My son sliced his leg wide open last night. I rushed him to the ER. The doctor and nurse were taking their sweet time, making small talk, chitchat. I kept imploring them to act more urgently because my son was in extreme pain. They said, "it's fine, we see this all the time, he'll be out of here in an hour." I told them I was concerned he lacerated the muscle because the cut was that deep. They said, "no, he's fine." I moved my vehicle to the parking lot and came back about 10 minutes later. HE'S BEING TRANSFERRED TO THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN AURORA! I bring him to the children's hospital in Aurora and he ended up needing surgery. Also, his muscle was damaged! Thankfully, he's fine now, recovering. Don't go here for an emergency! I've had 2 children born in this hospital without any problems. However, the ER experience has me fuming. It's an emergency room for a reason and they don't treat it as such. Very horrible experience. I can't even articulate my disgust with the nurse and doctor in the ER.

I live close to this hospital hence I thought it will save my travel time and it will be a good idea to do my ultrasound here. So, I went personally to find out the out of pocket cost of ultrasound, before the actual appointment, and they gave me the exact price. However, following my ultrasound the hospital in conjunction with 'Colorado Imaging Associates ' charged me extra 48$. This is absurd and I am highly disappointed as I was not told that the radiologist charges will be separate. I hope people read this and make rational decisions.

The New Birth Unit is clean and the rooms are amazing! With that said my experience with the nursing staff was terrible! My delivery nurse was so unprofessional. As I was pushing she was fixing her hair and blowing bubbles with her gum... no joke. She would remove her hair tie and a little while later put it back in. She d say you have a contraction coming grab your leg as she fluffed her hair and chomped her gum! I wanted to kick her out so bad. Also my husband and I didn t find out the gender of our child. Once my son was born one of the other nurses yelled to the nurse desk while walking down the hall room 2209 is a BOY ...as my family is sitting right across from the desk. So my husband or I didn t even get to share our big news with the ones we love. I am grateful my son was delivered healthy and happy. The nurse staff needs further training and a reality check on professionalism.

Had to go to the e-room at 11pm on a Saturday, couldn't have had a better experience (3rd ER that day, long story). The Doctors and Nursing staff/EMT's were great! Everything was clean, they were very thorough, and the blood tests came back quickly. Asked a million questions and they had1,000,001 answers.
A+, 5-star.
Thank you Avista!!

I can only speak to the ER and general surgery. My experience in the ER was mostly good. There were a couple nurses that seemed a little inconvenienced by me but I'm not a nurse and I expwce they have it pretty tough so they're getting a pass from me. My ER doc was nice to look at and I was in and out of there in no timd. My pain was well managed. There was a paramedic named John who was extremely compassionate and made me feel safe and comfortable. I'm terrified of hospitals.
The surgical team was incredible, which is really why I'm giving this hospital a five star rating. From pre op to post op I received incredible care. Kara in post op was particularly kind and caring. I was in a fair amount of pain when I woke up and she made sure I felt better ASAP. She made sure someone brought my husband back as soon as I asked and really made me feel safe while I was coming out if anesthesia. She got me something to eat and drink so I could take a pain pill. She helped me get dressed and wheeled my doped up butt out to my husband's truck. Honestly, I've never met a nurse more obviously cut out for what she's doing. She treated me like I was her loved one and my husband and I are so grateful for care. Seriously, I hate hospitals.

Both my husband and I have been trying to schedule my final ultrasound before delivery with this hospital for 3+weeks now and they either cannot find my order placed my my provider or hang up. I am suppose to deliver my child here on the 7th of November and now I am forced to find a new place to deliver because clearly the lack of care from Avista and it's employees during a pandemic.

Worst experience ever I'm 21 weeks pregnant and have gallstones.. I came in due to abdominal pain because of my gallstones it took the doctor 2 1/2 hours to see me and all she did was prescribe me Vicodin and said hopefully I don't have to take Vicodin threw my whole pregnancy and refused to ask there surgeon if I can have them taken out because I came in at the wrong time... I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!!!!!!

My family and I were here for over 2 weeks. I can only speak of the NICU and New Life department. The nurses are amazing. They were attentive and caring. The doctors were knowledgable and kind. But the ladies in the NICU were hands down amazing. They were so kind and helpful. They helped get thru the hardest 2 weeks of my life. I absolutely love every single nurse who was involved in my baby's care. Nurse Jill Nurse Julie Nurse Veronica stood out from the rest because they really cared so much. Dr. Chang was always so kind and always kept me up to date on my sons health. They treated us like family and it was comfortable to be there. I highly recommend this hospital for the anyone looking to have a wonderful experience with their birth.

Their nurses are rock stars. The ER provided immediate care- impressive. The ICU was phenomenal- caring competent nurses. Med Surg floor had great caregivers as well. This is the best facility my mother had ever stayed in.

There reason for the 2 star review is the mammography department. They have no concern for the wellbeing of their patients. When they aren't sure if something is cancerous or not, they don't err on the side of caution AT ALL. They are incompetent and don't know how to schedule an appointment either. I would've given one star if it weren't for the amazing care of the labor and delivery department. That being said, I ALSO got pnuemonia while in the ICU after delivery. (Like another patient said) However, this hospital is really hit or miss and when it comes to my health I want consistency within an organization. Centura really needs to take a hard look at who is caring for patients.

This is a hospital without real experiences. I have work in the field and with what I ve seen in this hospital, never ever ever would like open the door again! They re horrible,inExperienced, and incompetent! Unaccomplished doctors are here :(
It s unfortunate - and I wouldn t send an enemy here. CU hospitals if your really ill

Most nurses, doctors and staff were wonderful throughout the week stay. NICU nurses are amazing.
Application of medications to patient sub-par. Induction shouldn t begin with harsh oral contraction meds. Additional nurse needs to be present for pushing during labor. Additional nurse needs to be present with father immediately before C section.
Staff professionalism sub-par. Jokes about placenta pathology are not funny. When I requested written documentation of where placenta pathology was sent, I was denied, and it was funny to staff.

My ER experience at Avista was horrific. The arrogant doctor that treated me should reconsider how he treats his patients. I had COVID in January 2020 (and still feeling the long haul effects). I realize that hospitals and doctors didn't realize COVID was in the US, however this is no excuse for the way I was treated. I was SICK (fever, heavy chest, difficult breathing) and I begged him not to send me home, however instead he discharged me with a prescription for anxiety. Having COVID was absolutely horrible...mind, body and soul. Furthermore, this hospital got my insurance wrong and it took me over 6 months to correct. I've also left at least 20 messages with the patient advocate office for assistance and never received one return call. Anyone considering being treated at this hospital needs to think twice.
Avista, if you would like to talk to me in more detail about my experience, a call from you would be welcomed.

The staff here was amazing. During a time of high stress, all members of Avista were every kind and helpful. They gave us space when we needed but were attentive and provided excellent care. I was very impressed. The only downside is there is nobody to greet and direct you past 6pm. You have to go to the ER Check-in desk. Overall, good place.

the nurse ushered us to a room that had drops of blood on the floor, and swaths of someone's hair. She had no hygiene, trowing equipment she was done with to the dirty floor. She could not fine my daughter's vein, and kept taking the needle in and out, at least 6 times! However, she and the MD did know how to help medically, I just wish they were clean.

Mammogram Monday - I was dreading this but knew it had to be done. I have had 3 performed her and this was a 6 month follow up to check on some suspicious areas. As always the lovely ladies at the front greeted me and had me take a seat. Not 5 minutes later I was completely checked in and on my way.
I was greeted quickly in the mammogram lab and took a seat. Everyone was friendly - pretty hard to be first thing on a Monday morning!. Took me back and did the procedure - very caring and careful which is greatly appreciated! At the end, I do have to come back for a biopsy. I spoke with the radiologist/ MD in regards to why and then was shown the room and had the procedure very thoroughly explained to me. This helped take some of the edge off of my nervousness for sure!
I will be going back next Tuesday for the biopsy and expect the same excellent treatment.
Side note - I have to have a hiatal hernia repair next month and because of where this surgeon has privileges I am having the surgery at Littleton Adventist Hospital. I hope they are as good as this facility!!!!

They put my newborn first and I appreciated that so much. The nurses help me go into labor we re sweet. Although there was one really rude nurse(lucky I forgot your name) made me feel unwelcome. While you took care of me on your night shift. I hardly saw you when I needed help. And then in the end they just wanted to push me out of my room so quick. I couldn t even get my babies foot prints on the certificate like they should. They had to retry like 5 times since they were so much in a hurry. Food was good. They got my family pillows, blankets and provided good service to them. Thank you.

This place and their staff deserve 1000 stars. The staff that helped with the delivery of our baby is a group of professionals that really love what they do. Thank you Michelle, Rebecca, Ashley, Angela, Dr Mark Sarinopoulos and sorry if I missed any other names! Thank every one so much I am forever grateful!

I delivered my baby in March of 2020. It was the best decision ever to give birth to my child at this hospital! I thank the 911 crew to suggest me going there as my baby was arriving premature. The staff who provided me care was fabulous, nurses and doctors equally. They are courteous, kind and thorough professionals. Doctor Huynh is my savior, Nurse Kathy and Shawna (and all the nurses present in the room helping me deliver and ready to take care of my baby, I wish I could remember each of their names) are my heroes. Avista s NICU is the best in this area, Donna and Jodi (again I wish I could remember all the names) took care of my baby with so much care and professionalism. I highly recommend Avista Louiseville for its labor & delivery and NICU. The lactation specialists Nikki and Stephanie are so helpful and knowledgeable. They even helped me after we brought our baby home, always returned my phone calls. P.S food was awesome, especially steak and grilled chicken. Absolutely loved the chocolate cake

.I had to wait longer then expected for surgery because they had emergencies...I can be with that...the surgery went well and Dr. Johs was wonderful as was his assistant and everyone I came in contact with...not only that..

A couple months ago, I went to the hospital because I struggled with suicidal thoughts. From intake to discharge, all of the staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the lady who took my vitals. She frequently checked in on me, and understood my nerves. The food was well delicious, and had a variety of options on the menu. The unit was clean. Ultimately, they referred to Centennial Peaks, but I was satisfied with the few hours I was at Advista.

The comments about not taking people without insurance isn't totally accurate. I was seen immediately. I was having a reaction to Bactrim, rash all over my body. I was prescribed this antibiotic over a week before i had a serious reaction. Aside from splotches on my skin I wouldn't fit the bill of an emergency situation. When i informed the receptionist i had no insurance, she only asked if i could pay a small amount...and even then, had i not even answered her, i am almost certain they would have given me the same treatment as anyone with or without insurance. I was put in a room, with two different nurses wanting/willing to help me get well. The doctor i saw, Doc Wu, was very gentle, considerate and informative. I felt anxious, but his presence was comforting. Both nurses were great. I'm pretty picky with customer service, and at no time did i feel rushed, hurried, or unwanted. The bill may shock me, but this review is about Hospitality and not cost. And if you are worried about being turned away when you are clearly in fear and distress for your health, this place will most certainly treat you and get you well to the best of their abilities.

The doctors, nurses OR staff and radiology were knowledgeable, caring and supportive advocating for her every step of the way.

Great to have them in our neighborhood
Special call out to nurse Sarah!

Worst Experience!!! I was told to be at the hospital an hour before my surgery. I get there an hour an a half before my surgery. I've been waiting for over two hours at the waiting room. It's way past my procedure time. I went to the receptionist and with an attitude told me that I was early and that I had to wait. Then she quickly got on the phone and ignored me. I'm still waiting for someone to give me an update and or take me back. If you are having anything done at this location please plan to be waiting forever and rude staff.

It has taken me quite a while to be able to conceptualize and verbalize what happened to me at this facility. It took an emotional and psychological toll that I needed to process before being able to verbalize this.
After being unable to sleep for two days straight due to intense, level 10, stabbing abdominal pain, I admitted I needed help and drove to the Avista Adventist Hospital Emergency Room at around 530-6 am. I was admitted, put in a room, and immediately examined, unfortunately, that is where the productive and professional part of my emergency room visit ended.
I informed my doctor and nurses that I had an IUD implant, and was suspicious it was causing the issue. After going through a barrage of tests, including a CT scan, an ultrasound, and several others, over the course of about 5 hours, my doctor re entered the room to inform me there was "nothing wrong with me." Not that "we couldn't find what is wrong," they openly said "there is nothing wrong with you," while providing no information as to whether my IUD was correctly placed or even visible. The nurse discharging me went as far as to imply to my father, who immediately drove from South Denver to the hospital after hearing of my condition, that I was seeking drugs, and calmly explained that they do not write prescriptions when there is nothing wrong with a patient. She 'helpfully' suggested that I should try using ibuprofen to manage my symptoms (when I was admitted, I told them I had taken three ibuprofen every 4 hours for the past two days to manage the level of pain, which clearly she did not notice when consulting my chart). This was her response to my father asking to have me referred to a gynecological department for further investigation, and asking what else we could do. The answer we continuously got was "we do not write prescriptions in cases like this," despite the fact we were asking for referrals, second opinions, and options, not drugs. All persons involved were obviously disinterested, and my doctor went as far as to roll her eyes, sigh, and recommend a hot pad for my discomfort, again in response to asking to be referred to another physician.
After two days of calling gynecological offices in Boulder trying to schedule a same day emergency appointment, I was denied due to the fact these offices require a hospital recommendation to schedule same day appointments. Finally, after having to take almost a week off work due to excruciating pain, I contacted a Planned Parenthood office, who despite being underfunded and understaffed, booked me a same day appointment. A 20 minute, $120 pelvic exam concluded that my IUD had dislodged and was wrecking havoc in my uterus, as it had cut the side of my uterus and was beginning to navigate into my abdominal cavity. How Avista managed to miss all of this with the literal thousands of dollars worth of tests they charged through my insurance, I have no idea. Planned Parenthood discussed further options and after care, and sent me on my way with several referrals for follow up appointments to ensure the damage done would not cost me my fertility.
If I were to summarize my visit at Avista Adventist Hospital, I would shortly say that after managing to get an enormous amount of money from my insurance, they humiliated me, accused me of being a drug addict, and discharged me with a condition that could have caused serious infection, internal damage, cost me my fertility, and possibly even my life had I not ultimately managed to receive help from Planned Parenthood. I am utterly disgusted this hospital manages to have one of the better reputations in the Boulder area with the horrific quality of treatment they offered me.
Unfortunately I ultimately had to drop my malpractice lawsuit against the doctors involved due to lack of personal funds and since my insurance had already paid most of the bills. The best I feel I can do is warn any others who suspect they have gynecological emergencies to stay AWAY from this emergency room and seek out your nearest gynecological office or Planned Parenthood.

After visiting 2 other Emergency Rooms, seeing her doctor twice and one walk in clinic ... We came here and within like 2 hours they found out what was causing my mother in law's pain ... staff was awesome and the doctor said she was lucky that we kept on until we found answers to her pain ...

The New Life Center here is WONDERFUL. I gave birth to my first baby on March 24th. They give you so many supplies to take home (breast pump supplies, diapers, wipes, witch hazel rounds, lidocaine spray, their diapers with mesh panties, maternity pads, ice packs, etc. to take home, and they provide soap, toothpaste, and deodorant for your stay). All of the nurses are great, super informative, and super willing to take the time to explain things and help you with anything you need. The food is super cheap for your spouse and guests (covered for you obviously with your stay) and really delicious. They have so many food options too, which is great. Their lactation consultants are wonderful. I had a great experience. I gave birth with Dr. Faye Sundahl there with a posterior birth and she did a fabulous job making sure I didn't get any major tears and that the baby came out safely. The hospital also followed my birth plan closely. They really nurture a natural birth environment, despite having the usual hospital routine checkups. My nurse was also amazing in coaching me and supporting me with confidence. I had a really great experience.

Last minute knee surgery on a Saturday, found nothing but friendly helpful staff from reception to the surgical staff, even as they had to deal with all the last minute administrative stuff. Was in surgery right on time within an hour of arriving, up and delivered out to our car with everything we needed an hour after waking up.
This review is not for the Avista hospital in gene...
This review is not for the Avista hospital in general, but for the ER physician Dr. Lisa Patel.
Dr. Lisa Patel came across as an extremely uncaring, incompetent and rude doctor during my visit in December of 2017. She misdiagnosed my problem and kicked me out, completely dismissing my concerns and not even performing a physical examination. I later had to go to another ER setting, where I had an MRI of my neck and got properly diagnosed. The complete encounter at Avista took 20 minutes - in and out, including the doctor's 2 minute consultation - all in 20 minutes. The nurses looked pretty helpless too, like they wanted to do something more, but couldn't, because the doctor didn't think so.
I've had other, positive experiences at Avista, so just want to reiterate that this review is for this particular encounter and doctor.
P.S. The funny thing is - I was in the room that had a picture on the wall that said something to the effect of Avista wanting you "not just satisfied, but completely satisfied" but that experience somehow turned into "not just dissatisfied, but completely dissatisfied".

We had our first child at this hospital. The staff was supportive of our birth plan, caring, and helpful. The food was really good which is a perk when you have breastfeeding induced hunger. The rooms are clean. It made a world of difference to us to do the labor, delivery, recovery, and the remainder of our stay all in the same room. We took parenting classes through the hospital which we recommend. They were very informative! The lactation consultants are friendly and non-judgemental. Great hospital!

Checked in at 8:15 pm it's 10:05 pm still hadn't seen the doctor and nobody even noticed when I walked out. My feet are tingling my legs are weak I know I slipped a disc in my back or pinched nerve but the doctor must be on dinner. I'd like to thank them for making me feel of not a priority and if anything happens to me it's on them. That's all I have to say.

Thank you so much for the fast service and excellent care I received in the ER this morning. My doctor called the ER and they knew I was coming, and I was in and out in less than an hour. My nurse, Kelly, was exceptional as were the rest of the staff I briefly interacted with. I cannot express my gratitude enough.

I went there for mental health reasons. The doctor walked out of me twice for no good reason at all. They discharged me and I asked if I could go smoke the nurse said to me "I don't care what you do." Very rudely. I was not mean at all I only asked the doctor if I could listen to music in one headphone in and he walked out and called me rude. I would not suggest this place especially if you have a mental illness.

Awful experience; I keep getting bills that they did not tell me, or I do not recall. The staff are nice, but the hospital system seems to be terrible. The other nuance you need to be aware is that it seems the doctors there keep ordering procedures for the hospital. It also appears that the hospital keeps paying the ads fee and rating for the doctors.
Go to healthgrades and other doctor rating websites and you will see that the ads are sponsored by Avista hospital.
I learned this in a hard way, literally at a cost close to $5k.
Hope this find an ear.

My sister had a hysterectomy at this hospital on June 27th 2014. They really took excellent care of her. One nurse named Patti that worked on the 2nd floor Surgical patients took care of her right after she left the recovery room (about 230pm on Friday June 27th) She is the true definition of a nurse. She was the one who got her pain under control. She made herself availability to my sister whenever she needed her and did not stop until she was resting comfortably.
Thank you very much, Patti.
Sincerely,
Karima Tannis (sister of Paula Platt patient)

I have had good experiences at this hospital, but not in the ER. Despite there being no one in the waiting room when we arrived the ER and the nurse having several open rooms to choose from when she took us back, the doctor insisted several times they were very busy. My husband presented with sudden edema in both legs which happened overnight and with no known cause. They didn't put him in a gown or do any physical exam other than looking at his feet/ankles. Dr. Oakes basically ordered simple labwork and sent us on our way to "buy some stockings ". She only listened to his lungs and felt his abdomen when I asked if it could be cardiac related. She didn't feel his glands or really even look for the cause at all. Just treated and streeted us. Very poor and risky medical treatment for an emergency room. I don't recommend their ER if you have a scary situation arise.

We live close to this hospital hence thought it will save our travel time to schedule an appointment at a south denver location. After multiple calls back and forth to no avail, We personally went to inquire the out of pocket cost of ultrasound, before the actual appointment, and they gave us the exact price (reconfirmed this 3 times!).
However, following the scan, the hospital in conjunction with 'Colorado Imaging Associates pc' charged us an extra 50$ (on top of the 200 dollars for the assured price!). This is absurd and we are highly disappointed as we were reassuread about the cost and not told that the radiologist charges will be separate. I hope people read this and make rational decisions.

It's too bad the highest rating is only five stars! I spent 38 days on the Med/Surg floor during June and July of 2015. I received superlative care from the nurses, as well as from the doctors who have privileges at Avista. The hospital itself is very clean; the rooms are comfortable and cheerful. The nursing staff are the folks who literally held my hand when I was depressed about having to be in hospital so long. The nurses were very responsive when I had pain; they took time to take me outside, so I wasn't spending absolutely every day inside. They did all they could to make me comfortable. They were consistent in making sure that they checked my wrist band before giving me any meds. I highly, highly recommend Avista, and would not consider going elsewhere. Not only is the staff professional and efficient, but they are some of the kindest men and women I've ever met in my life.

Been here 5 hours. Doctor Stella keeps saying he'll be back with pain meds for my spouse, yet never returns. Nurse is too busy having social hour and they still have not figured out what's wrong. Second time this hospital has dropped the ball when my spouse was in need of serious care. Will be going to a different hospital. Would give half star. Says seen in 30 minutes out within 2 hours, what a joke.

I threw my back out a day and a 1/2 ago, and it only got worse. When I realized I couldn't even standup or walk anymore, I knew I needed to go to an ER. Since I was at home, I had time to make sure I found a place that was in-network with my insurance, and I had time to read reviews. The ER closest to me had terrible reviews, so I decided to check a couple other places.
Avista had great overall stars, but when reading reviews there were a lot of good ones, but some not so good ones too. That's why I think it's important that I describe my experience.
They were great. From the front desk to the nurses, the doctor and the X-Ray technicians, everyone was super friendly and helpful. I had no wait at all. None. Went in, started filling out the paperwork, and the nurse came and got me while I was still writing my name. It was seriously that quick.
I wouldn't say I have a lot of experience, but compared to my other emergency room visits (appendix when I was 24 and torn meniscus /knee when I was 35) this one gave me nothing to complain about, and only good things to say.

Everyone there was great! Such care for my disabled sister I've never experienced before and since I'm a senior I've spent a fair amount of time visiting family and friends in hospitals!
The staff go beyond the call of duty- there to help before you ask! And the Doctors were great! Particularly Dr. Hallgren and Dr Vanzura! And I thought because my sister was on Medicare that they wouldn't be attentive! Very attentive, caring, and thorough!

I'm a courier and was trying to find my way to the dock, as it was my first time at this location.
Robin at the front desk showed No customer service, her partner grinned and said "we don't know anything" after Robin couldn't answer a single question without an attitude.
I don't know what I did to you, but your service was unacceptable!
I don't know why they keep people with disgusting attitudes like yours around.
If y'all don't know anything, why are they paying you two to take up space.
I didn't feel welcomed, I felt attacked and there was no customer service behind any of Robin's words.

The doctor seems young and and a bit timid when it comes to making decisions, but the nurses are very sweet. But as for the billing department lady, not sure her name but she's tall, about 50 with black hair, now she was unprofessional an rude. I heard her talking about me to one of the security guards.

My cardiac test was ok, I didn't eat at all the entire day. Then they sent me home without warning. I have pneumonia and they're simply sending me home.

Avoid this place at all cost! Awful care given and the billing department will completely rip you off. Please avoid this place if you can unless you want further problems once leaving. I will be submitting a complaint to CO Dept of Public Health and the Better Business Bureau.

This hospital will charge you over 2x more than the fair billing price of their services, let their untrained customer representatives make false and contradictory assertions when you try to understand the justification for their fees, stonewall you when you try to escalate to resolve your bill, and then prematurely sell your debt to a collections agency while you wait for their response. Avoid at all costs!
Edited to add, in response to Avista's form reply below, that I spoke to several Patient Representatives over the course of several months to try to resolve this, and they each provided a different (and often contradictory) rationale for the pricing. Their system is designed to either a) get you to pay without questioning or b) string you along long enough to justify sending your debt to collections. Record the details of all your calls and be prepared to submit complaints to CO Dept of Public Health and the Better Business Bureau.

Delivered our baby at the new life center. It was a wonderful experience and the staff is extraordinary and very tentative. I've noticed alot in Colorado that people just love posting super negative reviews over little things, or things that are the responsibilities of the customers but have zero accountability for themselves. Don't let these people guide you away. This hospital is world class.

First, I would like to start with the rude, unprofessional woman at the information desk. Her name was Tara. She refused to give me directions until she could call the nurses to confirm my identity. Tara was ignorant. When I asked her a question, she rolled her eyes and turned away. Next, my husband was in the hospital for a few days after a procedure. The nurses never checked on him, and it took forever for anyone to answer his call light. A nurse by the name of Karen, was the worst. Then, the hospital tried to charge us the amount adjusted by the insurance. The billing department was rude, and said we had to pay in full ($2300), as soon as we received the bill. She continued to argue with me even after I told her the insurance company said I wasn't responsible. What a nightmare this hospital is!

I had a spinal surgery which was major. The people in the 0R were great. The floor nurses, however, were rude and make it very clear that I was annoying them. At one point I asked for some juice, and was told "that they did not want to run their supply down." Who were they saving it for, more important patients? One nurse especially was short with me and complained to the PA when I objected to the way in which she was treating me. The PA came into my room and verbally attacked me, without ever hearing my side of the story. He talked to me as if I were dirt. This was a PA, not a physician. His arrogance and nastiness were shocking. I am seriously considering having my attorney file a complaint against both of them. The last blow was when I awoke when my 102 degree fever broke and I was freezing. I asked for a blanket. The nurse walked out of the room, without helping me. The most she did was look over her shoulder and say that she had turned up the thermostat. These nurses made my hospital stay a frightening nightmare. I will never use this facility again.

This is a review of Emergency Room care team. I ve been to Avista ER three times this year- once for myself, once with my partner and once with a friend. I had an ok experience and the people were helpful and effocient. The past two times however, the care team was not at all caring. They were extremely rude and pushy. One nurse made a pass at my partners intelligence and insulted her, saying that she didn t know how to read a clock because she is a millennial. She went in thinking her foot might be broken and they treated her like she was making everything up. They did the exact same thing with my friend who was in terrible pain and could barely walk. She ended up having a serious infection, but the whole time they treated her like she was making it up, like she wasn t really in pain, that she was not tough and that we were annoying them by asking questions. I m sorry but it s their job to answer questions and also to have bedside manner and assure patients and the people with them that it s going to be okay. They were extremely rude. Only one of the nurses was helpful. The doctor was horrible. Dr Windell. He came into the room and went straight up to my friend who is lying in the bed and gets in her face, telling her that she shouldn t be in any pain and that they gave her enough pain medication for a 300 pound man and that he s happy to admit her to the hospital overnight for pain management. They act like everyone is drug seeking or something and not actually in pain. I m filing a formal complaint with the hospital. I was hoping Avista would be better than Boulder community hospital, but they might even be worse. I think half the staff needs to think about getting a career change. I m sure that working in the ER is not a simple job, but being kind is not hard especially when people are hurting, sick and vulnerable.

ER care was satisfactory although extremely slow despite not being busy. Billing was expensive (even with insurance member rates) and opaque (despite being quoted a $200 number at time of service, bill was over $1000 for a simple visit with no way to get any breakdown or rationale despite multiple phone calls and emails). Do not go here if you have a choice.
