Construction of the Viale Molise Depot began in the mid-1930s and was inaugurated in 1939.
The plant was originally intended for storage of substitute fuel buses, flanked by methane-powered cars (for which a distributor had been specially set up in the yard of the depot). However, the increasing difficulty in obtaining derived fuels and the substantial unreliability of this kind of cars, as opposed instead to the success of the trolleybus lines, meant that in 1943 Molise was equipped with an aerial network, preparing it for shelter and maintenance of trolley cars.
Towards the end of the 1970s the body shop was built on the upper floor of the workshop, while the mechanical and electrical departments were reorganized and enlarged on the ground floor. Starting from the second half of the seventies, with the progressive reduction of the trolleybus network, Molise remained the main trolleybus depot of the city, flanked only by Novara. With the company reorganization of 1998-2000 the automotive workshop also passed to Molise, until then present in Zara: in this way the deposit became the reference plant for the maintenance of the rubber sector of the ATM.
