I wanted to eat at Bern's for years and my boys took my wife and I for my 60th birthday. We enjoyed our meal, the tour and the dessert room. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices. The steak, although clearly superior in quality, was underwhelming in preparation. The lack of bread with the meal, a culinary decision, and the uninspiring sides left me a little less impressed than I expected to be.
The location was a dark, interesting throwback to yesteryear and I will likely try again but I might eat in the bar and request specific preparations for the steak.

What a fantastic meal! Cannot say enough about the quality of wine and steak. The service is fantastic. From start to finish Matt took absolute care of everything. The wonderful environment to the knowledgeable team made this a dinner to remember. Parking is tricky. Valet parking is available but if you are not valeting plan ahead. Food 8/10, service- 9/10, experience 8/10, parking 5/10

I was just hung up on by their customer service. I informed her I was leaving a review the moment our call ended. And click. Nice.
I made a reservation for 7 pm on 2/6, with a random person. They took my email, phone, name etc. I received no confirmation of reservation, so thought I'd call to confirm. I was told no, it was for 10 pm. And no change has been made since reservation was taken. I made the mistake, somehow misunderstood. I'm articulate and repeated myself to be clear. I stated no mistake made on my part and asked to speak to a manager. None available, all on the floor. I had a party of 3, so my guess is I was bumped for a bigger ticket table. Disappointed.. but would rather spend my money with a restaurant that truly values their customers.

The experience was outstanding. First time dining here. Delicious food, including dessert. I'm sure the alcohol is excellent, although I don't drink. The lemonade was tasty though. Very attentive staff. The tour of the kitchen and wine cellar was really neat. Just be prepared to empty your wallet.

I visited back in October and had a great experience. Fantastic service. Great drinks. Really good food. They have the best crab cakes. The atmosphere is cozy and almost mysterious even. A nice place to relax. A must see if visiting the Tampa area.

The kitchen isn't all that clean. Come on. I wouldn't be showing it. We slipped out of the tour. Glad we seen what we had after the meal. Just not the upscaled menu or restaurant we expected as posted on the website. To us it's past due for an update and cleaning.

All around great experience. I've been to Bern's many times and the food and experience is the same incredible experience every time, with just one exception. Highly recommend to anyone that's never been, you won't be disappointed. Be sure to take the kitchen and wine cellar tour and have your server make a reservation for the dessert room.

Very unique steak themed restaurant in Tampa. Probably better known for one of the most extensive restaurant wine lists in the US if not the world. Fantastic service. Consistantly good food. Steak comes with soup, salad, potato and trimmings. After dinner, there is an extensive upstairs dessert area with seating built into large wine barrels. Extensive list of dessert wines and spirits and very good and large desserts. Valet parking. Hotel on property.

My wife and I recently enjoyed dinner and the environment at Tampa's famous Bern's Steakhouse! Bern's is always our choice when we are celebrating special moments! This evening our Bern's visit was preceding an evening at the Straz for a showing of "Wicked" so we didn't make it to the Dessert Room. Our dinner, drinks and service were as always "impeccable!" Do not miss the Dessert Room on your visit as it is memorable! Let me know if my review helped you.

Food was terrific as expected. Steak was a top 3 for me and the extras on the plate such as the onion rings were a nice touch. Tour of the kitchen and wine cellar is a must for a first time patron. The dessert room was a pleasant surprise with a very intimate atmosphere. I will plan on making trips just for the dessert room in the near future.

I would say that the service disappointed me. The waiter took 40 mins before water was even brought to the table or asked for cocktails. This is unacceptable for any establishment of this caliber. Our cocktails sat on a server behind our table for 10 mins while the server happily visited every other table other than ours. I should have called for a manager, but my wife didnt want to be embarassed. When the server brought our drinks he then rushed us to order and then addressed my table as "you guys". There was no introduction, no welcome to berns, no specials, nothing. I told him that I am here for the experience and I am going to order as such. After my statement, the service did improve throughout the rest of the meal, but the original issues really soured the meal for myself and my company.

I believe every restaurant is usually worth visiting twice and i hope my service is much better the next time I visit. Without the service mishaps it would have easily been 5 stars. However, once i account for the service i cant justify giving more than 3 stars. I added a picture of my desserts in the dessert room.

This place has a legendary reputation, one of the rarest & largest wine collections in the world, fantastic, impeccable staff who aim to please--that's it! Like their outdated Baroque style interior design, their steaks leave much to be desired. I've tried so many variations of their steaks, Including their Kobe beef from Japan, which comes with a certificate showing a nose-print of the animal it came from, along with animal's name and its parents' names! Most times I've have to send my steak back to be recooked, or change completely because of the dissatisfaction with the taste and flavor. I took my daughter, who loves steaks, to Bern's for her birthday, and she said she does not want to go back again. At the end of the day, it's personal taste. Some of my friends say it's overrated. And I know many that claim it's the best steak they've ever had. But sometimes I wonder if they just say that because of Bern's reputation, or the difficulty of getting reservations there. Bon appetit.

My boyfriend and I went here last night for our anniversary dinner. Our server, Davor, was delightful, he was probably about 90% of the reason our experience was so great. He made us feel like he was our grandfather and suggested different ways of trying the food and wines. The food itself was amazing. We started with the crab cakes (so good!). For the salads, my boyfriend asked our waiter to "surprise him" with which salad dressing to put on it and he brought back this lovely French dressing. I chose to get the caesar salad and the option to have the dressing made table side. DO IT. It's very very good. French onion soup is the best I've ever had. We both got steaks, which were very good, cooked perfectly. We both had sangria to drink and it was the best sangria I've ever had. Davor did also let me taste a wine they had there; it was the only sweet red wine they had and I don't usually like red wine because it's so dry, but this wine was great. If you like sweeter wines I suggest at least tasting it when you go.
We went on a tour of the kitchen and wine cellar and both our tour guides were very nice.
Finally we went to the dessert room, where the only complaint I have is that our waiter, Julio, I think, seemed more like he should work in a sports bar, not a fine dining restaurant. He had a dry sense of humor, which is fine, but almost complained about making us the Bananas Foster dessert that we ordered, saying it's a pain to make on a busy night, but tonight it was okay because they weren't busy. He also said he doesn't understand what the big deal is about the Bananas Foster. I feel like it's one thing to say "The bananas foster isn't my favorite dessert here, but (insert dessert here) is my favorite." But he just went on about how he doesn't understand the hype and how it's a pain to make. As a server in general, you're supposed to be selling your menu items, not making people feel uncomfortable about ordering it. He did end on a nice note thanking us and saying he was glad we enjoyed everything, but he did rub both me and my boyfriend the wrong way personality wise.
Overall a very nice experience and we would definitely return. I would definitely recommend asking for Davor as your server for the dining room.

I normally don't give reviews, as I allow room for error, but I wish I would have been warned. I am going to give a few stars for ambiance. It does have a very nice feel, the service is average, and the food. Terrible! 4 people and $500 later, waste of money. The French onion and shrimp cocktail was the best. The steak is beyond disappointment. We each ordered a different steak, and the sampler entree. The wagyu steak, yes it is fattier, but was literally all fat
Only one edible piece for almost $100. The waiter informed us that people pay big money for that fat. Lol Medium was well done, no salt or flavor on any steak. We waited 5 years to come here. We drove from Orlando, rented a room, and it was so unsatisfying we came back to the hotel and ordered room service. We all wanted our experience to be great, as we have always heard, but it was so far from it for all 4 of us.

Update: The manager called and talked to me in a way as if I wanted something back from them, all we wanted was a great meal. I wanted to come back home and brag about Bern s because of how I hear everyone talking about how they are so great, but he made me feel so low after he talked to me I lowered my star to 1, I m very disappointed in the way things were handled. Thanks Bern s, never again. My husband is a veteran and I have lot more to say but I ll keep it to myself.

Let the waiter guide us through the steak menu - because it's impossible to navigate yourself. With the many courses, don't order too big of a cut of beef. Don't miss the desert room upstairs. You can go to the desert room without eating at the dining room and the dress code is MUCH more casual upstairs. In the dining room, some people dress up in coat & ties and others are in a collared shirt with slacks - no coat, no tie. Excellent food & service.

The front desk/dining room manager Frank Russo has just made me a loyal customer for life. I have never had any professional at any restaurant be so extraordinary. He bent over backwards for my family to make sure that their evening was special and helped me (a stranger) with details. This man has no idea how much he has done to put a smile on the faces of my loved ones, and I can tell he would be this helpful to all of his guests. Thank you again Frank!

Not only the world's best restaurant but they treated us well. We flunked the dress code due to our professional magic the gathering uniforms. However, they got us a private room anyways and the food and service were exceptional as always.

I used to eat there in the 80s and 90s and it was excellent. We ate there recently and the quality of the service just is not the same. I prefer Ruth Chris and I think perhaps the waiters there are burned out. The food was above average but not as good as it once was as well as the dessert room was just not as good and the waiters do not seem to be as willing to serve the guest as before. I was disappointed and sadden to find how different it is now.

Been gong to Bern's for over 10 years. Food is always excellent. Have to agree w/some of the other reviews that was not greeted warmly (if at all) on my recent visit. Customer service seems to have gone down, although the food is still great.

Named Top 5 USA steakhouse for good reason. Call for a reservation, they are booked for weeks or months in advance. The tour and dessert room never get old. Sit back relax and enjoy. (roughly 2.5-3hrs) If you want to impress your guests or clients from out of town, this place is a must!!!!!!!

Been a customer for fifty years. Deep focus on wine, food and the presentation a bit mechanical. The place is a bit of a factory, but the quality holds over time, the place is an iconic bookmark in time. It's become a bit too casual, that's America, the place is a wild west madhouse; but if you want a truly great steak with all the trimmings included in the price and really excellent wine choices, even by the glass, it's still worth a visit.

It is NOT romantic, it's raucous and bawdy. My wife is more old school than me, won't go due to how poorly we were shuffled through mechanically on a *designated anniversary booking* a few years ago. I just revisited and made the observations noted and self-guided myself through the myriad of rooms since I know the place having been here 50? times. It's loud have no pretensions that this is "fine dining", but I am impressed the quality of meat and vegetables (real vegetables) is being maintained. Photos added.

The overall experience at Bern's is amazing, take a tour and check out the largest private wine cellar in the world. From start to finish the meals are top notch. Visit the dessert room to finish out the night

Don't compare it to any other restaurant you have been to. This is an experience unlike any other. Make sure to set aside 4 hours because you will want to have dinner, do the tour, and go to the dessert room.

I have been an active customer of Bern s for the last 32 years, since 1987. I made a reservation over two months ago for Friday, August 9th at 8 P.M. I made the reservation over the phone, the same way I have been doing it for many years. The person who took my reservation did not ask for an email, which is why I never received a confirmation message. When I arrived to the restaurant, they told me that there was no reservation under my name. My family (party of 4) could not be seated and we had to leave the restaurant. We live in Miami and travelled to have dinner at Bern s. I am extremely familiar with Bern s and the timing and importance of making reservations, which is why I would never come to the restaurant without one. As a frequent customer of Bern s and a fan of the restaurant, I am disappointed in the lack of professionalism and hope this improves in the future.

I have been coming to this restaurant for the past 6 years at least once a month. I have had an excellent experience every single time. You will not regret! Make sure to try the delmonico steak and their Macademia ice cream sunday. This house made ice cream was the white house's official ice cream! Also, please try their Truffled corn and the purple sweet potato with ginger sauce. Oh and the mushrooms! Ok, everything is good! Enjoy!Oh, ok, last thing: banana foster!! Ok, i'm done :)

Bern's is an amazing legendary restaurant. Please be aware that there is a dress code!!!! First service. The staff is very knowledgeable and professional. Then, there is the meal, every entree comes with french onion soup that is devine. And the salad comes from their own organic garden. The age beef is the most tender steak I have ever had. After the meal, you get to tour the kitchen and wine cellar. The collection is pushing 1 million bottle including the a separate warehouse. Then there is the dessert bar upstairs. It's a fun night out at a restaurant. Love it!!

This is the best and one of the fanciest places I've eaten at. The ambiance is calm and familial.

The steak is beyond delicious. Soft, tender, aged well, and off course they have a vegetarian option. After a 3 course meal ( soup, salad, 3 sides and meat) they bring you on a quick tour of the kitchen (yes, while they are working!) and wine cellar (millions of dollars down there!). It is an incredible production.

(We ate the lobster appetizer also, highly recommended.)

You then get to go upstairs to the desert room. I was a little claustrophobic in there as you are seated in your own enclosed wine barrel looking area, each booth fitting between around 2-8 people, withthe walls going to the ceiling, sort of trapping you in. I was getting a dungeon vibe, although I'm sure they were going for wine cellar with soft lighting.

Bathrooms we're clean, service was impeccable, everyone was smiling. It want study, it was welcoming.

This place isn t just about dining, it s a full culinary experience. Quality is unmatched and service is top notch. From their steaks to their dessert and everything in between, the quality and experience you receive doesn t match the extremely affordable price. I would expect to pay 50-80% more for an experience like this. It s the gem of Tampa, even after all these years!

Got the tomahawk steak split it with my wife was absolutely out of this world with so good that what I must certainly like to eat more desert Wren was a nice little bit pricey the cool thing is getting a tour of the place. Many restaurants will take you back in the kitchen and you show you how everything is made very good for celebrations

Bern's steakhouse is a great restaurant for a special occasion and/or if you'd really like to impress someone! Restaurant offers valet parking and upon entering setting is softly lit and elegant. Menu lists and explains EVERY cut of meat. If you still have questions your waiter is very well versed w all that goes on here. Sommelier will give expert opinion on wines by the glass or bottle.
You may take a tour through their kitchen and meet the chef. You can also tour the extensive wine cellar which extends under the street. They have wines for every palate. Some of the wines are hundreds of years old as well as rich in history. After a delicious meal you will then be escorted upstairs for your very own personal booth for desert and after dinner drink where you may listen to your very own little antique juke box of sorts. I highly recommend this restaurant as it has fabulous food and drink, as well as, a whole dining experience! FABULOUS! Not our first time and we definitely look forward to coming back, again and again!

Excellent service, great spirit selections, excellent cuts of beef, some limitations on the wine menu, one undercooked fillet and some OK veggies. A solid performance and a great time with family. Well done social distancing practices.

Still haven't been for dinner but the Desert room is absolutely amazing. It's dimly lit and provides a really great atmosphere. Each party is tucked away in it's own private seating area with the option to play any music you'd like. I recommend the macadamia nut ice cream sundae. BEST THING EVER!
