Ideal Hotel & Restaurant (Best Western) based in City Centre.Cathedral..not to be missed..
George Hotel used to be a very good place for a snack. It has gone down in the last few months. You wait a long time for your order and some times it is not what you ask for. Also they think it is funny if you have an allergy and they give what you can not eat.
It is a quiet nice and cosy hotel! The style is old English and the personel is very friendly. The room I stay in was big enough, clean and warm it had a big and very comfy bed, and a bathroom with a shower. I had a kettle and an iron in the room, but unfortunately nit a hair dryer. The breakfast was continental: cereals, a small amount of fresh fruits and a lot of eggs and fried food.
I really liked the atmosphere in the hotel, due to the english style and can recommend it!
Lovely food nice gin selection .....not for me for the wife...but Guinness was very good also
Lovely for afternoon tea and a natter with your friend
We met at work in Lichfield 30 years ago and decided for our 27th wedding anniversary to go back to where it all began for us. We picked the George Hotel for it s central location and it s write ups on the various websites such as Trip Advisor. We were more than happy with the room with it s four poster bed, separate sitting room and two TVs. We were looking forward to celebrating our anniversary with a meal in the well regarded restaurant at the George but were left feeling a little flat as the restaurant was in effect closed to us. We stayed on the 16th of February and the hotel had chosen to hold a gin and food event on that evening and closed the restaurant to those guests who were not attending the event. We were offered a bar meal but chose to eat elsewhere and had a very nice Italian meal at a restaurant not too far from the hotel.
To be fair and balanced the hotel and room were excellent but we were very disappointed that the restaurant was closed to us as we do not drink gin and did not want to attend the arranged function. Had we been informed that the restaurant was closed to those who were not attending the gin and food evening we would have stayed elsewhere. We also think that the hotel should have offered alternative dining arrangements for those guests who did not want to attend the gin and food function.
Nice surroundings but the staff member that served me was not very friendly
Had a great meal cooked and served by a local school at the George hotel, it's great they support the student in this way every year
Got room booking incorrect. Side of bath is painted plywood. Silicone sealant is appalling. Grills falling off front of heater. Awoken at 6am by deliveries pushing trollies and stacking baskets.
Afternoon tea was awful. Hardly got anything to eat . Went home hungry
Visited on Sunday and had the 3 courses. All the courses were really nice and the only carvery I know that asked if you wanted more meat. Callum who served us was very attentive, nothing too much trouble which is all you can ask for. Thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely visit again
Stayed at this hotel for a wedding and had a great stay staff very friendly food was great would recommend it to people
We had a BuyaGift voucher for a gift from family and it caused a problem with receptionist Holly and restaurant staff. This was very embarrassing as we had guests with us. We were over charged twice which took a long time to sort out. Also the evening two course meal could be greatly improved. We wanted a standard room but were given an upgrade which we had to pay extra for. Although on the telephone Lynn said it would be waivered. Obviously we won't be shopping again.
The room was incredibly small although it was clean. No hot water left for the second shower. The food was 1970's British rail.
Consistently the best Sunday roast dinners for a few miles around. Not expensive either.
Do not get room 20 it is opposite a night club. Breakfast is mediocre.
No one on bar as serving preparing tea two people standing talking when asked not happy i disturbed then commented he is there clearing when he was not there when I needed serving Poor service and attitude
Great night at Only Fools and Horses .
Food was excellent and show brilliant .
Just had my first Christmas works 'do' at The George. It was a 3 course meal and disco. I thought it was a lovely meal and great venue.
We have a very enjoyable visit here. The hotel is very welcoming, staff are friendly and it's central for Lichfield. The bedroom was dated but very clean and comfortable, with plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. It had a shower and bath. The hotel doesn't have a lift and has lots of stairs and steps, so not suitable for people who are unstable on their feet. Food was excellent for dinner and breakfast. We also did the murder mystery which was great fun. Would recommend.
Very nice place, staff friendly, drinks are slightly on the pricey side but very nice atmosphere in here
The George Hotel is THE place to stay in Lichfield. Central location, own parking, walking distance to everywhere.
Excellent restaurant (Darwins) and a pop in bar where you can grab a soup and sandwich, or a cup of coffee with a friend.
Refurbished rooms, and a warmth and ambience.
Polite and friendly staff.
Ideal venue to hold your wedding or occasion, or business meeting.
On a personal note, my Townswomen's Guild Ladies Group meets there on the second Monday in the month in the Garrick Suite.

Nice place to grab lunch or a drink when the town is buzzing.
Good food and good service. Do not forget to print off your discount voucher.
Had a drink and sandwich here friendly staff present atmosphere worth a visit
Great staff. Lovely food. Rooms very basic and dated. lots of dust on the bedside tables, water scolding hot, easy to burn hands. Place does have character and a good location so overall would stay again
Mostly ok, air-conditioning not working in our room. A lot of noise from outside windows open.
Grand place. Went there for a family wedding and reception. Besides a fantastic meal they also offered vegetarian and gluten free options and did follow ups with those guest that chose the options. Really clean and well organised. They have wheelchair acces doors, lifts, toilets and rooms. The staff were amazing and diligent.
Very good breakfast, incredibly friendly staff, will be booking again for next year.
Hotel it s in very great location, very friendly staff, great breakfast, room is very neat and clean bed is very comfortable, price is very reasonable. Would highly recommend visiting if in the area.
Ate in the restaurant on Thursday 28th September. Food very good and gluten free menu available. Service poor, at no point were we asked if meal was okay, or asked if any further drinks required. Asked for the bill and kept waiting, restaurant probably had 15 people so not full, do no excuse for service!. Experience this evening has lost them my companies future bookings.
We like the George. Once you get the right room everything else is fine. Great location, nice breakfast.Staff are friendly, free parking.
The George Hotel is an old building, characterful & absolutely well maintained; clean, warm with quality decor & spacious rooms.
Staff are excellent & this hotel will make you feel restful & cared for.
Absolutely faultless, had a brilliant stay, excellent food and very friendly staff.
I attended a wedding here. Was great facilities and the rooms were very reasonable. They had everything you could possibly need in it. The food was really good too and they had a great selection of gins too.
Very disappointing carvery meal, only choice of Turkey or Gammon, no fresh veggies - undercooked cauliflower/broccoli in mushy sauce, tinned tasteless carrots! Sweet not enjoyable either. Will not be returning, far better quality and value at the Toby!!
The restaurant and restaurant staff are great firstly.
However - the reception staff are incredibly rude. The rooms are noisy, the corridors creaky, housekeeping staff bang around very early, the management don't particularly care when you do complain and are very defensive.
We signed a corporate contract with a manager at the hotel and when asked to see the person in question, the receptionist said that she had never heard of him and that she has worked there a long time etc etc. When I asked the manager about this he accused of making this up.
If you bring ear plugs with you, can get over the snotty receptionists then you will be fine. The restaurant food is actually quite good (not the breakfast which is low quality). They have a very good gin selection and the location is good. I have since offered the corporate business to another hotel and have had a great experience with them and they actually seem to care about their customers.
We spent our wedding night here and it was beyond amazing, nothing was to much, staff food everything was amazingly beautiful
We had a christening these lovely place staff and manager first class
Lovely afternoon tea. Excellent service. Will certainly be back.
The location is very easy to find and looks lovely from the outside. The staff were friendly and service was with a smile
Lovely hotel in excellent location. Our room was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. There was a small fridge/ mini bar, a tv , tea coffee an iron and ironing board, we only stayed 1 night but enjoyed our stay.
Always good food, good staff, lovely ambience at reasonable prices
Dropped into the bar for a light lunch with a friend. The staff are efficient and friendly. The sandwiches are generous and include a salad garnish with crisps. The decor is in keeping with the style of the older building. Will go again.
Really nice and great location. Getting into the car park was a tad tricky. Room was really nice. Traditional four poster. Nice room. The only downside is that my room was opposite the local walkabout bar which lives up to the stereotype for noise and aggressive antics outside at stupid o'clock in the morning.
The breakfast was really nice.
The staff were amazing. Very friendly, helpful and informative. Great stay. 4 stars purely because I had the noise outside my window.
Finally. The rooms feature air con which was great on the one day of summer when I happened to be staying in Lichfield.
You will not be disappointed.
To spend a night for work is decent, the wifi does not work too well and breakfast is justito. To be of step, near it has restaurants and pubs quite authentic where to be able to go out to have dinner or to take something, that yes, this centrico and is calm.
Very friendly staff, great breakfast clean room, will be back soon..
We usually opt for the major chains but tried this hotel because of the free parking. Pleasantly surprised; very friendly service, a decent breakfast and a comfortable room with everything you need. All the tourist attractions in Lichfield are a short walk away, and loads of nearby eating places. The price is on a par with the big brands, but the interior ambience and the service is much better.
Any downsides? Car parking is limited, although we had no problem. Access to some rooms requires negotiating several staircases and uneven floors, so if you have any mobility issues mention it when booking. At certain times I guess noise could be an issue, and soundproofing won't be to the standards of newly built hotels. Having said that, midweek in January gave us no problems on that score.
As stated, breakfast was good, and nice to have tea/coffee and toast brought to your table. The Darwin's restaurant is a little pricey for everyday dining, but good for a special occasion. Bar meals are available at less cost. Craft ales fans will be disappointed, some cask beers in the bar would be a nice addition, but if you're a gin fan there are plenty to choose from.
Overall, a good experience.
Really nice quaint place food lovely and staff were so polite.
We went to our very dear friends wedding here. Shame food was not as goox as it could have bern.
The George was a nice place to stay it's central for pubs and bars or cafes. We had a Christmas party there
and was a fab night. The breakfast was lovely and staff were helpful and happy to help. Its a place to stay if you want to be close to all.
Classic English country pub hotel. I thoroughly recommend it.
I used to live in Lichfield and usually go back a couple of times a year. I always try to book into The George and will alter my dates to secure a room there rather than go elsewhere. It has got everything I enjoy in a hotel; a very pleasant, roomy lounge bar which is usually quiet enough to do a bit of work on my laptop whilst being plied with reasonably priced cups of coffee or a glass of wine by affable staff. There's food available in the lounge/bar area all day till late evening so if you don't feel like a restaurant meal, you can still get well fed in an informal atmosphere. It is so very central, you just walk out of the elegant entrance foyer and there you are right in the thick of the hustle and bustle of this ancient Cathedral city. There's free car parking too. They have managed to retain the hint of a slower pace of a bygone age without the place being gloomy or tired - and they are providing modern facilities such as wi-fi ALL OVER the hotel. I just love it there.
Very good carvery go several times a year yet to be disappointed
Good place for a pub lunch or coffee.
Relaxed atmosphere, helpful staff.
Dated but central. Parking available most of rue the times.
Had a drink on the court yard. Beautiful sun trap. Was a wedding happening. Will try and stay there next time. Clean and nice staff.
Lovely atmosphere. Great staff. Has a very interesting layout which is charming and shows it has history.
Well run hotel. Carvery was enjoyed by all. Good service. Restricted parking - large car park nearby. A good start to the Christmas break !!
