This is a review of Emergency Room care team. I ve been to Avista ER three times this year- once for myself, once with my partner and once with a friend. I had an ok experience and the people were helpful and effocient. The past two times however, the care team was not at all caring. They were extremely rude and pushy. One nurse made a pass at my partners intelligence and insulted her, saying that she didn t know how to read a clock because she is a millennial. She went in thinking her foot might be broken and they treated her like she was making everything up. They did the exact same thing with my friend who was in terrible pain and could barely walk. She ended up having a serious infection, but the whole time they treated her like she was making it up, like she wasn t really in pain, that she was not tough and that we were annoying them by asking questions. I m sorry but it s their job to answer questions and also to have bedside manner and assure patients and the people with them that it s going to be okay. They were extremely rude. Only one of the nurses was helpful. The doctor was horrible. Dr Windell. He came into the room and went straight up to my friend who is lying in the bed and gets in her face, telling her that she shouldn t be in any pain and that they gave her enough pain medication for a 300 pound man and that he s happy to admit her to the hospital overnight for pain management. They act like everyone is drug seeking or something and not actually in pain. I m filing a formal complaint with the hospital. I was hoping Avista would be better than Boulder community hospital, but they might even be worse. I think half the staff needs to think about getting a career change. I m sure that working in the ER is not a simple job, but being kind is not hard especially when people are hurting, sick and vulnerable.
