stay at a Best Western next to the airport, which is 40 min away from my job interview instead of a three block walk.
