Oh my gosh...go now. Book a table. You'll know why. Fresh fish. High quality food. Excellent service. My only thing is the upper part of the restaurant is quite chilly. Bring a jacket just in case.
Fantastic quality and presentation, staff friendly and helpful.
Great food with a great space that finishes off the entire experience.
On a weekend visit to San Diego, I had dinner here. I really loved the service and ambiance. The food was exceptionally delicious! I would recommend making reservations.
really good. our chef was matsu and i thank him for a great sushi experience! dont forget to try their "are you kidding me"!!!!!!!
Azuki sushi is for me the best sushi in San Diego! Their fish is so fresh that it makes you feel that you're eating fish ice cream... The only photo I took doesn't do justice to the restaurant. This is a nigiri tuna with foie gras and some truffle on top. It's exceptional!
Foods dank as hell, but pricey. Don't go if you look under 25 or you'll be rushed. Legit got the dish stolen out of my hand.
Nigiri was A+. Nice atmosphere and the place is small and intimate. Probably my favorite sushi joint in San Diego. I like this over Sushi Ota.
Amazingly fresh sushi. They do a great chirashi here.
Not cheap, but hrglbrgl!!! They have foie gras sushi, wagyu beef, just AMAZING! The guy sitting next to us almost astral traveled. Just go and treat yo' self!
Not impressed at all with service. The fish was fresh but the cut of fish in my omakase chirashi bowl was really poorly done. Some of them looked literally like leftover fish. Then they also didn't include uni, which was clearly stated as included. When I asked, the waitress said it's usually not. She checked and gave me uni along with sime more fish cuts that looked like leftover fish.. She apologized, but overall was not a quality experience. Disappointed at the standard SD seems to have with Japanese food
Three words: Foie Gras Sushi. Love this place! High quality
Excellent restaurant! Fish was fresh and dishes creative and tasty. We sat at the sushi bar so we were able to order as much food as we could eat. Service was also very good for the price point. I wish there was a good restaurant like this in Montreal, QC Canada. Thank you for having us, we will come back next time. We visit San Diego! :)
Delicious and divine! That's the best way to describe this place. For the sushi aficionado this place will satisfy you.
I had the By the Border and Spicy Tuna classic rolls. The By the Border is excellent with just a light spicy kick to it and excellent flavor and texture. A little southern flare to sushi. The Spicy Tuna was also just spicy enough for me.
The lady next to me had the RU Kidding Me roll and it looked fantastic. Next time I am in I will try it because it looked so delicious.
The restaurant is tucked away in Bankers Hill with a small space and more seating upstairs. Overall, a fantastic sushi restaurant that only southern California can deliver.
A favorite location for sushi. You will not be disappointed in the menu and service. Really nothing but enjoyable experiences here, I'll be back. I can see why they have a lot of good reviews.
Unreal selection. It's hard enough to find toro, let alone different grades of it per fish. One of the best sushi restaurants I have ever been to.
Came in for a date night dinner and got lucky to stumble in for Happy Hour. We ordered one of each from the menu and it was all good and even ordered a roll not on Happy Hour. It was an expensive meal still with majority of our items coming from Happy Hour, but nothing I'd expect less from a legitimate sushi place especially with Japanese Sushi chefs behind the bar. It's also a small place so expect to wait if it's a dinner rush. Again, we got lucky and got seated right away and the venue/ambiance is nice.
Fantastic service and a great ambiance. I had the snow crab sushi roll and it was very good. All in all a great establishment.
While seeing San Diego we were looking for a sushi place and discovered this position on Yelp ... where else ... lol I consider myself a well skilled sushi enthusiast and this location did not dissatisfy. Our server was friendly and also attentive as well as the food was exceptional. From the beverages to the food you can not fail with anything it's all scrumptious. We ordered drinks and the crunchy rice with tuna, some tataki and some rolls all genuine and great. If your in the location and also love great authentic sushi come below.
Excellent sushi. Great and helpful staff. Some friends and I came here after a wedding and we all had a wonderful time. Note, you may want to make reservations.
Some of the best sushi I ve ever had. Ingredients were so fresh and dishes were innovative. Would highly recommend and when we re back in SD, will definitely come again.
My wife and I love this place. It isn't cheap but it has a nice ambience, high quality fish, and good service
Really some of the best sushi I have tasted. Really fresh with fokus on the fish and not the rice. Small Cody place so you need to reserve a table, and it seemed like a very local place away from the hustle and bustle.
My go-to sushi. I've been there dozens of times. Freshest best quality fish.
Phenomenal fish, great service, love LOVE this place! Total hole in the wall, couldnt recommend it enough
Great rolls and fast nice service on a Thursday night.
The wait staff was insanely attentive. There were 4 or 5 staff members floating around removing plates, bringing dishes, making sure every table was attended, VERY NICE!.
Now the food, well....AWESOME.. Everything Looked and tasted AMAZING.
Our party consisted of a carnivore, pescatarian and Vegan, we were all GREATLY SATISFIED.
Great food and service but was very loud with music and a few customer that were screaming.
Delicious, fresh sashimi. I had the lobster special and it was my favorite. Service was ok.
So good!!! The sushi chefs are top notch and the rest of the staff is very accommodating. Fish was amazingly fresh.
By far the best sushi in SD! So creative with their omakase. Definitely sit at the bar, best experience.
Food was a little good. But there was a molded grapefruit on the sushi bar. I had a hair in my wasabi. They really need to tighten up on the sanitation.
This is not great sushi or anything above and beyond any other standard sushi place. I came here because it had good reviews and I was not impressed or thought it was anything special. The rolls are really small. The sushi/sashimi quality is okay. My husband ordered the lobster roll, which they zap with fire right before they serve and it literally made it smell like burnt dog food. The calamari was dry, way overcooked and the oil it was fried in tasted old. I think people like it cause it's convenient near balboa park area.
We had a large party of seven that they were very accommodating. Between lots of high quality sushi and sashimi at reasonable prices a good time was had by all.
Excellent place and not Only... Excentric specialty and so good... One lf the best sushi place in San Diego.
Give it a try because it's Worth it. There is no Good sushi with 20$ all-you-can-eat. Forget it!!!!! If you wanna spend less go to inNout!!!!
Fantastic food but on the pricey side. Edamame could use a bit more salt. More than twice I said Wow that s good. Wow.
I'm not the average "sushi" kinda girl, but it had other stuff on the menu to make it a little better!!
Do fresh and so good. Most amazing I've ever had.
The food was a bit over the top for my likings but I still really enjoyed myself. The look of the food was beautiful and I gave no complaints about the taste. Overall very good.
Went on Sunda for brunch, and were pleasantly Fullfilled...I had the lobster roll and it was Delicious..they included the empty lobster tail, but the pieces of lobster were smallish...
Shud have been bigger if the meat came from that tail..still really good though
Amazing sashimi and the fish choices were awesome!!
Hands down the best I have ever tasted! Highly recommend!
Great place and food taste great too, their specialty rolls are great.
Traditional Japanese Sushi that can live up to the best of the mid-end sushi found in Japan. This is my favorite sushi in San Diego.
I'd give it more stars if possible! Delicious sushi. Not a lot of rolls to choose from and the most expensive rolls I've seen yet, but the rolls sure do taste very very good. Small little place, but great attentive service!
Great sushi and service! The Kobe roll was amazing and I would highly recommend it.
Very great atmosphere and the food was amazing! The servers were extremely friendly and vert helpful.
Quality over quantity here. The salmon special melted in my mouth. I usually order a lot more, but here I was not in want.
I think the best is the price, I ordered the niguiri plate, it was enough and it was enough.
The food was amazing and the place is nice the only reason I'm rating this place 4 stars is because of the service. I understand that everyone is going through tough times and it was busy but our food took over 50 minutes to be ready and all we ordered was 4 sushi rolls and I asked for water which also took about 30 minutes after I asked again. I will give this place another visit again because the food was really good and hopefully the service will be better.
The food is delicious, the serving speed is fast, but the waitress is not good.
Great food! The quality of the fish is amazing! We were seated at the upper part of the restaurant so that was a bit chilly for winter. I was seated next to a portable heater already. Again, the food was good and fresh. The appetizers are intriguing too. Gotta go back and try more dishes.
sushi and the atmosphere at this place is super good. Food was so delish. Definitely worth a return trip.
Tuna had a strong fishy smell. I've ordered a rainbow roll.
Really lovely spot for in San Diego. I ordered the stardust and the veggie option amazing flavors and portions.
Good food, though a bit pricey. Even with the room in back, the space is small, and there can be a significant wait for walk-ins, so call ahead to make reservations. The ambiance is very modern, and a bit sterile, so this is definitely not a cozy little izakaya, but more of an up-scale spot for Bankers Hill residents.
Almost easy to miss this small store front, but well worth a visit. The modern interior is charming and I highly recommend the Kobe roll.
To start the sushi was amazing!!! We we're visiting San deigo and found this place online. When we got there we were greated by a friendly face. He seated us and my mood changed. The waitresses was rude right from the start. She never introduced herself and didnt recommend anything!! After ordering I asked for a band aid and 20min later had to ask her coworker. I was very specific with my order and it was wrong(which happens sometimes) but she never checked in on to ask it ok. Considering I was two feet away from her the whole time her co worker noticed I was eating and came to asked if he can fix it. She never filled our waters...her coworkers did about 5 times. And the whole dinner she would give my party of 3 dirty looks. Sucks that people like this can ruin such a good environment.
The fish is very fresh and the rolls were beautifully made...they were not heavy with rice so that you couldn't taste the fish. Only issue is that the menu is somewhat limited and a little pricey. Service was great.
This place was great! We got one of the big platters, and it had good variety. The fish was fresh, the rolls had really good flavor. My favorite was the By the Border, spicy, a little smoky because it had charred jalapenos, bomb.
Also, as an added bonus, the servers were really nice. They were welcoming, and very helpful. Will definitely be coming back.
This is likely my favored sushi area in the area and also we have a few other great ones including Hane simply a couple of blocks north of Azuki.A smaller, not elegant whatsoever location in Bankers Hill on 5th, they have gotten considerably much better with time, last browse through was supurb. Fresh and also fantastic options, there is a fairly leave space in back that you can not see from the front so location is larger than it appears.
