The decor/theme is farm/barn, which is well done. But they also attempt to be upscale like a Ruth's Steakhouse, kinda of a strange combo. You get one menu for your table, I've eaten at true upscale restraunts, this is not normal.. for a party of 8 this is a pain. We pulled up menus on our phones to supplement. Prices were listed for everything except the steaks on their printed menu, prices are available online though, again....strange. There is a kids menu but it is not listed on the printed menu or website, you have to ask your server what's on the kids menu. The food is mediocre, we felt there wasnt much flavor, comparable to an Applebee's or Cheddars, just pricey. The girl that brought out our salads was super friendly and personable, wish I caught her name, everyone else seemed to not want to be bothered. Go check it out for yourself, it certainly is an oddity.

This was my first time going to the Red Barn February 16th 2018 me and my husband ordered T-bone steak dinner and fried shrimp dinner the steak was not cooked well done that's what we asked for anyway the shrimp was okay just not seasoned enough for us the salad was pre-prepared so the dressing had the lettuce soggy so they need to wait to put the dressing on but the service was good when I go back again probably not

How can you rate a place without tasting their food? How about the fact that when you go up to put your name in, you have to interrupt the hostesses in their fight? I do not need to pay an establishment when the staff is petty enough to argue where clients can hear, but also management that allows it. Done. Went elsewhere!

Bennie's red Barn has been a classy and tasty place to enjoy family friends and now as I'm older, memories Alike. My favorite spot in the building was top floor middle table by the window as a child, and tonight I took my baby girl there to eat before her first prom. The trend continues and the food was great. The service was quick, accurate, And polite. From the. Greeter to the server Whitney and even the gentlemen running the salads. Very pleased! Thank you Bennie's red Barn for another delightful experience!

Great old American restaurant. Don't see many places like this anymore. Food was good but the fried shrimp had no flavor except when dipped in the sauce which was very good. Steak was very good and a giant serving. Staff is very friendly. Would recommend going here to see the building and experience this place. Probably won't see another place like this around anywhere else.

Worst meal we had on the island and the service was no better. We wanted to love Bennie's as it had good reviews and were in the mood for a good steak after a week of seafood. Worst filet I've had in some time. Mine WAS cooked to my liking but I had to salt it! No flavor at all. The waiter rushed us the entire meal and mentioned that he had gotten called in so he wasn't supposed to be working (and you could tell he didn't want to be). My boyfriend's steak (ordered medium rare like mine) was medium well at best and not good.

The oysters were the grossest thing I've ever seen/had. My sister ordered raw oysters for her meal and ate only one. They were already shucked - never seen that before - and literally all sitting in a bowl of water over shredded lettuce. Disgusting.

We left and went to the village for snacks and desserts. Please up your standards. I visited Bennie's 10+ years ago and DO NOT remember an experience like this. Bennie's was packed that night so we may be the anomaly and I hope we are, because we would like to find good steak at SSI.

Went with a group of rednecks who ordered seafood!!!! At a steakhouse!!! They claimed it was wonderful. I had the surf/turf. Steak kabob was perfectly cooked. Must try the bread pudding.

Had a great experience. Everything was delicious. My salmon was seasoned and cooked perfectly, no need for additional sauces. Ribeye was, key lime pie, and apple cobbler were amazing as well. Our waiter was on top notch. For those where lighting matters, it's a bit dim (ambiance).

My wife and I had a filet. It was excellent. Pecan pie a la mode was wonderful. Our only complaint was the salad. It is served marinated with house dressing. It was a little soggy. Dressing should be added right before its served. The server was excellent. He was knowledgeable and great personality.

First let me say that Benny's has some great steaks, and the red wine mushrooms are amazing. Having said that, don't order anything else. The shrimp was okay, and crab legs are hard to screw up but every other piece of seafood was just outright terrible. Scallops were not cooked properly, salmon was tough and overdone, and the fish was a total disaster. I was literally picking scales out of my mouth. They also need to work on what they call blackened. Inexcusable for an island restaurant.

The service was impeccable and atmosphere always pleasant though. Just... wow, that was bad seafood, particularly for the price tag.

We go the Bennies every year for my son's birthday. This year they slipped a bit. Service was poor, leaks in the ceiling, rude hostess, lasagna came out ice cold. Positive the fried chicken and steaks were amazing.

This was our first visit. It wasn't what we expected, but was a nice change of pace. They have a verbal menu that is given by the server. My husband and I both had the filet with a baked potato. It was very good, and the desserts are all made in house. Steak, dessert, and a full bar, combined with the very down to earth environment made for a good time.

A little slow (small crowd, not the service) when I was there, but that just made it easier to get the bartender"s attention. Friendly and festive atmosphere - typical bar with better than average beer selection and bartenders.

Service was good and fast but the waitresses looked like they would sooner be somewhere else. Food was COLD. Broiled Shrimp was cold and limp and small like it was sitting in water. I think it came out of the bowl from shrimp cocktail. Vegetable Medley was cold. I didn't want to cause a scene because we were there with a large group from work.

Food and service was beyond amazing!! Best restaurant on the island! Wow factor above perfect! Wish I could post the video of the gentleman singing. Over the top impressed with food, service and atmosphere. Well worth it. Our waiter was also on point from the menu to the service. Thank you for our wonderful experience. I will definitely be back.

When you visit Bennie's Red Barn you are stepping back in time, 60 plus years, where the serving staff still wear white jackets and you feel the history of the building surround you. Set in a building built to look like a barn with large wooden timbers, overly large wrought iron chandeliers and a fireplace so large you could almost stand inside. Tonight the fire was blazing and most guests, locals, requested tables that surrounded it, the fire really added to the old world atmosphere of Bennie's.

Their menu is short and sweet, filled with grilled meats and seafood, and probably has not changed since they have opened. My husband looks forward to the 22oz. Cowboy ribeye steak, so tender and delicious and the lamb chops, my favorite, are a must have, flavorful and moist. All entrees come with their traditional wilted salad served in a wooden bowl with baked potato or fries and a smile from your server.

Bennie's is worth the drive to the end of the island, set under a canopy of trees, this imposing red barn just welcomes you in for a visit and a unassuming great meal. If your there on a Thursday you will find Mr Chip strolling and singing to the guests, what a treat. This place is like no where you have ever been.

I had a strip steak and it was a very good piece of meat cooked as ordered. My wife had crab legs which were also very good. Good pours on the drinks.

Service was good.

The only real issue for me was that the only salad available was a small house salad. I would have enjoyed a Caesar.

Bennie's Red Barn is one of the more popular historical destination places on the island from their restaurant to their tree bar.. the restaurant is famous for their steaks and baked potatoes they have other items of course big fireplace and Southern singers! Bevsurecandask about the history behind the barn look! The tree bar is equally popular with many great bands playing and a big dance floor for everyone to gather! My girlfriends and I often go out there on Thursday and Friday nights! Thursday night is Tony Adams who is a great local musician and they also have a free fish fry if you buy a drink it's the best deal on the island! And on Friday/Saturday nights they have great bands from around our local area! Again if the girls and I go we love to dance and we don't care ....we just enjoy being out together it's a great place to go!

Okay I have to rave about this place. I just had there all you can eat buffet today (Sunday) and I'm here to tell you the food is absolutely scrumptious. I mean the Mac and cheese was out of this world. They have seafood options, country cooking options, deserts, and like 8 different kinds of meat. It was wonderful! And let me say the staff was so warm and nice it was a pleasure dining here. I will definitely recommend it to everyone I know. I wish I could give it 10 stars because I would. Best place to eat in my area for sure.

Horrible. We were a party of two. Took 15 minutes until a server came to our table. He said the server's do not want small parties. The salad was soggy. The steak was dish water warm. The fried chicken was boiled chicken dipped in corn meal batter. The owner said it is our policy to comp the meal if you are disappointed. We offered to pay, he insincerely rejected our money. From that point on NO service. And what's with the gospel singer, CREEPY.

Our servers were on it! Didn t have to ask for anything, they were always a step ahead. Food was great, One of the best steaks I have had in a long time, try the filet mignon, cooked perfectly. My daughter got the fried chicken and I was surprised how good it was at a steak and seafood place. It truly was southern fried chicken, very good!!

Very good food and service. The ambiance was great. We very much enjoyed the serenade from the live entertainment, right at our table.

If visiting on a cool winter night, a sweater might be nice to bring along. The building is not insulated.

I reserved Bennie s Red Barn for my sons wedding rehearsal dinner December 13, 2019. Can t say enough about how pleased I was with the service. Chris Paolini the owner went out of his way to make sure every detail was flawless from set up of tables, reserving the DJ, ordering sacks of oysters, and keeping the Barbeque buffet replenished. Thank you Chris! When visiting Saint Simon Island in the future I will definitely be a customer.
