We enjoyed the food. We had to wait two hours during the holiday weekend for a table. We got there and was sat and our server did not seem like she wanted us there. I m sure she had a busy night but it was not our fault. My mom did not receive the correct drink and was afraid to mention it. The table next to us had very attentive service and I was a bit jealous.

The high ratings on here are solely for the face value of the place which quickly disappear. We had placed reservations, which when mentioned to the seater she looked like a deer in headlights and we ended up waiting 30 minutes to be seated.
Gordon, our server, could not have been more disengaged if he tried. All of our orders were brought to the wrong person at our table, the temperature of my steak and my daughter's steak were mixed up, any question about the menu was met with a scoff and a glare. I would have loved to have sent the steaks back but by then we had waited over an hour for our food and the extra wasted time with tired children was not worth it. But, when it came time for the bill he was certainly all smiles and handshakes.
I have been here one time prior and it was ok then but nothing spectacular, but this episode made it unlikely I'll return again.
When my wife and I want a steak dinner, we drive 68 miles to eat a Bennie's Red Barn. That's an indication of how much we like the food served at this restaurant. Recently I ordered the fried chicken, and it was probably as good as I've ever had. We do recommend this restaurant to others, and hopefully, we will be returning for many years to come.
Extremely happy with our experience, from all the staff, the atmosphere and especially the food we loved the the salad and steak. Our waitress Holly was great and our visit from Chip at the end topped it all off. Thank you!
Amazing! Fabulous from the moment we made our reservation to when we left. We couldn't find better food on the island. Denise was the best server and the man singing was so fun! Would come back over and over!
Friendly wait staff. Rolls were a bit bland and salad was nothing special. Scallops were exquisite and generous in portion. Lasagne was good and salmon was properly cooked. Local catch fish was nearly tasteless. Desserts were good: Derby pie was over the top. Pecan pie was great with chopped pecans instead of whole halves. Apple pie was fully cooked and but crust wasn't the best. Peach cobbler disappeared quickly, so it was probably good, too!
Best restaurant on the island. There broiled scallops were phenomenal. There yeast bread. Omg. Everone else loved there food as well. They all had steak of some sorts and they all loved it. Service was great. Prices were higher than what I am used to but you get what you pay for. We would definitely recommend this place as a special treat.
They did a great job of accommodating a large party after working through a few of their policies.
The food was good enough and I really enjoyed the flavor of the steak cooked over wood.
My biggest issues would be:
1. I know this isn't a huge thing for taste, but the plating wasn't up to the atmosphere. The surf and turf consisted of about 7 bite sized pieces of steak and fried shrimp. The plate made it seem like the steak was an afterthought or cut up for kids.
2. The food came out cold for the most part. This was probably due to trying to get everything out for a large party at around the same time.
Overall, I would come again to give it another shot, but not with a large party.
Our waiter has been Kurt for the past 3 years seance we found this gym of a place and people...he has always been awesome as well as the food....the real life of the red barn experience is in the gentleman that goes around and graces is with his songs...he brings so much more to table than food so please don't forget to tip generaslyand make sure they know how great they truly are
This Restaurant started back in 1950's. We came to the Beach to eat Seafood, but tonight we ate FRIED CHICKEN. FRIED CHICKEN, you must be kidding me. Yes, Fried Chicken. It was Great. One of their Specialities. It was Delicious, Hot, & Crispy. One Half Chicken (4 Large Pieces) served with their House Salad and Choice of one Side for $15.75. Tiffany, our server, did an Outstanding job keeping an eye on our needs. All Desserts are "Made in House" except for the Cheese Cake. If you like Generous "Hand Cut" Steaks cooked over a Wood Fire Grill, this is the place to go. Yummers.....
Our family comes here for Sunday brunch on vacation. The food is always great and staff is friendly. However, it's long since failed to surprise me that the table service is inattentive. It's now part of the family tradition to have to chase our server for anything except the bill (which they bring promptly). I'd say 4 stars if the inaattentive service wasn't consistent year after year...that tells me it's just part the experience unfortunately.
I'm a 69 yr old male been in 48 States and over seas my passion is eating out on weekends with wife and friends not overweight just like good eatable food steaks one of my first choice .I have to say without a doubt the best t bone ever eat by some one other then me fixing it.not over priced and enjoyed the meal this was my first time there can't wait to ear the cowboy ribeye my buddy had it ,tasted it also good from Kentucky and done here for the winter will go back for the cowboy steak am not a person to recommend much of anything because usually fall flat on my face over it but go there and try a meal if don't like it tell them
LOVE! I had the fillet mignon. It was cooked perfectly! Staff was friendly. My table-mateshad fried shrimp, which we excellent. Overall, the food was great. Atmosphere is laid back & casual. Great restaurant! We'll definitely be back.
This is by far the most amazing restaurant we've have eaten at and we have ate at a lot of places all over the United states and this one tops the list great food great service and the best atmosphere I have seen in a restaurant
Food is wonderful. Healthcare provider finally braving the world outside...hoping we have learned. If you are looking for strict adherence to new guidelines, this is not the place. Why give employees mask if they aren't required to wear them properly? Perhaps DPH needs to provide training. The masks are designed to keep patrons and staff safe. Talking in close proximity to customers... without appropriate protection for customers.
I went to dinner here this evening; from the minute I entered the front door of Bennie s the staff made me feel like family. There was an event going on so I was escorted to another dining area (situated behind the bar). Amy, my waitress; was wonderful. She made it a point to check on me (and chat) even when I had everything I needed. Management also approached me to make sure that I was enjoying my meal. I couldn t have asked for better service.
The food was very good; I had the Cowboy (bone in) Ribeye.
Haven't been here for years. Visited today for Sunday brunch buffet and everything was perfect! Good variety of food. Friendly staff. Perfect for after church!
Well, not sure which review you looked at, but I did eat there, the filet mignon was awesome! The vegetables were classic southern seasoning, the bread appeared to be in house baked. It smelled wonderful right out of the oven! (not on my Paleo plan) The meal took out a $100 bill for 2 people. (no alcohol) No problem,... Quite tasty! WILL be back!!
My wife and I have come to Bennie's Red Barn every February for four years. This wonderful part of St. Simon's history is consistently delicious and always welcoming. The service is spectacular and we feel like part of the family. We find that the seafood and steak are both good quality meats and properly prepared. The staff will go out of their way to make things right. Highly recommended.
Our waiter was Jimmy and he gave us first class service. Rib eye, t-bone and filets were all excellent. Flounder was the only seafood entree ordered at our table of 8 and it was fabulous as well. Thank you Red Barn for a great evening!
I suggest ordering the dressing on the side; the salad was a bit wilted and heavy on the dressing. The steak was tasty; mine was cooked to my liking, but my husband's was a bit undercooked, but not enough to send back. Overall, our experience was fine and the service was very good. We'd happily return if friends wanted to eat there, but on our own, we'd probably choose another restaurant.
Food was excellent, service was horrible. The indifference of the manager, Denise, when I called was only out distanced by the horrible and substandard service at our 25th anniversary and 88th Birthday dinner. The only excuse given by the manager is that the server, Alicia, was new, deeming that the service was acceptable. I got better service at Highway 55 and the service at Red Barn was inexcusable. I made reservations at 4 pm for our dinner to be at 7 pm. When we arrived we were sat at an unset table with nothing but a tablecloth and other tables were set around us. It took 30 minutes to get salad, had to stop a busboy to get the salad, food came immediately after and was never acknowledged by the waitress if we needed any refills or was everything ok. We never saw her again until she brought the check. What was to be a special evening for us was a total disaster. If you ever get a waitress named Alicia, you better hit the ground running because your dinner experience with the Red Barn will be a memorable one. A horrible memorable one. JJ Share
Absolutely unacceptable behavior from our waiter. I would be more than happy to up the review to a 4 or 5 star, if I am able to get something done about this situation. My father in law took us out to eat here and we accrued a $215 bill for our outing and we enjoyed the food. The food was great. Perfect steak and scallops. Great tartar and cocktail sauce. The crab legs were your average snow crab and the bleu cheese dressing was sub par. All in all, a solid 4-5 star experience. This was the case, until the waiter decided to count his tip and get mad and act like we just did something awful to him. This waiter received a 50 dollar tip for his service and another waiter, who was an absolute pleasure, received a 10-20 dollar tip for his live singing performance. The waiter with the 50 dollar tip took the money and not only did he stop to count the tip in front of us, (I consider this rude to do in general in any industry where you receive tips.) but he actually made a face and got all pissed off about the tip. This was a plenty generous tip. In my opinion it was far too generous. I cannot believe the attitude this ungrateful guy portrayed, and after being a decent waiter for us during dinner. I will be following up with the restaurant about this issue.
Customer service was on point but the food came out in separate times, chicken was poorly seasoned, no seasoning on the steak, prices were great, story behind the restaurant added some cool ambiance to it. Good spot to check out but dont know that it would make my return list.
