Great place for some fun in the sun! Adults & kids alike.
Need a little bit upgrade but kids loves it it's so much fun and healthy
Super fun! First aid center saved my eyes! Staff was so friendly and helpful!
Dated and not as clean as it could be. But the kids had fun.
Really great experience with kids and the whole family! Enough rides for different thrill levels! Amazing place for a day in summer!
Tempe's gem! This isn't a huge water park but it is a great place to take you back in time. I love coming here with my family every weekend during the summer, it has become our #1 hang out place. Big surf is like a 70's time capsule, the vibe is chill and everyone who works here is super nice as well. There is a small area for non swimmers, a good size area for older kids just learning to swim, and tons of slides. My absolute favorite is the wave pool, they have boogie board and surf sessions every day the park is open. You can rent rafts, boogie board and surf boards.
Awesome day, Joe Shannon turned the day for my two boys. A couple of kids tried to steal my kids boogey boards. We caught them and Joe went out of his way to make it right for our family. Dont need to explain the details of what he did... but he was awesome.
Even though the place is always crowded during the summer months it is still very welcome reprieve from the heat and enjoyable by the whole family.
We love this place. They may not have the biggest baddest slides but the wave pool is awesome and I can keep an eye on the kids from anywhere. Definitely a plus!
Amazing place and incredibly fun I love their wave pool it's so fun and the slides
After getting injured and having to go to the hospital the office staff acted like it was a problem to give me free tickets for me and my ride to the office bad attitudes and weird acting staff. But overall the park is pretty fun and an okay place to swim and enjoy the summer
It's was awesome. Someone stole my little brother sandals by the wave pool, besides that it is a attraction to visit again !!
It's just a great place to relax and take your family. I've been going since I was in junior high, lol.
I saw a rat it was near the kid pool with slides and somebody stole our car mirror. Since there not acoountable for our things but it was in there parking lot.
First time visit was very good but felt that there was not variety of things to do
Here is the problem, they close at 6. In tge middle of summer, on a saturday. They have a 250lb. weight limit for the majority of the slides, and they close down the wave pool at 5 in order to accommodate the "professional" surfers. We are in arizona. Who on earth needs to surf in arizona?
Not what I expected, place older not as maintained, crowded and water seemed dirty. Also seems understaffed.
Definitely needs a facelift. Space is limited. Even on summer weekdays . Almost not worth a season pass.
Great place to beat the heat in the summer. Get in early to snag a shady spot under a palapa.
We had a great time with the family!
My son hurt his foot and the attendants were so very friendly and great with us! Thank you
Went to the Circus Americana set up next door. A small, intimate setting, like an old-time road show. A fun couple of hours.
Fun place, but hard to find water fountains. We had to wait in the food line just to get a cup of water.
Nice sized park. Something for every age. Bar staff was nice. Lifeguards are nice & helpful. Will return!
I understand that the park is 50 years old, and that is a huge milestone, but when everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, from furniture, rides, concessions. I mean even the general upkeep is beyond outdated it's hard to stomach shelling out the dollars they charge. I was lucky enough to pay $19 through groupon, but when I went, 4 of the slides werent even operational due to obvious structure problems. Sunsplash although more expensive is at least much better maintained and has far more and better attractions. Having fond memories of Big surf as a child makes me sad to see the place in such disarray.
Great water park but it is very hot during the summer
Reasonably priced, awesome wave pool, multiple water slides whether you want to go on a tube or not. Kid friendly areas. And free parking. Definitely a nice respite from a hot Phoenix summer day.
They can t handle the stoke. My boy Gravy and JOB got kicked out bc they couldn t handle the dream. Lots of sponges too, gotta love it when u stand up on a wave and u drop in on 6 sponging kooks. Ben and Jamie will forever shred on brotha
Most of the floaties for the slides were flat. The place itself looks old. It doesn t a pool to just chill and relax. Food is overpriced. Wet n wild is WAY better.
Pretty good wave pool. The waves are good, but it's often crowded.
Fun for the kids! But always crowded and a little run down!
Wicked fun place! Pretty cool setup with lots of lockers and many places to find for seating. All of the slides & wave pool are a blast! Small family trips or big groups are always welcome.
One drawback, the crazy cost of food! I suppose it goes with the territory but next trip will have packed food in tow.
First time at big surf this weekend and it was lots of fun. Definitely recommend it.
It's dated for sure but it was still a ton of fun!!! Spent the day in the wave pool but there are some very fun slides that I did also. Some people say the water is too warm, swim to the deeper end for cooler water. Extras can be pretty expensive so just take your "need to haves" and lock up your valuables in the trunk as lockers are $7-$10 per day (all day). If you've a family and need a place to put your stuff it would be worth it I suppose. Didn't buy any extras but rafts for the wave pool are $7. Totally worth it. If you're not going rent a raft you're wasting your time and money. The slides have their own tubes. They have lots of palapas for shade. If you can't find one in the front, there are plenty near the slides (makes it a little more private as well). It's been 40 years since I was there the last time but I still had a blast. Oh, look for coupons at Costco or other places. 55+ only $15. Have fun!!!
So expensive for a day pass and there's no River 4 tubing it's pretty boring compared to the other water parks in Arizona
On the smaller side which makes it easier to track my kids. Plenty for Toddlers, teens and adults to do. We buy the season pass each summer and find it's a good way to stay cool and wear the kids out. Bathrooms are always pretty gross and the food is way overpriced, but my kids love coming!
Great prices lots of fun but has it ever been updated? It s like no money gets put back into the park.
Had lots of fun. Great place to go to cool off from the heat.
Surfing with Nixon is just a phenomenal event. Love the amount of water slides and the wave pool.
Family friendly. Love the quality of service. From the friendly lifeguards.
It was so much fun even though It could use some updates. People share the inflatable rafts in the wave pool.
Not the beach but still fun: I recently bought a season pass to spend my summer at Big Surf in Tempe. I have been there several times . I actually have been going to Big Surf on and off since it opened and spent quite a bit of time there in the 70s 80s and 90s. It is sad that this place has tried to compete with the big slide water parks. They are taking up so much of the room with the slides that it doesn t seem beachy anymore. Gone is the sand, replaced by grass and cement. I do like the shade structures and lawn chairs; however, I wish they would let us supply own own seating. You are extremely limited on what you can actually bring in the park. No food, pool toys, drinks, or umbrellas... many people bring their food, leave it in their car, come out and sit out front in the little bit of grass that is there and have their lunch. They should put picnic tables out there for those people. The food inside is like most places, not too great, very basic choices, and overpriced. The one thing I really do commend them on is the cost for entry. You can get a yearly pass or a one day pass on Groupon for a very affordable price. A lot less price than you will pay at any of the other water parks. It does get pretty crowded and the wave pool becomes a mosh pit in the afternoon. Get there early and leave when it gets too crowded.
Great fun. Took surfing lessons. The park staff and instructors are very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this park.
Not a lot of great rides. Old and run down. Fun for younger kids. Anyone over 10 will be bored quickly
My kids love Big Surf. We have been coming here for years.
Outdated but it doesn't matter. My kids every time have such a blast! They are 12, 11 and 9. Wave pool is always a hit and they love the slides too. I personally wouldn't spend $35 each for tickets.. Then we would never go but I seem to Win a 4 pack each year. I don't think food is overpriced. Pretzel or nachos for $3 slice of pizza and a drink for $6 after tax. They have shaved iced for $4. I'll keep going back as long as I win tickets ;)
Good fun place had a great time it could use a little work
Wouldn't let me bring my drinks in, they were electrolytes. Seriously searched my bag for drinks???
This place is old and seems more for geared toward younger children. There were only about 6 water slides for older kids and adults. We still had a nice time with the family. But we had 2 nephews visiting us - one age 11 and one age 18. There aren't any "thrill rides" for the 18 year old. We got a good deal on Groupon for all of us. I'm glad we didn't pay full price. They both enjoyed the wave pool and spent most of their time there.
I love riding the rafts backwards in the wave pool. The life guards are on point. Love this place so much
We had the best time, the place was not crowded and everything was reasonably priced!! The surf area with the raft was our favorite!!
Always fun and the kids love it. Plus very reasonable prices.
We had a blast, and the people at the ice cream shop even sang our daughter Happy Birthday !! Thank you !!
Great place for the family. I love that the property is large and open. You can view all attractions without the crowding like other nearby water parks.
Awesome fun for the family and not a bad price got season passes for 100 bucks.
Fun family time , all ages..my grandkids love it there
It was fun, but not a ton to do. Plus the staff is pretty rude.
Oh I loved the fish and chips. It was early in the day and nearby conference had yet to start and found this place with no wait.
"Withstanding The Tides Of Time" Should Represent This Famous Parks Motto. Back Then, The New York Jets Even Won The Superbowl! However, One Can Take A Trip To Vegas For The Prices...Make It More Affordable For All Characters.
Fun in the sun. Not usally busy unless its a weekend or holiday!! Season pass holder!
It's old and needs a good paint job BUT totally worth the money! We had a blast with our 3 year old! He rode the slides, went in the eave pool and shot the water guns. It was a great family day.
My family went on opening weekend and we had a great time. It wasn't too busy which was great. Live that there are 2 bathrooms, lots of food choices and locker rentals. There are 2 areas for kids, one is for small kids, which is great.
