Very disappointed. The drs and nurses are great BUT after your initial appt. you play hell getting ahold of someone to help you with stage 4 cancer!!!!!! Call backs can be at least 24 hours if you're lucky!!! It's a trade off but what a decision to make when you're fighting for your life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a military patient with stage 4 bc. I relocated to AZ from DC in hopes of better medical treatment. Unfortunately, I felt like a number here. Every appointment I have had for medication, labs, physician, and etc. resulted in extremely long wait times ( in excess of 45-60 min) compared to what I am use to. In addition, my time with my physician is extremely short (5 min) and nothing is fully explained. I just had a pet scan and the physician literally told me everything looks good, however she does not explain lab or test results. I am an active participant in my health care PHYSICANS WORK FOR THE PATIENT NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! After the physician handed me my pet scan results and walked out of the room, I realized I did not understand the medical terminology on the report. I went to the front desk and asked for the physician to explain the results better. I was told that she would call me but never did. In addition, I told the physician I wanted my port removed. Two days later I received a call from the department that removes ports asking if I was on my way for the procedure....I was never contacted to schedule the appointment! I was then told that they don't know how I fell through the cracks. I am a wounded warrior and have a military nurse case manager. My NCM contacted patient advocacy and has yet to hear back as to why my treatment was so poor. I am transferring to Mayo Clinic this month.

I do not like at all the reason why I'm familiar with Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, but that aside, this place is amazing! Every single staff member I've had contact with has been super professional and very concerned for my well being. Staff that walk by almost always say Hi. And the level of care I've received thus far - in preparation for a clinical trial - has been superior. The facilities are outstanding. Highly recommended if you or a loved one needs the services this place provides.

The treatment I've received at Banner M.D. Anderson has been terrific. The doctors, nurses, and administrative staff have been wonderful and have gone out of their way to help me. I had chemotherapy on my birthday. My nurse went to lunch, and, when she returned, she brought me a piece of birthday cake! I highly recommend Banner M.D. Anderson.

RUN don t walk away from this cancer center! I ve had the worst experience of my life working with this medical office. I called over a month ago to get an appointment with a hematologist. I called to confirm that I was meeting with a hematologist and the gentlemen on the phone told me, yes your schedule to see a hematologist who is also an endocrinologist . During my appointment, with who I thought was a hematologist, I found out I was actually being seen by an endocrinologist. I paid over $300 for this appointment and M.D. Anderson scheduling intake office scheduled me for the wrong doctor. During their research they told me that it is in there are notes that, you did call in to see a hematologist . M.D. Anderson is refusing to give me my money back. I ve been fighting with them for two weeks and I ve gotten no resolution. There is one person at M.D. Anderson who has listen to me and who cares and that is Renika. Thank you Renika! This issue should ve been resolved in one day. They made the mistake and now they need to own up to it and refund my $300. They truly don t care about me one bit about me and they won t care about you either. I cannot schedule another appointment to see hematologist because I don t have another $300 for an appointment. I ve never been treated so badly! Lisa

Banner MD Anderson has elevated cancer care in Arizona so that patients like me finally can get state of the art treatment, care and follow up in the Valley. As a two time survivor who has been impacted by cancer for 30+ years I appreciate having a team I can count on to keep up with new developments that extend and improve my life.

Signed authorization for physical therapy medical records. Dates of services totally incorrect. Claims I was admitted by Dr. Lida Mina (medical oncologist) on 11/19/14. Wasn't diagnosed with breast cancer until 12/8/16. Did not meet Mina until April 2017. Records also claim "onset" was 12/15/18, which is in the future. What are they, psychics? Very sloppy record keeping. If you have cancer, go somewhere else!

I was told yesterday to see an oncologist and we needed to be worried. Called at 4:00pm and got the message that it was a 6 minute wait. Finally after a 45 minute hold, finally got someone. Told her about the wait and got we re answering the phone as best we can but short staffed, a coworker was in an accident but let me transfer you to intake . She assured me someone would pick up but no one did. Hung up after another 45 minutes. Never spoke to anyone. Spent the night crying. Let s see if they pick up this morning.

I started treatments at MD Anderson Oct18, 2018. I had surgery by Dr Brockmeyer and started Chemo Nov 2018 with Dr Chandavarkar. I finished my chemo treatment March 2019 I ended up getting cancer November 2019 started chemo treatments with Dr Chandavarkar again I have had two treatments out of six I found out when I went for my appointment on January 20, 2020 that my doctor Dr Chandavarkar was leaving MD Anderson also that Dr Breckmeyer was also leaving and I have to find a new oncologist because there was no one that could take care of me no one would be there. How can you leave patients like me with no doctors to take over when they are having cancer treatments. Not only that but I can t even get my medical records to my new doctor, I and my new doctors office has tried to get my records for two weeks. I am suppose to get Chemo next week but still waiting for my records. I thought MDAnderson was suppose to be this great cancer center but you don t care about your patients.

Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. After complaining about CT scans or CT scan procedures, being detrimental to my health( getting sicker after every CT scan) a barrage of their" best" doctors telling me CT scans have less radiation than being in an air plain or living in high altitudes and is safe. I wanted none or less CT scans per year. so they went for biopsy first in January, came back as atypical B-cell, inconclusive, they tried for another biopsy, the surgeon said it was to deep to get. the next surgeon took one out of the neck, atypical B-cell, inconclusive. tried for another biopsy,( see a pattern) the surgeon said the last biopsy was good you don't need another biopsy. So I asked the doctor if the biopsy were tested and he said the Houston office that tested was busy because of the hurricane...so they wanted to get a bunch of surgeries instead of telling me they did not send the biopsy in or tell me the results were not back.

This place is great, all the people are wonderful!! Recommended 100%!! But be careful with their valet, today I almost got hit by the idiot doing 30 mph through the parking lot. Do not let them park your car and watch out for them driving fast in the parking lot.

The staff are extremely friendly until you get to see Dr. Horst Kluppelberg one of the Oncologists/Hematologists. He is very cold and unsympathetic. Does not demonstrate the ability to listen to his patients or really care what they have to say. Demonstrates indifference and does not take accountability of any adverse affects of his treatment plan. We asked for a change of physicians and contacted Sarah Whitehead who returned my call once to tell me she would attempt to find someone else to take Dr. Kluppelberg s place. However, then never returned my calls to advise me.
All in all a shameful experience.

My mom is a patient at MD Anderson. When my mom was first told she likely had cancer from her pulmonologist (outside MD Anderson) who wanted biopsies to confirm his diagnosis. My mom was very concerned right away with the idea of the costs of cancer treatments and how ill she might get and it coming back. The doctor explained nothing about anything and placed her on hospice when she denied the biopsies.

About a month later family convinced her for a second opinion. We started going to MD Anderson for her tests. We weren't sure she had cancer until a nurse called to schedule an oncology appointment. We hadn't received a diagnosis or results back from the doctor, but we knew then and there she must definitely have cancer. It would have been nice if they had followed protocol and had a doctor explain to her the results of her biopsy before scheduling her appointment. Needless to say this was a bit of an overwhelming shock to go to the next appointment to receive the biopsy results already knowing what we would be told.

My mom had then began cancer treatments at MD Anderson for her stage IV lung cancer. Her first round of chemo went ok. She had been growing weak prior to the treatment so we expected that this just might be how it is. After round two my mom turned for the worst. After her 10 day follow up she had not been able to walk, she struggled to breathe, she couldn't bathe or use the restroom without help. On the day of the 3rd chemo treatment the doctor was shocked to hear she couldn't use the restroom on her own or had been bed ridden for weeks. It's as if the 10 day follow up we explained this that they weren't listening. She declined in health to the point where she can't do absolutely anything. She was admitted to the hospital at this point for further review.

MD Anderson Cancer facility has had great, happy staff that are always looking out for the patients best interest. Unfortunately the cancer centers doesn't tell you how to care for a person or what to do when they aren't able to take care of themselves. Her energy and strength and body weight was completely deleted to the point of being hospitalized and we watched it happen over the first 6 weeks just hoping she would get better and expecting that the facility would have continuous follow up or advice for caring for someone or when to call the doctor or take her to the hospital.

It's a great facility, but i'm a bit disappointed that she was run down to the point of not being able to continue her cancer treatments before anyone bothered to realize she wasn't doing well regardless of the communications from her. I've done enough research to know there are things that could have been done to assist her health while doing the treatments when the chemo depleted a persons platelets. She was dehydrated, in pain and unable to breathe for the last two weeks.

There was really no advice for home care and what to expect. I lost my dad last year to cancer and i'm just hoping they'll be able to treat her well enough to give us a little time and a little of her life back even if it's for a little bit.

Their diagnosticians are very weak. Appointments take too long to get. Also they wanted to repeat the same Liver Biopsy (with the same stains) for the 3rd time on my father, instead of using the same tissue that is saved from each biopsy. We got a second opinion that verified this. Due to their backlog of patients, my father died before they ever treated him. I've had two other doctors say the oncologist team is weak. I also had a friend there with pancreatic cancer there, that it took six months before they treated them, at least he could live that long. Backlogged with patients people aren't getting the treatment they needed. Go to Mayo!

Switched over here from Ironwood a couple years ago and all my favorite nurses from during my treatments are here now! My new oncologist, Dr. Olrickson, was fantastic. He listened to all my questions and spent the time to make me feel as comfortable as possible. I'm very happy that I made the switch to here. :)

I was going to do 5 stars for the staff and volunteers. I am feeling really bad about my appointment though. The NP didn't read my paperwork and almost missed an important symptom. If I wouldn't have brought it up it would have gone unnoticed even though I filled out the packet describing my symptoms. Then I was made to feel like I didn't tell her about it when she asked about a different symptom. Overall feel very bad after advocating for my health. Medical practitioners really need to consider how they're making their customers feel

My son is being treated currently by Dr. Jonathan Abbas. We are always treated well by every person we come in contact with. Volunteers and staff have gone out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Phone calls and health concerns are addressed quickly by Dr. Abbas' team. Thank you for caring. Also, the 5th floor (hospital) is awesome and take care of their patients with care and respect.

I have had decent experiences at this center until they cancelled a procedure 5 minutes before it was supposed to be performed. The PA, (I don t remember her name), came into the room, looked around and said that they couldn t do it because they don t have the right needle. Then she walked out. The nice nurses in the room said that someone would have to call me to reschedule. It seems odd that they would not be prepared for my procedure. It had been scheduled for weeks. Very disappointing especially when you had to find babysitting for your children and your husband just wasted a vacation day to accompany you, and now it has to be done again. On a positive note, I do like my provider there and the staff is usually very friendly.

My mother in law Marti Lavin is in hospital at Banner Gateway on the PCU floor. Her nurse Jenna is an extraordinary nurse who went above and beyond to put our family first and was aware of her needs. I would like to thank Jenna for her kindness toward Marti and my family. Jenna is truly the Best nurse at Banner Gateway and deserves to be recognized for the Daisy Award.

Absolutely love this place! Great service, everyone is so kind, and the best doctors I've ever met! I've never been in such an incredible place where the staff truly cares about the patients!

If it weren't for Dr. Wong I would be taking my oncology needs elsewhere. There has been a sharp decline in follow up and admin in the last year. Failed calls back, misdiagnosing cancer for valley fever, sitting in waiting rooms for a long time, asking for imaging documentation when it had been sent a couple times.... so on and so forth... I hope you guys can get back to where you were 3-4 years ago.

This place is amazing! I cannot recommend it enough. Not only do they provide world class, leading edge treatment....the staff helped me to just feel better. I felt safe. Dr. Tan....is an amazing surgeon and just a wonderful human being, who I count as one of my friends now. If you have had the bad diagnosis....I did...run to them.

This medical facility has done nothing but screw up my mother in laws tests and appointments at a time in which time is of the essence.
It took several requests to get them to allow my 80 year old mother in law
(a woman who can barely see, hear or walk) a companion to bring her to her visits. They gave her the news that she had aggressive cancer when she was at a doctor visit by herself.
The staff doesn t seem to know what they are doing or how to be compassionate.
They are the worst!

I had a biopsy at this facility by Dr. Servi. I was very happy with all aspects of care and knew immediately what the results were.
I was sorry when I called for more cancer issues this year to find Dr. Servi had retired. I was given to Dr Niu, he is amazing oncologist. After seeing him for 2 visits I am happy and amazed wit his caring attitude.

I chose to come here and be seen as we've heard great things about this facility and the staff. This is already a stressful and scary situation having to even come here at all as no one wants cancer. Had already dealt with another oncologist from our small hometown hospital where I live only to feel disregarded by our concerns and questions. Well let's just say this visit was worse than what we had dealt with from my first oncologist. I've never felt so disrespected and disregarded as a human being than I did here at my first consultation appt. Very rude and unprofessional. The Dr kept looking at my chest as I have BC but kept looking there while talking rather than looking at me. I'm a person and matter so make me feel like it. I felt like a patient number and not a living human being. She wouldn't even listen to what I had to say about anything I've already been doing naturally and wanted to keep brushing it off. Of course because they're in the business of selling medicine and pharmaceuticals. My husband who is my number one biggest supporter felt like he was brushed aside when asking questions or voicing his concerns as well. Very very disappointed with the Dr here. She should feel ashamed for treating people with such disrespect and disregard.

This has been one of the worst experiences I have had with a hospital. And still have not had my surgery, wonder what type of post-op care I will get. Sat in the doctors exam room for 2 hours and only once did someone stop in. That was 45 minutes into the visit. They acted like their time was more important than mine. Complained to the hospital about it but no one followed up. Getting anyone to return phone calls is impossible. Not happy at all and think I may switch to a different cancer center. Terrible experience but beautiful facility.

Sorry I can't give a good review yet. I just asked my Dr today to refer me there for a second option but reading the reviews I'm very not to sure now. More negatives then positives. ?????

Thank you to the volunteers! They greet you as you enter the building always with smiles on their faces. They are so helpful and caring. One of the volunteers gave me a tour of the facility, showing me all the different areas that I would be visiting before taking me to my appointment.

Had a fantastic experience. Went with my father for his first consult. Greeted by John the volunteer who took the time to walk me upstairs and find my dad. Doctor was on time for the appt. He had PREPARED in advance and read my dads medical history which was complex. He was attentive and answered all the questions without rushing us. He gave options thoroughly for treatment. They did an ultrasound right then and there and we had his next diagnostic visit scheduled before we left. Great experience!!!

I am receiving treatment at Banner MD Anderson. The staff and volunteers are very professional and welcoming. The atmosphere is wonderful and they provide high-quality care for all patients. The integrative options to accompany treatment are wonderful and reasonably priced, however they don t do a good job of letting patients know about the availability of these services, so be sure to ask and take advantage of the integrated care options.

I m extremely disappointed with Banner Cancer Hospital s policy for visitors. I understand covid-19 virus situation. My husband has been a Banner hospital patient for the past 3 year. He recently ended up with Liver cancer. Long story short, he ended up staying at Banner for infection issue on Sat and his liver cancer spread aggressively taking over approx 85-90% of his liver within 24 hours! Needless to say, this was super tough pill to swallow. Dr suggested to consider hospice or home care. On Mon, asked if I can see him & was allowed 1 hour for wife only. Didn t know it was for one time only! Saw him on Mon but due to complications, he was very in- coherent. But, never the less, it was good seeing him.
Tues- his situation improved slightly so asked to see if I can see him. That s when they told me that I ve already used my one time visit & they cannot approve 2nd visit! Dr told me, he could die any day now & I can t see him! This hospital is supposed to be about cancer patient & this is how they treat their cancer patient & their family?? How can I let my husband possibly die alone in hospital without even seeing him?? Shouldn t there be some law against this??

I am completely confident recommending Banner MD Anderson to my family and friends. I've always been impressed with the physicians' genuine care and attentiveness and know that being partnered with the No. 1 cancer center in the U.S. makes them the best at what they do.

This is a somewhat mixed review. 7 months ago my wife was diagnosed with stage 3c triple negative breast cancer. She is in an enormous fight for her life. After consulting with another treatment center we decided to seek treatment at Banner MD Anderson. So lets talk about the good first: Initially, Banner is very warm, caring and inviting. The facility is very nice and the volunteers are so good and making you feel as comfortable as possible. The waiting area are warm, comfortable and clean. The valet parking is a nice touch. If you do not use valet, there is plenty of parking and the facility is very easy to get in and out of.

My wife s oncologist, Dr. Mina was good, she is by the book and did a decent job at explaining options and all the processes and procedures. It did feel like Dr. Mina truly cared. By the book can be both good and bad.

The chemotherapy area is very clean and comfortable and the staff in the chemo area is wonderful! The lunch carts and knitted hats, scarves and gloves are wonderful, my wife really appreciated these greatly.

The chemotherapy regiment recommended for my wife was 4 AC treatments followed by 12 weeks, once a week taxol chemotherapy. Post chemo- My wife s surgeon refers to her has the poster child for adjuvant chemotherapy

So the chemotherapy Banner recommended worked! Now the BAD:
Administratively speaking, this place is a absolute joke, its like the right hand is not taking to the left hand . The doctors do not review or check charts before appointments. Multiple times the doctor would come into the room and have no clue what tests (bloodwork or radiological) we had done between visits multiple times we were told bu the doctor, we will have to send you for x test and then the results will take a couple days we had to tell the doctor, we had that test 5 days ago. Oh let
Me check you records sure enough, results are in the file! Scheduling is difficult, you are on their time for the most part
Surgery- Banner only has two surgeons on staff, Dr. Billar and Dr. Bynum. We met with Billar very early in the process and felt pretty comfortable with her. However, between my wife s chemo and surgery, Billar went out on maternity leave. Therefore we had to meet with Bynum and let me tell you, she is cold as ice, could not stop complaining about her surgery load doubling with the other doctor out. She got very short and aggravated when we asked questions and asked for justification for her recommendations. For example, she was absolutely adamant about removing all the lymph nodes in the arm. We questioned this based on our own research and the high risks for post surgery lymphedema in the arm. Dr. BYNUM became very short and aggravated when we asked these questions. We were so turned off by Dr. Bynum that we decided to seek additional opinions outside Banner. We consulted with 2 other surgeons outside of Banner and both said they would never never take all the lymph nodes in the arm. The side effects are extremely difficult and there is no cure! Plus the research all shows there is no reason to take all the lymph nodes because not all the nodes in the arm drain the breast area. The new standard is to inject dye into the breast pre surgery and then only Take the nodes that show dye. Additionally, Bynum would also not offer any legitimate explanation of why she would not even consider nipple sparing mastectomy. She said, that s not our standards. Furthermore, she would not even consider reconstruction at the time of the initial mastectomy! Said thats not our standards and basically lied by saying if radiation is required post surgery, it would be less effective if the reconstruction is done at same time. After consulting with other doctors we learned this is wrong and if you have radiation before reconstruction, the only option is FLAP which is even less successful with radiated tissue.
We chose to leave Banner for surgery and are so thankful!! My wife s oncology surgeon was absolutely amazing and her plastic surgeon who did the reconstruction, at the same time, Was fantastic.

Understaffed, dismissive and unacceptable level of...

Understaffed, dismissive and unacceptable level of cancer care. Working with a family member to diagnose and treat an often terminal disease, which it was in our case, should not be a battle to be seen in a timely manner, or to be treated with even simple levels of customer service or human decency. We were promised: 1. a 'team' to help us work through a 2. treatment plan, neither of which ever materialized in over 3 months of waiting. Phone messages never returned, Oncology MD's & PA's who had no patience for our questions and lacked the honesty to admit to a case that was above their ability to diagnose. Labeling a patient with an 'unknown primary' and postponing any type of treatment or palliative care is beyond unprofessional. When you can't help someone, have the moral courage and ethical responsibility to admit to it and refer them somewhere for help.
Save your time and energy ( your entire family will need it to battle this disease) and go to Mayo or CTCA in Goodyear. Keep searching for a provider who will listen, educate you, offer you honest choices and have the experience to support you! They are out there.

I called to request an appointment with a specific doctor. The receptionist, without knowing me or my full medical history decided I have to see someone else. Someone not covered by my insurance. I made an appointment anyway and she said she would email me directions and anything else I need before the appointment. I've not received an email four days later. I've been calling for three days and NO ONE will pick up the phone, except the overall receptionist who can't help me except to transfer me and place me on eternal hold with the area that won't pick up.
And on top of all that, they are making me go in an HOUR early to "talk to financial" before my appointment. Even though they say they are contracted with my insurance and they have verified my coverage - and I have a set copay for this appointment. In the middle of a pandemic, flu season, and with my compromised immune system.
If I ever get an answer as to WHERE I am supposed to go, I'll write another review of that. There service is the worst.

God bless you all.

I would give a better review if the schedulers and staff were better about returning calls. Don't even bother with this location. They are too busy for you, apparently. It's completely unacceptable that I have to call 5 times within a span of 2 weeks in an attempt to schedule a follow up appointment for my client only to leave messages to "schedulers" and radiation floor and still not receive a call back. It's wrong.

Sat here and listened to the MA manger on the third floor. Shari completely belittle employees in front of my father. He is already stressed with treatment. Anytime this Shari person enters a room she is rude and horrible! We are going back to cancer centers of America!

Most people are very nice, but one doctor in particular made life altering mistakes, had a fragile ego, and didn't want to help if it took a little more time and paperwork which at the very least shortened my wife's life. Also, he was rude with bad bedside manners.

Obviously, nobody really wants to be at this place, but, aside of that fact, my experience was delightful. The three people I actually had to interact with were wonderful... And everybody else along the way were very helpful. I actually was on here trying to find a place to send comments to regarding the people who helped me. So many times people are good to complain, but forget to compliment. I want to let Cynthia, David and Brian know that I appreciate their service.

My breast biopsy came back as triple positive breast cancer. I was able to see a breast surgeon within a week of diagnosis; she staged it as 2a breast cancer and suggested chemo first. She had me see an oncologist immediately (as in within twenty minutes), and they scheduled my first chemo five days later.

It has been a long seven months with chemo and surgery but everything has been made easier by everyone at MD Anderson, from the amazing doctors/nurses to the volunteers and everyone else on the staff.

Apart from my oncologist and surgeon, I have also seen a lymphedema specialized occupational therapist, functional medicine specialist, a dietitian, an LMPT, a psychologist, a plastic surgeon and probably more that I have forgotten. The amount of resources within the center is incomparable.

Started seeing family doctor Mario Skobic at banner health center in San Tan Valley.Az. was referred to Dr Klueppleburg at Banner on Banner gateway circle. Was charged 540 dollars for first appointment where he talked to me for 10 minutes. Recommend I start chemo without any blood tests. He was rude and didn't listen to my problem I was having with ear. Wouldn't prescribe me any meds to help. The Banner system as a whole is a big ripoff and charges way more then any doctor ive been to.1 year no help and no meds to help. Changed insurance and will never use Banner for any health needs.stay away from Dr. Klueppleburg he just wants to put you on chemo to get a bigger paycheck and doesn't care about your health.

My doctor that saw me for a matter of minutes is as cold as ice. Feel as if he looks down his nose at me because I smoke. Yes I need to stop it. I have smoked for over 30 years and I just can't stop. I want to do it to where the withdrawal isn't so hard on me. Not good enough for this doctor. To tell me he won't do the surgery unless I'm 3 months clean from cigarettes. I have had a few surgeries under my belt and not one was I told if you don't stop smoking we aren't going to help you. I can wait for Ironwood Cancer Center to take care of everything. Nice people at the door though.

I want to give them 5 stars because the staff has been great, however I've been jumping through hoops just to get procedures done. I've been scheduled for a PT Scan twice now. First was denied and I didn't find out it was not going to happen until I called and found out. No one had even called me to give that info. Got a different procedure done which was required to have the Dr. send out the 2nd PT Scan request. I am coming up on my scheduled scan and still not approved and no one has called to update me. Yet again I had to call to find out. My health "concern" has been going on now for over 5 months and things seem to be moving at the pace of a snail. It's already a stressful place to be, but even more so when you can't find out results in a timely manner.

Adding to this comment. My Dr. had a peer to peer scheduled and she never answered the phone so yet again, my scan was denied. I feel ignored and not confident in my Dr. at all. So disappointed in this place. 0 stars if I could.

Doctors are fabulous, however the admin and wait times are ridiculous. This is the second time I have been here with my neighbor and the wait time has been over an hour. Last time it was 2.5 hour - we are now at 1.5 hours for this visit. .
These people have cancer - they neither want to or need to sit in a waiting room full of people who are potentially spreading germs - for hours at a time.
