Very friendly service. Knowledgeable and staffed with several mechanics at a time. I can get basic service while I wait. Very happy with both Trek bikes we bought here.

Another excellent service experience. My Emonda went in for a minor tuneup & came back working better (really!) than new. Is that possible? Well, the shifting is remarkably crisp & light. So important says Sir Shiftalot!
I've been a very happy customer of The Bicycle Outfitter for years now (three bikes and counting) and I've always liked the friendly and expert service.
Chris and associate spent much time with me selecting and adjusting my new bike (TREK FX1). Very satisfied
Very helpful, thorough, and professional - much appreciated!
I'm pretty tall, but they helped me find a great fit!
I like this place. The guys like bikes, the service centre went above the call of duty for me. You won't find better in this part of town.
Bought two bikes, excellent service. Found the right bikes for me and my girlfriend and didn't try to sell us a bike we would not need.
Will go back for the next bike.
I LOVE BO! This place feels like a close-knit neighborhood bike shop. We went in for some bike shoes for my husband and received great advice and made the purchase. While there I asked if they do applications of handlebar tape to road bikes and if I needed to make an appointment. Christopher said he could do it before closing if I could get back to the shop soon. He not only retaped the handlebars but he added a cool splash of color on the inside top. Excellent service and helpful advice. Thanks Christopher!
I absolutely love Chris, the bike fitter. He's super sweet, knowledgeable, patient and funny. The 2 staff members, a young gentleman and lady, are helpful and friendly and always greet you at the door. The manager is a bit stern. Clean store. It is required for you to wait outside until a staff member comes to the door. They do have a fitting room so you can try on apparel. I know some stores would not let you try on clothes such as REI so that was convenient. They are owned by the same owners of Palo Alto Bicycles but you can not join your accounts if you have a balance at any of the 2 locations.
Ive purchased biked at the bicycle outfitter twice now and both experiences have been amazing! They are super super helpful, patient, the guy worked with me until I found the perfect bike for myself, and for my daughters who are just learning how to bike! I will definitely be going back for all our bike needs!
This is the very best place to shop for sales and service. I always appreciate their expertise and help!
Great service.
Most important - these guys stay open during the virus shutdown and they follow all the measures - one customer inside at a time, everyone masked and gloved
Bikes are essential! this is the best and safe way to stay fit while locked down
Great prices on everything from valve adaptors to chains. The service is great and the staff is always ready to help you find whatever you are looking for. A great shop to test out bikes if you are planning on buying one they carry a full range and a test ride is a great idea.
We love, love, love our new tandem, and want to thank the staff at Bicycle Outfitter for help us fulfill this dream. They were patient, made many great suggestions, and did not skimp on time when it came to delivery, setup, and training. We drove from Los Angeles to this shop, and were not disappointed we did so.
The shop offers great products and a wide variety of options for different price ranges and the after sale service is TRULY where this shop shines and keeps me coming back. I will never buy a bike or accessory at any other bike shop while it remains in business!
The staffs are very professional and friendly. I bought my bike there and always a go-to place when I have issues with my bike. Happy riding!

Was out to buy my first road bike and shopped at the two stores closest to my house. Bicycle Outfitter by far had the better sales staff (the other one near Trader Joe's had some summer intern help me after they found out that i was in for my first bike). Also, they had better prices (the other shop charged $300 more for the same bike) . I took my bike in recently for the first servicing and they did not even count it as the first complementary as my bike was not used enough (and thus gave me another complementary check up). Strongly recommended.
The employees here are the best and very friendly! Always willing to help and loan tools or a pump. They even loaned a wheel to a club mate who potato chipped his wheel, allowing him to rejoin or evening ride.
I've been going here for almost 30 years. Outstanding local bike shop. I buy a lot of high wear items, sports nutrition, clothing and various parts here. Service is excellent with highly experienced staff. I do most of my own work, but there are things that require special tools or a really experienced hand, and I trust these guys to handle my collection with skill and care. They have done work on my vintage bikes and my more modern, custom bikes.
Bought all my kids bikes here and gotten a few tune ups for mine. Good in store selection, friendly staff, And always good to support a local business.
I've been going to this shop since the nineties. They've always been polite, responsive, and they have some of the best mechanics in the business. I have spent more time on the service side and I've always been impressed with their attention to quality and customer satisfaction. We bought our Co-Motion tandem there four or so years ago and it was a great experience as the shop allowed us to change some of the spec, so we could put Di2 on it! We love our Robusta (helps to remind us of our coffee addiction).
Good solid local bike store. Been there for years. Staff is very knowledgeable. If you are in the market for a tandem this is THE place to go. Repair staff is very good. Very helpful when you have a problem. They also have group rides from there scheduled for different levels of riders.
They have helped me with sudden on the road mechanical problems a few times. Excellent work, pleasant fellows, reasonable prices.
Great service and friendly and helpful folks here. While some other bike stores may appear better for competitive road bikes, this place is awesome for families all around. We have to get some work done on different kinds of bikes for the family---e.g., changing tires on a big Panasonic e-bike shipped from Japan, retrofitting carry basket on a ~20 year old Rock Hopper, replacing recalled cranks (which the service guys spotted as recalled parts by just looking at it)... The folks here can do the work at a very reasonable rate and with high quality. It gets a bit crowded on weekends so don't expect your work getting done on the spot every time. But give them time and the work gets done.
Experienced staff members enjoy educating people, no strong sales pressure, and not judgmental if you lack cycling experience or just are not in good shape.
Love how this place takes care of customers as quickly as possible even during all the current restrictions. I drive from Hayward to this place just to get quick service. I also like how the repair side is very helpful and can fix simple problems right away.
This team did everything to make my purchasing and service experience the best ever! So impressed with the quality, responsiveness and friendliness of everyone at Bicycle Outfitters.
I've gone here for years and always enjoyed it. I especially appreciate their mechanics who never fail to help me out. I really like that I can wheel my bike right into their workshop and talk with them. At other places the workshop is off limits.
Excellent customer service .. new brake pads, adjustment, test ride.
Justin and Wayne were great. Justin ordered me the right custom handlebars and Wayne was nice enough to put them on right away. Great service, great attitudes, and great experience. Thank you.
We got our kid's bike repaired here. We used to visit Performance Bike in Mountain View on El Camino Real and they are always super busy and unable to attend and keep asking to come back later. While this place was also busy, they were far more polite and nice.
They fixed the front derailleur but it didn't quite work when my kid tried it in the parking lot. However, the mechanic went back and took him to make sure it work this time. I didn't get his name. I hope I could thank with his name.
Great shop to buy gear as well though their selection of mountain bikes appeared quite limited.
Great bike mechanics. My shifter stopped working during a ride and I drop by and they took a look at it fixed it on the spot. Highly recommend.
My favorite bike shop in the Bay Area - have had multiple great interactions with staff and techs; helped me get what I need, showed me some stuff, and weren't off putting in the least. Support your local bike shop when you can so they have what you need when you need it next :)
I like this shop a lot, service is very professional and caring. I d recommend.
I go here for all my biking needs. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly.
Awesome, great knowledge, and excellent service. Bike fit is highly recommended and a fair price.
Great bicycle shop. Knowledgeable staff, quality selection of bikes and accessories, can quickly order other items they do not have in stock. Highest recommendation.
Always willing to go the extra step to help me with a problem.
Efficient helpful staff and reasonably priced goods.
Friendly and efficient with reasonable prices. The service department has always treated my ignorance with helpful pointers and the work done on my bicycle has been high quality.
Replaced my flat in ten minutes. Under $20. Great deal, nice guys. Will go back.
I went here once a long time ago when I needed a new tire (urgently!) and they helped me select a good one and get on my way. They were fine with me changing my tire myself right outside the store and using their pump, and they even helped me get the old tire off free of charge (I couldn't deflate it because the valve was full of healing goo). I went there again yesterday to switch the back tire, and the price for that tire even went down!
Helpful people, plus they had an obscure bike part on hand!
Being younger, finding a cycling jersey and shorts seemed quite hard for me, however the kind staff at Bicycle Outfitter were quick to help me and got me a great deal. I walked away with a great Castelli Jersey for 50% off and a great Pearl Izumi select series shorts for $130 (A great deal)
Great spot. The kind of place that both gives solid advice on repairs and will tell you when they think no repair is needed. And, if it's something small, I've had them do it for free. Really great people who have an old school love of bikes and caliber ofcustomer care.
They have a great service department which saved my wheel without charging me much at all. No appointment necessary - just roll in for service from experienced mechanics.
My experience purchasing an E bike from the Outfitter bike store was exemplary from beginning to end. Their patience and advice made it a positive, supportive event.
Great selection of bikes and accessories. There are many bike touring and bike camping accessories here that are hard to find elsewhere. The shop is super friendly and helpful. The staff is knowledgeable. Great shop!
Very accommodating and professional and nice guys to boot.
- Good selection for the type of bike we wanted to purchase with availability; was able to order online during a challenging time.
- Fast turn-around on our order versus what was expected.
- Detailed explanation of quick release, helmet, etc when we came to pick up the bike.
- On-the-spot cutdown of the bike seat post.
- Felt safe with reasonable social distancing when we came to pick up the bike.
Very good friendly service for fixing my bike. Found many problems I didn t even know my old road bike had. Bike was also ready very quickly (within 2 days). Only downside is the cost to fix the bicycle was on the pricey side.
I'm bringing my bikes for service here for many years now and always received top quality service.
I lately bought a new MTB bike and David at the store was helping me make the right decision on the phone with my online purchase. Then made sure the ordered executed and delivered.
Great customer service!
The true test of a business in respect to it s customers are when the chips are down as they are now with COVID and the crazy demand for bicycles and bicycle repair. I need my from derailleur adjusted and I was told they are not taking any more appointments. I call Mike s in Palo Alto and they said they are only serving customers who purchased the bike from them. I then tried cognition cyclery in Mountain View on Castro and they are doing first come first serve. I drove over and within 30-40 mins my bike was fixed; took a little longer since they are COVID compliant, thus, limiting customers into service area. I am giving a bad review as I have purchased 3 bikes from this place and received no special consideration for my loyalty. Even as Los Altos resident I no longer will do any business with this bike company. Moving forward Congnition in Mountain View is my local bike shop.
I would like to compliment Dennis for providing excellent customer service to my husband and me when deciding upon, purchasing and modifying a new Trek bicycle. Dennis knows bikes and all of the collateral products. He listens to his customer and makes suggestions accordingly, and he projects care and thoroughness. In addition, we had excellent customer service from the sales manager, whose name I did not get.
Thorough, prompt, expert service. Polite and cheerful staff. Always attentive to offering maximum value.
Awesome local bike store (LBS). Hopefully this brick-and-mortar destination will survive for many, many, many years.
Bought a Univega 10 speed from Wheeler Dealers here in December '75 for $159.95 .. all the money in the world to me then
Rode it on 2 one thousand mile trips thru northern cal around '78
I remember the owner complaining he was getting too many used car calls and wanted to change the name
A sales person spent half an hour trying to adjust and sell me a bike with too small frame. Either they didn't have a right size hybrid for me or he didn't know better? Took him half hour to readjust seat and especially bar is bad too. Other salespeople were available and could have intervened.
Nice, small shop with friendly sellers. True, I was looking for a mount for the flashlight on the steering wheel and did not find it there.
I ve been going to this shop for over 25 years. It s a great place. Recently, I was in there browsing and I rediscovered their extensive offerings in performance road tires, tools, and brake pads. With the current trend in disc brakes, there are so many varieties of Shimano and SRAM disc pads. They seem to have them all. They also had a full range of OEM and aftermarket rim brake pads for Campy, Shimano and SRAM. The pad prices are the same as mail order. Support Bicycle Outfitter.
Great service, smart people, service department is the best.
By far the best service I have received from a bike shop on the peninsula. I learned a lot the staff was friendly, helpful and approachable. Not only did I leave with a better bike, but I knew more about my bike, more about potential options of upgrades, but I also left feeling great. Which resulted in a monster ride! I thought their bike fitting has a really good value! I highly recommend!
Cancelled my order for unrelated reasons, no hassle. Plan to order something from them eventually to support my local bike shop
Efficient, friendly and knowledgeable love this place.
Not good returning experience... After spending over $5000 on a new bike and accessories, I was very disappointed that the store doesn't even contemplate matching the discounts that other bike stores like Summit provides thx to an employer program. I understand they may be not able to match for a variety of reasons but there are two reasons they frustrated me, as a loyal returning customer: (1) they did not make the least of an effort to make me their customer happy and (2) there is always a good business way of saying no. In addition to that my $4000+ brand new bike is causing me troubles with the front suspension. Not their fault, I agree but nevertheless an inconvenience they could recognize and act upon.
Bike repair shop has two of my favorite curmudgeons :) These repair guys deal fairly with women and do excellent work!
I popped my back tire on my commute home they were willing to stay a few min after close. Genuinely friendly staff. Great service!
Awesome shop. Bought my second bike from them this week. Involved trading In some old bikes we would never use and buying a bike for my 7 year old. They handled the entire transaction (trade ins and purchase) like professionals and service was awesome. Bought a bike for our 3 year old a few months ago here and had same experience. Highly recommended.
Went to buy a bike on display. Relentless upsell to buy an alternative where, presumably, the sales guy had higher commission. Could not in the end buy something I wanted, left in disgust.
Purchased my first road bike from the shop. I have been using three different bike shops for any maintenance and part installations. Mike's bike, Crank2 (pleasanton), and Bicycle Outfitter. From my experience, Bicycle Outfitter was the most reliable and knowledgeable handling my bike. Highly recommended for the service related work here. For the sales, you might feel not getting any offer to help.
Great bicycle shop in Los Altos. Knowledgeable and kind staff. Excellent service department.
I'd like to thank the staff at Bicycle Outfitter for fixing my bike this afternoon(I did not get his name.). My bike chain got tangled with my bag strings, and he removed the tangled strings for free. He was very, very kind, too. Thank a lot!
Custom order was carefully spec'd and all costs thoroughly explained.
These guys are great, highly recommended. Only place in the area that carries Co-Motion tandem bikes.
Stephanie, the store manager, is super knowledgeable about bicycles and has amazing patience. We are interested in tandem bikes and she told us what to look for, why Co-Motion bikes are great, and allowed to test ride a couple of the tandem bikes on the store. Will definitely be buying our tandem here when we decide to go for it.
Thanks for great service with my new tires and installation.
Helpful sales folks, but even better mechanics whom I can trust.
I have been here a few times to get my road bike serviced. They provide excellent service and the price is pretty reasonable. Highly recommended.
I've been going to BO for YEARS and have purchased 2 bikes from Dave. My Trek which was amazing and my ORBEA which is just about ready for retirement. I moved to Arizona 2 years ago and called Dave with a question about my frame. Not only did he remember me, but he was so incredibly helpful and offered his assistance if I needed anything in the future. If you're looking for an absolutely quality bike shop for both Mountain and Road Bicycle Outfitters is the place!! Thank you Dave for running such a top notch shop!
Karyn (Friend) Baker
Great place to test ride, buy and fit a new bike. Orbea and Trek. Or just roll in and pickup parts; they'll help you install them. All around good service department and friendly staff.
So friendly and helpful. They really take care of you.
Friendly, and accurate information on their products on their web site. Makes it easy to order online and pick up from the store without going in during the epidemic.
Don't go to the dude with glasses with a goatee he had a rude behavior and dosen't help at all keeps saying the same thing and dosen't even let you talk. I guess his brain is filled with air who knows? Very Unprofessional He's the one that considered himself as a local redneck.
They are well-stocked, knowledgeable and friendly, with a great bunch of mechanics, too. Very pleased with their service!
Thank you, David, and The Bicycle Outfitter, for accommodating my unusual request to pack and ship a "parade bike" that I had purchased remotely. It arrived in pristine condition thanks to your care and attention!
Top notch products. Great suggestions from staff, super professional!
Very bad customer service. No clarity on where to stand and no motivation for any sales. Any body interested in a high priced bike should probably go to somewhere else for a better service
Worst customer service EVER!!!!
Ordered a part online (8/4/2014) so I could pick-up at store. On 8/6/2014 I looked at "order progress" online, and it said "Ready of Pick-up". Went to the store...part could not be found, was told "it should be in, in two days...we will call you".
On 8/11/2014 I decided to call the store, because I had not received a call back, to find out about the order. The part was still MIA, but "It should be in, in two days...We will call you".
Today is 8/21/2014. I'll call the store again to see where the part is at. I have a suspicion that the part is coming via covered wagon, or maybe by pony express.
